I thought about giving it a 4/5 but I gave it a 5 given that this arcade is definitely the best one in western Canada.
$1 CDN = 4 tokens
2 tokens is the absolute minimum purchase and the token machine near the front accepts quarters.

Tekken 6: Bloodline Rebellion (1 HD cabinet and 1 New Versus City cabinet; up to 4 players) Cost: 3 tokens for the HD cabinet and 2 tokens for the New Versus City cabinet

Virtua Tennis 4 (up to 2 players on 1 cabinet)

There are quite a few purikura (Japanese sticker photo) machines in this arcade.

I haven't seen an arcade this packed in 10 years - I don't even know if things like this still exist in the United States. All the newest games, people rocking out to simulators of everything from dancing to drumming to fighting - all the blinking lights and familiar sounds of my childhood. Awesome.

I LOVE this place!
I make it a point to visit here at least once every time I'm in BC, as we no longer have any arcades in Calgary, and even if you can find the odd game machine at the theatre, they rarely stock the latest games.
Here at CHQ, you can find some of the latest arcade cabinets, many of them I assume are imported, as not many arcade cabinet distributors are left in North America. Everything from the latest Street Fighter games, Gundam fighting games, Dance Dance and other rhythm games, and a whole lot more.
Games are about $1 per play, with the latest and marquee games taking loonies, and the older games or games where you can play for tickets and redeem them for prizes taking tokens.
It's a little expensive, although I remember in my University days spending up to $2 per play, and it's not like you have any choice in the matter these days.
Anyways, I usually end up leaving this place with extra tokens (either because I buy too much, or I'm so good that I don't require many tries), but I always pack them up for my trip back home to Calgary and bring them again whenever I return to visit to use again.
If you grew up as an arcade brat, or just want to experience one of the few arcades left these days, make it a point to visit CHQ in Metrotown.

Vancouver, BC
From some random website I found, "It's the most popular arcade in Metro Vancouver, filled with mostly rhythm and fighting games. It's updated frequently and has lots of things you can't really find elsewhere without going across the continent."
That's a pretty good description of the place and, as far as I am concerned, they're absolutely right. There are tonnes of people here and whenever I drop by, there's new games aplenty. Just last week or so I found a really cool 4 player multiplayer Pac Man game which I thought was pretty neat. There's some regular staff who just walk around and don't really do anything - every now and then when a game eats your tokens (They're 4 for a dollar I think) they can help you out.
The most popular games here include Mario Kart (it's an Arcade edition with some wonky steering), the music games (DDR, Taiko and some other Asian ones) and the main attraction, Street Fighter 4. They've got quite a few machines, but only 2 I believe run the latest Arcade Edition. However, do not come to this place on Fridays in the afternoon since the SF4 machines are all packed and the arcade smells really sweaty. Also, every Friday there is this one guy who looks like he just got off work (he's usually wearing a dress shirt and dress pants) who just sits on one of the machines for hours and kicks everybody's ass. One thing I don't like about some of the machines is that they're kind of dirty and all the buttons don't work.
If you're in Metrotown and have some time, definitely drop by. It's not the Playdium that once ruled the topmost floor of Metrotown, but it's better than nothing. -

One of Vancouver's arcades that keeps the latest machines in stock, including music games that aren't able to be found in the USA.
+ Good variety of games (Jubeat, Taiko, SFIV, Initial D)
+ Machines are in good working condition
+ (TIP) Even though the mall closes around 9pm, the arcade stays open till at least midnight on Friday/Saturday.
~ Staff aren't very friendly, but not intrusive either.
- HOT. The place is small, and I was feeling warm in shorts and a t-shirt.
(TIP) You can buy soda from the pizza place near by, or a smoothy shop to cool down).
For full details about the music games at this location as on 8/14/11, here's the list:

When I walked into this place, I felt like I had walked into a parallel universe where arcades were still thriving. CHQ has new machines, imported from Japan, but best of all, it is *busy*. Community is what makes a good arcade. Go there late on a Friday afternoon, and you will find it filled with young men *and* women.
