The only movie theater, on the top floor!

The place is easily accessible by transit. Its conveniently located within a mall. There's food available on the floor below. But strictly no food from food court or whatsoever.

They have a really high ceiling with cool-color tone lighting within the theater. There's a concession spot, a video arcade spot, and the entrance spot. Once you get in, the floor is filled with purple colored carpets, with a nice pattern to them. The seating in the movie theater is nicely elevated, so no one can possibly block you unless they intentionally do..  They have a moderate air conditioning system within each room, so its not too warm.

Especially love the 50% on Tuesday nights! Last time I went, the room where we watched the movie was packed with people really quickly.

Would definitely come back more often!

Well, located in a strange mall this cinema is really cool.
It is our preferred cinema in Vancouver and we really enjoy every visit.

The staff is nice, the prizes are fair and we love the decoration and the location on the top floors.

    The seats are very comfortable.

Only thing: There could be some more nachos in the Dog'n Nacho combo. ;-)

International Village is a bit out the way for me, but they often play things that other theaters don't.  Foreign films.  Art house films.  Indies.  It's the (big) place to go if you want to see something other than the big mainstream blockbusters (and they show those too).

It's not as cushy as some of the other places, mainly I think due to it not aging that well, but the service is as good as you can expect, the screens are decent and the sound is decent and maybe it's just me but there seem to be fewer douchebags talking, texting, and generally disrupting my movie going experience.

I am never disappointed by this theatre when I go... but I rarely get to go there. I love movies and I like to see them quite frequently. Even though I live SO CLOSE (Like a 2 minute walk) to this mall, they are never playing the movie I want to see. I always end up walking to Scotiabank on Robson & Burrard. I read in another review that they play mostly Sundance films here... and I think that might be why. Sometimes there is a good movie playing, but a lot of the time they are lesser-known movies.

I wish they were playing more, just because this is the most convenient location for me... but they never do.

Located in what is surely *the* strangest mall in all of the lower mainland, this theatre is the only reason The International Village exists. Home to film festivals, Sundance selections, anime action and a blockbuster or two, it's absolutely one of my favourites in the city.

Big comfy seats? Totally. Expensive? Yes. Salty popcorn? Absolutely, if you can afford it. Conveniently located just above an equally over-priced liquor store? You better believe it.

Good thing I've got my big bag, 'cuz I be a smugglin.

I love having to take an escalator over open air space to arrive at a theater.
Kind of feels like you are entering some mystical place... or maybe that's just me, lol.

Actually even having to enter the theater from this mall is a surreal experience in and of itself. Part peculiar, part eccentric and wholly unconventional this mall serves as a perfect anchor for these Cinemas.

Comfy seats, good vantage points from every angle. Cineplex Odeon at IV works.

The Descendants oddly enough kind of does and doesn't. It's true to it's purpose and is a good story, but it lacks..... something. It's a little bit unsatisfying... like not having picked up popcorn and m&m's during this movie...

Yes, we imagine, international espionage is probably pretty much like this. No thrilling car chases and no big action scenes, but rather a series of weary men, smoking and drinking tea or whiskey, in a series of conversations that circle an enigma. "Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy" is about the search for a high-level Soviet spy within MI6, the British intelligence service. This mole is not to be found in an exotic location, but seems more than likely to be one of the men in the room.

The movie is based on John Le Carre's 1974 novel, which redefined modern spy fiction and inspired an ambitious 1979 BBC adaptation. There was reason to believe Le Carre knew his subject. In the real world, where his real name is David Cornwall, he was one of the British spies who was betrayed by Kim Philby, the notorious MI6 operative who was a double agent for the Soviets. In the fictional version, MI6 is headed by Control (John Hurt), who studies a series of intelligence leaks and becomes convinced there's a mole in the agency; the nature of the intelligence suggests it must come from high up, and Control narrows his list of suspects to five men close to him.

