Chef Hung knows how to make beef and noodles happy together. I certainly enjoyed his delicious combination. I ordered the beef shank and tendon noodle soup and the marinated beef wrap in crispy pancake.
It was the best prepared lunch I have had in a while. I told my wife the beef wrap was the best side dish I had in months. The order came in 2 rolls cut into 8 pieces. I had all but one since it was so good. Sorry wife! She was shocked I wolfed it down so quickly. The wrap is basically the equivalent of a beef burger slider. So good! The flat noodle choice is probably the best noodle on the menu.
Gotta make time to go there again.
PS: It would help if you know a bit of mandarin. Their servers speak English first but are comfortable and conversational in mandarin all the time. It is a Taiwanese restaurant in an Asian mall of course! -
Review from Larry L.
It's been awhile since I've been here and I had the opportunity to take my ex and daughter and sister in-law for lunch there. They've never been there. Can you believe that?
I always thought this place was very popular and after all this time they've been opened, they've never tried their wonder beefy soups, noodles and dishes.
The three girls had the Champion beef shank with noodle in spicy soup for $10.95, all with extra spicy (then again, for them spicy comes at a higher level!). One had thinner noodles and the other two had the regular thicker noodles.
All three of them commented that it wasn`t that spicy, but it was very good.
I think daughter unit should have had the Seasonal vegetable with noodle in soup for $6.95 but I don`t think she saw it. I ended up eating all the meat that came with her dish as she handed it over to me. `Here, can you eat this for me? I can`t eat it." She`d proclaim because she is "kinda" Vegetarian. The meat was very good.
My lovely Ex couldn`t finish her bowl of soup and noodles but said it was a good portion and very delicious. She was hoping for "more spicy" She wants to keep her figure slim, so again, I ate more of her share...(This is why I'm so fat!)
I think the portions are decently sized for what you get and the quality is still very very good.
Other side dishes we had.
Spicy beef tendons $5.95 4 stars
Cold mixed bean-curd noodle $3.50 4 stars for me, 3 stars for them - a bit too sweet.
Pan fried sliced radish cake $3.50 4 stars for all of us.
Ground vegetable dumpling (6pcs) $6.95 4.5 stars for all of us. Light soup broth, clean looking and tasting and vegetables.
Overall experience? I`d say another 4 to 4.5 stars. I was glad they really liked it.Listed in: Taste Bud Tinglers, Asian Noodle Spots in Richmond, Taiwanese Food, Bubble Tea Economy - happiness…

Authentic, fresh, and good (fast) service.
Their kimchee side dish taste very different from the kimchee in Korean restaurants. The taste is fresh and seems like they added some ginger in there. Other side dishes like cucumber and seaweed are all very fresh.
They pre-package their side dishes so they are ready to be served once you place your order. The noodles are also served super fast. It can probably be slightly pricey considering the amount they serve but I think the noodles are fresh and authentic.
I would suggest to look at the picture display outside the restaurant when you visit because they do not have a picture menu once you are seated. They do have English subtitles in the menu so that was not too difficult. However it was still difficult to make the choice just reading off the description from the menu. -

I discovered this place on Yelp since I was craving for some spicy noodles. Visited the place with my girlfriend and we absolutely loved it! She found it a little too spicy, but it was just perfect for me. They have very fast service, i dont think it took them more than 6 minutes to get the order to us. I also tried their milk tea and it was pretty good too. Highly recommended!

What a lucky restaurant to have a whole wall of window space but even luckier to hold the award winning beef noodle creations by Chef Hung. So naturally, I had to give this place a try!
Lots of selection of different types of Taiwanese foods but I had to go for a bowl of beef noodle soup, I decided on the Champion Braised Beef Shank with (thick) Noodles in Tomato Soup ($10.95). My boyfriend was able to read a bit of the chinese description as well and it had words of the tomato used being special and good for you - well veggies does the body good!
When my big bowl of noodle soup came, I was immediately swarmed with the warm aroma of a broth rich in all flavours beef and tomato. The noodles were so good, like soooo gooood! A perfectly cooked noodle, which needed a little effort to bite and chew - a good sign of noodle tenderness. The noodles were obvious that they were hand-made, some being oddly shaped and the thickness varying but imperfections are what make them perfect. The braised beef shank literally fell apart in my teeth and I was so pleased none got stuck between my teeth. Only downfall, the lonely half slice of bok choy in my bowl - kind of weak Chef Hung.
Lastly, the waiters were pleasant but very eager to clear our table. We left a piece of corn to cool on a plate but they took it away! In all honestly, the corn looked like it was already eaten/mangled but that's how they gave it in the bowl!
Note: They said no HST, but in a way I think it was just added into the set price because $10.95 for a bowl of noodles is a little pricey, regardless of how good or famous it is.
Overall, stomach-warmingly satisfying. Well return!
PS: If you spend over $200 here, you get a special VIP room!Listed in: A warm hug on a cold day

