Been to 3 Cirque Du Soleils - Kooza (August 2007), Ovo (October 2009) and Totem (August 2011). As far as circuses go, they all had heart-felt and inspiring storylines instead of just stunts. I was left with lingering emotions at the end of Kooza. Quite humorous as well. There is a certain degree of audience participation when the performers come over to the seating areas. And the stunts are awesome. They are anywhere between heart-stopping, thrilling, creative, crazy, intricate, mind-bending and magical.

If you have to go to bathroom in the middle of the show, you cannot get back to your seat until next stunt begins. Parking is $15 or something. But seriously, don't waste your money. In 2007, I told the attendant I'll go get cash from ATM, and he let me park the car first. I didn't go to the ATM. I didn't pay. I didn't get ticketed. Then in 2009, I just parked at T&T. The show finished well after the T&T's closing time, and I didn't get ticketed. Then in 2011, I just parked on the street next to the go-kart track. It didn't get towed.

Attending Cirque Du Soleil has been a wonderful experience each time. It is a show worth attending if you haven't seen one yet!

As both Steph L. & Tony F. have stated, Totem was a great show.  For me, one of the points of focus is the music.

The premise of the show is evolution.  As such, there are actually a lot of tracks that include drumming, and native chants and vocalizations that are so pure and passionate that I bought the soundtrack.   My favourite tracks would have to be Onta, Omé Kayo, Toreador and Qué Viyéra and Indie-Hip.

The most memorable part for me were the Asian girls and the bowls as well as the Russian acrobats.

And as Tony mentioned, the Italian who plays the Native American bride-to-be roller girl is quite fetching, at least compared to the testosterone-overloaded-muscular beach "babe" that was more ripped than Arnold.  Why those roller skating boys at the beach wanted her was beyond me.

This is my second most favourite CdS show after "O" in Vegas.

As a late anniversary gift hubby took me to see Cirque's latest installment of Totem today.

I will not go into details about the show as the previous reviews have done a hella job with kick ass descriptions. Totem was good, but by comparison to the other Cirque shows I've seen (Zumanity and Ovo which I loved!)  Totem was very anti-climactic by comparison.

Although the Cirque shows never feature animals in their acts that won't guarantee you won't get seated near any animals yourself.  We ended up being seated next to two idiot asshats who kept taking numerous iphone pics for every single act even when they were warned NOT TO DO SO by the usher. Ignorant much?  I really hope they weren't Yelpers and no disrespect to other Yelpers but seriously how ghetto are you if you need to take shitty pics with your iphone that will just get tagged as unhelpful anyway and disregard the people around you who payed good $ to watch a show? Not cool man...not cool at all :(
Thankfully I complained to the ushers and got to moved to much better seats with a perfect view.

The concessions as usual were packed with the generic, overpriced snackfoods and drinks.  The pretzel was dry, the beer had too much head and the water is highway robbery as they swindle you into buying a $6 reusaeble water canteen. Eight words; bring your own food/booze and hide it!

Using the facilities at a Cirque show is definitely my idea of torture as you queue in line forever to use the communal trailer style unisex lavatories that stink of urine and somehow remind you of the show OZ
but instead of solitary confinement , your punishment is to actually hear the collective noises of mass bodily evacuations in unison.

By the way to all the folks who overcompensated by dressing like the housewives of New Jersey and especially to the trollups looking like they were ready to pick up some Johns, albeit at a sunday matinee show with plenty of families and children ...It's the fucking circus! not a casino or the fucking opera!

Maybe next time I'll ask hubby to get Cirque tickets when I'm not PMS-ing....

I'm a huge Cirque fan.  From the time I won free tickets to them from a radio station oh so many years ago, thinking I hate circuses to seeing almost all the road shows and a bunch in Vegas, Totem is up there amongst the better ones.

There's no bad seat in the house, and the show was made better because I managed to score a 40% discount to the show.

    PS

I'm in love with the Italian (playing native American) roller girl.

Who doesn't want to go to the circus!
    Totem doesn't disappoint!

It's a creative (and of course, very weird) take on the story of evolution.
I've seen several other Cirque performances and this was by far the most random and oddly pieced together in terms of costumes and theme.

Frogs, monkeys, aboriginals, business men, aliens, the beach, insert a group of Chinese people with bowls, and of course scientists.

But we only care about the amazing performances anyways!

    [Highlights]
    * Crazy muscular super chick on the rings.  Holy crap!
    * The "beach boys", two young men with the most perfect bodies ever sculpted on this earth....and hey, they can do cool tricks too!!!
    * Chinese unicycle girls with bowls on their heads.

    [Other Things]
This show was different than other shows I have seen.

There was a lot more slapstick humour.  A LOT of it.
(maybe it's not my thing because I'm not 10, it seemed to be a bit much... but kids seemed to love it).

There was more dance performance than expected... I think they should stick to circus tricks, but I guess they wanted to do try something different.

The show was long.  It ran past two hours (along with a 30 minute intermission).  I feel that they could have cut some of the meaningless skit bits out and made it shorter.

