Review from Edward L.
Came here for some appies and drinks.
The drinks come in the correct glasses, which is pretty cool. For example, they serve your Peroni lager in a Peroni glass. Same goes for Guinness and Heineken etc.
They make an appetizer platter that includes goodies such as wings, fries, cheese bread, and cocktail shrimp. Other than the shrimp, it's actually quite difficult to share this platter by hand, other than the fries. People were dropping food bits everywhere. That cocktail shrimp is good though. They use nice and huge prawns. Yum.1 Previous Review: Show all »

Call it superficial but do you fall in love with pretty things? When the appearance draws you in? But you know you've found a place with personality... Chop Steakhouse Bar has plush leather seats, rich wood furniture, and luminance sphere lightings... this opulent casual fine dining has a bit of luxurious persona.
Come in thru the grand entrance and indulge on some wine and chops in the dining room or over at the lounge. Both sides offer private rooms for parties and entertainment.
I came here for lunch on Friday because I wanted to get away from the busyness of Richmond. We wanted a place to wind down before the weekend begins... This little retreat is tranquil during the day before Happy Hour and dinner hour begins. Service is friendly and prompt.
Steak Sandwich
Peppercorn grilled medium rare steak served over garlic cheese bread and a side of Caesar salad that comes with real bacon bits. Steak itself was a bit tough but I think it's to do with the cut of the sirloin itself.
Fresh Ahi Tuna Salad
Flavourful Ahi tuna served on tender butterleaf lettuce and lightly minted wild mushroom salad with lime vinaigrette and wasabi cheese toast. I like adding avocados to my salads because it adds more depth and plus it is more filling.
Fresh Seafood Chowder
Homemade from scratch and served with a buttery bun. Lots of ingredients but unfortunately not creamy enough.
Enter the tunnel to the lounge... you are transported into a trendy lounge where you can root for your favorite Nucks, down a couple pints and chill with friends... The platter is awesome for sharing and they have daily drinks special! Be sure to check out the washrooms, they are super posh -

Came here again for a birthday party. Party room? Yes please! The room was nicely adorned with lovely chandeliers, a big screen TV and huge suede chairs that could have fit two of me. It was nice how the room could be shut out from the rest of the longue with sliding doors, but it was open 75% of the time because the waitresses kept coming in and out, which is fine because they gave average service.
I started off my night with a Pink Lemonade Cocktail ($7), which was a little too sweet for my liking. The raspberry sorbet was probably the culprit but it was decent nonetheless. As an appy, I shared Onion Rings with a White Truffle Aioli. The onion rings were crispy and delicious on the outside and sweet and yummy on the inside. One of the best onion rings I've had! I also tried from Steak Bites from a friend and they were super soft and tender and the dipping sauces were to die for - yum!
For my entree I had the Top Sirloin Oscar. I was really looking forward to my steak fix but was disappointed with a medium cooked steak instead of a medium-rare. I could have complained but I already waited a while and was hungry. Sadly, the only medium-rare portion of my steak was a toonie sized portion in the middle. The vegetables that accompanied my steak were okay, the carrots were quite dry. The mashed potatoes were good but I didn't enjoy the hard, dry skins that were mixed in with it. The only really good part of the dish were the shrimp - cooked perfectly!
The chef over-cooked my friend's steak as well and he had it taken back but when it returned, it was still the same *shake head*. However, the waitress was nice and offered a free appy while he waited for his steak to return.
Maybe I caught the chef on a bad night but I was disappointed with my first steak here. I've had their Ahi Tuna Salad and that was a really great dish, maybe I'll stick to that.
Overall, a nice, intimate and cozy place to eat with friends or SO. -

Chop is a beautiful place with simple contemporary elegance. The meal was superb from the 1 course to the end of the meal. Dining choices are in the main dining, lounge or private area. We dined in the lounge with Michelle and the service was incredible. No empty glasses never a moment wondering where is my server. The price for was moderate but well worth the entire experience. I wish I had saved room for dessert..... Oh well just have to return on the next trip to Vancouver.