PROS:
+ Award winning noodles
+ Shaved Snow!
CONS:
- slow service
Came here for the noodles and was amazed by the dessert, haha. This is why I like to eat out, I really like being surprised by places in a good way. The Champion beef shank with noodle in spicy soup is not bad, I wouldn't write home about it, but a good noodle soup that you would expect to get from a Taiwanese noodle place. What we were astounded by was the shaved snow here. The texture is so silky smooth and the sweet soup dumplings and red bean that we got with it had us fighting for spoonfuls.
Come here for the noodles, but salivate over the shaved snow dessert. -

I HEART Taiwanese beef noodle soup! Chef Hung's is located in Aberdeen Centre, so automatically you know that it'll probably be a little more expensive than other Taiwanese beef noodle soup restaurants. I got the classic beef & tendon noodle soup with the flat noodle and LOVED it! The soup wasn't too spicy at all but I only got 2 pieces of meat and about 4-5 pieces of tendon. I wished the beef to tendon ratio was a bit higher. The "pickled veggies" were actually Napa cabbage?! Not too authentic there. The noodles were definitely the highlight of the dish! Super chewy and definitely hand made!
We also got the beef pancake which was a good big portion size - 8 pieces per order! It was pretty huge! I liked that it wasn't too oily, but I think the sauce is a little too strong and pungent and somewhat overpowers the delicacy of the dish.
And as always, Taiwanese beef noodle soup leaves you super thirsty afterwards! -
Review from Josie H.
You would think a restaurant that was originally opened in Taiwan knows how to make an authentic beef noodle soup.
However, I was wrong.
Their beef noodle soup lacks all the authenticity one soup should have. For example, the sour pickles/lettuce?!! The broth?!!?
Disappointing!
However, the beef wrap was decent, I ate five pieces! I like the crispy wrap, with the sauce and the tiny cucumber! YUMYUM! -

I've been here twice and I loved this place. It's located in Aberdeen Centre, and since I hardly ever go to that mall, that means I don't get to eat at Chef Hung's.
Anyways, the noodles at this restaurant are amazing. They don't soak up all of the soup like most noodles do and they were the perfect tenderness. The beef in my noodle soup was also very tender and delicious. Portion sizes are ginormous...trust me, I was full after I was done eating. If you order one of their noodle and meat soups, you won't need to order anything else.
Service was incredibly fast. Within 3-5 minutes after I ordered, the food was served! The only minus is that most of the waitresses don't speak English too well. Otherwise, going to Chef Hung's was worth it. -

Who is Chef Hung anyways? I've never heard of him before til now; apparently he was personally in the kitchen cooking when the restaurant first open a few years ago with great anticipation. He has won some awards in Taiwan and he is known as the "King of Taiwanese Beef Noodle". They take their beef noodles quite seriously in Taiwan.
The restaurant is located in Aberdeen mall and it's looks very pristine. It has a very clean and modern interior. I found the service to be good and efficient. I heard they have a VIP room which can be had if you spend a certain amount of money. I guess it's for the "see-lai's" who get together for their pre-Mah Jong meals, it's Richmond!
The ordering system at Chef Hung's is standard to these noodle places where you check off what you want to order on a single sheet of paper. It's not exactly cheap at $10.95 per bowl. I ordered the Braised beef shank & tendon with noodle in spicy soup.
It looks very small portioned and quite plain to be honest for $11. The broth is light tasting and not even spicy. I'm not even sure why it was listed as spicy; did Chef Hung forget the chilli's? The beef shank and tendons were tender, very tasty. My only complaint, there was half a baby bok choy in the entire bowl! Seriously, half of one baby bok choy! Come on Chef Hung, I know the lines are not as long anymore; but you can do better.
Overall, it's a good place for TBN but it doesn't live up to the hype. -

