I love Choices Market, however, whenever I go to their retail grocery locations, all the gluten free stuff is sold out. This store is a complete gluten free bakery heaven. The thing that sucks is that it is out of my way. I could only come down when I visit my best friend since it is only a few minutes from his house. I was just there while I waited for my meal a few doors down at the Indigo Raw food cuisine. It's a separate facility that makes everything gluten free, therefore, it made me feel comfortable that when I do go to a Choices Market that I do not have to worry about cross contamination. Everything is made with the standard rice flour, nothing innovative or imaginative but appreciated none the less.

They had gluten free pie which will be perfect for my upcoming B-day with the family.

If you are a muffin addict and also gluten free - this is your place.  They have every kind of muffin you could want.  Bran, blueberry, and this chocolate one that tastes like chocolate cake.  Mmmmm!  They taste pretty much like regular muffins I'd say.  Although it's been a really long time since I've had a regular muffin.  I love the honey sweetened carrot muffin since it has no sugar (besides honey) and is delicious.

Tried their pot pie once - was pretty good.  Was going to buy some frozen pie crust but it was 9.99 so I was like no freaking way.  I'll make my own.

All the cookies are pretty sugary - why doesn't any bakeshop in Van get on board with low-glycemic sweeteners?  Coconut sugar?  I would pay through the nose for some coconut sugar sweetened cookies!

It's not often that I find myself in this part of town, but when ever I do I make an effort to stop into the bakery.

I let my gluten free inner child fly free and order everything I want with abandon!

Cupcakes with hearts for Valentines day, (eaten long before the date ;-}  Ginger bread hearts, Chocolate cake loaf, and soft, spongy "hamburger rolls" that are great for sammis and pannini or just as toast. Chocolate cookies that almost melt in the mouth....
    Weee! nummies.

I've recently been diagnosed with having a gluten allergy and have been searching for bakeries where I can find baked goods I can actually eat!

I went to Choices Rice Bakery yesterday for the first time and was a bit disappointed. It was 3:30 so maybe it was because it was close to the end of the day, but the bakery was tiny and had very little choice.

I ended up not buying anything, not because of how the food looked (because it did look and smell amazing!) but because everything was wrapped in plastic! I'm kicking the plastic addiction that we seem to have in N.American society and generally bakeries have fresh goods, not packaged. I was disappointed that, even when I asked, they didn't have a single item not pre-packaged.

So, unfortunately I won't be going back. Hopefully I can find another bakery that doesn't use so much plastic but that still caters to my dietary needs!  :(

I don't know if it's something in the water or cosmic radiation but nowadays I know more and more people who can't have gluten. Whether it's celiac or just allergies there seem to be millions and gluten is a tough thing to cut out of the food you make. Luckily I live near the Choices Rice bakery whose whole existence is dedicated to just that.
Now I'll admit i'm giving them a good rating mostly out of the convenience of its existence. Most Gluten-free goods are awful pre-packaged affairs and it's nice to get something fresh if you're going to a potluck or having people over. That said I think Gluten is definitely what makes most baked goods delicious so some of the selections at this bakery leave me, thankfully with a choice when eating gluten, running in the opposite direction.
Though, while the desserts are a bit off, I've had a few breads I really like and would thoroughly suggest. Also, it's a nice small location and all the bakers are friendly and helpful so it doesn't seem quite like an extension of a big supermarket chain. I definitely don't think there's a better place to find gluten-free baked goods in the city.

Dedicated gluten-free bakery definitely gets 5 stars in my book!
The gingerbread is heavenly, the cheesecakes are delish and the little almond moon and star-shaped cookies are a real treat!
Some of the muffins are a little dry but the carrot ones are usually pretty decent.  The mini-cheesecake bites are great and freeze well, as do the mini-brownie bites.
The prices reflect the specialty nature of the bakery but it's well worth the cost.
If you loved gingerbread pre-Celiac, this place is a MUST!  Whether they are serving them as people, hearts or shamrocks, they are always divine.