Walked in the "side entrance" into the bar. Bartender acknowledged me right away. He offered the daily drink special. I tried it, some Italian lager, it tasted good. I ordered the crab cakes to start and then the peppercorn ny strip loin with onion rings for the entreé. Overall experience was alright. The staff seemed disorganized at first. Bar top was a bit dirty as well. I would come here again based on the food. Might be a bit expensive.

My boyfriend and I went to Chop for our 7 year anniversary.
It was very dim lighting inside, and while I wouldn't want it to be too bright either, it seemed a bit too dark.
We both ordered steaks, and were given a bread basket as well. When our food arrived, we were not given any steak knives.
Our waiter was friendly enough, although did not check on us very often, and seemed to be more interested in the fish menus than anything else.
Also, I had arranged for a reservation ahead of time, which apparently was not needed (even though it was a Saturday night), and half way through our meal the restaurant called me on my cell phone asking if I was coming or not.
The food was allright, nothing too spectacular, but certainly not awful.
I don't see myself going back any time soon, but I wouldn't say I'd never go back. -
Review from Dru C.
Came here for a birthday party with my friends and it was EXTRAVAGANT!! I had such a great time here. We were treated as VIP guest with a private room, and the food was lovely too.
I loved the most was the decor of the place. The atmosphere really had a night life sense to it, and the place was packed when we arrived, and then we were escorted to the back of the restaurant with a private room.
After we were seated in the private room, we ordered a couple of drinks, which were amazing. I got the Pink Lemonade, and they placed a raspberry sorbet ice cream in a vodka and lemonade. You have to try it, it was so good.
We ordered a platter with a group of friends to share. I thought it was mediocre. Wasn't that special. Then we ordered a main dish each. The only negativity was that it took them a while to make it. We had the appetizer for more than 45 minute, and on top of that, we waited another 15 minutes for our friend to arrive, so pretty much we wait a long while for the main course. We didn't mind as they gave us a free round of drinks. We opened presents and took tons of pictures during the wait.
Then later the food arrived, we took tons of photos of the food. I ordered a steak with potatoes and scallops pie instead of the mashed potatoes. The dish was full of flavor and the steak really was cooked perfectly, rare medium, red and juicy. Just the way I like it. The good think about this dish is that they don't saturate it in sauce, instead the strong meaty taste was good enough to fill me with a great flavor.
We ordered the White Chocolate Creme Brulee. It was such a good desert to finish off the night. Such a sweet and tarty flavour. Not sweet not that creamy, it was just perfect in the middle.
We then got the cake of course for the friend. It was an amazing night as the waitress let us have a lot of privacy within the private room, and was very attentive with refilling the three jugs of water we had in the room. The free drinks and free deserts. I loved the night.
For sure I will be coming back here for another birthday party. It could be mine too ;)Listed in: Dru's Night Life~, Post Dinner Sweets

Went with a group of people from work for a lunch get together and were seated in the private room. The decore is pretty nice, and our waitresses weren't too hard on the eyes either. The service was very friendly and also very prompt. Prices are in line and portions on the things we had ordered were excellent.
The only complaint I had was the "seasonal vegetables" that came with my steak should be called "Green Beans with a couple tiny pieces of chopped red pepper for colour". The flavor however was good and the "doneness" was just right. When it comes to the veggies, a lot of places seem to have trouble with overcooking. The wasabi mashed potatoes were good too. Never had wasabi in my potatoes before, but it works well.
The steak was cooked perfectly and not over seasoned which is tough to find these days. Unfortunately we didn't save enough room for dessert, but I will be back for another visit.
The Prime Rib sandwiches were also raved about by the people in our group as were the chicken wings (Bourbon and hot flavors). Burgers were big and juicy, and the chicken was pretty good as well.
The patio seating also looks like it would be a great place to spend some time in the summer.
Oh and one last thing...that is one of the fanciest bathrooms I've paid a visit to in a long time. Maybe I'm not cultured enough, but why would you need a fountain, leather couch and flat screen tv in there? It's very nice, but somewhat confusing to a simpleton such as myself. ;) -