My sister-in-law is from Taiwan so when she came to Vancouver we went to Chef Hung's and I was hoping she could have a taste of 'home'. There were 10 of us and most of us ordered the Champion Beef with thick noodles.
The broth was just okay for me (so glad no MSG! Wish I had read Yo-Hwan L's review to order spicy sauce beforehand :) but the beef was one of my favorite cuts of meat I have ever tasted. It was so tender! The noodles were more starchy and al dente than I was expecting, but I still enjoyed them greatly.
The marinated beef in crispy pancake was quite good but I did not like the green onion pancake at all. I have had much better and the texture just was not what I was expecting. My favorite thing after the beef in the soup was some tofu that my SIL ordered. It was in sticks, and had been marinated in a dark sauce and was the tastiest tofu I have ever had.
My husband is a very limited eater due to his health and was not sure beforehand if he would be able to eat at the restaurant, but he too enjoyed his soup and had a nice experience at Chef Hung.
It is pricier than we are used to paying for this style of food but was a fun experience. We found the service very brisk and efficient but not impersonal. The washrooms are the size of those on an airplane which did make us laugh a bit. It is fun to walk around Aberdeen Mall after eating. -

I do not understand the hipe those TV and magazine commercials are bringing to this place - award winning noodles?
For almost $11, I think those noodles could be better. However, because I don't eat spicy food, I ordered my noodles with a non-spicy soup base. Maybe that had something to do with the amazingness of the food.
The soup base/broth was alright... nothing special. Same goes with the slices of beef in there. I found the noodles to be quite interesting and not bad. Best of all though, was the beef brisket. The beef brisket was the only part of the beef noodle soup I can honestly say was really good. The meat falls apart in your mouth. Yum.
Service was okay, too. I don't really have much to praise or complain about the service.
To be brutally honest, though... I didn't feel like my bowl of beef noodles was worth the amount I paid for. -

Stopped by this place while I was at the mall. I had just returned from Whistler, so some Asian comfort food sounded so very good. The decor is very clean and modern with adequate seating. There were 3 in my group including myself and we were seated quickly. Laid out on the tables were the menus and another menu where you mark down what you want.
Food ordered:
Marinated beef wrapped in crispy pancake
Beef brisket with thick noodle in clear soup
Champion beef shank with thin noodle in spicy soup
Pork with gravy and veggies over rice
Mango shaved ice
The marinated beef wrap was good. I have had better in the US but it was still good and I had no complaints. My son had the pork over rice and he enjoyed it very much. I am not one who likes a lot of sauce on my meat/food, so I thought it was ok. The beef brisket thick noodle soup was very good but the noodles were a little too thick for my liking. You can tell the noodles were fresh and home made but again, I am not a fan of thick noodles so I was happy I did not order that dish. I had the beef shank with thin noodles in spicy soup and it was SO good! Beef was very flavorful and had just the right texture. The noodles were still a bit too thick to be considered "thin" but it had good texture and was good nonetheless. The soup could have been spicier but I tend to have a higher tolerance for spice. For dessert, the three of us split the mango shaved ice and it was AWESOME!! It was so light and fragrant and was enough for the three of us to share. I can't want to go back and try the shaved ice again. -

Was in the Aberdeen Centre checking out the stores and food. Came across Chef Hung Taiwanese Beef Noodle and decided to give it a try. The inside was very nice and clean. The service was great and the staff very friendly.
We ordered the Braised beef shank & tendon with noodle in spicy soup with flat noodles and chili sauce on the side for that extra spice. I really liked the soup and the beef was chunky and tender. The one thing I can say about this place is the price. To me they are a little bit pricier than most Taiwanese noodle places that I've eaten at. Maybe you're paying for the ambiance, but there are still cheaper places that have comparable or better quality. That said, I look forward to trying the new location coming to Irvine (my hood) later this month. -

