A truly adorable and attractive gem surrounded by modern high-rises on West Georgia. I loved the exterior/interior mix of modern and traditional, with brick walls on the exterior yet a totally modern and updated interior.
I'm not a member of any religion, but I thoroughly enjoyed one of their Sunday services. A non-denominational church with a truly contemporary atmosphere with wonderful people. They offered complimentary Tim Hortons coffee afterward where you could mix and mingle, which I thought was lovely.
History of the building:
1160 West Georgia Street, originally First Church of Christ, Scientist and home to Coastal Church since 2000, is a finely executed example of the Colonial Revival style, uncommon in Vancouver. It is a rare example of a building built during the First World War. The building is notable for its significant heritage interior featuring a large auditorium occupying the entire upper floor. This space has a classically designed organ, original pews in a horseshoe configuration and amber colored stained glass arched windows. The main exterior heritage features are its street facades, brick work, side buttress piers, stone detailing and arched window openings and glazing. Entrance foyers on both Georgia and Alberni feature brick walls and wooden beamed ceilings. The 2004 rehabilitation retained the building's original church use and was designed by Busby Perkins + Will with Robert Lemon Architect Inc. -

One of the best churches I found. It has a lot of supportive programs that are offered and the people are super friendly!

Coastal Church is a non-denominational church that meets in the heart of downtown Vancouver. Pastors Dave and Cheryl Koop are the senior and founding pastors of Coastal. This church is a collection of individuals from all walks of life, and together we're embarking on life's greatest journey - following Jesus Christ. We're not a collection of perfect people and we're certainly not the perfect church, but we're passionate about growing closer to God!
Weekend Service Times: Saturday - 5:00 PM and Sunday - 9:30 AM, 11:00 AM, 12:30 PM