Nice huge modernesque style restaurant and lounge area. We came here for our mothers birthday. Our mom wanted Yorkshire pudding. So, as good sons do, whatever mom wants, mom gets! We practically called every restaurant out there that we could think of that would serve us prime rib and the elusvie Yorkshire pudding, but somehow decided on this restaurant, knowing that they do not make yorkshire pudding.
Lets get to the point! We had excellent service from our waitress, she was friendly and knowledgable, and they went over the top for us! Halfway through our meal, they brought out, wait for it...Yorkshire Pudding. Awesome! You have to give a restaurant props, that even though they don't usually make a certain dish, they went all out and serviced the customers needs.
Our food was at the most just ok, but what counted the most for me, was that the service was impeccable and they went above and beyond what we expected. I will return. Thank you Chop, you made my mothers birthday complete! -

Chop is a good place to go for Steak in Richmond. The interior decor was trendy but a bit too dark.
We went there for lunch with my co-workers and got seated in a private room. Lunch menu and service was good.
I had seafood chowder and halibut burger. The chowder was tasty and rich, taste just right and halibut burger was delicious. The halibut was quite thin and the chopped fresh strawberries on top was quite presentable but taste sour.
My co-worker ordered ahi tuna salad was ok. -

O! M! G! You know what? If you want to give a restaurant 5 stars just for absolutely outstanding service and attention to detail, it was last night at the CHOP.
Interestingly, I had posted up earlier in the talk threads looking for a place that served Prime Rib and Yorkshire pudding. Not very many places served this, and if they did, it was with something else, besides Prime Rib.
Why did we have to have it? Because it was Mums birthday and she wanted that. It was also my daughter's birthday so we wanted to have a nice family celebration with some good food.
I checked out the reviews here and I have to admit. Some of the later reviews had me worried, but then again, Those who wrote about the Prime Rib, really didn't know much about it. So I read the reviews that I did know and trust.
Prime Rib, you don't always get what you ask for. You have to understand this. The earlier you come, the better choice. You come too late, there might not be any left and or it's pretty much well done.
The reversal if you come too early. Not well done enough. So as a consumer of this. It's all about timing. Really.
When I booked online, I mentioned about the Yorkshire pudding. and that this is what we were looking for. Knowing that they didn't have it, I just thought I'd ask anyways. You know, just in case.
(on a sidebar, I even called the night before and asked if they had it, but they didn't. then I checked online for other options, but decided to come back and try it because there were some people who wanted the lamb, or the fish. And it was a nice location, easy to get to and my friends said. "try it out")
OK. Lets get to the food. Dispite a few hiccups, it was all good.
Apps were really nice.
Chicken wings - very good. Like the skewer thing going on there.
Lobster fritters - good. My brother mentioned that he had a salty one, but the rest were very good. Everyone liked them.
Mushrooms, yummy - for me it was a bit salty, but everyone liked them!
The main course for me was Prime Rib and I had it with the Bok Choy and a side of Macaronni and cheese. The Mac and cheese was a bit runny and not very cheesy. No problem. I ate it all anyways. The prime rib, (yes it did have fat in it, but that's a good thing really!) was juicy, tender and tasty. The juice and the horseradish were perfect for this. I ate till I was full to the gills.
My grandmother and aunt on the other side of the table really liked their Sable fish, my son gave the Teriyaki beef a 5 out of 5! He's a food hobbyist, his mother is a chef and then there's me. I was happy he enjoyed the food.
There was one hiccup, which the half rack of lamb came out well done when it was supposed to be rare or medium rare. I know that this is a challenging dish to cook because it takes so litle time in the oven to come out rare and the bone in it heats up and continues to cook the meat as it rests. They tried the second time, came close, but unfortunately it wasn't quite there yet. It was still a good effort. :)
Oh! Did I mention that they really came out with a surprise? Yorkshire pudding! They made it! Just for our group! I have to say that this really was over the top and all the smiles on the faces really made me happy. Even the Chef came out and served them.
Tonight was really a team effort on the staffs part.
If ever I wanted to write a glowing review, regardless of the hiccups this would be it.
I can confidently say that this was definately one of the better experiences I've had. Hats off to the staff at the Chop and especially to Phalyn, who had enough spirit, energy, and wit to deal with the Mr Grumpy, Mr Awkward moment guy in 3,2,1, the lambaster and the Paparazzi.
And I know that despite the fact that everyone is a food critic and everyone is right. I have to say, that I am happy that this event that night, turned out like the culinary fairytale that everyone deserves.
We will all come again!
Merci -