There's no option for 3.5 stars, which is what this place really deserves. 4 stars would be too much. Here's why:
Those of you who ordered the noodles with only clear sauce - yeah I'm not surprised that you weren't blown away. It's just clear broth. You should have ticked off the spicy sauce(for new people, you're provided with paper + pencil to tick off your choices). The spicy sauce kicks it up and made the beef brisket flat noodles pretty amazing. The beef brisket was nice and tender, very good stuff. The size dishes(beef + cucumber wrapped in pancake) was just average.
Service is typical taiwanese noodle house stuff...servicable. The waitresses don't pretend to be nice. Don't come here expecting western-type service. When things get busy here - the girls are overwhelmed due lack of organization(immediately obvious that each girl is not assigned specific areas of the floor). Customers waiting to be seated are at the mercy of a single small taped piece of paper near the front. As with many other places such as this, you basically throw away common decency, barge to the front, and shout out your last name and how many people. If you see a big line-up...might as well just head upstairs to the food court.
Despite all that though...come here for the noodles + spicy sauce. It's good. -

Hype and expectation. Sometimes these can really ruin your experience or make you overlook the simple joy in food that is prepared well.
Before coming to Chef Hung, I had heard that this restaurant chain was the recipient of multiple Best of Taiwan awards. Having heard so much about how good the beef noodle soup was in Taiwan, I found my expectations through the roof.
First things first: this chain is located in the huge and new Aberdeen Center mall. The interior decor is clean and nice and the service, while quiet, is pretty good.
You order off a simple menu of noodle soups, snacks, and a few beverages.
We stuck with the following choices:
Champion Beef Shank, Beef Tendon, Beef Tripe with Noodles and Spicy Beef soup - at $11.95, it's definitely a very pricey bowl of noodles. Granted, most of the price is based on the reputation but I can see why many have faulted for the high price. Two pieces of beef shank, two pieces of tendon and two pieces of tripe came with my order. It wasn't particularly generous but ok. I would have preferred more tendon and shank though. The broth was clear and quite a bit more subdued than I expected. As a spicy beef broth, I found it neither particularly beefy nor spicy. The noodles were excellent. Thick and roughly cut, I thought they went perfectly with what you would want in beef noodle soup. Overall, it was a solid bowl. Not spectacular, but still good. If my expectations had been unknown or lower, I would have been impressed. Especially at a better price point.
Marinated Pig Intestines - we ordered this on a whim and were surprised by the bold flavor and how fresh the intestines tasted. I've tried some less than ideal preparations and this was nowhere like that. Frankly, I think this was the best dish here and the strong flavor was how I hoped the beef broth would be.
Taiwanese Vegetables and Oyster Sauce - nicely cut and fresh taiwanese vegetables. Asked for more oyster sauce and got some immediately. I really think the produce must be better here in Richmond. :)
Chef Hung was a good restaurant. Although I agree that the noodle soup prices are a bit insane, it is a good bowl of fresh cut noodles, although perhaps not quite as stellar as my expectations. The pig intestines were fantastic though and I suspect there are quite a few solid items on this menu. The location in Aberdeen is very nice and the decor is one that seems to be popular with working folk.
Chef Hung accepts credit cards. -

Speak Engilsh, please! You're in Vancouver, not Taiwan!
After a night of intense drinking, I wanted some noodles and soup to help get my head back together. My friend brought me here to try out the great Taiwanese beef noodle soup.
We both ordered the Champion Braised Beef soup with rice noodles. Wait wasn't too long, but when our order came out, the noodles were vermicelli instead of rice noodles. Oh well - we were both too famished to really care. Although I do have to admit, I think one of the reasons why I didn't finish was because the noodles just made it not as appetizing as I had hoped. Meh.
Anyway, back to the bowl of soup. The broth was definitely good - nice and rich and had that taste where you knew it had some authentic Taiwanese ingredient in there that made it special and unique. The actual meat pieces in the soup didn't look very appealing, but it was pretty tender. Presentation could use some work though.
Good to know that you pay in the front when you leave, cash only (I think), and you know that you're at the right place when you see that tacky robotic noodle bowl in the entrance. -
Review from Sheryl D.
All psyched by the great reviews, I sneakily hinted going for Taiwanese food to my cousin-in-law in Richmond, where we were meeting up for lunch. When her first response was "let's go to Chef Hung's", I immediately knew there's much promise in this food trip. I virtually lived along the food stalls of Taipei's night market when I was briefly exiled there to learn the language. In fact, I spent so much time price haggling and trading barbs in my haphazardly spoken, pygmy Mandarin with food stall vendors that I learned more Mandarin from them than I learned from the school I paid tuition to. I can order skewers of barbequed things eloquently but I can't for the life of me tell you how old I am or what my hobbies are in Mandarin (and I have a Chinese name in Chinese characters to boot!).
So when I heard about his famous beef noodles and the Taiwanese chicken nuggets, I was stoked. In addition to these, we ordered a braised pork dish on rice and none disappointed. Everything was pretty great, well presented in a surprisingly airy, comfortable restaurant that had clean, modern lines in decor. I still miss the traditional thin noodles from the stall vendors, almost similar to Cantonese thin egg noodles. Chef Hung had their own version that I didn't fancy too much. Other than that, it was great Taiwanese comfort food, at a higher price range than usual. My theory is parking in Aberdeen mall is like entering Dante's 7th circle of hell, so the higher price range is really for the sanctuary the restaurant provides after you (finally!) find parking. -

