What can you not like about this rest. It's kids friendly and their kids menu is awesome and also very affordable! Me and my husband dined here the first time a few years ago bec we had kids. We were impressed with the food quality and the dessert selection I am a dessert lover so to me dessert menu is important when dining out! last time we were here was with our twin boys, and I love this place even more bec the fact that their kids menu is perfect for kids! it comes with ice cream for dessert! I will be coming back here always!

Review from Phil S.
Just another corporate restaurant with corporate tasting Sysco frozen then deep fried foods. Sure, they know how to spruce it up a bit better than Applebee's or TGIF but in the end it's just the same young, inexperienced wait staff pushing out the same salty fodder for the masses.
The last time I went, the hostess said it would be somewhat of a wait so we sat down to wait only to watch the next person behind us told the same thing then given the option to sit in the bar area without a wait. At a regular table. Thanks, 17 year old hostess with her head up her arse. I like to wait around and while being insulted.
If I'm going out to pay good money and intake obscene amounts of calories then the food and service better be worth my time and money. I'd rather spend less on a Chipotle burrito than have my taste buds insulted with frozen reconstituted feed for the masses stuff they serve here at premium prices. -

Years ago I had been to the Lombard location when it opened and it was GREAT (everything was made from scratch on the premise), so when looking for a spot to stop at last night after work I thought- oh here's where we're going.
Jackpot- Total happy hour in the bar. This means great deals on drinks and food. Tuesday's featured drink is a margarita, I'm a fool for a $3 Margarita and it was not a disappointment. We also ordered appetizers- Asian BBQ wings ($3), calamari($4), and endless chips and salsa($2). And no portions were not skimpy. The calamari didn't win me over- it was cut into thick strips...which strangely played mind games...I'm a ring eater (strips for grilled, it's just an issue for me) Everything was decent just not addicting. Well the check was- $16.89 for 2 people.
Only thing I found odd was the bartender wore plastic gloves... the whole time...? -

I have been here several times and I wish I could give it a higher rating, but every time I go, the menu is changed. And with that menu change, they take away my favorite things!
I would always get the Jamaican Jerk Chicken Sweet Potato, it's gone. For dessert it was the Lemon Bar Brûlée, it's gone.
Today I had the potato cakes appetizer, they were good, not amazing, but good. And I had the BBQ chicken salad. I had to ask for extra BBQ sauce because there was barely any on the salad.
The menu was different yet again! I hope they figure it out soon and bring back my old favorites. I have yet to find something I love on the new menu. -

Went here on a Sunday night. First, everyone entering was confused as to where the hostess stand was since none was cleared marked. Front staff was slow at acknowledging guests entering. Had to wait for about 20 minutes for a table even though the restaurant wasn't busy and there were open tables.
Food was very slow to come out. Luckily we ordered an appetizer because the entree took forever to come. Even they knew it took too long because a manager brought out our food. And when the food came out, one of the entrees was missing a side item and another was completely the wrong entree. The food was okay taste wise but not fabulous. For the price we paid, I would rather go elsewhere for better food and better service. Probably won't be back. -

Claim Jumper .... what happened to you? We used to love this place, always busy, always packed..
Now?
Meh...
The food and menu are depressing ... Tonight I had the roasted chicken and my wife the grilled chicken pasta.. The bread? tough. seemed like it was frozen from the night before... I dunno....
The grilled chicken was dry, and the sauce blah... my roasted chicken was good, but really tiny ...
The service was good, but really the food is disappointing ...
I remember when you would wait 45 minutes for a table.... now, just walk right in...sit anywhere ...
Sadly we won't be back until we read better reviews on yelp....
Really sad..... -