This place is quite average with the exception of its interior decor. While it is generally a nice experience to dine here, the pricing of this establishment is far too high to consistently justify the quality of the food and service.
On a positive note, the interior is fabulous. The outdoor patio is spacious and in a league of its own, and the private rooms we were given are massive with doors for plenty of personal space. The washrooms are comfortable, with leather couches, ample soap and clean bathrooms. With the mediocre food quality, I thought I may as well just stay longer there.
I ordered two appetizers to share and a medium rare 9oz steak (which ended up being more like a cold blue). Repeated attempts to rectify this were unsuccessful. The steak sides were almost embarassing: only a couple of carrots and a piece of broccoli. Even the Keg would be insulted to have served this as their steak offering. The appetizers were also disappointing. The Ahi Tuna and Salmon Trio tasted bland, quickly thawed /reconstituted and the portions were tiny, far below the value of a typical $14 appetizer at a chain restaurant. The service has always been slow at this place, and I have experienced 180 degree shifts in tone of voice and quality of service when it is time for the bill.
The quality and quantity of the food served seems inferior to chains such as Cactus Club or Moxie's, but its menu is as a whole priced quite a bit higher. I'd go elsewhere for the money, unless you have a special occasion. -

Remember when a good steakhouse provided reasonable prices with good sized portions and the steak came out exactly as ordered? I thought that the day of a properly cooked steak was dead. Dead until I found Chop.
How can you describe a perfect dining experience? It just can't be done with words in a forum or blog. Basically, Chop presented a perfect dinner experience that was fault free. From the perfectly cooked steak, to the beautiful environment, even to the attention to detail from a staff that obviously enjoys their work, I am sure that you will find just as perfect an experience as my wife and I have.
Before I wrote this review, I actually had to go back three times to ensure that my first experience wasn't a "fluke". I took family and friends over my next two appearances at Chop. All have come away saying, "wow."
Think back to your first visit to Disneyland. Think of that "Oh my..." feeling you had when you experienced those rides for the first time. This is the steakhouse equivalent of "it's a small world".
Now, for details. I wanted steak. Steak like I remembered my Dad cooking on the BBQ. Steak cooked to my favorite style. I'm not easy to please, and I know that. More than steak, I wanted a full dining experience. I wanted appetizers and desert.
I have one issue that usually stops me in my tracks. I have a serious allergy to nuts. Yes, it is a real pain. But, Chop handled this without any issue at all. How? Our waiter explained that policy required the manager to come and talk with me. When he came out, he explained that the chef is very proud of his kitchen and will accommodate any requirement I have. He asked me various questions and then confirmed that there was no problem. When the food came to our table, the waiter proudly placed the platter in front of me with a "not only is this nut free, but the kitchen was cleaned and no nut-based dishes were prepared during cooking so your wife's is nut free too."
I was in awe.
The steak was completely perfect. The vegetables and other sides were also tasty and NOT overcooked.
Appy was enormous and ended up being shared with my wife, steak was huge, and desert was spectacular. I was amazed by the "cooked in our kitchen" freshness, as many restaurants are bringing in their deserts premade.
Overall, it does cost a little more. But not much more.
IT IS WORTH EVERY PENNY.
(actually, I'd love to hear if others agree with me. I'll not be going back to The KEG, Chop has my steakhouse business as long as they stick to this level of quality) -