Someone told me that Chef Hung is super famous and his beefy noodles are awesome so if we are going to the restaurant, we better get their early because there could potentially be a lineup.
Not on a rainy Friday night.
Surprisingly, Aberdeen mall was pretty empty and at 6pm, the restaurant was about half full.
As you walk, you will see a pair of chopsticks with noodles moving up and down into a bowl of soup - quite amusing.
At $10.95, you get their champion beef brisket and noodle soup with your choice of noodles, which are made in house and you can select to have clear broth or fire chili soup. We ordered one of each.
Their beef roll is another one of their well known dishes so more beef to share!
The dishes came out very quickly and I was excited!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The beef roll was lukewarm (like it should be I heard) and it reminded me of peking duck wraps but with beef. The hoisin sauce within the roll merged all the flavours together and the beef wasn't overly salty. The wrap was soft and crunchy at the same time which made it even more enjoyable to eat.
The flat noodles in the soup were a little curly so you know they are made in house - they looked a little thick so I thought it would be too squishy, but I was quite surprised. Not too heavy and not too chewy - just right.
My clear broth was very clean and would be perfect if you were sick and needed something to sooth the throat. My brisket came in long pieces, rather than chunks, but still very tender. I wish there were more veg - there was one piece of bak choy. Meanwhile, the spicy broth had a strong taste of anise and had a different kick to it.. not hot spicy... but spices spicy... the beef brisket was in chunks this time, what I'm use to... super delish.
By the end of it, I was stuffed and there was half the beef roll for the next day. Although very authentic, the price tag is a little high. But if you like in house noodles with tender beef, it's definitely worth a trip. -

This restaurant in Aberdeen Centre, Richmond is a more casual affair.
The noodles were really good. They make it fresh right at the front for everyone to see. The meat was soft and tasty. Their menu is not large but the ones that are available was very tasty especially if you like spicy food. The store has a big chopsticks floating up and down with noodles hanging. The food is very simple- soup with noodles and beef brisket. -

Beef Noodle soup is one of the great accomplishments of the Taiwanese, but not all beef noodle restaurants are created equal. There are four basic components to beef noodle soup: the soup broth, the beef, the noodles, and the cabbage. I rate the overall quality of the soup on those 4 factors alone.
Chef Hung came as a recommendation from a friend, but I'm always a bit leary when it comes to beef noodle recommendations since there are so many disappointingly blahhh beef noodle restaurants in Burnaby, Coquitlam, Richmond and Vancouver. Though I don't rate service or atmosphere, Chef Hung was excellent in both.
To be consistent, I ordered the first beef noodle on the menu. It came fairly quickly and the overall appearance of the soup was attractive. Respecting the 4 main components, I found the soup broth to be quite good, it is a little spicy though, but I've heard there's no MSG in it (B+). The beef was unique; they included slices of rare beef and traditional stewed beef; the stewed beef was moist and fell apart in my mouth, it was definitely not too lean; the rare beef was an unexpectedly pleasant surprise (A). The noodles may be the best part of the whole soup since they were chewy and homemade; in fact you can see the cooks make the noodles behind glass alongside the foyer of the restaurant (A). The weakest part of this soup was the cabbage, since it was spicy, not sour; the manager was empathetic and said that they are always trying to improve the cabbage (C+).
Based on the 4 main components, the overall score of this soup was A-. I'll admit, that even though I don't live in Richmond, I went back the very next day to eat this soup again.Listed in: Beef Noodle Reviews