My sister has a family of her own. She observes Thanksgiving with her in-laws, has Christmas with us and celebrates New Year's among friends.
Four years ago, Naomi and my Brother-in-Law started a family tradition by inviting both our Parents (they're divorced), a family friend and my Boyfriend to dinner at a restaurant on Christmas Eve.
In 2008 & 2009, we made reservations for Claim Jumper. I ordered the same thing and had the same unfortunate experience: NY Strip medium rare, a Baked Potato with Butter, Sour Cream and Chives, a small House Salad with Ranch Dressing and a side of Sauteed Mushrooms.
Someone allowed my plate to sit out too long so by the time it arrived, the steak was cold. When I sent it back, it was returned microwaved and overcooked. I had to ask for my steak to be remade. While everyone else enjoyed their dinner, I waited... my dinner was comped by Management for being inconvenienced.
Last Christmas Eve, I told my Sister Claim Jumber went out of business and she believed me. We went to the Red Lantern.
This year, we're back! I decided to let my Server know my problem right away. She assured me everything would be okay. I gave her and the kitchen the benefit of doubt but it slipped away with each passing minute that went by without food on our table.
NO STEAK COOKED-TO-ORDER MEDIUM RARE TAKES 45 MINUTES!
For a meal costing my Sister and Pete $28.98 + drinks and dessert, it requires worthiness. If I didn't try to be proactive earlier, I would've reacted!
Read my reviews. 99% of my meals are prepared by someone else. This is the only restaurant that compells me to complain.
My dinner was warm at best; it needed A1 and my goddamn baked potato was naked! I wouldn't have needed a condiment if my steak was served hot, tender, bleeding juices and sizzling in butter sauce.
The consistency of their negligence is the reason I don't dine here any other time of year . I really wish my Sister would reconsider where to spend hundreds of dollars. There are other steak houses more deserving of her patronage. They're never going to change and aspire to be better and by us coming here, we're part of the problem by being enablers.
DEAR CHEF: this is not Hell's Kitchen. You are accountable for the food that comes out. What is representative of you and your staff screams you desperately need a Chef de Cuisine or Chef Ramsey to come and kick your arse!
If you are not equipped to handle the volume of people who come through your doors, save yourself from embarassment and close for the holidays. -
Review from Anna B.
I'm conflicted about this place, hence the three star rating.
First, this place can get expensive quick. The entrees are $15 and up. Sort of a lot for an Applebees type place. Yes, it's nicer than an Applebees, but I can't honestly say the food is THAT much better.
They had amazing happy hour specials which can more than satiate one. Highly recommend! The food is good. Pleasant surprises; salt and pepper zuchini and thai cole slaw. Seriously, the slaw deserves to be a meal in itself.
We went on a Sunday afternoon during a Bears game. The place was empty and the waitstaff was very attentive.
Go for the happy hour and have fun! -

I always review places, I've gone to at least a few times to be able to judge a place. With that being said, I think they serve over priced food. There are dishes there that are good, but quite honestly I feel its some kinda glorified gourmet-esque spin on traditional American food. Seems chainy, don't know if it is....but with that being said, I've had better from Chili's. Don't get me wrong, the food is good...but know it's a little over priced for something just above mediocrity. This resturant is like a roided up Boston Market with amazing soup and bread bowls. Oh also almost all the dinners are big portions. I have no complaints about their staff, all equally attentive. They also have this Happy Hour special, which is seating you at the bar, and they advertise drink specials and appetizer specials. We have done it once, and decided we didn't care for it much because the only real specials were drinks (not big drinkers). The low price for appetizers, is not a deal, you pay for less. For example the pretzel sticks (SUPER YUMMY) their full order is 7 sticks, the "happy hour deal" you receive 3 I believe. The happy hour bar is great just that, Happy Hour.....drink and eat small portions of food.
In conclusion .......
I will still go....because I know what to expect...it's close and well I like wasting money. -

Absolutely the worst food from a restaurant that I have had in a long time. I had or should say returned the Tilapia Bianca. The dish came out and I thought the fish was presented on potato pancakes. This was actually the fish. Terrible meal. They tried to make up for it with a piece of their chocalate cake which wad good but doesn't come close to Portillos cake. My wife had a chicken dish which she enjoyed. This is the second time that we have had bad food at the Hoffman CJ. Drive the distance to the Oakbrook CJ for better quality and service.

My friendship cannot be questioned after agreeing to meet here for an early dinner. These sorts of cavernous, herd-gathering locales for perpetual overeaters are simply not my cup of tea. All I kept thinking was..
Fat
Fat
Fat
Fat......
And does anyone get out of here alive?
We were promptly and enthusiastically seated, and I quickly glanced round to see families nose first into piles of ribs, burgers, pizza, oozing pastas, and breaded unknowns.
It was located in a mall which strived valiantly to be upscale and chic whilst packaged in parvenu desperation. Not that it was all bad; the beamed ceilings and wood overtones were appealing, and the seating added a clubby 'gathering table' ambience.
My companion ordered quesadillas, whilst I finally decided on the oven roasted tomato flatbread with spinach. It was actually good, though much too large and rich to finish.
Nothing exceptional or irretrievable offensive here, just an experience I'd rather not repeat. -

