I'm not a huge connoisseur of Chinese food; I dig it Westernized and deep-fried and perhaps even doused in a gloppy sauce. Chopsticks has been on Columbia Street for many years, serving the gloriously inauthentic type of Chinese food that my mom would have ordered from the local take-out when she didn't feel like cooking.
As did I the other night. I ordered a few old favourites: lemon chicken, dry garlic pork, chow mein, and egg rolls. Ordering from a new place is always an adventure, but when I walked in to pick the stuff up, I was happy to hear the roar of a full restaurant - a good endorsement. (Chopsticks is mostly known in the neighbourhood for their $10 buffet, with a discount for seniors. Lots of oldsters around here, so you can imagine its popularity.)
It wasn't exactly gourmet, and the lemon chicken might have been a bit too deep fried, but it filled the craving. Think I'll have some for breakfast!
Update: I just remembered - they didn't give me any fortune cookies?! Sorry, I have to dock at least a half-star for that.Listed in: Bright Lights, Royal City

By far the WORST restaurant I've been to EVER.
We should have walked out as soon as we walked in - but I was so dead set on Chinese "buffet" that nothing could dissuade me.
Holy what a mistake.
This place should not be in business. It's so NOT busy that the buffet just doesn't have fresh stuff on it. The variety and quality of it sucks - I know I should have taken pictures of the food - I was just too f-ing mortified.
It's totally old inside like they haven't updated it since the 70s. It's not very clean.
Anyway, ENOUGH. I've spent enough time talking and thinking about this disgusting place! -

I first ate at Chopsticks six years ago, when my wife ans I moved into the neighborhood. I LOVE great Chinese food, so we paid a visit to Chopsticks, withhigh hopes for some great eating.
It is not an exaggeration to say that I told my wife "I'll NEVER come back to this restaurant again!" The food was really that bad. The food (dine in at their buffet) is the worst Chinese food I've ever had in my ENTIRE LIFE by FAR! I only wish that I was exaggerating here.
Having said that, I did return to Chopsticks a couple of years later, hoping that perhaps I had just encountered one of their 'off' days on the previous occasion. The food was every bit as horrible the second time as it was the first time.I commented to my wife "I'm glad we came here the second time, just to remind me of why I vowed never to come back here." So I give them a rock solid one star for their buffet. It is as if the people who work there don't care what the food tastes like, and figure that their customers won't be any the wiser. No wonder the dining room is usually almost completely empty when I walk by and look in the window!
Pathetic!
On rating Chopsticks takeout food, I'd give them a slightly higher two stars; it'll do if you don't want to cook, are in a hurry, and your hunger pangs have you at a disadvantage. Otherwise avoid this restaurant, as there are better ones around (although the neighborhood lacks a truly decent Chinese restaurant). If you're willing to drive a few miles, you can find some decent Chinese restaurants; but I suspect that Chopsticks will never be one of them, unfortunately. -

So far, the worst Asian food experience I have ever had. The buffet that I tried I am sure had an MSG component. The taste of the food was awful, found it was very difficult to eat- mild taste of car oil.
The place is certainly big sized though, would be a good size for having a party. It likely hasn't been redecorated in some time. Of note, it has not always done well when seen by the food inspectors.
I have never seen it busy. I am a big fan of the buffet scene, but would not highly reccomend this establishment,,, unless you want a quasi-cheap buffet meal.
Yes, just like the other reviewer, I recognize the need to have a cheap meal... but seriously...
