The Vegetable Lasagna is better than Mom's and you don't have spend an hour making it and cleaning up. Great Portion and had some for lunch the following day.
Nice outside patio when the weather hits 60. -

If this were in any other town, it'd get a solid 4 stars. But given that it is in Cedar Rapids, IA, where a large portion of the area surrounding this is chain stores and crap fast food--it's getting a 5.
I went last night with my significant other and both of us had a very pleasant dining experience. He made a rapport with the bartender before (he's lived here for a year, I just moved) and it was fun. The interior is gorgeous; a little dark, but upscale and classy.
I'm impressed by this place because it has a chef. As I've said, the area surrounding this is filled with fast food and other crappy chain restaurants, so I knew they'd at least be TRYING to bring something to the table with that.
And they did! The BLT pizza was fantastic, as was the Pomodoro. It reminds me a bit of Ian's Pizza in Madison, which is also known for its interesting pizza flavors rather than traditional. Except, I really liked what they did here. A lot.
And the drinks were good too. I had one of the best amaretto sours and a pretty tasty margarita. Both are trite and true, but after having some bad ones, I realized there's a fair bit of work that goes into making a decent drink and these guys did a great job.
For dessert, we had the tiramisu which was just like what I had in Italy. Scrumptious.
I'm excited there's a place like this so close and it makes living here just a little bit better. Even though it's a little expensive, I cannot wait to go back! -

Enjoyed the meal. The atmosphere is very nice. A nice change for the CR area. Great services as well. I'll be back.

Went to Cibo's for lunch, and found the menu to be very appetizing, and the food itself to very good! A good selection of items with a great ambiance that is different to other places you would find in Cedar Rapids. Definitely going for the image of an upscale lounge that has a good selection of tasty food! Would love to go back for dinner and drinks some time!

Great food! I have yet to have a bad meal here! The Southwestern egg rolls are fantastic, and so is the Pesto Shrimp!
Great ambiance to have a date or relax after a long day! -

Great food, drinks and ambiance.
To be able to really appreciate this place one should better try at least the calamari or the sesame wings which were the best ever. The chicken marsala could not be more tender and the ribeye rivals the best midwest Wichita like establishment. Sides are overly delicious as well as the salads.
The lounge, the bar and even the restrooms contribute to an unique ambiance more typical for a east/west coast urban area. 5 out of 5, no reserve after trying many similar places in southern Ca. -

I wavered between 3 and 5 stars because Cibo is a solid 3.5. But I'll round up due to the fact it's definitely a level above standard Cedar Rapids fare.
Drinks were good and the spinach artichoke dip was excellent -loved the little kick from the jalapenos. I ordered the Chicken Marsala and was less impressed. It's not that it was bad, it was just that it was not as flavorful as I am used to in CA or Chicago.
We ordered the fondue for desert and again, it wasn't bad, it was just kind of ehh...unlike traditional fondue where the chocolate is in a pot over the flame, this is served with the chocolate on the side. I ended up just making smores.
I am looking forward to exploring their menu more. -

Last visit: 9/14/2009, dinner for two.
Cibo's had just updated their menu when we had last gone. Previously, I had come here to eat lunch and dinner a few times, usually getting one of the personal pizzas or sandwiches. To add to what the first reviewer had posted back in 2007, this place is still relatively "undiscovered," in that traffic always seems a little light for what I consider to be a very good restaurant in the area. The ambiance is fantastic (modern design, relatively romantic for dinner) and their drink menu is vast.
We had the following during our last visit:
- Vegetable lentil soup and chicken noodle soup: Good
- Truffled mac & cheese: Good
- Wild mushroom papparadelle: Good
- Sausage rigatoni: Just okay
- Steak fries (comes with aioli): Good
My girlfriend and I consider their mint mojito to be among the best; she feels it is second only to Pod in Philadelphia's sake mojito (which I would call very close).
Biggest downside is that Cibo can feel a little pricey. -

Loved the atmosphere of Cibo. The outside doesn't come close to representing how trendy the decor is on the inside. The decor is dark and cool with metal sculptures and a water installation dividing the dining room. There is a separate lounge area that was sectioned off, but I imagined a very Mad Men-esque cocktail scene going on over there. Our server was pleasant, attentive but not overly so. We ordered a couple of flatbread style pizzas to try; the Carne Asada and Jamaican Jerk. Surprisingly the Carne Asada pizza was bland, even though there were lots of different ingredients on it. I pigged out on the Jamaican Jerk pizza, but the BF wasn't too keen on it. He later confessed that it's because he has tried several "jerks" and just isn't into the flavors. So, if you LIKE jerk, this is a good pizza :)
I think if they spiced up their outdoor seating area with some large flower planters and updated patio furniture, it would really look as gorgeous from the outside as it is on the inside. We would come back for a nice meal sometime, the menu had tons of options! Glad we finally stopped in. -

Pronounced CHEE-bo, which means food in Italian. This relatively new restaurant still hasn't been "found" by most Cedar Rapidians as traffic seems a little light even on the Saturday night we visited. The atmosphere is somewhat cosmopolitan with jazzy music playing, cool, bent-stem martini glasses and an upscale looking menu. There's mostly gourmet pizza on the menu but you can also find pasta and steak. The pizzas are 12" individual size (but there's plenty to share) with a thin and crispy crust. The range from $8 to $13. There are 5 different sauces and a huge variety of toppings, ranging from traditional to gourmet items.
The steaks and lamb will set you back more than $30. The pasta is more moderately priced. The service was about average and the pizza was pretty decent. Worth coming back for another visit to try other items. I did like the banquet room with murals of Chicago's skyline on the walls. Outdoor seating faces the busy street. Even so, it was pretty nice. -

Was very happy to have lunch at Cibo during my first visit to Cedar Rapids. There were several vegetarian options. I chose the portabello mushroom sandwich, and it was excellent. The Cibo fries also were delicious. I will definitely return on my next visit.

