I first attended the colossal Circle Craft Christmas Market last year to visit my Uncle's Anvil Island Design metalwork's exhibit and I had to tear myself away for fears of imminent bankruptcy should I stay and satisfy my every whim.  This year, there are 263 Artisans from all over Canada selling everything your heart or your gift-receivers hearts should desire from incredible jewellery, dolls, toys, men's, women' and children's clothing, clay art, glassware and designs, metal sculpture and the like, along with a drool-worthy food section where you will notice everyone seems to flock to and is certainly the busiest of the Market stations.  The Market runs over Remembrance Day weekend, this year from November 11-16, with 6 full days of crafty goodness.  Although to call this a 'craft' market truly doesn't do it justice.  Whether edible or wearable, everything is a work of art.

Tickets are $12 for adults, $8 for seniors, while 12 and unders get in for free.  Your ticket is good for all 6 days, you can come or go as you please so long as you validate your ticket.  The website has printable coupons for $2 off or 2 for 1 during the week.

This is my first year attending this market, as being presented many new looks on things from my partner who I tagged along with. It is always nice to go to these 'fairs' to see things that would be usually missed if you went into the major brand consumer conscious malls. I can say that not everything is for everyone but there is something there that will warm to you that you won't find anywhere else.

There are tons of local, small market, designers, ranging from jewellery, art, clothing, food, etc. ready to answer all your questions about their product and business, and to see some new ideas in things is special, but to also have a market like this going into the Christmas season gives you ideas of presents for people, or just things that you would want yourself, and could purchase at this market yourself is always a good option.

I personally enjoyed looking at the real life dried fruits and vegetables used as art for picture frames and trays. There were too many different items that I could talk about, but as I said, there is something there for you that you will find special.

November is the time for craft fairs and holiday shopping. Even though I have all my holiday shopping done by July, there are a few that I either would like to indulge in for myself or buy a little extra for some loved ones. This year, it was mostly about me. I bought a few things at the Circle Craft fair 2011

Molly and Me at http://www.mollyandme.ca I am a fan of cat hats, in fact I buy one each year. They make the best cat hats ranging from $19 - $49. In addition to that, they make awesome character towels. I am still living and using my pink rabbit one from 2 years ago.

Smell the Soap http://www.smellthesoa... To me a soap vendor, is a soap vendor, it's all the same to me. I make melt and pour soap and don't have the patience for cold press, therefore, I seek craft fairs to get a good cold press soap. What attracted me to this vendor is their awesome array of scents ranging from orange creamsicle to lavender. A good bar costs around $7.

Calgary Fudge Factory http://www.calgaryfudg... You have your usual suspects and then the surprising flavors that you wouldn't normally encounter in fudge such as pumpkin pie, jelly belly, watermelon, grape, key lime pie, lemon pie etc. This is a staple for me to hit up every Circle Craft. It's almost sac religious if I do not come home with at least one brick of home made fudge. Their website doesn't feature all the cool flavors, just the usual popular suspects, therefore, checking out the booth at Circle Craft is a must to ensure that you're in the fudge game. They're only company that makes a sugar alternative fudge made of sucrose for those who are kicking the sugar habit and don't want to subscribe to the chemical sweetener slow death.

Classic Christmas Cake http://www.etsy.com/sh... Jonathan and Diana have become my new holiday best friends. I've never had real Christmas fruit cake, just the generic shit from the grocery store that gets moldy within weeks. What makes these guys my best friend is that they make authentic Christmas cake, soaked in Sherry...traditional recipe and gluten free. Each cake is $10 which is considered a steal. I am not sure how they do it so cheap, however, my hats off to them. Their etsy page has each loaf at $18 and $12 for the gluten free, therefore, if you can make it to the fair it's worth it to buy in person, however, they only accept cash.
Total retail wallet damage = $48

it was my first year going to the christmas market. we went in right when the market opened, and lucky we did, because after the first round of walking and deciding on what to get, the crowd thickened like you wouldn't believe it.

the products sold there are definitely unique. are they worth the money on some things? some people would think so. i found the clothes a bit on the pricer end. but the edibles (the cheeses, the dips, the pinot noir balsamic vinaigrette, the smoked salmon pate, the fudge, the roasted almonds, etc etc etc) were well worth it. i could be saying this because i'm more of a foodie than a fashionista at heart. stocking up for a year's worth of gourmet food at home?? yes ma'am!

Every year hundreds of craft persons get together in one place just before Christmas, what a concept. Some of the booths are selling larger volume products and some are one off items. This is the place to go to get that hard to buy for niece the perfect ........... she will love it.

Specialties

Vancouver's Circle Craft Christmas Market has been a local tradition since 1973. For over 35 years, generations of Vancouverites, British Columbians, as well as tourists from near and far have been enjoying the Market where they come face to face with fine BC and Canadian artisans and their work: wood turners, glass blowers, sculptors and potters, clothing and jewellery designers, toy makers, leather and metal workers, and more. In addition, food vendors, entertainment by local dance groups, craft technique demonstrations, and other crafty activities, round out the experience!

History

Established in 1973

In 1973, Circle Craft Co-operative presented its first Christmas Market in the Vancouver East Cultural Centre, "The Cultch." In recent years, the Market has received its craft-loving guests under the sails of the Vancouver Convention Centre. In 2010 the Circle Craft Christmas Market moved to a new home, the new "West building" of the Vancouver Convention Centre.

Each November the Circle Craft Christmas Market attracts some 40,000 people eager to discover the creations of hundreds of Canadian artisans all of whom are jury-selected based on talent and diversity.