The movie introduces them one by one, each played by a familiar face in a film cast with iconic British actors. "Tinker" is Percy Alleline (Toby Jones), "Tailor" is Bill Haydon (Colin Firth), "Soldier" is Roy Bland (Ciaran Hinds), "Poor Man" is Toby Esterhase (David Dencik) and "Beggarman" is George Smiley (Gary Oldman), Control's trusted lieutenant. If you're wondering what happened to "Spy," that would be whoever turns out to be the mole.

The film, set mostly in London in the early 1970s, is bathed in browns, shadows and pale lighting. All of the men show a lot of wear, none more than Control; John Hurt's face is weary and deeply lined, his eyes set deep out of the way of cigarette smoke, but lest you think that is entirely because of aging, I interviewed him in 1984 while he was filming "1984," and he looked much the same then.

As the film opens, he has learned that a Hungarian general who would know the mole's identity may be a possible defector. In a muted, serious conversation that will set the film's tone, he assigns Jim Prideaux (Mark Strong) to go to Budapest and talk to this man. That mission goes wrong and serves to alert the Soviets -- although the mole would already know Control was engaged in sniffing him out. In the kerfuffle that follows, both Control and Smiley are dismissed from the service. Some time later, Control is dead from a heart attack, and Smiley is recalled from "retirement" to continue the search for the mole.

Now follows a series of paranoid meetings in sealed rooms, snatched conversations in obscure corners of London and flashbacks that may cast light on Smiley's investigation, although we cannot yet know for sure. All of this is superbly atmospheric in the hands of director Tomas Alfredson, who made the sober and effective vampire movie "Let the Right One In." His camera is implacable, its moves sinister, the rooms are filled with smoke and fear, and the characters warily circle around -- well, each other, really.

"Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy" looks, sounds and feels exactly right. Alfredson's film is faithful to the tone set by the novel. But the screenplay, by Bridget O'Connor and Peter Straughan, is not a model of clarity. I confess I was confused some of the time and lost at other times; the viewer needs to hold in mind a large number of characters, a larger number of events and an infinite number of possibilities.

More ordinary spy movies provide helpful scenes in which characters brief each other as a device to keep the audience oriented. I have every confidence that in this film, every piece of information is there and flawlessly meshes, but I can't say so for sure, perhaps because I don't have a mind suitable for espionage. I enjoyed the film's look and feel, the perfectly modulated performances, and the whole tawdry world of spy and counterspy, which must be among the world's most dispiriting occupations. But I became increasingly aware that I didn't always follow all the allusions and connections. On that level, "Tinker Tailor" didn't work for me.

Took in today's live HD Broadcast of the LA Philharmonic Symphony at the International Village Cinemas. The Ticket Lineup was short, Auditorium 7 which showed the broadcast had about 250 seats. I went early so I was able to pick one of my favourite seats that has lots of legroom.

The Sound System was very good and their HD projector is better then my Sony/Shaw home set up. I'm really glad to see Cineplex Odeon is presenting more of these Live Cultural events.

The Food the Snack is standard overpriced fair in fact today the show was really long and I got hungry and I honestly felt a Hot Dog was the healthy choice on the menu.
    *See Safety Note

I agree with others this place is easy to get to by Transit. It also has bicycle racks out font but its a fairly high crime area so I bring two good bike locks to secure your bicycle to the racks.

*Safety concern Years ago I was at the Cinema to see Motorcycle Diaries and the fire alarm went off during the show and the management emptied the auditoriums. When I went to my car to leave the building with the Fire Alarms Blaring the Parking attendant refused to let our and other cars leave the building due to a ticket validation problem this could have been a life threading situation.

Due to that incident and the poor food choices this place gets four stars instead of 5

I hadn't been to a movie at this theatre in a long time, and I had forgotten how great it is.  While the concession prices are still the same Cineplex rip offs, the ticket prices are reasonable and the seating is awesome.  As others have mentioned, they bring more limited release films here than most of the other theatres.  And since the mall doesn't cater to the Forever 21 generation, there aren't a ton of annoying teenagers being obnoxious and ruining my movie experience (damn you kids, get off my lawn!).

Big, plush seats + good movies + reasonable ticket prices = I'm a fan!

