After my beloved penny farthings closed down, I thought it was over. Being Irish English and a first generation Canadian, our family had fish and chips weekly before. I think I can look forward to fish and chip Fridays again! This place is great! Service was ok, batter was delicious, tea was hot! I despise cod (always!) and recommend the haddock or halibut. Saw lots of people picking up phone orders, this place will definitely be seeing me again!!

yay for all you can eat fish and chips (and unlimited pop) for under $10.
the AYCE is even cheaper than some of the items on the menu. my plate had 3 huge pieces of fish and lotsa fries on the side. the fish was fresh. the place was clean. and the service was quite similar to the american styled buffets, where it's quite minimal and they come refill your drinks. you seat yourself. you pay at the cashier up front. and i prefer that - especially if i'm stuffing myself silly (obviously i didn't even do that good of a job if i couldn't even finish one round). -

Craving for fish & chips but not wanting to pay a premium at Steveston, we resorted to Cockney Kings. The place is clean and casual. With a takeout section as well as a dining room, I'm not sure why I've never been here before.
Ordered their 2 piece halibut and chips which also comes with a side of coleslaw and a bun. Pitchers of Okanagan Pale Ale is $13.
Two large pieces of halibut and fries came on a plate. I was impressed. Usually the size of the one piece here is split and served as two pieces at other places. Help yourself to ketchup, tartar sauce, and vinegar.
The fish was so good. Tender and soft, and just perfectly done. The batter-a light crisp coating, nothing too overpowering, and the flavour of the fish was still there. I couldn't finish the whole plate and had to bring one piece home.
I think I may just become a regular here. Fish and chips, beer, good service, economical. The whole equation begs for me to return, how could I say no? -

Fish was pretty good, I took away 2 stars because the fries were not that good and the service was average. Good size portions, value for your money, not sure that I would go there again.

This ain't no small, fish-and-chips stand operation. I finally made it there after all the great reviews and was surprised to find a full-sized restaurant. It looks like a pub inside, huge and spacious, which is just about perfect so you don't smell your neighbour as they scarf down their food. The place also smells of that perfectly faint, freshly deep-fried goodness with a hint of malty vinegary things to come. I was not only starving by the time I got to their takeout counter, I was also super excited that a 2-piece halibut fish and chips only cost $12! Holy moley, so that's what I had. And 3 fried oysters (huge!).
Their batter's light and moist, in fact, the lightest textured batter I've ever had. It would have been the most wondrous batter ever if they alter the recipe a bit to add more beer, which I prefer. Service was quick and efficient. I was a teensy bit disappointed to find packets of tartar sauce; I've been spoiled rotten by most fish-and-chip places' homemade tartar.
My tastebuds give it a solid 3.5 stars, primarily for personal flavour preference but otherwise, this place is a 4.5 stars for the combination of great price and portions. -

There's really nothing more to say than what has already been said here... it's solid, delicious fish and chips, with a decent atmosphere and speedy service. The only thing I can definitely add?
The

EPIC.
And I'm not using "epic" in the way-overused-way, I'm using epic in the "holy-s@*-those-things-are-huge-and-look-life-alte ring" way. I think I might go there just to have a plate. I -

I went to Cockney Kings today with a friend to get the all you can eat. The service was fine as it wasn't very busy and then our food arrived and that's where it started to go all down hill. On first appearance the plate was full of fries and fish and looked good then I put some salt and vinegar on my fries and proceeded to eat it. After eating a few fries I noticed I couldn't taste any vinegar yet I put quite a bit on it so I thought what the hell's going on? so I grabbed the vinegar bottle again and poured some on my finger to taste it and sure enough it tasted more of water than vinegar probably 90% water 10% vinegar I tried the malt vinegar too and it to was watered down. It was disgusting because I essentially put water and salt on my fries so I moved onto my fish which wasn't cod it was some other cheaper species of fish that was more batter than fish and oozed with grease while it sat on my plate. I definitely wont be returning after this visit I'd much rather go to C-Lovers same price, better quality, you actually get all you can eat cod, and you actually get real vinegar not watered down garbage.

