Vancouver, BC
Chinatowns on the surface, may seem a bit off-putting to some ' aliens,' and / or exciting to others.
Why ? because like many paces and things today.....most do not bother to search the past and understand why they even came into existence, the purpose they once served, the purpose they still serve.
Without which a cursory walk through, a quick look for a snack or a bargain...these are the impressions that many sadly form.
Vancouver's Chinatown is no exception and without scratching the surface, it would be relatively easy to frame a view that was [ whilst short lived ] detrimental to the ' culture,' of this human living space.
Whilst working in the vicinity, I delved, dived and slumbered over Chinese tea, in this Chinese portion of the best city on earth. [ part of that work I should add, involved early morning ' clean-up,' of the unfortunate, who find themselves resident on the streets hereabouts ] Trust me, that gives you a total viewpoint on a place and in itself, brings one into touch with reality of any city environment.
SIMPLY put...You choose to enjoy the wonder, culture and excitement of life in Chinatowns and Vancouver's, has all there is to offer in this regard.

Seems like a very pity full part of town. The Chinatown is only 2 blocks across and 3 blocks down. There are only a few shops that sell anything other than food and parking is expensive.
On the north of Chinatown is the slums. -

I really like this Chinatown (especially compared to Seattle's)! The food is so tasty, the butcher shops sell the best meats, there's a really peaceful and enclosed park (Dr. Sun Yat Sen Park), and there are so many herbal shops to check out! It's so fun just taking my camera and walking around Chinatown taking pictures of the most fascinating subjects here.

I'll have to write this review in a few parts. There is so much vibrant history with Vancouver's Chinatown. The rise and fall of many communities, not only Chinese, but the Japanese, the infusion of the Vietnamese and Philippino communities, and it's ever-growing. It has a symbiosis with the city, the people and culture that has taken on it's own meaning.
Such a rich and vast history cannot be left unmentioned here on Yelp. If you have any stories to relate on this cultural icon, please write!
Post up pictures, links to your reviews of stores and restaurants that help to make this Chinatown. THE Chinatown to be in!Listed in: Mojofoodies -Chinatown

Vancouver has a pretty awesome Chinatown, it's a lot bigger than the Toronto or Montreal Chinatown and its pretty cool to walk through! You can find everything here, from Chinese herbs to cheap dental tools... the only thing you can't seem to find is a 2.5mm cord... lol...
Anyways, good place to wander if you have some spare time! -

Chinatown in huge. This is coming from a comparison to San Francisco's Chinatown, which I'm familiar with. The streets go on and on filled with goods on the streets. I would definitely check it out and do a walk through. There are bakeries, restaurants, grocery stores lining the streets. Sun Yat Sen's garden is here & the world's narrowest building can be found on 8 West Pender.