The first time I went to this Chop location was back in November for my best friends' birthday dinner, and back then we were all super impressed by the decor, the service, the food (and the speed at which we got our dishes after ordering), and were overall extremely impressed!
This time around, not so much... I don't know if it was because of the staff that was there, or other mitigating circumstances, but our evening was basically the Canadian version of Hell's Kitchen...
We went back for my best friends' wedding this time, a small 12-top gathering, but from the very beginning, things didn't go well. Our reservation was @ 8:30pm, but they room wasn't ready until around 9pm, so they made us all wait in the lounge/bar area for an extra half our.
Once in, waiter service was sporadic at best. When we finally placed our orders around 9:15, our food didn't arrive until 10:30p! And top it off, the food wasn't delilvered to everyone at once, and some people had to wait an extra 10 minutes, and some of the dishes were incomplete or mixed up! Everyone was looking at each other going WTH...
Again, don't know what caused this, but from an establishment as high-grade as this, I definitely expected FAR better service!
I doubt I'll be returning to this location anytime soon. -

Modern lounge in Richmond?
The Chop Lounge has its own separate entrance but connects to the main restaurant via a cool black and white tunnel. Modern decor with creative drink menu and a long list of wines to try. There are TVs for watching the game or you can just sit back in one of the bucket booths for a cozy night.
I've been here twice now, once for a friend's birthday and yesterday night for a drink with a friend. I can't quite get the "vibe" of this place- the cool decor is probably the most consist part of lounge! There is an interesting mix of people here. Perhaps since its connected to a hotel you get some business men types mixed with tourists, then there are the cool suburban peeps that who don't want to make their way to Yaletown, and those who are sick of the Earls or Cactus Club which seem to be the only other typical "lounge" places in central Richmond . Anyway, it makes for a interest mix.
I'd go back again to try some more of their drinks (I had a sparkling sangria complete with had a scoop of mango sorbet in it!) and try some of their appies. Its a nice alternative to have a place like this in Richmond to go to for a drink. -

I first went to Chop for my 19th birthday and I instantly fell in love with the decor! It's so modern and chic that my artistic side was in heaven!
Aside from its physical aesthetic, the hostesses, waiters and waitresses are all very friendly and smilely. I love that. Nothing is worse than walking into an establishment where every single person is miserable. The staff really seem to enjoy themselves.
I definitely have to say that I am not really a person of indulgence (when it comes to food) but when I go to chop all defenses are down and I order whatever I want because it's just that good!
My friend and I order the Chop Cut Fries to share as our appetizer. Now let me tell you this is the only place I EVER order fries; that's saying a lot. Since the last time I had fries was at my 19th Birthday and I am now about to turn 21. My main course was the ever fabulous Ahi Tuna Tataki Salad. It is just simply delicious. Usually restaurants are a little heavy-handed with the dressing, but the chefs got it right here. It's just enough to enhance the flavour of the Ahi Tuna, but not kill my palate. My friend and I were a little bad and decided to share a dessert. The Raspberry Creme Brulee with Walnut Biscotti. Oh my god. It was so good. It was not overly sweet, which is to my taste. I feel a little like Goldilocks in the sense that everything was "just right."
I'm not going to complain about the pricing and whatnot, because well you should kind of expect to pay that amount (also it depends on what type of meat you are looking at); and I count Chop as an indulgence since I hardly ever eat out.
Will definitely go again! -

