I'd been wanting to do laser hair removal for years, so have done my share of research of places that offered it in the Bay Area. When I came across City Skin on Yelp, they were by far the least expensive laser clinic I'd found, and had so many raving reviews, I figured I'd give 'em a shot.
I'm so glad I did. The staff is so professional, friendly, and quick! I'm always amazed at how fast they are. While laser hair removal certainly does not feel good, it's no worse than waxing. And the ladies here make it as painless as possible for you, always providing some distracting conversation through the entire process.
They offer free consultations if you want to chat with them prior to making a hair-removal appointment. And if you decide to go ahead with a session, they will offer you some wine while you wait - something I highly recommend accepting, as the mild buzz will definitely help with the pain!
I've been SO happy with the results. After using all of the sessions from the packages I initially purchased, I already went ahead and bought more for other areas.

I have been coming here for years. I have to say besides my plastic surgeon in Beverly Hills, I will not let anyone else but these people touch my face. My face is like all i have to work with so its very important to me,and since i have had laser hairremoval lifes been alot better. they use like state of the art lasers, and every time i come there they always are working on new things. a real nurse will sit down with you and give you a brief consult, which to my opinion, just adds to good ethics and they follow state guidelines to a tee. But not without luxery, im usually offered a glass of wine or water or soda, im always stunned at how pretty the women that work there are.any who, im going back fer sure, and probably forever. cost is pretty awesome too, especially when u get deals:)

I waited a month before writing this review in hopes that my skin would have improved, but it is worse than ever. I am not sure what went wrong with my IPL Photofacial treatment, but the day after I had a cornflake sized blister on my face (a mentioned potential side affect) and I was so swollen below my eyes that it looked like I had been on a crying jag for days. I couldn't leave the house without sunglasses for a week. A month later the blister has healed and most (but not all) of the swollenness has disappeared. Had I seen any improvement in my skin, I may have felt that the treatment was worth the pain and money, but my skin looks worse than ever. I have a lot more broken blood vessels from the actual treatment and my brown spots didn't budge.

I love this place. very beautiful office.staff- all of them are amazingly friendly. Rena and Marina both did some work on me. All I can say is that they are very friendly, professional and delicate. Their office manager ( Yuliya) is very helpful and amazingly sweet. She always keeps me update with my appointments, and if I have any questions or i need any suggestions she is the one who can help you right away. I defiantly recommend to all my friends to go see them. Too bad I can't add more than just 5stars.

So far, I am very happy with them. I have had just one appt, but they were friendly and knowledgeable, and able to accommodate me on short notice. The office is very welcoming and they have healthy snacks and good magazines. They also do mandatory follow-up appts to make sure that you are happy and everything is as it should be.

Why am I having laser hair removal done on my butt? Well...
You see, I have a lot of hair between my butt cheeks. It's gross. It makes me feel gross.
It's nearly impossible to shave back there without cutting myself, and the cuts usually get infected and last for weeks. Usually they are itchy and painful long enough that they're just healing when I have to shave again and get cut again.
I have to shave back there because if I don't it's nearly impossible to stay clean. Every time I have a bowel movement I have to spend ten minutes with the baby wipes and the toilet paper to get clean. Sometimes I feel like I haven't done a good enough job of cleaning and it ruins my confidence.
Add to that the hair or stubble makes me itch, so every day I have to apply cortisone cream to keep from itching all day long.
Lasers have been fired. My butt is now hairless. Of course, that's just because they shaved it before doing the laser treatment. I have five more sessions to go before the hair is gone permanently.
I was worried when I went in to have laser hair removal done on my butt that it would be really awkward, but it wasn't. The lady at City Laser Clinic that did the work was very professional and made me feel at ease through the whole thing.
Before they started they explained the pricing and that it would probably take several sessions to stop the hair growth permanently. We discussed payment options and they gave me a %15 discount plus three free sessions for buying a package of six, for a total of nine. I probably won't need all nine to complete the hair removal on my butt but I plan on having my armpits done too, so this will save me some money.
Some people complain that CIty is more expensive than other places, but really they aren't. I called and emailed several places and found that the other places usually charged more.
I also like the fact that City is very prompt. Every other place I called insisted that I make a separate appointment for a consultation and then come back on another day to have the treatment done, which is a huge waste of time. When I called City I was like "I'd like to have some hair removal done" and they said "okay when?" I said "do you have any appointments tomorrow" and they said "how about noon?"
Prompt service, fair prices, professional staff. I highly recommend City. -