* Silent service *
Have you ever been a restaurant where the staff doesn't speak? I was greeted by the hostess with a hand gesture, and she ushered me to a table without a word.
On the table there was a menu, and a paper version of the same with little boxes to fill out.
I checked the following boxes:
- Chicken nuggets
- Braised beef shank & tendon with noodle in soup
- Flat noodles (next to the soup)
I left these unchecked next to the soup:
- Thin noodle
- Rice noodle
- Vermicelli
- Fire chili soup
I held up the checked list, as if I had finished a bubble sheet multiple choice test and gave it to a waitress for grading (cough).
Not a word uttered.
About 30 seconds later a different waitress came back with a computer printout of what I ordered written entirely in Chinese and taped it to the table without saying a word.
A few minutes later the food arrived again without a word.
The chicken nuggets came with whole fried basil leaves mixed in. They were typical Taiwanese nuggets, and had been marinated very nicely. They were slightly greasier than I normally like, but very tasty.
Here is a photo: http://www.yelp.ca/biz...
The soup was very good. The broth did not have an MSG buzz, but was well seasoned. The beef shank was extremely tender and there was a generous amount. The tendon was also cooked perfectly. The noodles were handmade and a bit odd shaped, as if they hadn't unrolled them correctly after cutting. But they were cooked perfectly to the right chew and were tasty. The veggies were all crisp and not overcooked. They also gave a side of Taiwanese pickles to add to your flavour comfort, which were nicely flavoured and rounded out the broth. Overall a very nice soup! Here is the photo: http://www.yelp.ca/biz...
When I was finished I picked up the computer printout and brought it to the front register where they converted it to a bill and didn't say a word.
I paid, again without a word.
As I was leaving about 3 staff all said loudly, "Thank you." and I realized they can talk!!!! Wow! -

For those of you who did not grow up in Taiwan like I did. Taiwanese Beef Noodle Soup for Asians is like Marconi and cheese for North Americans. Its the ultimate comfort food. I know when I see it on the menu anywhere, I will order a bowl regardless of what else I order off the menu.
What makes or breaks this dish for me is two things: 1. The noodles 2. The broth.
Most places get one of the two right, which makes it a OK bowl. But sometimes when the stars align, I will stumble upon a bowl of pure magic. It's like in the Disney movie "Ratatouille" when Anton Ego bites into the plate of ratatouille and it transports him back to his childhood and warms him from the inside out. This is a simple peasant dish with simple ingredients, which sometime is the toughest dish to get right.
1. The noodles: Get the thick Taiwanese noodles which have the best texture and taste. I can tell it is definitely homemade, and it is NOT over cooked. This sounds like a simple thing but you'll be surprised how many people get it SOOO wrong.
2. The broth: great flavor and NO MSG...which is rare because like I mentioned before, it is a simple dish so people cheat by putting flavor enhancers instead of using quality ingredients. The beef shank is sooo tender and moist, the chucks basically melts in your mouth. They also put a few thin slices of rare beef at the last which gets cooked by the hot broth to medium/ medium rare when the bowl hits your table.
The lone bok choy in the soup and the small dish of pickle cabbage on the side works as a palate cleanser in between bites of beef and slurps of broth.
So why not 5 stars? The only thing I am nick picking on is the price, like I mentioned before, this is suppose to be a simple peasant dish, which means it is suppose to be cheap. Not $11 a bowl. I would have given it 5 stars if it is $8 or less. Granted, the service is Uber fast and friendly, even by Chinese standards. So I will be back, because after all, it is still cheaper than flying back to Taipei to get a bowl. -