One word: AWESOME!!!!
ok, one word and lots of exclamations points. But this place ROCKS! I mean seriously....where else can you find a perfectly cooked steak, perfectly cooked side of veggies (I mean it, the carrots were perfectly cooked), and a wonderful selection of wine while you are being served by a very attentive waitress?
We decided last night after yet another super long day at work to try Chop for the first time. We got there a little after 9:00 PM (told ya...super long day at work) and were dazzled by the ambiance and the interior design. Once we were seated, we were once again dazzled by our wonderful waitress Karen. She helped us with our selection and recommended some awesome dishes for us to try.
The food was amazing...we started off with Coconut Lime Mussels (yummy) and Lobster Scallop & Gorgonzola Dip (mouth watering good). For my main course, I had the 12 OZ Ribeye and as I stated before, it was perfectly seasoned and perfectly cooked. They are also running a promotion right now which allows you to get crab legs with your steak for $3.00. The crab legs were fantastic.
Chop also has a very good wine selection. Our waitress brought us a few different wines to sample in order to help with our decision making process (super long day at work = inability to make simple decisions like choosing wine). I thoroughly enjoyed my Bridlewood California Shiraz.
In case you couldn't figure it out, we will definitely make Chop one of our regular dining places! -

Expensive, good service mixed with really really salty foods.
Went here 3 times since it's right next to my work place but for some odd reason, their food is very salty. Service was good but I am afraid it's not good enough to compensate for the salty foods.
Updated: For some odd reason (yet another update - I had brain damage that day) I was talked into going back. This time not only was the foods still very salty, but the service was slow as well. It took them 5 minutes just to get our bill. Also waited around when we sat down for our server to show up.
Where's the the zero stars on this Yelp thing? -

I tried Chop for the first time for my family birthday dinner and I had a really nice experience there. It was surprisingly empty for a Saturday night.
I ordered the filet mignon (a full size is 8 oz, a petite size is 6 oz) with a side of scalloped potatoes. Other dishes ordered by my family were the baseball sirloin with crab, crab and orzo salad, rack of lamb, and pasta with crab, olives, and capers. (If you couldn't tell by now, there was a steak and crab special event happening).
My steak was perfectly tender and juicy, a tad more rare than the medium rare I had asked for, but understandable as the steak was quite thick. The scalloped potatoes was pretty tasty however I prefer mine to be a bit creamier. They are served like a giant pie wedge. The mashed potatoes weren't my favourite as they are infused with various herbs or other flavouring, which was a tad overpowering in my opinion.
I got a free dessert because it was my birthday, so I chose the New York cheesecake. It was very creamy, really yummy, and topped with fresh strawberries and blackberries.
Menu: I'm not gonna lie, if you're not a big meat eater this is probably not the restaurant for you. Mostly steaks, lots of seafood options, and a couple of pasta dishes. Proudly an OceanWise restaurant, which gets my approval for sure.
Price: most of the bigger appetizers average around $13-14, and entrees vary from $15-40, but the portions are quite large, so you're getting both good quantity and good quality food.
Ambiance: the decor is really nice and trendy, I loved the light fixtures for the smaller booths near the windows. It's quite dark in there, so bring a flashlight. Check out the restrooms (guys, you too! They didn't just pamper the ladies... Or so I hear). The walkway connecting the Sandman hotel to the restaurant is pretty cool.
Service: very friendly, our server came around often enough to check up on us. The manager was also on hand, making several walk-throughs to make sure all the patrons were satisfied.
Overall, I had a really enjoyable experience and if I'm ever craving a nice juicy steak, I think I would choose Chop over other more obvious choices. -

Great FOOD Great Experience...among the current top choices for higher end dining in Richmond.
Chop gets a big thumbs up from me! Lots of variety and huge portions. Great service. Chop really tries to please and delivers. Where else do you get a complimentary glass of wine upon entry.
I'm very impressed with Chop -