In the cold weather, try the Chicken Pot Pie-- Awesome! Ribs and rib tips are great choices too. Too much cheap squash in the veggies, so select the beans instead- very good.
Desserts are large and sinful. Be prepared for a $60.00 tab for 2 with a drink. -

My mother took me out to eat for my birthday, and we settled on Claim Jumper simply because I had never been and she raved about their food when it first opened.
As any chain restaurant (think T.G.I. Fridays, Houlihans, etc.), the drinks have about one shot in them of every liquor. Not worth the $8.00. When I order a Long Island Iced Tea with Bacardi 151, I expect at least a buzz before the food arrives. Stick with beer or wine with a set liquor content when purchasing liquor here.
Searching the menu for a vegetarian, gluten-free option was a tad tedious and I almost settled for appetizers and a drink. That was when I realized the menu item I surpassed assuming it was, like the picture next to it, a pot pie dish, was really a GIANT potato stuffed with vegetables.
The potato came with salsa, and needed a lot more to moisten the entire contents, but the vegetables inside were cooked to sweet perfection, similar to how they come out wrapped in foil and placed on the grill.
For dessert, we decided on a monstrous heaping ice cream pie slice dripping with hot fudge, slowly hardening, held together by an Oreo cookie crust. I can say this; I would definitely go back to Claim Jumper just for dessert. They sell a cake, 6-layers I believe, and once slice is approximately $10. It comes on a plate that would make a football look small, and will definitely leave you in a chocolate-overdose, sugar coma. -

I use to go here more before they switched management. Menu changed, taking away some of my favorite items and changing up dishes to have different sides. Love the food just wish some things didn't change. AMAZING deserts! Sometimes I'm tempted to only go for deserts now. :)
Service during lunch for weekdays and weekends has always been good. Service at the bar after work has been good as well.
Never had a bad experience other than the menu and items changing over night. Guess that happens with corporate chains... -

YIKES. What can I say about this place...
First of all, I'm originally from Chicago but lived in Arizona for the past couple years. There is a Claim Jumper in the Phoenix area and I LOVED it when I lived there. The food was super delicious, and I never had any issues with the service. When I moved back to Chicagoland area, I was happy to find out that there were Claim Jumper restaurants here as well.
I dined at Claim Jumper with my parents on Christmas Eve. When we arrived, we were promptly given a table and menus. We sat there for 15 minutes and, during the 15 minutes, no one stopped by our table to offer us drinks or even acknowledge our presence there. Keep in mind, this place was not at all busy at this time. At this point, I went over to the hostess stand and told a girl that no one had come by our table yet. She then walked over with me and took our drink and food orders. A couple minutes later, a very pregnant waitress came over to bring bread to our table and she apologized and said the long wait was her fault. We didn't see her again until after we got our food, which was delivered by the same girl I spoke to from the hostess stand. The waitress came over to check on us after we received our food and then came over again to bring us our check and offer free dessert. Although I appreciated the apology and free dessert offer, the fact that we sat there for an extended period of time without an employee acknowledging us was unacceptable.
Regarding the food, my grilled chicken was very dry and hard to cut into. My vegetables and mashed potatoes were very salty. My dad ordered the country fried chicken, which he only took a few bites off because it was so salty. I forget what my mom ordered...some kind of sandwich...she didn't have any problems with her food. My dad ended up eating half her sandwich because his food was not edible.
I'm giving this place one star due to the very poor service and very poor quality of the food. Such a shame...I really wanted to love it as much as I love the Arizona locations. -

