The Citadel is a great place to stay, nice hotel with staff, great location.
Nice rooms, Internet with room service.
This place is great for a family or business overnight. Not the posh Ritz, but
nice large rooms and great staff. -

I wanted to stay in downtown Halifax for three nights and the Citadel was one of the cheapest ($135/night).
As I was heading to my room for the first time Friday evening (6ish) after I checked in, I passed by four pillows and a mini fridge outside one of the rooms on my floor. Huh? They were still there when I left for supper about 9pm ... and gone when I got back at 11pm.
When I walked into my room, there was a funky smell (it's a non-smoking room). It smelled like stinky socks. I was tempted to buy a scented candle. I left my window open the three days I was there. There were some weird stains on the carpet.
I passed on having my room cleaned Saturday and hung the "Do Not Disturb" sign on the door. This hotel has a green policy in that if you don't get your room cleaned, they credit you $5/day. I hung the sign on my door yesterday to service my room as I had no clean towels and had run out of toilet paper. I left at noonish. When I got back about 5ish, my room hadn't been serviced. I called the front desk and was told that it would be taken care of right away. An hour later, they brought towels, etc. When I got my bill this morning, there was no "green" credit for yesterday. Considering they neglected to service my room, I called about it and the credit was applied for yesterday.
I had the air on high and cool and it barely made an impact. So I slept with the window opened for the three nights to let cool air in. It's a noisy street with people heading home from bars late at night. Plus there are tour buses parked right under my window that start up early.
Internet is free. You access it via a yellow cable which they give to you when you check in.
Though it is handy to the mall and pubs and cheap, the next time I will spend the extra $$ to stay elsewhere. You get what you pay for. -

Meh. I haven't stayed here so I can't speak to that experience or the rooms, but I've been on course here a few times. The meeting rooms are adequate, but nothing special. The chairs are not at all comfortable. We had coffee, muffins and pastries catered, as well as sweets in the afternoon. Good coffee and eats.
The restaurant is not bad, but we had several mix ups at lunch (not unexpected with a large group I suppose). The food is way too pricey.
No wifi. -

The Citadel hotel is located very close to it's namesake and within walking distance to downtown Halifax. The hotel itself is clean and decent looking.
Check-in was relatively quick and problem free.
My only complaints are the bed (it was kind of shitty) and the fact that my room was next to the elevators. Whenever they would go off, there would be a loud noise all throughout the night. -

Cheap and easy and good. Citadel Hotel is a low maintenance spot to kick it on a stay in Halifax if you're not into the frills. Its actually a very decent spot, with a complimentary breakfast to boot!
The staff here is cool, and the accommodations are comfy. This spot gets lost amongst the other, more inter-provincial, hotels in the downtown area. But Citadel is a great fix-up, and can compete with the best of them. Lower prices, prime location and the service can really equate to a lot.
Its free of the stiff formality that comes with the tourism industry, and thats what I enjoy the most. They aren't the flashiest of flash, but they get the job done.
It'll do! -

This was a very nice hotel, aside from the facade (they were renovating at the time we stayed). The Citadel was very modern and clean. Our room was rather spacious and had a nice bathroom and queen-sized beds. For the two nights we stayed there, I was very happy. We even a piece of chocolate cake delivered by room service one rainy day (as it was our honeymoon, we had to have at least one room service item). It was overpriced, but room service is a luxury not everyone has to have, including us.
This hotel was in a great location, right next to the Citadel historical site, very close to shopping, the Halifax harbor, and museums, and across the street from the Nova Scotia casino. We were able to walk pretty much everywhere and not move our car.
To be honest, I don't really know how much our room cost because our stay was part of a travel package, but I think it was worth it. -

I will be the first to admit that there are a few things that need improvement at Citadel Halifax. That being said, they definitely deserve the five stars thanks to amazing staff. I haven't seen better customer service in any hotel. And I've spent six years traveling around the world!
The hotel itself is very nice looking, well organized and has all the amenities one would want in a hotel. They are also conveniently located downtown. Their pricing isn't as high as other downtown Hotels but also not as cheap as hotels further from the downtown core. You pay what you expect to pay for the accommodations but you do feel like you are getting a deal when it comes to their staff. I honestly have never seen better!
The areas that I would love to see improved upon are:
1. Wireless Internet. They do have Internet for guests but no wireless set up.
2. Pricing on their menu's. The menu's were a bit on the expensive side. But I will say that I did not expect to get so much food on my plate. So the portion sizes are fantastic!
Citadel Halifax has some very old school ways of thinking. The number one is that if they have great customer service, they will attract more customers and have consistent repeating customers. And they are right. I can't wait to go there again!