Why do all good things come to an end? Certainly i hope it's nothing but just a momentary slip...
went there for my birthday, ordered the exact same thing... bone in rib eye with the scallop potatoes... i gotta say the food shrunk in size, and my steak was actually over cooked... quite a disappointment...
we were placed in the 10 person room in the lounge... i'm not sure if it's because we are "isolated", the service was terrible... and we had to wait a long time before our food arrived... not to mentioned that we waited close to 40mins before we got our seats...1 Previous Review: Show all »

The private room here is a great place to have a get-together with friends. It's a beautiful room, and makes you feel like you're alone in the restaurant. I've been there a couple of times and both times it was pretty empty.
The food is great, their burger is delicious and so is the steak. But what's really unique about this restaurant is the decor, so if you appreciate that kind of thing go check it out. -

Definitely a new fan of Chop. I decided to come here for dinner with a friend because I've never been before. The restaurant is gorgeous & something to experience.
Before I got to the door, a lovely woman already had it open for me. She walked me to my friend's table and, most amazingly, was dressed in something that didn't resemble Cactus Club's usual uniform (ie she wore something lovely instead of short and tarty). In fact, all the staff were lovely. Our waiter was attentive without overdoing it; I almost walked into a man carrying a tray of glasses (I swear, his shirt blended in with the wall!) but he apologized to me after I apologized to him & they were quite kind in showing me where the bathroom was.
And oh my god, the bathrooms. So nice. 5 ft+ tall statues depicting male or female so there's no mistake, the stalls are roomy, the sinks are amazing and there are leather sofas. I wanted to lounge in there but dinner was about to be served.
There was a small snafu with our appetizer but it was fixed so quickly, it seems silly to call it a snafu. As a result, I can assure you that both the bourbon chicken wings and the hot wings are delicious.
The cap in my prime rib was a little fatty (I'd probably go with the sirloin next time) but the drool-worthy wasabi mashed potatoes more than made up for it. I think I'll try it at home next time.
All in all, a definite recommend. It's not cheap but it's a nice night out. -

Do you want to go on a Caribbean bungalow vacation without spending thousands of dollars? Well come on down to Chop in your tweed and sunblock and sip on the alcohol of your choice. They serve many adult drinks while endless bob marley joints blare out of their speakers. Recently opened in December 2008, this place is still working out the kinks but man oh man do they know how to aesthetically please the eye. The architecture inside this place is gorgeous and impressive. You know how you go to the bathroom and you think, "wow".. and then you go out and tell your friends to go check it out? It's one of those places. They have padded walls on the way to the washroom in case you are too drunk to walk stright, but in reality, i think its because it is SO dark in there. They are also handicap friendly and have ramps for wheelchairs, which I thought was a bonus. Its those small attention to detail that makes a restaurant great. Fact: This was the top 10 restaurant that opened in Canada in 2008.
The food was okay. I did enjoy the port vinegerette on my salad but my salmon burger was a little messy, the steak bowl was pretty good but the rice tasted weird. I have high hopes for their steak and fish plates though because it did seem very fresh and tender. All in all, if you're ever in the area, you MUST stop by and get a drink on their patio! -

Chop is an awesome restaurant with a good variety of menu choices at a decent price. The interior decor was beautiful, from the entrance to the bathroom, each detail was carefully thought out. We ordered the beef carpaccio and iceberg salad, it was fresh and large enough to share. For entrees, we ordered the halibut, their daily fresh catch special and a steak. The fish was made perfect, full of flavour. The steak was made to order, just right. The sides were delicious and had 4 choices to choose from. The wine list was laid out nicely with many choices, along with cocktails and quality spirits. We were too full for dessert, but will definitely try it next time. The service was excellent, prompt and friendly. Definitely recommended!!!

