I went here today for the first time because I absolutely had to see The Muppets on the big screen. Wow - the place is huge! Definitely adequate parking. The seats are comfortable, have lots of leg room, and recline. I loved that there are multiple sets of washrooms conveniently located close to the theatres. Refreshments are expensive, but that's pretty much the story in all movie multiplexes - good variety, though. I wish the place was more accessible by public transit, but I discovered with planning it is not impossible.

Kinda feel the same way about this place as I do about WEM - TOOO MANY PEOPLE!!!  Yes - I must be getting old - I realize it most when I find myself thinking "damn punks" or "kids these days..." (while shaking my head in disapproval).  When I was young this place was soooooo COOL (mostly cuz we were excited we found a ride out of the Park into the 'Big City' - OOOUUUUUU...).  Now the desperate search for parking,  huge lineups, and suffocating crowds just wear me out and then I'm lucky to stay awake through the movie (HAHA I know, right? So now your thinking - OK Amanda - grab your walking stick, head over to city center, and quit complaining - LOL - so true!)

Ok, so if you don't mind the crowds then this place IS pretty awesome.  Huge theaters, pretty comfy seats, and the new AVX theater dealio is pretty neat!  Wide variety of food selections, lots of arcade games, party rooms, and many many theatres so they often have special features and neat kids events going on.  Once a movie has been out for a while this place isn't so bad - I don't recommend coming on opening night though useless you are a true movie die hard or you have some odd passion/obsession for waiting in lines.

    PROS:
-Cinemas are HUUUUUUUGE!!! it's rather unfortunate that the IMAX isn't located here but that said, the AVX and digital rooms are truly a wonder. And the D Box seats in cinema 9 are super cool. Saw Hanna on one of those, and it was complete fun!!!
    -amazingly gigantic parking lot.
-best cinema food in town. The chicken nuggets, the coffee, the Yögen Früz, etc.
-With the AVX, no need to worry about lineups.

    CONS:
    just 2 very small ones.

    -Not very transit accessible
-3D projection should be a bit more adjusted

That's all folks! Best cinema in town!

This is the go-to theatre in my group of friends. The location is super convenient, just fifteen or twenty minutes from most southside neighbourhoods. The screens are also huge and clear, and the theatres are really large. That being said, it's also insanely busy on the weekends, and the seats leave me feeling a little grimy. The staff are also pretty impatient, but it doesn't really affect the experience at all.

Visited South Common theatres for the first time to treat myself to the new Harry Potter flick with some friends. There are some great things about South Common - huge parking lot (since it's not easily accesible by transit), plenty of theatres (so some movies have space to play a few weeks longer), and a lot of food options (although none of it is very good for you - pizza, popcorn, candy, frozen yogurt, and the like).

The theatres here are big, with pretty comfy seats, too. Sat up in the top row for Harry Potter and the seats even leaned back a little bit. Bathrooms get line-ups, of course, but they do have a ton of stalls.

South Common is a very busy theatre, though! Get here early for your favourite midnight show and be prepared to stand in line for a looong time.

People who clearly do not want to work there. There really isn't much that can be done. Raise the working age, maybe. You can see films there!

This is definitely one of the best movie theaters in Edmonton. I am completely in love with their new UltraAVX theater. This theater allows you to pre buy and pre select your seats for an extra fee. The extra fee is completely worth it because it means no more waiting in lines to see blockbuster movies. This is the only way I will see movies on their opening weekend now.

This is my favorite theatre in Edmonton.  I think it's the busiest too.

The reasons I like this theatre so much are because it is huge, they have yogen fruz, and the chairs recline.  What more could you want from a movie experience!?

Granted, it's expensive, but all movies are expensive these days.  Thankfully, Telus Tuesdays are now in full operation at Cineplex Odeon South.  You get a movie admission and  popcorn and a drink for less than the price of one normal admission on any other day!  YAY!  I love a good deal!

As I said, this is a very busy theatre so the lineups can get pretty ridiculous.  If you are going on a weekend, go a bit early or you might miss the first part of your movie or it might even be sold out!

I agree with the previous reviewer. This is perhaps the busiest theatre in Edmonton. The reason why I keep coming back though, and the best feature of this movie theater, were because of the reclining chairs. It really makes a different in your movie watching experience.

Friday is a really popular night, and I found that most of the popular movies were sold out, so we were forced to see another movie. Even though they had a long line up with 2 'S's looping around inside to outside past the front doors, the line up moved fast. The wait was not very long (about 20 minutes) considering the number of people inline, and they had 6 staff members at the ticket office. They would also keep everyone up to date on the availability of the popular or almost sold-out movies through frequent announcements.

The parking lot at this South Edmonton location is is huge, yet it was really hard to find parking. They were giving out tickets for people who were triple parking though, which made sure there were more parking spots for people.

If you can get past the busy line-ups, this is one of the most comfortable cinemas in the city and can be well worth the wait.

This is as good a theater as any in the city. Actually it's one of the better ones. It doesn't have IMAX though.

It is the only theater on the South side so I come here often. My favorite thing about this locaiton is the pizza pizza they have inside. The pizza is so thing and crispy and delicious. Nothing compares to eating one of their pepperoni pizza's while watching a good movie.

This is one of the best cinemas in the city in my opinion.

The line up is usually crazy, and it doesn't seem to matter what time of the day you go -- you will line up for at least a little while. But once you get inside, the theater is usually pretty clean and the staff are pretty nice too.

The chairs are super comfortable! I can't even remember the last time I went to another theater other than this south common Cineplex, but I don't remember the seats being this comfortable.

If you don't mind waiting in line, come to this theater. Keep in mind also, that you can buy tickets online now and that is supposed to help save some time in the line up. Check out http://www.cineplex.com to buy tickets online.

Of the giant theatres in the city this is probably the nicest one (I'm thinking of Silvercity/Scotiabank and the one by 137ave as the others).  I hate everything about South Common though so that knocks one star off automatically.  As with most theatres of this kind food and drinks are really expensive (4 or 5 buck sodas for example).  If you really want to see that next big Hollywood movie in theater then come here.  Who really likes going to big, expensive theatres anymore with ready access to stuff online and big home TVs now?

Cut to the chase: it's a multiscreen megaplex with stadium seating, we've all been in one. No surprises. It is busy and crowded, so the seats are showing some wear and tear and getting a little lumpy but they're not uncomfortable. I do use my phone to light my seat before sitting on it though. Some interesting smells are developing especially in theatres showing kids movies. My two complaints are (1) concession service is as if they're trying to develop the perfect case study in inefficiency and customer indifference, and (2) there are not near enough self service kiosks for a theatre this busy. To all theatres: $5.00 for fountain pop? Seriously?

Sure, it's just another theater in a long list of the same ole places. Not being from Edmonton I was instantly impressed with the tilting seats. Pure viewing comfort, I may have to amend my thoughts of my local theaters. The star killer, however, is more of a question. With 16 theaters dishing out all the blockbusters, why is there only two cashiers and one teenage ticket checker? Inefficient, yup.