I've been to Cibo a couple times and had my third visit this weekend. I was very pleased. I arrived to only one other occupied table, so I was expecting the service to be quick. Boy was I right. I was seated immediately. My waitress was very nice. After asking for Cherry Pepsi and being told they didn't have it, she offered to make it for me. Now I do realize this is not unusual, but it did make me kind of warm and fuzzy inside. It was delicious. I decided on the Cibo Melt with the soup of the day - salmon curry. I've never had salmon curry soup in my life, but I'm pretty sure this is what it's supposed to taste like. It was cream based with just a hint of curry and big pieces of salmon meat. I was in heaven. Next came my Cibo Melt - bacon, turkey, ham, mozzarella cheese, and alfredo sauce on toasted Italian bread. Who in the world wouldn't love that?! It was amazing. I could barely finish all of it. Needless to say, I was very satisfied with the food.
The wait staff was pleasant and not overwhelming. I was asked once while eating my soup and once while eating my sandwich how everything tasted. My waitress automatically brought me a second Cherry Pepsi when mine was gone, which was just as delicious as the first.
I love the atmosphere of this place. The décor is great, they have a water wall (I'm not sure what else to call it - it's two panes of glass with water streaming down in between the two, it looks awesome). The also have a separate area with big comfy chairs and a fireplace. The bathroom has the coolest sinks I had ever seen. There are big tall faucets with orange glass bowls for the sink. Totally loved them.
My only complaints were that the parking lot could definitely use some repair. And when I went into the bathroom, there were a few used paper towels on the sink. Other than that, I would definitely recommend Cibo to anyone and everyone.Listed in: A Great Friday

Recently my son in law passed away and we chose Cibo for a luncheon after grave side services. Over 80 attended and Cibo handled the larger than expected crowd very well. Needless to say the food was wonderful but the comments were even quite interesting. Many had never been to Cibo and not sure what the food was like or if they would enjoy something they had not tried before. Nearly all said it was very tasty and quite a few said they would definitely come back. We are taking friends to Cibo tonight!

Great atmosphere, food and service. Get the mint mojito and spring rolls to start out with! Their soups change often but I sampled the vegetable lentil and chicken and rice soups and both were great! I had the wild mushroom papparadelle, truffled mac and cheese, and a side of cibo's fries! Definitely leftovers the next day but I had a really great experience!

I have always wanted to try this restaurant but have not had a chance to until yesterday. Every time I come by the place the lot is ALWAYS full. I stopped in for lunch we walked in and was pleasantly greeted and seated right away. We started with sesame Thai chili wings which were pretty good had a cup of the seafood chowder soup which was rich and flavorful I then went with the club and my girlfriend had the steak sandwich which to our surprise was and actual steak in the sandwich not just strips of steak and was so tender it was able to be cut with a butter knife!! Very Very good for lunch. We will have to come back and sample some of their dinner offerings.

I really love the atmosphere at Cibo. The wall of water, fireplace and salt water fish tank are all very nice touches. There is a classy, well-stocked bar and a a cozy lounge area. The food is very good - amazing gourmet pizzas, however the menu is not always clearly marked as to what things contain cheese (I don't eat dairy and was surprised to find their spring rolls contained cheese). They may have changed this by now, since I had to send it back. However, they completely made up for that mishap when I visited on my birthday. You get a free sundae, and alas, ice cream contains dairy - but they brought me out a beautifully arranged bowl of fruit with a candle in it, which was perfect! Additionally, they used to have a dress code on weekend evenings, which had great potential for making it a classy alternative to downtown bars...but it fell apart for me when they brought in a crappy DJ. Remixed hip hop music doesn't really fit in with the style of the place. Live jazz or mellow blues would have been perfect.

This was my second visit to Cibo, the first time I was there was just after it opened several years ago. The atmosphere is nice and I didn't mind the prices, but the food was mediocre and the service poor. The spinach artichoke appetizer was mostly white sauce and very bland. The pasta carbonara I had was also a bit on the bland side, not much character. I had mine with grilled chicken in it, but the chicken was diced up in very small chunks, obviously taken from the bin of precooked chicken used for pizza toppings :(.
My biggest complaint was the service. While our waitress may have just been trying to be "efficient", we were rushed. Only half finished with out appetizer when she brought our salads, and had barely started the salad when she plopped down the entrees. Didn't care that we weren't ready for them, or offer to hold them in the kitchen to keep them warm, she just shoved things around on the table to make room for them and left. Not what I expect at a place trying to sell itself as a bit "upscale" compared to others in the area. I might understand if they were busy, but it was almost 8:00 and they weren't. -

Two Mondays ago, my wife and I stopped in for the half price pizza on Monday and caught the end of 2 for 1 happy hour. The pizza (Thai Chicken and Margherita) was delicious, and the martinis were, as well. Oh yes, and the Banana Berry Creme Brulee was fabulous! Great prices, which they need to publish on their electronic menu.
