Review from Shawna D.
Chester, NS
The Chester Play House is situated in downtown Chester. It was built in 1938 as a movie theater.
In 1968 it held its first live entertainment production. A lot has been done with the Playhouse over the years, but it remains as one of the greatest places to see a play or view live entertainment ,
The inside of the theatre has a balcony section as well as lower seating for 176 in total.
The Playhouse has a very warm appeal, it takes you back for those who can remember ,to the old style theatres. There has been some great talent come through the doors and grace the stage.
It is a first rate Playhouse. -
Review from Laura P.
Chester Playhouse is a great opportunity to get out of the city and enjoy performance art at an inspired pace. Mainly theatre, the site also offers music, dance, and movies amongst other random oddities.
With summer theatre in full bloom, the playhouse is currently showing not one but two shows: Talking Heads 2 and the classic Mid Summer Night's Dream. Take your pick.
While prices can add up for a full family trip, the Playhouse does offer "pay what you can" movie nights, and its worth checking in on what they've got going. Seasons change, and so does the Chester Playhouse. They do a great job of invoking new fun and creating the warmth of community for those with interest. -

For a small-town theatre, the Chester Playhouse packs them in time and again over the seasons.
Home of the Chester Theatre Festival, the Playhouse runs all sorts of performances between March and December. Many productions include local talent, allowing citizens to keep their hand into dramatic and musical performances.
The Theatre itself has undergone several renovations in recent years, bringing the quality of its backstage and changing rooms up to expected theatre levels. Christopher Ondaatje, the originaly benefactor of the Chester Playhouse, again contributed a sizable amount to the renovations, allowing completion of all planned activities.
The Chester Playhouse is rarely dark through the summer season. Catch one of their presentations in a charming location. -

Well it was interesting to see how much I enjoyed this small little theatre. My Niece has become interested in theatre and has enjoyed many plays at this particular Playhouse.
This is a staple in Chester for the folks that live there. Great live entertainment though out the year. Visiting this small and cozy playhouse I have leaned that it used to me a old movie theatre that was done over to the Playhouse.
The Staff are truly amazing with the work that they do with the kids to have them up and running for these productions. Cynthia I think is here name normally creates these plays and directs all these children. Hats off to her for all her hard work.
Catch a play some night or in the summer get the venue as they do have local artist as well as different things going on through the summer.
