Review from Laura P.
Cleve's is another downtown location to keep in mind for sports apparel and gear. Much like other stores of this genre, Cleve's boasts an ample selection of both men and women's activity ware of high quality brands.
My recent venture in was met with a cool collection of sales! Women's ware all throughout the store were marked down considerably. Nothing to catch my commitment, but some great workout tops, bras, shorts and bathing suits were up for grabs.
The store covers a lot of ground, and without making me feel like I was in a warehouse. Larger stores like Cleve's can often be hollow and lacking personality, but this location was well put together. With the large selection of clothing in a room all its own, the equipment, accessories and shoes are divided into a separate space farther back.
Lots of great workout gear here, as well as cutesy sports wear by brands like Roxy. Athletes can surely get set up for their organized sports teams, home gyms and all the fancy stuff.
This location is not one to be left off the list if you're in the market. -

I am a fan of the products, not necessarily the staff.
Cleve's is one of the best places to buy sports equipment in Halifax. One of my favorite finds was thanks to a friend. She found out that they have adjustable jump-ropes or skipping-ropes for around four dollars! And these ropes are so good, amateur Boxers are using them!
So you can definitely find some great deals at Cleve's. When it comes to other products such as Tennis Rackets, they try to supply their store with low-cost items for beginners all the way to expensive, high-end ones for professionals. The same pricing philosophy also goes to their footwear. The one section that is always lacking at Cleve's is a weight lifting section. They have one but it always tends to be small. That being said, I understand they can only fit so much into their store.
As for their staff, well they aren't the friendliest. There are a few that are great but most do a really good job avoiding customer's at all costs, not saying hi as they pass by you and giving you the same head turn you gave your teacher when you were a kid in school and didn't want her to ask you a question you didn't know the answer to. So there is tons of room for improvement in that area.
But the customer service isn't enough to deter me. And they aren't rude. They just try to avoid people so you sometimes have to speak up to get their attention. This store, however, does have everything I have ever needed in a sports store. It has locations in downtown Halifax and in the Halifax Shopping Centre. So you don't have to go far to find it. And with deals like thirty dollar Tennis Rackets for beginners and four dollar jump-ropes that amateur Boxers use, how can you go wrong? -

Cleve's has a pretty good selection of sporting goods for a downtown store, and their prices are not half bad. But their customer service is downright atrocious! You can never find a salesperson when you want one, and if you do, they tend to offer a lot of blank looks and "I dunnos".
They have a pretty big footwear selection, but never seem to have my size (and I am an easy size to fit).
Still, it's worth a look around on your own. I'm into boogeyboarding and they have some cool accessories like fins designed just for that, and some decent boards and wetsuits for sale. -

Yow-za! I went into this location today to have a little gander, in search of nothing specific and desiring no real sales pitches. However, I found myself not once, but twice in the company of the most enthusiastic employee, trying to assist me in any way possibly known to human kind.
I was having a larf at a sneaker. It purported to reduce wear and tear on the leg muscles and maximize energy exerted during the walking process. The shoe was foolish looking, with an electric yellow rippling sole and midnight black body. As I stared to walk away from the display, a young man came over to tell me all about the shoe. After a few minutes, I tried to sneak off , but he kept going. He was very nice and energetic but obviously had no clue regarding how to read people. I kept inching further away and he kept talking more and more.
Finally, I escaped him, but only for a moment. When I was sussing out the yoga gear, in particular a carrying case, he came over to assist me. He kept talking and offering opinions when all I wanted to do was to be left to browse. I'm very happy to be offered assistance and sales advice, but there's a time and a place for all customer service offerings, and this dude was throwing everything perpetually on the table, making me want to run away.
I may have bought the little mat tote, had I felt less shadowed by this jazzed employee. I commend the customer service, but strongly urge a tone down. I'll be back again, but maybe next time I'll wear an invisible cloak so as to be left in peace. -

Cleve's has been around for a long time and is now actually located off of Spring Garden road or at least that is how I entered the location.
On a mission to find a pair of sneaker as I have not purchased a pair for about 10 years someone told me about this new location. Walking Spring Garden I decide to pop in and see what they had.
WOW what a location HUGE and OMG the stuff unreal. Everything for the person who is a sports nut. I was on a mission for sneaker which I found extremely challenging as I did not realize the price. Well I found them to be so expensive it actually turned me off of even shopping. Now this is just not Cleve's but all sneakers in general.
I will say they had the largest selection that I have come across in Haliax/Dartmouth. I have gone back a few times to see if this certain pair has gone on sale but as of now I am sneaker less. -

Cleve's is one of the large chain sports stores, this does not mean it is the best though. I never really find a lot in Cleve's. I will say I have bought sneakers when they have their loonie sale on. You can not beat that! Buy one get another for 1 dollar. I do take advantage of that sale.
They tend to run it around back to school.
The staff is always the same at the stores, not sure they really want to be there, but it is a job, that is it plane and simple. -

This sporting goods shop suffices as a pretty good one stop shop for all of your athletic gear. Whether it's a squash racquet or a simple frisbee, Cleve's pretty much has it all. Due to the fact that this place is sort of tucked away on the top floor of park lane (bordering onto Dresen Row) you can also find great sales.

Cleve's is a big, generic sports store that stocks many sports things you may need. Unfortunately, they don't have bike pumps, which was the only thing I was in need of when I visited. Bike pumps seem like one of the more basic bike accessories, so I was surprised, but it seems this store just doesn't do bikes. (The saleswoman looked at me like she didn't understand the request, in fact.) But if you're shopping for other sports, this could be your best bet in the downtown area. Hockey - they've got you covered. Soccer - I saw shin guards galore. Just don't go looking for bikey stuff.