What more can I say? These ladies are fantastic! As a facial plastic surgeon, I often have patients with sun-damaged skin. I try to get them quickly to City Skin and Laser, and they always thank me.
City Skin and Laser provides exceptional results, and superior service. It's a place clients can go and feel safe and comfortable.
The location on Maiden Lane is also convenient and close to great shopping and eating.
It's great to have a place to refer my patients to where I know they will get good results, because the face is something you don't want to take chances with.

Went in for my services a few weeks ago, expecting to get Rina but didn't. However, the nurse who saw me was still pretty nice. The receptionist applied a cream carelessly, causing an unbearable burning sensation. The nurse realized this and had me washed it off right away. They comped the cost of the cream which was a plus.
I'm giving this establishment 4 stars for service and their attentiveness. The nurse took the time to explain the steps I needed to achieve my goal. But minus 1 for the discomfort caused by the cream and the fact that the receptionist didn't appear too friendly. -

Forty and Fabulous! (or at least it looks that way) Although we cannot turn back the hands of time, thanks to Rena and her staff we can freeze them for several months at a time.
I have tried botox in the past without much avail due to questionable products and not enough serum, however, after a strong recommendation from a colleague I decided to take the leap back into the fountain of youth. And let me tell you- It was worth every poke and pinch. Although I looked like I was attacked by a bee hive seconds after the procedure was done, by the time I got back to the office after "lunch"- I was as good as new.
Everyday for the next ten days my face looked better and better. Time had been frozen. I could still make the necessary facial movements (lift a brow, blink and show expression) but the road map from my eyes to hairline was GONE!! The crows around my eyes were silenced and the hands of time were frozen (and even turned back in my opinion)
Rena is amazing! She definitely makes a difference. Not all face crack (my code name for botox) is created equally- you need the right dosage, trigger points and expertise to administer this product. Not looking frozen or giving you a scary brow lift effect (not good on a man) is an ART!! This needs to be taken into consideration when choosing your dealer, I mean, provider- Smile-
I cannot say enough wonderful things about this place. Beautiful office, fabulous location (Gucci is on the next corner) and exceptional service (Rena herself did a follow up 10 days later) and pointed out a few trouble areas that I did not notice and she wiped them away instantly (part of the service)
Therefore, run, crawl, walk, hop or fly into see Rena and her great staff!! -

They are great - reasonable prices and they are super quick!! Which is what you want when being stung by a laser!! I have had my underarms done before at another place but I need a few more visits to be 100% hair free - I purchased the underarm, Brazilian package - I was scared to expose my lady bits to the light rays of the laser, but thank goodness for the numbing cream - it was no worse than waxing and much faster!! I am looking forward to being hair free before summertime!!
I also reloaded on Latisse - they are running a special through the end of March - buy one for $115 and you get a rebate for a free bottle!! Sweet!! -

If you're considering laser hair removal, don't walk, RUN to City Skin!!
I've had treatment in several places, and it has honestly changed my life. No more rejecting spontaneous bikini adventures and no more 5 o'clock armpit shadow. I recently started doing my lower legs, and so far nothing but great results.
I use the numbing cream for more sensitive areas, but I don't use it on my legs, and it's fine. It just felt like someone was pinching my calf with their fingernails...in a non-painful way....
The staff here is incredible! I primarily see Rena, and she's an angel. An angel that removes my hair and does chemical peels on my face. What I appreciate most about the staff, aside from their incredibly warm demeanor, is that they have never made me feel like I was paying for something that wasn't a good choice for ME. Rena really knows her stuff, and she'll be honest with you about whether or not you are a good candidate for whatever treatment you are thinking about doing. My roommate sees Marina, and loves her too.
Going to City Skin is the best gift you could possibly give to yourself. Great results, sweet staff, tasteful facility with wine/tea/snacks, and absolutely no vibe that they are just trying to sell you something.
Thank you to everyone that works there!! You guys are absolutely the best. You have a life-long client and friend in me.
Also, I did price hunting before going here, and you get a great bang for your buck at this clinic when compared to most reputable places. -

