Only made it out to Darrells, but am I ever glad I did.  Peanut butter is one of those foods that's near godlike.  The peanut butter burger and peanut butter & chocolate shake at Darrells having been proof positive.

I wish I made it out to more of the events, but for what I did make it to, this event was as good as it gets!

Peanut butter. I could leave the review here and I think most of you would agree 5 stars are warranted. But I'd be remiss not to let the others in Yelpland know that the Peanut Butter Pilgrimage is just as fantastic as it sounds. Sadly I missed the Heartwood event, which I had been looking forward to - but my Pilgrimage was salvaged with trips to both the Middle Spoon and Darrell's.

I enjoyed a fun evening of delicious cocktails, great conversation, and yummy peanut butter at the Middle Spoon. It was the very first night with their new menu, which meant the Peanut Butter Pie was no more. They did have a couple other options for us. The peanut butter mousse cake dessert seemed to be a big hit with many, but I gotta say I didn't love it. However, that might have something to do with me polishing off a fair-sized hot fudge, peanut butter and brownie sundae moments before trying the mousse cake. I love love love the idea of a 3-topping Choose Your Own Sundae menu item. So many amazing choices - I loved my combination, but I was also looking at the cake truffle, cheesecake bits and cookie dough toppings. Next time!

And the piece de resistance! The infamous Peanut Butter Burger at Darrell's. I'm no stranger to this delectable phenomenon, but it had been a very long time since I'd indulged. I refrained from the chocolate peanut butter shake I wanted so very badly, because I've learned it's just too much with the burger. It can't end well. I tried Ben's tip of eating the burger upside down and it was a revelation - I'm so doing that from now on. The peanut butter flavour was definitely enhanced, and the burger was better handled in this fashion. No fork and knife for me - this is one of the few times it is socially acceptable to make a mess of yourself.

We had a pretty large group for the final event and I had a lot of fun. Yelpers make for great dinner dates! Thanks Ben for pulling together another fab series of Yelp events. Though I may need to look into peanut butter detox programs now...

I love Peanut Butter! I was a very picky child and a PB sandwich was one of the few things I liked so I probably had PB at least 300 out of 365 days of the year. I eat a lot more now, but my love of the substance still remains strong - the manager at my office is allergic and I think he think's I'm trying to kill him will all the nuts I have at my desk and for lunch.

Started off with The Heartwood Cafe - it was brunch so the peanut butter bowl was off the menu (ended up with amazing waffles, so no hard feelings) and the peanut butter cheesecake was more than enough peanut butter for one meal. It was dreamy for any lover of peanuts.

Middle Spoon was the 2nd stop - the peanut butter pie was off the menu but they had a peanut butter mousse cake in it's place. It was good, but very rich and perhaps a bit too heavy for my tastes, but that could be because I had polished off a sundae before diving into it.

Final stop was Darrel's and I have a small confession, I don't like burgers, so I didn't try  the famed burger, but it was well received by all of those who did. I did however fall in love with the Chocolate PB milkshake, it truly deserves the top honours in its category in the coast.

The best part of this event was getting to share the nutty love with a great group of people!

It's like Ben reads my mind when planning these events. Devoting the drab, cold month of January to peanut butter? YES. Yes, I will be there.

I first hit the Heartwood Cafe with a gang of Yelpers for brunch. Unfortunately the spicy peanut bowl we'd planned on ordering wasn't available, but we still got our peanut butter fixes in the absolutely divine peanut butter tofu cheesecake. It was so good, y'all.

Next I met up with the PB gang for desserts at the Middle Spoon. Just in time to check out their new menu, too! The peanut butter mousse thing I tasted was delicious, but I was so full from my custom ice cream sundae (which you can get with peanut butter!) that I couldn't finish it.

Finally, a large group of Yelpers met at Darrell's for peanut butter burgers. I've long been a fan of the burger that confuses and surprises so many, but this time I tried something new and had it as a veggie burger, sans bacon. I loved it - I found it less greasy than the usual burger and therefore could finish more. Some brave souls doubled up on the peanut butter by also indulging in a milkshake, but I could only bring myself to have a couple sips of one. It was a great time at one of my favorite spots in my South End 'hood, with great conversation and seriously admirable service - our table's waitress dealt with our large crowd with lightning speed and a super friendly attitude. It was great.

So yeah, Peanut Butter Pilgrimage? You brightened up my January in the best ways.

This being the first Yelp Event I ever attended I had no frame of reference.  No idea what to expect and no idea how to act (phttt!!).

The nice thing for me is that I had never been to any of the spots before - so I had to take part in all three.

First Event at the Heartwood Cafe - Afternoon Brunch on a Saturday.  Honestly I didn't care about the peanut bowl as I had a humungous brunch sampler - holy hell it was fantastic!!  A little bit of everything and all was delicious.  Coffee=good!!  And a slice of Peanut Butter Cheesecake to go.  The cheesecake was made of tofu and it was stupid good - eyes roll back thanking some higher power for the blessing I ingested - good....