I and my friends had our monthly dinner night out, I chose Claim Jumper, it was a place we all had been at least once before, it was a good driving distance for us all, 9 people total, has a full bar, good food, plenty of parking, large booth table, and the food was good.
What we didn't enjoy was our server, hampered by a manager that didn't really mind that we weren't getting the service most people would have expected from a good dinning establishment. 5 of my friends were having drinks, and also a glass of water with dinner, we were not allowed by the manager to have a pitcher of water, so we had to endure constand conversation interuptions from the hampered server asking if we needed more water.
We also had, me included, a few people that wanted a little extra food with our dinners, I love the Fish Tacos, and ordered the taco dinner, with an extra taco. The manager was unable to charge me for just the one taco, I had to order and was expected to pay for an entire extra dinner, for just the one extra taco. I have made the request on 2 other visits sucessfuly, and was upset that this manager didn't "know how to charge me for just one taco".
I also was dissapointed in the menu, I'm a guy, visual by nature, and would have loved to see some more pictures of the dishes served in this place, I believe I saw about 6 total. Not exactly ideal, and my brother had mentioned it to me as well.
I took a vote at the end of our dinning experience and not one of my 9 friends would like to come back.
The manager did, in the end, after I had expressed my disbelief that he didn't posess the abillity or knowledge to correctly charge me for dinner, or "it's our policy to not have pitchers of water on guests tables" that he did finnaly did recall how to bill me accourdinly to my reqest.
I feel that Claim Jumper would and could have been a much nicer experience for my friends and I if this manager would have been motivated to provide better service, and posess the abillity and desire to give good service. It's sad that one person in a leadership roll can tarnish the reputation of a place, when so many others working there are doing a good job.
My final advice would be try it once, good food, full bar, ample parking, but you may get the same manager as us, and ruin your evening. -

Nothing impressive here. Didn't find anything special about the ribs like everyone claims. I think it's expensive for nothing.

I normally try to avoid chains like this, but we happened to be in the area and it was 9PM, so choices are limited in the burbs.
We immediately seated ourselves in the bar. There were not many people at this time of the night.
1. Ordered the Claim Jumper beer - a Red and Hefe... they were both terrible! The red tasted almost like water. The Hefe was just sour, but at least it had a little flavor. I have tried a lot of beer, but this is one of the few times, I sent it away after a couple of sips. We ended up ordering an Anchor Steam and a Organic Pale Ale in bottles. I figured they couldn't mess that up.
2. Our server, "Sheriff" Jessica, was spirited and friendly. She took our bitching about the beer in stride even though she clearly could not relate to our beer snobbery. She did a good job of taking care of us.
3. The food was OK. Nothing to rave about, but the portions were generous. The Jamaican stuffed sweet potato was a nice diversion. The Whiskey chicken was kind of disappointing in that it tasted like the sauce was more like sugar than whiskey. We had raspberry white chocolate cheesecake for dessert. It was huge and the two of us could not finish it. That is a rarity.
I finished the night with an 18 year Glenfiddich.
I probably wouldn't go back to this place. There just wasn't anything special about it. I know places where I can get much better beer and the food is easy to beat. -

Not a place to go to if you are on a diet. Come here for lunch a lot and their service is always speedy even when packed, orders have always been prompt, staff has always been customer service oriented, and the food tastes good.
I use their take-out service and it has been up to par. -

My third visit to Claim Jumper (ever) will most likely be my last. Granted, it was a busy Friday night, but I'd made reservations for my party of 3. I was told we'd be seated as soon as possible. So, we waited, and waited, and waited at least 20 minutes until everyone else had been seated before us. Did they all have reservations? Doubt it. Finally, my friend got a manager's attention, and suddenly we were seated right away at one of several empty tables.
The food was OK, the wine was OK, the service was minimal. The kitchen messed up my order TWICE. I wasn't about to send it back a second time, so I just ate it. The server was nice, but not around much.
Overall, I wasn't impressed. There are a lot of choices for places to eat in the area. I would think Claim Jumper would try a little harder. I don't plan to give them another chance, though. -

Three of us had a Saturday lunch here. Our server Sean rates 5 stars. He did everything right. I dropped the rating down to 3 stars because of the price. Three entrees, 2 sodas and 1 appetizer came tallied up to a $65.00 lunch. We had the chicken tenders, chopped steak and beef tip entrees. All of the food tasted good. I just think that there are many similar restaurants like TGIFridays, Ruby Tuesday's, Applebees, etc. where you can get the same quality food for about 1/3rd less cost. There is nothing to bring me back to Claim Jumpers.