Drinking dockside all afternoon (cue Otis Redding) - my crew and I decided that it was a 'fish-and-chips' kind of day. I've been to the Cockney Kings on E. Hastings (near SFU) before years ago during my university days - but I really don't remember too much about it. Then again, back then, my evaluation of food can be represented mathematically: (Volume) / (Price) = 'Goodness'
There is a lot of takeout here - while waiting for seats (it was packed), people kept coming in for takeout. $12 for 2 pieces of halibut and fries? Not bad at all.
Dine-price for the 2 piece halibut was $14 and included some coleslaw and a (meh) dinner roll. Fries were crispy and the halibut was *very* lightly battered. Piping hot and delicious - like me.
Pretty good and I like the no-frills dining. Much better than Pajo's - and you don't even have to drive out to Steveston to eat some so-so fish and chips at a Canadian 'beach' while the seagulls eye you down. And pitchers of beer are only $13 or $14.
Suggest you grab your order take-out and grab a spot on the Quay. Do it quick though - as the half-life of fish and chips can be measured in mere minutes. -

The best fish and chips in the world!
Home-cut chips, decent sized pieces of fish with just the right amount of batter and really yummy seafood chowder!
Good prices for take-out. 2 piece halibut and chips (big portion too! Enough for 2 people to share) is less than $12.00! -

Port Coquitlam, BC
This is the best fish and chips I have ever had. The fries are home cut and the fish is lightly battered.
The portions are big and the prices are very affordable.
The customer service is friendly and efficient. No one is standing around chatting here. They are always working hard to push orders through.
Yes there is a wait but it's busy because it's soooo good! It's most definitely worth the wait.
The Coquitlam/Port Coquitlam area needs a Cockney Kings!!! -

Great fish and chips!
The place is always packed. The food is always good. The service is always friendly. That's been my experience, and I love hitting the Cockney Kings when I have a hankering for fish and chips. -

One of the best places for fish and chips in New West (The best is from the Crab Shop at the River Market). The batter is a bit thick for my taste, but I've never not eaten everything on my plate. The fries are great, too! Probably the best part of this place is the history and atmosphere. It also has good service.

Other reviewers weren't kidding- the portions are huge. I highly recommend splitting a two-piece meal, as the fish and fries aren't nearly as yummy when served up as soggy leftovers. The service was fast and pleasant, prices were fair for such generous portions, and the fish was surprisingly meaty, with only a thin (yummy) batter. Fries were very good as well. Sure felt my arteries clogging on the way out, but that doesn't mean I didn't enjoy it!

Solid no nonsense fish & chips complete with a real English dude.
This place was hopping, but luckily a lot of the people waiting were for take out orders.
I tried out the halibut and cod fish and chip dinner plate, which came with coleslaw and a dinner roll. Chips were crispy and not oily, just the way they should be. Fish batter was the same, light, crispy and very little oil.
Was it the best F&C? No, but definitely beats out the oodles of places who make 2" thick 'doughnut-like' batter that taste like oil sponges.
They also have AYCE F&C on Mon, Tues, & Wed's for $9.50. Something tells me that wouldn't be the best option for your health. 2 pieces is good enough. -

First timer, and I'll be back whenever I can get a chance......
Saturday night so no AYCE (PS Mon Tues Wed - $9.50),,,
At first the plate (2 pce Halibut) looked a bit small (I'm a big eater),, but after the fries and one piece of fish I was pretty pretty full...but I made it through the 2nd piece with little trouble... the fish were very large pieces.... very thin batter (I am picky about batter) and this was one of the best I've had ever..
Place was extremely busy at 7PM Sat...tons of parking, very clean atmosphere (new building), never used washroom but based of everything else I'm sure they were much better than the average..and not just plain decor very authentic...
Wait staff were all very pleasant with smiles with genuine conversation from all I spoke to....nice change
If you are in the neighbourhood you must stop it's worth it... -

Yesss! Hot, juicy cod deep-fried in a light, crispy batter, served on a mound of fresh fries, wrapped in newsprint - and it was still hot after I'd stuffed the takeout in my pannier and cycled over the overpass to find the perfect bench on the New West riverfront boardwalk on a sunny afternoon. (Note to self: always remember to get malt vinegar and ketchup.)
No wonder the waiting area and dining room of Cockney Kings was jam-packed on a weekday. This place serves seriously good, straightforward, English-style fish and chips.Listed in: Bright Lights, Royal City

Delicious crispy chips.
Delicious crispy fried halibut! Fried right in front of your eyes!
Delicious tartar sauce.
Everything super hot and fresh. Nothing at room temperature.
This is probably the best fish and chips I've had in the GVRD. -