Ok, so some of you have asked for updates - Did it really work? How many treatments were needed? Precisely what time does the streaking through Union Square begin? etc.
Here are the goods:
I completed the package of 6 treatments and used the 3 additional "warranty" treatments allowed in the year following. As they say when you book your first appointment, this is hair *reduction* not removal. So at this point, I spot-shave a few very light-colored hairs every 6-7 weeks or so.
I am thoroughly pleased with the results. I haven't sprung for the next area of my body to go hairless (still thinking armpits are next), but I do believe that is in my future. Strange as this may sound, I actually miss the treatments in a way, because, pain aside, the whole experience is extremely pleasant. Certainly, this has a lot to do with my ritual of the vicodin + red wine cocktail, but also the comforting sweetness of Rena and Marina and everyone else in the office goes a long way to helping me feel cared for.

Over the past 5 years, I've sought laser hair removal for my full legs, bikini area, under ams and arms. I've been told that I have the ideal skin type for these treatments and have had much success.
This is the only place where I was burned. And not just a little burn either.
While the staff was very sweet, nothing is worth risking a scar. When I reported the burn, they had me come in to be examined and promised that the Doctor-owner would follow up with me. Nobody ever followed up. Sure, their prices are great, but go at your own risk.
UPDATE: When I first reported my burn to City Skin and Laser Clinic, they were apologetic, but that is all. When they saw my review on Yelp, they responded differently. Rena contacted me and offered me a complete refund. Her professionalism was greatly appreciated. -

Laser hair removal is painful. It's $!#@!ing painful. It's AAAAAAAAAAH! painful. Yeah, AAAAAAAAAAH! Don't let anybody tell you otherwise. And when it comes to pain management during this procedure, these are the necessary ingredients: numbing cream, wine, and--most importantly--a nurse with great bedside manner.
The nurses here are angels. All of them. I've never been to any kind of doctor's office with more informative, sympathetic, and angelic nurses. One actually calls me "Baby." They tell you stories, they wipe your tears, and they nearly feed you animal crackers. But in this case it's almonds and dried fruit. Oh, and wine!
It helps that the nurses are all patients or at least help themselves with the laser machines. Many of them are naturally hairy with thick, dark hair. They'd be covered in it, and they'll tell you so, as they roll up their shirt sleeves to let you feel their baby-smooth, hairless forearms. Looks like they have no pores. Incredible.
"I want that," is all I can think, but...elsewhere. And so the journey begins. I'm two visits down and four to go. Already the hair is growing back thinner and more slowly. Each visit is 6-8 weeks from the last. The wait would be agonizing, but all I need to do is compare myself to the porn stars of the seventies and I'm feeling a lot better. -

There are a lot of great reviews about City Skin and Laser for their hair removal services (which I'm sure I'll utilize someday), but they also do a great job if you're looking to freeze or fill your face, especially if you don't wanna spend a million dollars to do so (and who does?).
I saw Rena for a little 'tox and also decided to try Radiesse (LOVE IT!) for my "parentheses". She was awesome, the results are fabulous, and with their prices I can afford to get my high-maintenance on when I need to :) -

I've been here twice; I'm getting ready to go to my third appointment. I must say they are very good. The young receptionist seems to be in a daze though, and subdued. LOL, I guess from being subjected to all that laser.
Rena handled my consultation and she was very helpful, answered my questions well and put to rest any apprehensions I had. Hey I was going to plop down a good amount of dough here. Rena also performed the laser hair removal on me and was quite gentle considering it's a somewhat painful experience. I am very happy with the results so far. Nice, smooth, legs. :D. Thank God, I am free of nicks and stubble! Depending on what you're having done, I would recommend buying the package deal. It will definitely take several treatments to get rid of the unwanted hair, plus if they still have the same special, with a package of 6 treatments you'll also get 3 free touch ups to eliminate any stragglers.
Like every one else says, give yourself at least 30 minutes prior to the start of your appointment for the numbing cream to take effect (you'll be happy that you did). And take advantage of the free wine, that will numb you up too. ;)
I'm not speaking from experience, but I hear that Marina is also excellent at laser hair removal.
Keep in mind that if you have any areas that have tattoos on them that will undergo the laser treatment, have the nurse go around it. Unless you want your tattoo faded, because mine did. Fortunately, just a little. -

With the economy the way is has been, I have been holding back on my Botox injections. With my forehead creases starting to look as deep as the Grand Canyon, I decided to use my birthday money and treat myself to some injectable rejuvenation. My friend recommended I try a new place that he has been going to: City Skin & Laser Clinic. I called and made an appointment with Rena. She was very professional and made me feel at ease....even she didn't know I am far from a Botox virgin and have no fear of the stuff! I can easily suggest this place to all my friends who are first timers. Thank you Rena...I am loving the results!