I was really disappointed with this place. Granted it was a busy Sunday and, being a waitress myself, I've definitely know how that feels....but our appetizers, food, water.....even closing our the BILL took way too long. Our waitress seemed frazzled, as though she couldn't handle her tables. I felt bad.... but ignored.
With that said, the food was alright. The appetizer and entrees had large proportions and were very, very rich. The fried zucchini was nicely breaded and they gave a huge amount. We were planning on bringing some home but ended up eating all of it since our food took so long to get to us. My boyfriend had the Meatloaf and Mashed Potatoes while I went with the Tilapia Bianca. They were both alright. I did feel like my dish was a little too rich for my liking, but my boyfriend liked his. We definitely had to bring both home. (I still don't understand why our waitress only brought 1 box to us originally then took a while to give us a second...)
You do get the most out of your money but there's nothing about this place that would make me really want to go back. -

Just a quick review:
Claim Jumper is a chain. With that said, the following will not be a surprise...The food is ok, but nothing great. Portions sizes are
*huge*.
During my visit, service was good. The server did her best to keep my iced tea full. -

wow...i'm disappointed. Been here a half dozen times. All good dining experiences. I ordered the char-broiled chicken pasta with artichokes. The chicken was not char-broiled. It looked under-cooked. I told the manager about it. He said the chicken is cooked ahead of time. They warm it up and slice it when they need it. That sucks!!!!
Nothing was comped. It's New Year's Eve...and not crowded. I think you could h as v ed done better. -
Review from Julie O.
I have been here twice and see no reason to ever go back. My food was bland and boring, which sucks because my server said I ordered the best sandwich on the menu. Portions were not large at all. The desserts did not match the menu descriptions.
The two stars are there because the restaurant was very clean and the server was attentive and helpful. -
Review from Steve G.
Had the chicken club sandwich, the one with avocado. Kind of off-putting when it arrived. It was like some kind of Fred Flintstone-sized thing. The sandwich was covered in bread slices AT LEAST ONE INCH in thickness and buttered and toasted. I removed one of the slices of bread, but it was still too big for my big mouth... Ended up eating it with a fork. Slaw was good though.
Ambiance is Gold Rush bar meets industrial warehouse meets Northwoods log cabin meets amphitheater. I've got to say, they pull it off well... *grin*
TIP: The bar was half empty at 10pm on a Friday. -

I pretty much only end up at Claim Jumper when the wait at Cooper's Hawk is just too long. This is exactly what happened last night. We went for dinner and some drinks. I have to say that the service is great but the food is just so mediocre.
I had the Rotisserie Chicken which the description says they;ve had the same recipe since 1977. I figured this should be their specialty but I have to say, I prefer Boston Market rotisserie. My husband got Tri-Tips which he said were a little too fatty. It wasn't bad food but ti wasn't good either. Just average. -

I work right around the corner from here, and was brought here my first day on the job. Needless to say, I was more nervous than hungry so I didn't remember the food whatsoever. So I was excited to make a return trip with a group of friends the other night.
For starters.. MAKE A RESERVATION ON THE WEEKEND! It was like they were giving food away! I knew there was going to be a large group of us (7 people) so I went ahead and made one.. boy was I happy I did. We still waited 20min for a table, but if you feed me, I'll wait an eternity.
I ordered the Macadamia nut crusted Mahi Mahi....it was in like a peanut sauce.. good lord was it good. I was so engaged in my food, I ignored the rest of my friends.
Everything was cooked perfectly and the sauce was plate licking worthy. I also like that they offer to serve me a Guinness in a 23oz glass... Hell yeah I want 23oz! -

I've been to this location a few times and have had some mixed results. I didn't really care for their Prime Rib on my last visit.
This weekend I found a new favorite dish, the Pork Loin. They give you a generous portion of sliced pork loin over the mashed potatoes, along with some healthy and yummy squash/zucchini. In addition, they give you this big ass biscuit; I loved that buttermilk biscuit. Needless to say my meal was a 5, the service was a 5 since my soft drink was actually refilled and the waiter actually was engaging and had a good repore with our table.
The next visit I might just try the Jambalaya or the meatloaf sandwich that my fellow diners had. Oh, and they do take reservations, so avoid the wait. -

The food at Claim Jumper is not bad, its just...O.K. Most of the food here is nothing special, but you won't have a bad meal. The interior of this location is very nice, not as rustic as those out West.
Things I like:
The french onion soup (very good)
Texas Toast (very good but not good for you)
Women's bathroom (spectacular) -