Second Event at the Middle Spoon - Started with a sundae of ice cream, peanut butter, cheesecake bits and gummi worms - COME ON!  gummi worms and peanut butter is awesome.  The ice cream was pretty run of the mill but I almost licked the bowl anyway.  The peanut butter mousse cake was delicious and I cannot compare it to the pie, but I enjoyed all my forkfuls!

Final Event at Darrells - OK so Ben and Jill were talking up the Burger while we were at Heartwood but I was definitely skeptical.  But what the heck - go for it!  I had the peanut butter and chocolate milkshake which was sooooo good, I guzzled that down like a cold beer on a hot day!  And the burger - well I loved it (I did swear in my head as I knew this was an item that I would want again).  You would not think that it would taste so delicious but the peanut butter just added a flavour that complimented the burger - so unexpected.  It was huge and I had to take it home along with most of my Darrell fries (which are also yumbos).

All together, this was a fantastic event.  I met lovely people, enjoyed delicious treats and found new places to try with family and friends - Hey - Isn't that what makes life great?

So come out for an event - you won't regret it!

Peanut butter.  The bane of elementary schools.  The not-so-secret love of Yelpers.  And boy, did us Yelpers love the protein spread in style. While the first celebration event got snowed out, and I missed the second for a party, I made it to the last two.  Two events was more than enough to celebrate the childhood favourite.

For the third official outing, we made it out to the first night of The Middle Spoon's new menu.  Disappointingly, the peanut butter pie got cut from the menu, but lucky for us PB hunters, the individual peanut butter mousse cake took up the charge.  A black and white cake cradled the nest of fluffy peanuty goodness. While I wasn't a fan of the texture, the flavour rocked.  It was a great back-up to my chocolate peanut butter sunday.  Dollops of the ooey gooey stuff  collided with vanilla ice cream, turning my mouth into a sticky symphony.  The sugar high I rode that night was epic.

The last outing was for PB burgers at Darrells.  Darrell's milkshakes bring all the Yelpers to the yard, that's right, they're better than yours.  So give up.  Because the peanut butter chocolate milkshake was the best I ever had.

Okay, confession time: This was my first-ever milkshake. So it's not like I have a great frame of reference.  But if you're going to try something for the first time, might as well try the best, right? I got the peanut butter milkshake because I was still too chicken to go full-on peanut butter on a whole burger.  But I now know better and will likely be converting to peanut buttering my patties from here on out.

I love PB and banana sandwiches, which I've yet to find on any Haligonian menu, but these peanut butter dishes more than make up for it.  I'm glad I got to devour them.

    Peanut butter.

Do I love it? No. No, "love" only begins to describe my feelings for this smooth, rich nectar of the gods.

I'm a peanut butter fanatic. PB&J sandwiches? My fave. Peanut butter M&Ms? My fave. Reese's peanut butter cups? My fave.

So an exploration of some of the many fine peanut-butter-related food items Halifax has to offer is RIGHT up my alley. Sadly, however, I missed most of the events.

    But!

I did make it to the grand finale at Darrell's for their famous peanut butter burger. If you've never been and never tried, stop reading this review and go right now. I'll wait.

    ...

Done? Good. So, it's definitely the best burger in Halifax - whether you get the classic (meat + fixings + cheese + bacon) or a variation (veggie + fixings + cheese = me). Many are hesitant at first but are easily won over. Be prepared however as this is not for the faint of stomach. Many start but cannot finish this small but filling item. My personal suggestion to maximum enjoyment? A) Skip the milkshake (despite the fact that you can get a peanut butter/chocolate milkshake that is amazing). B) Skip appetizers. C) Use a fork and knife. It looks silly but it helps with the messiness.

I wish I'd thought to share some of these tips with the "Darrell's virgins" at the event. Many tried nobly but failed to finish. Everyone had a good time which, is of course, the main thing.

It was a great afternoon; very relaxed, people just enjoying good food and good company. We all crammed into a table probably meant for at least six fewer people than we had but that definitely brought us all closer together.

Conversation flowed as easily as the milkshakes with discussion of all things peanut butter and burger-related. Various theories of burger consumption were expounded (some favour upside down burgers, some the classic approach, some, such as I, for and knife for bigger burgers).

It's been almost a year since I joined Yelp and it's amazing to see how such a community of people have come together so quickly. It may not be the same people every time but we all find things in common. Whether we're going high-end with fancy wine and cheese events, cozying up to a bar or plunking ourselves on a diner stool, Yelp events are all about finding connections and exploring.

A final note: significant respect and appreciation to our waitress. She handled our table of 14(?) plus other tables and the service was above par the whole time.