Not for women of color!!
I went to City Skin and Laser for a consultation for laser hair removal, and was pretty much sent away after they saw I was African American. I am not particularly dark-skinned (maybe a carmel color) and I was told upon seeing the area to be lasered that it was, "no good, too dark." They did perform a patch test on a small area on the lowest setting which was perfectly fine after the 48 hours they told me to watch it for. (There was no hyper or hypo pigmentation which was their major concern.) When I called to report back to them, I was told that they had spoken to the doctor (whom I never saw) and that they would not do the procedure.
I can respect them being cautious for safety and liability reasons, but they should learn to handle such issues with professionalism and tact. I have a friend who is also African American who is getting the same treatments using the same technology in L.A., and was told by the nurse who does her procedures that, "skin color doesn't matter if you know what you're doing." Hmmmmm. . . . . -

KEY TIP for the first timers: The numbing cream is most effective after 1.5 hours. The 30 minutes they recommend is truly NOT enough time. Trust me. I'm a pain phobe! -

Great classy place! I love how they offer you wine or water while you are waiting. Prices are very good. I got almost my whole body done for about 2,500 with a 15% discount from their summer deal advertised on their website. Rena and Marina really take their time and even chat while undergoing the procedure.
Virtually painless if you put the numbing cream on 1 hour before the procedure. -

This place is amazing!
I went here for several IPL treatments for rosacea. I had been paying almost twice the price at Aneu and barely seeing any results. City Skin and Laser has the latest equipment and it really shows: my rosacea is almost completely gone, my pores are smaller, my skin is smoother.... I'm just so thrilled!
Both the women who run it are fabulous and the office has a great vibe. This is the place to go for IPL! -

Had the most amazing results after doing a full laser treatment. The staff and the level of service was FANTASTIC! The treatment gave me %100 satisfaction. I have sent many clients in the past year and everyone was very pleased. The new laser is fast and painless. The girls always give you extra attention. Love them! Also tried a few fillers, can't stop now as it looks so natural and they always give you what you need to look natural.

Dude riding home on your bicycle feels SOOOOOOOOOOO WEIRD when your entire nether regions are numb from lazer hair removal. That and your drunk cuz they give you free wine. Always an adventure, people.
Well, I've just completed three full brazilian plus perianal treatments and let me tell you ladies, it is worth every penny. I'm a Jewish woman. Think dark curly thick hair. My boyfriend is VERY pleased with the results. So am I! Soooo much better than waxing.
I find myself shaving in between treatments (which was totally unthinkable in the pre-lazer era due to horrendous ingrowns) and I now have practically zero ingrown hairs. Now, if i ever do get ingrowns, they are so much less of a hassle, and they are way easy to remove.
Usually it takes about a week for hair to start falling out and then on the 11th day, magically it all falls out at once. Yay for the 11th day!!! OMG and like 60% of my hair was GONE after the first treatment, and at least 80% after that. Now I only have tiny little patches here and there...
I will be honest. My first treatment hurt like hell. I was screaming and crying and then I was just laughing. But not a good kind of laughing. Just like "this hurts so much and I am screaming so loud that I am laughing at my own reaction". But I am a wuss when it comes to pain. The 2nd treatment, not nearly as bad and the third was definitely equal or less than the amount of pain associated with a Brazilian wax. Just do it. It is so totally worth it. I'm kinda thinking about doing my underarms next.
I'd give them 5 stars cuz they are awesome, clean, professional, nice, calming, etc. but c'mon people, nobody actually LOVES having a laser shot into their lady parts, do they? Lets be real. 4 stars for this "service" is as good as you're gonna get outta me. -

Rena is fantastic.
She is friendly, patient, knows what she's doing, and fun to talk to.
Not only the technician is wonderful, but the result is remarkable, too. When I went there for under arm hair removal, I was recommended to purchase a package of 6 sessions (comes with free numbing cream and 1 year warranty), and I was a bit hesitant because I wasn't sure if I needed that many sessions. Turned out, Rena was so right about it.
Because my under arm result was so great, I'm now going there for other services.