Great place to dine--my family and I had a FANTASTIC time last night! Our waiter was amazing, attentive, and this was on a really, really busy night!
So we went out to eat last night (the night before Valentine's day) right at prime dinner hour without reservations with two little kids. Our bad. We thought it might be a disaster, but it was a really, really great dining experience!
It was me, my husband, and our two kids--four and one. For the one-year old, they have the little placemats that stick to the table, and that helps with the mess-control! My daughter ordered macaroni and cheese, and we figured the one-year old would just share with all of us. Instead, our waiter brought out a tray with turkey, cheese, mandarin oranges and apples for him to snack on. And it was free! I was shocked!
I ordered the french onion soup and a BBQ chicken salad--I loved EVERYTHING about both of them. The cheese on top of the soup was so melty, but crispy where it was supposed to be, just how I like it! :) And the BBQ sauce that comes with the salad was so delicious! The salad was HUGE, though, so if you want to be able to take some home, ask for the dressing on the side :)
My husband got the ribs with the side of steamed veggies and macaroni and cheese. He said his sides were good, but the ribs were just so/so. My daughter got her macaroni with apples and mandarin oranges. There was SO much food. I was really impressed at how much food came with her meal for only $5 including a drink. SUCH a good value!
And I can't say enough good things about the service! It was really crowded, and we got a lot of personal attention. For four of us to eat, it was $48 not including tip, and we gave our waiter $60. He came back as we were packing up just to say thank you for the generous tip. I thought that was really sweet--good service deserves a good tip!
All in all, great food, great service, and I will definitely be visiting again SOON!! -
Review from Rita B.
If you like big portions this is def a place for you to check out.
I've had some good and some bad experiences here BUT I always come back because they do have huge variety of dishes. And overall I really do like the food here.
This last visit I ordered the cheddar potato soup. One bite and i hated it. It was so cheesy! The server brought me something else. French onion soup...yum. They use their white bread instead of pumpernickel bread but hey, it's still tasty.
The tomato basil pizza (big enough for two people) is THE BEST!!!!! I mean, I love it. I tried to google the recipe so that I could make it at home (no luck). I could have the pizza every time I go and I wouldn't complain.
Dessert was a HUGE piece of chocolate cake that we couldn't even make a dent in. The cake was more on the dry side and the frosting had chunks of chocolate which was way too much for me. It took us 3 days of nibbling to make some kind of damage. In the end, we tossed out the cake. It was not my favorite.
Seating and decor are kind of cool. It's got a log cabin feel to it but you may feel consumed by the large booth. -

Recommended that my coworkers come here for happy hour because on the website it said that they were offering $4 mojitos. What a lie. When we got there the server told us that they only had food specials, not drink specials. Who has happy hour without drink specials?? Even though the food was pretty good, I'm still a little pissed that they couldn't update their website to reflect this change.

I'm surprised there's only an average of three stars for this restaurant. I've always found their food fresh and tasty no matter what I've ordered. They are extremely generous by giving you a free entree (up to $18) if you sign up on their website. And even if you're with someone who orders a cheaper entree, they apply the discount to yours.
This was my first visit to this particular location and it is just as good as the Lombard restaurant. I ordered the rotisserie chicken which was really good. The BBQ sauce it comes with is extremely good (tasted almost the same as the one The Pit uses in Hickory Hills). I had the cheese potato cakes as my side which are always delicious, and filling. My husband had the frisco burger which he liked. The burgers come with really thin fries which are ok. -

Claim Jumpers: Because You Can't Always Pay Market Price
We decided to swing by Claim Jumpers on a whim. It was eating here or seeing a movie and the movie was going to run too long for our plans so Claim Jumpers it was! We ate in the late afternoon so the place was relatively quiet, even so our server was attentive but not the point of the obsession I prefer. That said, I'm not about to poo-poo a place based on service as I've worked service and I know that every day can be a wholly different adventure.
Food-wise, I wasn't bowled over. We ordered a couple burgers so I wasn't expecting cuisine riche but seriously, how difficult is it to make a $11 kitsch burger memorable? My Hickory BBQ burger was just average, nothing to write home about. The sauce could've had something more to it, instead it tasted like a sweeter Sweet Baby Ray's. The spicy Thai peanut slaw I had on the side was pretty rank, way too much cilantro and not enough peanut.
One thing I'll give them is it was filling. They certainly didn't take the cow's feelings into consideration when deciding how much to slap on the bun. This hulking, brute of a burger stuffed me like a deer head and made no excuses. That's really where the stars come from. For $11 I surely didn't mind how much food I got... just how good the food was.
Bring the clan to Claim Jumpers on payday, go hog wild. But take home half your your dish to make the trip worth it. -