Still one of the more comfy chairs to watch a movie in...   however... we happened to sit in some seats just tacked into the middle of an aisle at the top of the balcony level (I'm looking at you theatre 9)... and well, they just weren't very properly secured... when I leaned forward to pick something up off the floor, I just about launched the fiance down the stairs...  nice safety.
Still...  a lot more comfy than the others.  ;)

Still one of my favourite movie cinema's. For me, it's convenient, free parking and close to everything I need or want.  The shopping mall is getting better, there's TNT nearby and it's basically right at the edge of downtown.  The whole neighbourhood is getting developed compared to how it was over 10 years ago.

I've been here for the Asian Film festival, movie previews, romantic comedies and independant films.

My last visit here is probably the most memorable and heartfelt of them all.  What a movie!

As everyone can attest, they have the best seats ever for a theatre.

    Love!

This place is untouched...  love the lineup, has weekday matinee's so that I can go right after work for a reduced rate... especially Tuesday for 7.50!!

There isn't much for food in the mall, but Pivo is just down the street, and T&T grocery.

It's my fav b/c it's not super busy.. its clean, they have 3D and it's cheap.

Thank-you cineplex, for copping this place.  I come twice a week here!

Comfy seats....huge theatre...and the movies were free with my SCENE membership. Not that I'm trying to sell them...but getting free movies is better than the .000000001% cash back considering movies are so expensive. And, if you're interested, just follow the crowd into the next movie...back to backs are always a nice way to go! Couple of movies that I wish they played, but there are plenty of other smaller theatres in the city to see them. Thumbs up for this place, and it's super close to the skytrain.

Welcome, to my favourite cinema in Vancouver. It's not as packed as the Scotia Theatre or any of the Tinseltown cinemas, shows a variety of films which are often not your typical Hollywood drivel, and has more than 2 or 3 screens, all of which are sizeable, have comfy seats and good sound. There is validated parking underneath. It's centrally located. So I say again, "Welcome, to my favourite cinema in Vancouver"

During your surreal trip up the floating escalator in the International Village mall, you pass the food court full of quick ethnic eats, the strange fish and fruit in the floor, and a stage that's always empty. In short, you'll be treated to sights of the mall in it's near entirety.

And it only takes about 30 seconds to find yourself at the top! Just enough time to go back down and view the mall in all it's surreal glory again. The escalator boasts at least 45 stairs the progress automatically with an exposed mechanism behind glass viewable only from the opposite escalator bridge.

And then there's the theatre at the top of the escalator, too! A whole other "secret" floor of this gigantic mall that specializes in Sundance films, second run classics and a few crappy blockbusters. The matinee prices are reasonable, the seats pretty comfy, and the two food courts a bit ridiculous. If you just can't seem to find a theatre playing THAT film, check this one out. If it's a pretty common one, there's a slim chance they'll have it.

In summary, it's the same movie programs as all the other small second run theatres, but without the charm.. aside from that really weird escalator ride.

I can't believe I've never been here before!  (My movie tastes are pretty mainstream so I'm usually at a Silvercity location)... the other reviews sum it up well.

So why would I come back?

    - Free parking while you watch a movie for up to 3 hours - how awesome is that in downtown?
    - Less busy theatre
    - Nice reclining seats and spacing... I prefer the SilverCity style of seating, but this is quite nice

I was in shock. Never before in my life have I been asked that question upon ordering a large popcorn. I came here to watch a matinee. There was little people in the mall, you could say there were more people in my theater then in the rest of the mall.
    Key Points:
Food- the popcorn SUCKED. Seriously. Worst popcorn ever. Limited soda choices.
    Cleanliness: Okay, could be better.
    Staff: Okay, nothing special.

I was approached by a man on my lunch break as I was lounging in the sun who offered me free movie tickets. How could I say no? I ended up with four tickets to "The Other Guys" which = girls night out! I rallied the troops and we all met up at Tinseltown 15 minutes before the show started, but when I got up to the ticket booth the cashier said the movie was sold out. However, he said that we could pick any other movie and see that instead, so after consulting with the ladies we decided to see Toy Story 3, which was in 3D, double score! I would have rather seen Toy Story anyways! (And Toy Story 3 was actually pretty funny, so I am glad everything worked out this way.)

