A friend who lived in Vancouver recommended this place when I went to Vancouver for a visit.  He suggested that this might be a good alternative option to Vancouver Lookout and he was right!

I felt glad I chose this place and did not have to pay CAD 15 for the Lookout entrance fee.  Instead, my friends and I sat in this restaurant, sipping on drinks while our seats did a 360 degree around the restaurant.

The setup is fantastic.  The restaurant is located at the very top of the Empire Landmark hotel.  It is set up so that the seating area would make a slow turn around the base of the building.  Thus, while you sit and sip your drink, you are able to get a view of Vancouver from all angles of the building.

The view was spectacular.  I think it would have definitely be worth another visit (if we had more time) to go up during a sunset and see vancouver in the midst of a purple and red sky.

The view is obviously worth 5 stars, but the food is as good as some I've had a ground level.

Salad - Arugula and mixed greens with feta wasn't bad....My tomatoes were seriously out of season, and should not have been platted (make that tomato, as I only found one teenie tiny one).

The chicken I had (free range), and stuffed with chorizo and goat cheese and portebello mushrooms was nice, but nothing to write home about (except to write FROM home to Yelp), and the sides were ok.

Desert - Awesome, but is it made there???

This isn't a place I would frequent. The menu is severely pricy, and despite the food we had from the fixed menu being alright, I wouldn't want to hazard a guess (and my paycheque) to check out the rest of the menu to see if the a la carte menu was any better.  It's a great place to show off our magnificent city, and perhaps that should be the price of admission (or dinner), but not to me...No matter the view, the food should always be above par, if it's above the city.

Service was amazing, the wait staff knew how to work a crowd, and make you feel special.

I was here staying at the Empire Landmark Hotel and had to come up to the top to see the place. It was at night and the view was nice. The whole place was surrounded by glass, it wasn't until I looked at the ground I realized this place was revolving.

Just the price will keep people away.

As STUNNING as the views of Vancouver are from this 42nd floor restaurant, the mediocre service I experienced has resulted with a 3-star review...

While visiting Vancouver, my friends and I stayed at the Empire Landmark Hotel on Robson in the heart of the city. (Great location, btw!) After a full-day of sightseeing, we decided to make it easy on ourselves and just take the elevator ride up to the Cloud 9 Restaurant to relax and have a drink before we called it a night.

The views from this restaurant are SPECTACULAR! You really get an amazing view of the city from this high up. And the fact that it is a revolving restaurant really adds to this, as you will be able to have a great view no matter what part of the restaurant you sit at.

Unfortunately, the service was no where as impressive as the views were. Our cocktail waitress wasn't the friendliest and made a point to inform us that "each person must order a drink". Okay, we were planning to anyway, but thanks for the rude reminder.... (rolls eyes). My friend was pregnant at the time so the only things she would be drinking were going to be virgin. Her husband opted to try a Canadian beer (yes, we are silly American tourists) and I settled with a glass of wine.

In addition to our unfriendly cocktail waitress, getting the bill took FOREVER and a day. And finally, we wanted to have our picture taken by the window. Getting a waitstaff to spare a minute to take our picture was like pulling teeth! You'd think they would be a little more understanding considering most of their clientele are out of town guests and this must be a common request?

Regardless of the mediocre service, I highly recommend any guest staying at the Empire Landmark Hotel to check out Cloud 9 on the 42nd floor, even if its just to soak in the view. As for our experience... maybe it was just our unfortunate luck, or maybe we needed to throw down a couple hundreds for an expensive bottle of liquor, as a drink wasn't enough to receive an acceptable degree of good service...

This is a great place to see the city. if you have someone visiting from out of town take them here definitely!
Food is really nothing special, I can't say it is bad, but my chicken with prosciutto was too salty; my friend had a seafood stuffed sole which was also average; and my boyfriend had a steak - average as well. Brownie with mint to finish, was the worst I had, i don't know what went wrong there, but it felt like a safeway brownie stuffed with artificial flavour!
This place could be awesome if they change the food,
It is pricey because of the location of course, so if you are not in the mood for an average- overpriced- meal, but you would like to enjoy the 360 degree view of vancouver, go for an afternoon drink!

No Contest about the View .... AMAZING ... as to be expected.... try to go when you can see the beautiful city both during the day/sunset and the night lights. Just beautiful. Gorgeous city (great to take family or friends from out of town.

The food is like that of the Space Needle in Seattle.... maybe a little better. Its just alright food, sometimes its good, sometimes its down right bad.  I dont know why places like this can't hire awesome chefs... they just rest on their laurels of the views and give mediocre expensive food... its really a shame...

Go for the Beautiful views.... not the food.

This is a love and hate relationship I have with this place. I would love to give you 4, or even 5, but I guess I'm going to have to break this review down as to why you get the nice 3 star!

As a tourist destination, Cloud 9 is the ultimate place to take anyone from out of town to witness how beautiful and stunning Vancouver is. Regardless of day or night, the view from this place is spectacular. The best time to go (in the summer) is probably around 8 PM, and to enjoy a full revolution around you get the best of both worlds, day and night.

I would honestly dodge the food, as it doesn't come up to par with what you are paying for. The food is bland, and not impressive, and when it comes to bland food at a premium, I have a problem. So the other alternative to not eat here, but to go to their lounge side to have drinks. They are average priced, but why you are really here is for the amazing view. And sometimes on certain nights the amazing view comes with some live music.