The food is in one word... amazing! I highly doubt you could possibly find something you don't like here. I had the widow burger ($10), which was about 3" thick (had onion rings on it too), the fries come in many forms, including potato sticks (which I got). My wife got the fish ($16) which was halibut dipped in ale batter. The fish was so fresh it didn't even taste like fish, it tastes like cheese!
They ran out of the chocolate cake, but I hear it's to die for. It's a cake about a foot high, and they cut a HUGE chunk out ($8 cake, I suggest sharing it with 3 other people). The service is excellent, and they also have runners to help out (and if you don't see your waitress, your supposed to just grab anyone walking by and they're happy to grab you something). The kitchen is completely open to the dining area, so you can see exactly what's going on (and smell all the delicous food). One tip though, a lot of their meals are the same portion for lunch as the dinner, cept you pay less at lunchtime. -

I first tried to walk into Claim Jumpers on a Saturday night and they told me that they had a 2 1/2 hour wait.
Hold up.
2 1/2 hours to wait for a chain restaurant in the suburbs at 9:30pm? What the...
Anyways, my return trip made it worth my while. Their burgers are pretty pricey, but they seemed on-par with RAM burgers. However, they have a lot of other great specials and huge portions. You may think that you'll break your bank eating here, but the truth is - you'll have enough for a few meals with the portions. I ordered the Jamaican Sweet Potato. They provided a whole, huge sweet potato, and loaded it with chicken, and lots of other goodies. Yum!
I gave them an extra star for having Equal, Splenda, and some seriously awesome hot tea (large leaf pieces, none of that dusty garbage) at a great price. I cannot tolerate bad tea with Sweet-n-Low. -

TWO WORDS....
Cheesy Potatocakes. Or should that be three words? In any case, imagine heavenly hockey pucks made with mashed potatoes, Parmesan, cheddar, and jack cheese, fried to perfection, and served with and herbed ranch salsa. Un-freakin-believable! Other standouts include the cobb sandwich, chicken pot pie, ribs, and the meatloaf.
I was surprised to see all the bad reviews as this place is beloved back in Cali. I think maybe because expectations are too high. CJs is where you go for massive quantities of slightly above average casual dining fare, NOT the place you go to order a nice ribeye steak and a bottle of wine. Perhaps when they changed the decor to be less gold rush and more upscale hunting lodge people got the wrong idea.
In any case, stick with the home-style stick-to-your-ribs kinds of food and you can't go wrong. -

Went to this rustic-esque eatery yesterday with the family, so we had the opportunity to try a plethora of dishes. The large appetizer variety platter was outstanding as far as fried food goes. Bigass honkin' mozzarella sticks you could clog the widest of artery with! Yummy cheesy potato cakes and all the onion rings you could wish for. The highlight of this platter was the grilled artichoke! "Dear Artichoke Heart, I know you don't like me, but if you don't somehow stop me from putting you in my mouth, you will be devoured!"
I didn't try the meatloaf, but you could use the 2 big slices as counterweights on a scale to weigh babies at the hospital! The fish 'n chips (breaded halibut) was quite good and enough to feed more than two (but it's no Irish Mill !!!!)
Portions are outrageously gigantic. Steaks were priced about the same as Chicago Chop House, so why risk a steak at a chain when you know your value at the Chop House is a guaranteed 5-star "Yum!!!" ?? My two cents...
Eh, I could take it or leave it. I'd go back if others wanted to, but wouldn't do so on my own volition. -

Not impressed.
Came here a few weeks after it opened for my birthday dinner with my husband. With all of the hype, and the spotlights, and the parking lot being packed full I was expecting something great.
The wait was horrible. 2 hours??? We thought this was some kind of tell about how good the food would be when we finally got to sit.
First off... the place has no walls between the bar, the booths, and the kitchen, and the ceiling is high creating a massive echo of noise. It's a horrible atmosphere. Loud and hard to carry on a conversation because you can't hear anything.
The price is HORRID. I think we spent a little over $140 for a couple of steaks and some cheap wine. The food was not impressive and the waitress we had was terrible at getting back to us to see if we needed anything.
We live about 10 mins from here and havent even considered going back once.
For all the noise at Claim Jumpers, I'd much rather be at Buffalo Wild Wings across the parking lot, eating chicken wings that aren't overpriced, being served by someone who is capable of their job.
I'd rate 0 stars if I could. Will never go back here again.