A solid good a Monday nite empty room solid service food was really quite good decent portions tho could have been a little hotter average the 5 meals were 7 out of 10. Washrooms amazing. I thought cactus club had the coolest washrooms but chop takes it. Huge restaurant and the patio that wasn't open looks amazing. I was sceptical going in due to reviews but I would go back and try it again

After reading all the reviews, I really thought I would be in for a treat. We were disappointed.
A friend of mine went there for his birthday and suggested the prime rib as a "do all" for a test of steakhouse cuts o meat.
We made reservations and wanted to have a great time as it was a nice Sunday dinner evening out.
We walked in through the bar and main dining areas and I was really impressed on the renovations that took place to make this place look retro-modern cool. The bar looked fantastic, and this is the only reason why I would ever go back again. To hang at the bar with a few good friends is my only good point to this review. The bartender was probably the only server who genuinely welcomed us on this day.
So we were seated and looked over the menu and proceeded to order.
My wife ordered the sea bass, and I ordered the medium size prime rib. When my prime rib arrived, we found that it was 40% fat - ewwww - and it was as really chewy - rubber tire chewy. I ordered it well done and it came as medium rare smothered in black sauce as to hide the carelessness of the way the way it had been carved and cooked. A steakhouse - no way - "The Keg Richmond" is the true steakhouse. My wife commented on the sea bass as being over cooked and mushy - a real disappointment.
Never again for dinner here - a drink at the bar maybe - beware of the good reviews. -

Very modern place, reminds me of Tao in Vegas. Food was great and service was excellent also.

went here for dinner on new year's eve.. they had a standard 3 course dinner for $45
the ambience is pretty nice inside
the appy course was really good.. it was a trio.. salmon, steak bites and a goat cheese and beets ensemble.. they were all amazing
for the main i had the prime rib and it was so-so
for dessert they served warm chocolate cake.. the only thing missing was the lava.. that would have made it awesome.. i think this was the first time i had warm choc cake without any creamy filling so it was a bit of a letdown
the service was OK, he checked up on us but was kind of creepy.. lol.. so it probably was just the server but i'm sure otherwise its OK
the other thing they LIED about was giving out free tix to the lounge next door if we ordered dinner but then when it came time for that they reneged and said we had to pay another $20 a person.. not cool -

For Richmond BC, this maybe the best place for all things "STEAK"...if the rating was based on flavour, then it would be 5 for 5...but what this place is lacking is SMART hostess and waitress. Trying to make a reservation seems almost impossible when speaking with the hostess. This is the 3rd or 4th time it happened, when she got confused with how to make reservations....you would think it's a simple duty and one as a Hostess could easily make.....i can go on and on, but I won't...the 2nd reason why i didn't give Chops a complete 5 for 5 is their waitress....didn't know how to open a bottle of wine, had to ask a "guest" to open for her, walked into a pole...need I say more....by the way, they need to remove some bad wine from their list....always ask for a taster before splurging on a bottle.

This place was awesome. Went here last night based on the reviews provided here by other users and weren't let down. We were looking for a place convenient to an airport hotel that wasn't an overpriced hotel restaurant and we were very happy with the decision.
The décor is great and the staff was extremely helpful. They were happy to oblige when we asked them to turn down the music and even all signed a birthday card for the birthday in our group. -

Although the service was super-friendly and accommodating, the food was average. My seafood chowder was excellent, but the steak sandwich was, well, ordinary at best. The meat was on the tough side, and the garnishes were wilted and unappetizing. On the upside, the design is quite spectacular and the washrooms classy. Could've gotten a 4-5 star if the food was up to par with the rest of the package.

I've been here twice now and all I can say is that I will not be going back. They seriously need a better executive chef that can create recipes that are truly delicious. I had a steak sandwich for lunch that I found tough and for dinner, I had an entree salad and I had to send it back because the whole thing was over salted. Sorry...looks like Chop tries hard but I'd rate it in the class of a Red Robin even though its trying to be a notch higher than the Keg.