I grabbed a large popcorn (for dinner) and pop to share with my girls, and we got nestled into our soft reclining seats just as the lights started to dim. Sure the popcorn and drink were over $10, and between two of us, we still couldn't finish it, but isn't it that expensive at every theatre? I love that no matter how tall my hair is at this theatre, the person behind me can still see over it, and no matter how squirmy I get, the seats will move with me.

Movie night with the ladies was a great success, free movie, lots of popcorn and our parking was even validating before we left! Goodbye Silvershitty! Hellooooo Tinseltown!

Located in "The Mall of Tomorrow, Today", Tinseltown is a strange spot. As a theater, it's great. Up on the third floor of a shopping mall that never caught on, it continues to be one of the only viable options in the place.

It's got a great mix of indie-house flicks and Hollywood blockbusters. ticket prices are standard, and it's not usually THAT busy -- certainly smaller crowds than the paramount future-plex on burrard.

You get to choose from about 10-12 pictures on a given day, and you can get bonus street cred from seeing one that none of your friends have heard of (but will pretend to have "read about" and really hope to see...or at least download)

I love Tinseltown because they have comfy seats and lots of leg room. There is also the option of lifting up the arm.

If the line is too long, you can purchase your tickets at one of the 2 kiosks at the base of the escalator on the food court level.

7-11 is on the first floor so you can stock up on affordable snacks. Please just remember to throw out the garbage. I wouldn't want the staff to have to do mandatory searches.

And if you happen to have females in your party, remind them to bring a big bag....big enough for bubble tea from the food court.

At another theatre, I was able to sneak in 5 hot dogs in my LV Speedy 25.

Remember to validate your parking ticket. You get 3 hours free!

I agree with many of the points previous Yelp reviews have brought up about this theatre both good and bad. The reason Tinseltown gets five stars from me is because they sponsor the Vancouver Asian Film Festival.

I was able to watch the closing film of this year's festival called "One Big Hapa Family." It was directed by Jeff Chiba Stearns, a local whiz kid from Kelowna.  Not only did he write, direct, edit and conduct all the interviews for this documentary, he also animated one of the many animated segments in the film.

    Great movie. Great theater.

Nothing beats reclining comfy seats while watching a movie. I like this theatre because it shows independent movies, as well as the mainstream ones. Sometimes, when the mainstream ones stop playing at the Cineplex theatres, they still play it.

There's free validated parking for 3 hours in their underground parkade, so there's no hassel in looking for parking or having to pay for parking. There's also a food court and a couple of restaurants in Tinseltown to grab a bite before the movie. We usually grab a fresh berry slush at this bubbletea stall in the food court beforehand. They use fresh berries and it's absolutely delicious!

There's usually no need to prepurchase tickets, as this place is never too busy. Ticket prices are around $10. I've seen many movies here, and have had a enjoyable experience in the nice wide aisles in my comfortable seat everytime!

One of the best theatres in Vancouver!  It's unfortunate that the International Village mall isn't very popular.

    Things I love about Tinseltown:
    *huge comfy seats
    *$8.75 for everyone on Tuesday
    *about $10 on other days
*often have hard-to-find international flicks playing
*free underground parking if you get your parking ticket validated

Things I don't love so much:
-outside area can be creepy (but you don't NEED to go outside if you have a car
-concession is pretty expensive (7-11 downstairs?)

Pros totally outweigh the cons so this place is still friggin' awesome!

Is it weird that I think it's weird that they didn't play commercials or music before the show? Maybe I just haven't been to a movie in a long time and this is the new rage - silence.

I know - who wants advertisements right? But the theatre felt awfully quiet compared to the roar of people's conversations around me - of which I heard many. Could it kill them to put a radio station on? Or have some paid Mazda Zoom-Zoom commercials playing before the main previews?