I got diarrhea within 3 hours of eating their  $40 sampler entre with steak, chorizo, and lamb.  The only reason I didn't give this one star was because the waiter was attentive and the view was good.  I'm still feeling it after my second number 2 within an hour of the last one.  If I do go back, it may just be to the lounge for a drink and to catch the view.  Yes, I'm disappointed, but it just proves that you can still get food sick in a fine dining restaurant.  The first clue should have been the washroom.  It was like Richmond Chinese restaurant washrooms.  They renovated it to be half decent, but it's still dirty.  And I'm guessing the cooks use that washroom and you can't really get clean touching the same dirty taps and door handles as the patrons who forget to wash up after they do their business.  It could have been so much better... :(

The best thing about this restaurant in the amazing view.  In the time it took me to eat dinner, we had rotated twice, ending with an amazing sunset over English Bay. The food was just ok. I ordered the sablefish which was decent but the side of  risotto had zero flavor.. I didn't even know you could make risotto with no flavour. The steamed vegetables were also bland.  My friend ordered the eggplant ravioli and loved it.  For the amount of money that I shelled out for the food and wine, I really expected more.

I'm going to break the chain here and give Cloud 9 a break. I would agree that people go more for the view (and pay for it as well), but you can still have a great experience if you just go for scenery, desserts, and drinks. It's even better when they have live piano that night. I should confess though that I didn't eat dinner there when I went; we just had drinks and dessert (a friend of mine already warned me).

The restaurant does a full spin every hour. It's kind of fun when you leave your table to use the restroom, only to come back out and find your table is forty-five degrees to the left from where it was previously!

While Cloud 9 won't exactly leave you feeling like you're on cloud nine (maybe cloud six or seven?), the view is still worth checking out. The best time to come is before sunset, so you have plenty of time to watch Vancouver at dusk.

This revolving restaurant will leave your head spinning. You will wonder why anyone would eat here. it's certainly not the unappetizing food that draws people.
Instead, it's the view. The restaurant rotates 360 degrees, giving visitors a full view of Vancouver. It takes a while to spin around, so leave yourself some time. If you decide to come for the view, come before sunset so you can experience some of the daytime view and then see the sunset.
Oh, and you might want to eat at home before coming to this restaurant. :)

My wife and I had dinner here on our last night in Vancouver while on honeymoon.

We both really loved the view from the top and we treated to a beautiful sunset despite a cloudy afternoon. The food and prices are pretty standard for a white linen establishment. The service was good.

Some interesting facts about Cloud Nine:

    1.  Cloud 9 has 70 windows, each 6 meters high.
    2.  You can see 200 miles in any direction from the restaurant.
    3. It takes 1 hour and 20 minutes for the restaurant to make one revolution.
    4. You must be paying for the view, because the food is not at all worth the cost.
    5. The chicken was bland.
    6. The water refills infrequent.

The view and service was great...but that's about it. The food was actually quite terrible. I had the roasted red pepper soup to start, a sirloin steak for my entree, and brownie for desert.

The soup was luke warm and tasted like they put boiled red peppers in a blender with some salt. I wasn't impressed at all, I've had better soup out of a can with letters floating in it...

The presentation on the steak was great, but it was like a Denny's steak. Three of us ordered steak at, two medium, one rare...and they all showed up in the same state of grey. The steak was about 1/4" thick, so I can see why it was difficult to cook it properly, but I really expected a better cut at that price. The sauce was also on the disgusting side. It was either really boiled down or left out way too long, because it was chunky/jellied.

The desert was just...terrible. It was a small slice of a costco brownie, with two pieces of canned pineapple and a raspberry coulie. Before heading out, I walked passed the kitchen and actually saw the bulk can of cubed pineapple and Smuckers raspberry coulie.

I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone looking for good food. The view's great, but the food's terrible and and over priced.

The highlight of my first-ever Vancouver trip! Amazing views, elegant yet relaxed setting, and an incredible staff!

I highly recommend this restaurant to tourists. The best way to see the city.

Well worth the pricey menu. You get what you pay for. Great prix fixe menu that will save you some money worth checking out.

    Enjoy :)

Without the beautiful scene of downtown Vancouver with Grouse Mountain as the backdrop, revolving-restaurant technology that should be credited to John Graham and its 42nd floor location, there's not much else that Cloud 9 can offer to a town already blessed with great food and reasonable prices.

That being said, I rolled my mouse a little bit to the right and added another star, thanks to a serving of mussels and clams in white wine and coconut sauce, which was tasty.

Other than that, Cloud 9 reminds me of the biggest Sydney tourist trap - Centrepoint Tower Restaurant, with $45 a head price tag and food whose quality was not that far off from the stuff that we had to put up with in my university's cafeteria.

First of all, yes it spins. That's why the word "revolving" is in the name! Don't expect good food. The way to enjoy this restaurant is as follows: go right around sunset and head straight for the bar. You pay a bit extra for your drinks but it's still a far better deal than the Lookout, which is $13 per person.  With two drinks and Calimari appetizer, we paid $30, stayed 40 mins or so, and really enjoyed the spectacular view.  A trip here is a must if you are visiting Vancouver.
