I had a great experience with City Sightseeing (CSS)! I asked the folks at the front desk of my hotel (The Hilton Garden Inn on Peter St.) for a suggestion and they booked my pick up at the hotel to meet up with the tour bus (in this case, it was not the double decker advertised because of the weather, so it was a cute trolley).
The staff member from CSS scooped me up at the hotel and chatted up a storm with me, mostly about what business I was doing Toronto. He was really informative and he wasn't even my tour guide!
He took me to the Dundas Square stop of the tour and waited with me until the trolley arrived to pick me up.
This tour is great because it is a jump on/jump off style. So if you find a place/area you want to hang out for an hour or two (depending on how many tour buses are out- four in the winter and I think it is either 6-8 in warmer months) you can do your more personalized sight seeing or shopping and then hop back on to continue your tour.
We stopped all over the place, museums, monuments, historical buildings. My personal favorite was the Distillery District (where I hopped off for a bit!).
I would recommend CSS to anyone looking to get a great sense of the city!