I went in for laser hair removal. Why haven't I done this sooner?!?!?
I went in for my first session for my underarm. It has been a couple weeks now and I see great results already! I live on the Peninsula and have done my research as to who a good candidate for this is and where to go for the best prices. This place is definitely the cheapest in SF and around my area.
I had put on numbing cream a little over 30 minutes, I've tried to put it on even earlier based on another yelpers recommendation. Maybe I didn't put enough on, but the procedure was still painful. It's like little needles are being pinched into my skin. I can't imagine what it's like not having the cream. The good side is that the pain is instant and doesn't last. The procedure is only around minutes for me so at least that's how long I have to suck it up for.
The results are amazing!! I am Asian and would have to shave every day, now I just shave once like every 2-3 days to get rid of the ones that haven't been zapped yet. I can't wait to go back for my 2nd session and see the results! -

I have mixed feelings about this place.
If I were basing my review solely on customer service I would definitely only give it 3, but I've actually been really pleased with the results and am considering going back when I can afford it. The nurses are lovely, the setting is nice, they give you a huge glass of wine, and like I said the results have been good. I'm into my complimentary 3 and I still have hair but it is about 20% of what it used to be and I never imagined I would get perfect results anyway.
I need to ask a question though: For my 6 paid sessions they used one machine and for my complimentary ones they are using a different one, saying that this new one is better for me. Does anyone know why that would be? I'm a little scared to ask.
Which brings me to my next point. The nurses may be lovely and sweet but the reception staff can come off a little, shall we say, brusque. They have also phoned me for at least 2 of my 6 appointments to see if I can come at another time which strikes me as a little disorganized. I know that they are always busy (a good sign I suppose) so I always change it and have missed other things as a result of that. One time, I changed my appointment and even though they had called me twice over the weekend to confirm my new appointment time, they had no record of it when I arrived. Again I had missed something else for this so I was more than a little steamed. They did give me one of their wonder pots of numbing cream as compensation which was a nice gesture. Necessary too because those little tubs set you back $40 piece and 7 full bikini sessions in I'm already on my third. Maybe I'm just a wimp. -

Marina and Rena are goddesses!! Just to think that I will never need to shave again in my life makes me wanna go hug them over and over again. They are very knowledgeable, very friendly and make you feel so so comfortable. They offer their services at EXCELLENT prices, and if you buy laser hair removal package of 6, then you get free touch ups for the next one year after your last treatment.. how cool is that??!!
I had price-shopped a lot, and they are definitely the best price out there. Not just that, they have a lot of experience, and excellent feedback and customer satisfaction.
They are located on 166 Geary as of now.. in the Flying Beauticians salon. But from November, they will be moving to the Maiden Lane salon, just a block down and also on Union Square. -

I've gone for 6 treatments, with a variety of staff members. One of them is often rushed, and the receptionist always seems to have a bad day, but the others are great.
Compared to other places, the prices are good, and if you get a package there's a discount. With a 6 treatment package, you get free touch ups if you need it.
I definitely notice a lot less hair, though it's not 100% gone. The first time they go easy on you to see how your skin reacts. Mine didn't at all, and the second time I went was the most painful as they cranked up the laser. But at least it's very brief.
They always offer you water, wine, or snacks, which is a nice touch. If you come in early for the numbing cream (and you really should), you get to sit in a room which is nice as you look a bit silly with it on. -

Rena and staff have always done a tremendous job since the first time I came across this business several years ago. Among my group of friends, family, colleagues and business acquaintances, I am often the one people come to when any sort of research is needed (I have a knack for these sorts of things that date back to before the existence of Yelp and Google for that matter).
You'd expect to pay a pretty hefty price for the range of professional services they provide here, but compared to other comparable businesses, this is actually the best bang for your buck. They bend over backwards for their clients and do whatever it takes to ensure that the highest level of quality and professional results are attained.
Every person I've know that I've sent through these doors has been a satisfied (and repeat) client here.