Great great great fish & chips. I had the two piece salmon because I'm crazy for salmon. Crazy, I say.
The chips were pretty good but not spectacular.
The only mild disappointment was the seafood chowder. Whereas it has nice big chunks of fish, there didn't seem to be much in the way of other seafood (mussels or clams would have been nice.) It was more of a fish chowder.
The prices were quite reasonable. -

This place used to be located deeper in the same mini-mall. It used to be okay, but not great. Now that it has moved to it's new building, the food has come up a level. I really like both the cod and the halibut fish and chips. I always get a side of coleslaw as well, it is pretty good.
The place is very popular now. It's packed on most days. (They do AYCE earlier in the week) I am always stunned by the number of old people there eating fish and chips, you'd think they'd be trying to eat healthier at their age, but I guess why not go out with a bang. The icing on the cake was several of the old ladies smoking cigarettes outside of the restaurant after a meal. Talk about giving death the middle finger and loving it! -

it has been a while since I have eaten at Cockney King but that was in Burnaby. And it was always good fish and chips. Now here in New Westminster, it didn't disappoint. Same great food. And surprisingly I don't think the prices have increased that much.
The day my guest and I went it was busy, however not very busy. As our waitress commented that it was a "slow" night, despite having to wait about 10 minutes - not that it was a problem. I have absolutely no problem waiting for a table if the food is worth it.
During this visit we skipped tradition of the standard fish and chip combinations, instead I chose 1 piece of Cod, a Steak and Kidney pie and Poutine. While my Guest had 1 piece each, of Cod and Halibut and Onion rings.
The fish was excellent, crispy outside and and volcanically hot inside as were the onion rings. To which we found out later that the massive order of onion rings was a half order; WTF? The Poutine was good, not outstanding, but good. Something that I would order again. The Steak and Kidney pie was really good, the pastry was flaky and light and the filling was substantial, and like the fish was volcanically hot inside, thank god for the bottom-less pop.
We were unable to finish the meal and took home half of the " half order" of onion rings. All this for about $35. A good value in my opinion and a reason to return again. -

I grew up in New Zealand where fish and chips are pretty much the national dish. When I moved to Canada I was pretty devastated by what passes for F&C's here until I found this place.
I have had the halibut and chips three times now. The fish batter was crispy and thin, the chips come wrapped in news paper (the proper way) and are about as good as you can get.
The place is always bursting at the seams, a sure sign that its good. The staff have been polite and friendly, not at all flustered considering how packed it is. The fish is battered seconds before its put in the oil, everything tastes fresh and clean. -

The atmosphere is bustling and friendly. It's a great place to be by the window on a sunny day. The fish is delish. My friends have taken me here a couple of times and maan, it was goood. I got the fried shrimp served with Whatwhat sauce which my friends were raving about before it got to the table. The place mats with cockney word and phrases gave us entertainment until the food arrived, perhaps it's a bit tacky, but it was fun. The shrimp batter was just right, crispy and not too thick. The sauce was delicious, everyone was stealing it, the waitresses were great and I left with a full stomach. I recommend this place after a long day at the beach when the sun is out and you've worked up an appetite.

I have been to this location only and will keep coming back. First time here for lunch today and it was almost as busy as dinner time.
I've always ordered the 2 piece Halibut and Chips. Large pieces of firm fish cooked in a light, crispy batter...not doughy or greasy. Served with great fries, yummy coleslaw and a dinner roll. You won't go away hungry.
Fantastic halibut...friendly staff...clean place...
Go there for your next Fish & Chips craving. -

Our entire family are fish and chip fans and we are very pleased that we live so close to Cockney Kings. The cod, halibut, prawns and chips may be the best you can get in the Vancouver area and the prices are quite reasonable. The staff is friendly and welcoming and the dining area is clean and comfortable.

They really do have the best fish and chips. The halibut is divine. The batter is light so I don't feel too guilty eating here. Tasty coleslaw. Yummy chips. Can't be beat. Busy, but fast. Friendly. It seems the staff like to work here.

Love the halibut & chips. Just the right thickness of batter and crisply fried. Believe it or not, it is impossible to get decent fish and chips in da islands. There we are surrounded by nothing but ocean on Maui. Go figure. This place is almost always packed so that is always a good sign. My son picked a great new neighborhood to buy a home in with this little gem nearby. Long live da queen!