Is it also weird that I think it's weird that you have to line up cattle call style to get into the movie? For every movie? Not just for new releases? Again, I haven't been to a movie in awhile - so this could be all the rage too - mooooove outta my way :p

Aside from that - I heart Tinseltown. The comfy seats, not having to get up when someone needs to squeeze by, the popcorn - with REAL butter. All of it makes me happy. But the coolest part was having a grown up drink (snuck in by me) to complement my popcorn - yum!

Theaters are a bit small.  So if you are going for a new release, get there early so that you can get a spot.  Get your seats first and THEN go to the concession stand.

The staff was so nice.  It was great.  They weren't like the young and awkward staff members we are used to seeing in the USA.

Don't half step.  This is really your only option in downtown Vancouver.

They have a variety of good films playing...a few Hollywood and a couple of Indies are usually running as well..the Gay film festival always has alot of films playing here...the theaters are not too big and the sound is awesome...

If you get there early you can play in the arcade that is just inside the theater..not that I ever have but I guess it's an option...

Sneak in food!!! It's your democratic right to not have to pay four dollars for a fucking ice cream, especially one you get at 7/11 for a buck fifty. Seriously I know Tinseltown isn't alone in severly over charging for food but with a well stocked food court on the way upto the cinema you'd have to be nucking futs not to take advantage of the significantly cheaper food.

If you want to save more money go on a Tuesday, it is a lot cheaper and really good value. The cinema itself is nice, I like the potraits of the stars on the wall and the seats are comfy, real comfy, don't go hung over or you'll fall asleep and your girlfriend will be embarressed when you start snoring, happened to a buddy of mine.

The movies are a good selection, they don't play all the big movies, they do get some of the Hollywood big films as well as a few gems that aren't as well known ie documentaries etc. I like the cinema here, it's a nice, average place to go watch a movie just don't eat the over priced crap there.

I like this theatre a great deal. I'm not as frequent a movie-goer as I used to be, largely because I got sick of having to tell people to shut up while the show is playing. It's standard movie theatre etiquette, seriously, knowing not to talk or fuck around with your phone during the film is what separates us from the animals. That said when I do venture out I generally try to make it to this particular cinema if I can. Located in the not quite as abandoned as it used to be, but still pretty empty Tinseltown Mall, it has all the amenities of a nice up to date theatre without the enormous crowd of savages you find at say, the Scotiabank Multiplex. The theatres themselves are on the smaller side which means getting there early if you want good seats, but the layout is such that aside from the front row, there aren't too many bad vantage points. Speaking of the seats, they're the kind that let you slouch and squirm a bunch, which I enjoy due to my restless nature.  Oh, and if you're the kind of person like me who likes sneaking food and liquor into the movies (c'mon, don't act all innocent, we've all done it) there is both a 7-11 and a cold beer and wine store in the mall, and the staff at Cinemark seem unusually oblivious when it comes to spotting suspicious shopping bags full of illicit outside goods. And hey, proximity to the skytrain and parking validation are both excellent bonuses making the trip to the movies considerably less frustrating than it can be elsewhere. Cinemark  Tinseltown is about as good as it gets, giving back some of the fun that has been systematically sucked out of going to the movies.

Oh, and also, a message to my fellow movie goers: We are all aware that theatre prices for popcorn and soda are ludicrous. It has been this way for literally DECADES. Please, for the love of god, we don't need to hear it restated for the billionth time as you pay for your purchases at the snack counter. If it really bothers you, sneak some food in. Thanks for your consideration.

I am sure part of it has to do with the location which is not always the most inviting, especially for a late night film when you need to take public transit home afterwards. It's also the odd seating arrangement within the theatres with its extra set of stairs to the upper tier of the seats. I have also had more trouble with other audience members at TInseltown than any other local theatre.

So while I am willing to come to Tinseltown when it is the only place in town showing a film I want to see, it is not usually where I wish a movie would be shown.