    Additional Tips:
It's mad busy, a zoo within a circus.

    * If you want to attempt grabbing a cab, you should leave before the cast finishes taking their final bows.

    * There is no way that TTC can accommodate the number of people streaming out of the performance and there's no where to walk.

    * There are $10 dollar parking lots, don't pay $20.
Also, traffic can get super chaotic and annoying.

    * If you don't want to use the port-o-potties, there is a T&T across the street.  (also good if you want snacks that aren't $6 popcorn).  The port-o-potties are probably cleaner.

    * If you are a loud clapper and stomper (you know who you are).  Please stop.  It bothers people in front of you.  There's a special super hot place in hell for loud clappers.

    Anyways, great show!
Go see it if you are a fan of Cirque!

    ...Also I still hate clowns.
It doesn't have anything to do with this review.
But whatever, I hate them!!! (Shaking fist)

I LOVE this show. I saw Totem in August 2011, and it was amazing.  I had won two tickets to go see it from http://divine.ca   It was funny, engaging, terrific coordination, acrobatics, everything. The moving stage was awesome.  The music was beautiful.  I loved this show, and definitely would absolutely go to another in a heart beat.

I had never been to this show before but I had always heard good things. Now, I can truly say that life is complete.
A beautiful show put on every year for a month in different cities.  The production is quite grand and the themes change annually. This particular show was themed "Evolution".

In the start of the show there was a starry creature ( man with a body suite covering his face. Suite was black with glitters all over) emerging from the sky in between random acts portraying some sort of angel that would add something an act was looking for or finishing a particular act with emerging and taking a dancer up. Then a monkey emerges into the first act, depicting start of mankind. Slowly the monkey starts to wear a lab coat, then becomes Darwins sidekick. By the end the monkey 'evolves' by taking off his mask and reveals himself as the starry creature. I did enjoy the full circle.

The main host was a mute Mad Hatter type of personality with the similar outfit and a touch of spanish flair When he would lift his tall hat, light would beam from under it, much like a flashlight. This was quite fun when most lights were turned off.
The body suites were strange with reptile print covering body& face. The characters slithered across the stage to the beat of the band music. Again, good stage use.

There was a mix of everything and a whimsical transition of the monkey to the caveman to the man with briefcase. They even had a Darwin character. The different acts caught you by surprise, especially because some of the individuals were in different acts. One guy did a trapeze act, jump&twirl act on a pole and was an insert into a comedy strip. This makes one appreciate the art so much more. Lots of thriple threats up in hurr.

The stage was used very VERY well. Most of the props were grand and the centre of the stage had some sort of electronic propelling machine that would insert and exert in the most peculiar ways to add to the fantasy-over the top setting.

the romance acts where my fav - and such romance."Playful youth" with 2 dancers on the swing act. Grown adult love masking differences and such with a gorgeous Native girl and her lover. She enters, skating with roller skates on(the type with 4 wheels) to the centre of the stage to a large drum covered with a smooth top. She climbed on it and layed gracefully as if to have fallen asleep. Then the man enters, also with roller skates, skating towards her, wakes her up with a feather. She wakes up and shy's away and eventually with standard primitive-aggressive-macho-now-considered-harrasme nt-manner he wins her over and they danced with each other on that drum, roller skating around it with some daring tricks. This girl was absolutely stunning. Her native costume was very fitting of her beauty. Albeit, she couldve covered up a bit more in the groin area. I, and possibly anyone with excellent vision can confirm she is a real brunette. Just sayin.

The band was right behind a tall set of grass props. You could still see them from certain angles which was cool but never completely. There was a few Spanish musicians &opera singers that came out to sing live. This was a big hit.

Another act was Darwins lab. A big giant glass vestibule testube organ appeared and he went inside and started to juggle balls that changed colours every time they would hit the glass. This was a sight to see.

Following act was a set of Asian girls on unicycles with 4 or 5 silver bowls on their heads. With one leg extended they would flip 1 bowl and somehow it would end up perfectly seated in the bowl on their head. At one point they ended off with one girl in the middle and the rest using the same move and flipping all their bowls on her head... the climax? - as if every flip wasn't enough - was they ended up flipping a tea pot on top of all the bowls. HA! . Imagine putting THAT on your resume.

The middle inserts were comedy strips that were cute.As the show progressed they would use the same characters and as corny and goofy as they were, it added a sort of endearing charm to them. Following times they would reappear the audience would recall them and rejoice at the next type of "uh oh... there he goes again that silly character". The popularity of how fast they became a favourite was impressive. I enjoyed the chuckle in between heart stops and "oh my god"' moments.

The show's sponsored by some big names and they aren't afraid to let ya know:
    ROGERS - a.k.a Robbers
    CGI
    L-eau - One water.
    Infiniti
    Desjardin
    Xerox

I myself am a dreamer so the enchantment of it all made me feel like a little girl all over again. T'was a wonderful feeling. I held my hands in a prayer position with a big grin on my face the entire show. It makes you hold your breathe at every twirl, skate, jump and spin. Such a perf evening.
    Love at first visit.