This rather comfy theater is dragged down only by the $12 weekend ticket price. I'm still not accustomed to paying more than $10 for a movie, especially because I tend to frequent second-run spots where I often watch films for the $5 special. Sigh.

The online reservation system is neat: you can purchase tickets for a show in advance. True, you do then have to arrive early to get a good seat. But for the big box office flicks this spot often plays (with a nice mix of obscure) this can be a savior.

Yet another plus is the stadium seating. It's all almost so comfortable you could fall asleep!

From a Will Smith action flick to Bollywood -- you can find it all at Tinseltown. Often the "new releases" play a bit longer here, so if you missed a movie and you want to see it on the big screen, you might want to see if it's still playing here.

Sometimes it's worth it to check out what's playing in advance and do a little research on the movie. If the latest blockbuster that you've heard about in the press is sold out, you might not recognize any of the other movies playing here. There are some real gems, but International and indie, but for those who aren't up on the movie scene you might end up wasting two hours you'll never get back.

The seating at this theatre is very comfortable. You don't have a lot of choice as far as the concession goes. It's pretty standard offerings.

    Great seating, validated parking.

I love these theatres. The seating is comfortable with plenty of leg room, staff are friendly, great popcorn with real butter (if you want).

I've been to a lot of movies here, and always have a great experience.

By far, the best theater downtown for new releases. Seats recline, is rarely crowded, free parking and a decent selection of big budget and indie films. There's nothing worse than driving to Scotiabank theatre, paying $7 to park there and finding out the movie you went there to see is sold out. I've never experienced anything like this at the Tinseltown theatre which is why I always look to see what's playing here first.

Though I'm not reviewing the mall here, the mall in which it is located is a pretty sad excuse for a mall, half empty of tenants and has really obscure shops and art galleries abound. The food court and all you can eat sushi/chinese restaurant on the 2nd floor though makes for a decent quick pre-movie bite to eat.

I love Tinseltown! Cheap Tuesdays = yes please!!! The staff is always super nice and with the ticket machines at the base of the escalators, I've never had to wait in a line!
The chairs are super cushy but definitely beware when you first sit down as I frequently get sandwiched thanks to them being so bouncy. Key seats are the first row to the upper section. Metal bars = nice foot rests without being 'that guy' with their feet on your seat.
They frequently have the best movie selection in town (keeping movies for longer and having less popular ones), with tons to choose from. The mall itself is easily accessible and if you need to kill time before a show, check out the little dollar shop on the first level. Odd finds galore!

Hello? The only theatre I've ever been to that has reclining seats!! Yeah that's right, reclining seats.  Nuff said. Ever sat in seats where you're sitting for so long and your knees start to hurt? Yeah, tall people. I am talking to you. Well look no further cause Tinseltown is there to help!

No, but seriously though, it's extremely comfortable and plays Hollywood and "Not So Famous" flicks, which with both, you will have a pretty good selection.

OBVIOUSLY, concession is overpriced, as to all other theatres in the world. BUT it is still significantly cheaper than ScotiaBank Theatre, no parking fees and cheaper admission.

5 stars all the way. Shh say no more, you got me at "reclining seats"

This is hands down my favorite movie theatre in Vancouver. Where else can you get free parking to watch a movie?  Big seats that you can lean back in comfortably. Room to pass if the the theatre is busy. Deals for early shows or Tuesdays. The selection of movies are better then most, with some hollywood stuff and a bunch of indie, and often foreign movies you can see anywhere else.
Yeah Tinseltown is a weird place, with always a study on the human experience. The place feels dead a lot of the time, but it after however many years it's been open it's still a conversation topic.
If you have time i always pop into the Ayden Gallery if it's open, and grab a bubble tea too.

I've loved this theatre ever since it opened.  The validated parking  is such a bonus!  The comfy seats and smaller theatres mean good viewing for everyone.  If you take kids for a birthday party there's the arcade for added entertainment while you're waiting for everyone else to show up.  The behemoth popcorn and pops aren't my thing but at least they offer real butter.  The washrooms have always been clean when I was there and I appreciate not having to listen to cheesy music or watch annoying commercials first.