So many of us Asian Seattlites come up to Vancouver for the excellent food. This place is one of them. They have the best TW beef noodle I've had in the PNW! My Vancouver friend introduced me to this place.
I had the champion braised beef shank, tendon, and tripe with noodle and it was excellent. The broth was clear and tasty, noodles firm and chewy, and meats tender and flavorful. Both my friend and sister enjoyed their soup. We also ordered the shaved ice and it was done differently than I am used to. The ice was shaved very thin and flavorful and creamy!
The service was a bit slow, especially considering the restaurant was not busy. Don't be afraid to holler. Nice that its conveniently located in Aberdeen Center and their HST buster special makes it all the better! -
Review from Annie W.
My brother introduced me to this restaurant last week. This is a pretty good place to have noodles. But at first, I didn't think much about this place and anticipated the usual noodles I can get any where else. It almost seemed so too! When my noodles arrived, it did not look very impressive. To be honest, the meat looked dry. And this just proves that one cannot judge from just looks. The meat was actually very tender despite their appearance. The soup was very tasty and not over powering and the noodles were just the right amount of chewiness and cooked just right.
The portions were large, despite not ordering the larger sizes.
I also ordered their house special bubble tea..I would skip on this though. It was too watered down for me. Maybe try one of the other ones? -

Best beef noodle soup thus far! I got the Champion braised beef shank tendon & tripe with noodle in spicy soup, with the "fire" add-on, which is basically Ma-La. It came with a small side of pickled veg, which served as the perfect compliment to the spicy broth. The thick, handmade noodles provide the perfect amount of chewiness. The beef shank, tendon, and tripe are all braised to perfection. PERFECT PERFECT PERFECT!
We also got two side dishes - the spicy beef tendons and the pan fried grounded beef cake. The beef tendons were thinly sliced and served cold. Sooo good! The pan fried beef cake was wonderful as well. The dish came with two cakes and each had a generous amount of filling inside; it could've counted as an adequately sized cheeseburger :) The filling was made of beef, chives, and a small amount of water chestnuts inside. The water chestnuts were a welcome surprise as it provided a nice contrasting texture.
And OMG the house special milk tea. If I could only drink one beverage for the rest of my life, this could possibly be my choice. The tea that they use to make it is probably what makes this milk tea so insanely awesome. That's all I can say.

This was our last Canadian meal and this place exceeded our expectations. We ordered the small bites: pickled cucumber, jelly fish, and beef plate. The jelly fish was a little underseasoned, but I made my own little chili vinegar sauce and all was good. We also ordered the wrapped beef rolls (they were ok, not great).
However, the real star was the noodle soup. The noodles, I believe are homemade and had a nice chew and bite; we got the flat wide noodles. The broth had a rich deep made with love flavour and was not oily at all. The beef shank pieces were tender, flavourful, and moist; each piece is hand selected by one of the chefs, so you don't get any gnarly pieces. One bowl is enough to share for two if you want any other sides, but if you're there just for the noodles, one bowl will certainly fill you up! I can't wait to come back!! -

I love hand-made noodles because they're nice and chewy. They seem to cater to everyone's taste here - you get to pick which noodle bowl dish you want, the type of noodle, and spicy or not spicy. Their beef pancake roll is also good (and big).

Pretty darn good Taiwanese beef noodle. Even the zha jiang mian, which is more of a Northern dish, was meaty and delightful. All the noodles were chewy, not mushy. However, noodle dishes here are priced like Japanese ramen. And side dishes are meager for their costs.
Let the animatronic bowl of noodles at the storefront lure you right in. -

Chewy home made noodles... that's all you have to say and I'm sold. As soon as you walk in you see the kitchen on the left hand side where all the yummy goodness is made.
This place isn't cheap but if you want legitly good Taiwanese style beef noodles with a choice of thick or thin noodles you've found the place. If you crave spiciness make sure to speak up though since my only complaint is that I found it to be more mild than I'm use to.Listed in: Vancouver's Best

Yummy!
On a cold winter's day it definitely hits the spot. Came here with my mom and my brother and we got the marinated pig ears for an appetizer, and then my brother and I both got the champion beef shank/tendon/tripe with noodles, and my mom had the zha zhang mian. Everything was really tasty. They also appear to make their own noodles here, yum! -

Not bad at all....noodles were nice and chewy in all the dishes....but word of advice...don't order the ja-ja-myun....ng! Would potentially come again but not sure yet if I would crave this place.
Establishment was clean...service was very good. Food also served very quickly! -

Came here for the third time. This time to celebrate a friend's birthday who we haven't seen for quite some time. All three times I have been very satisfied overall. I didn't have to wait for a table all three times that I went.
Service is great.
Our tea is always filled. Servers are attentive. Barely any wait time for the food to reach our table. And the food is always nice and warm or hot.
* Braised beef shank with noodle in spicy soup is awesome. I had this with the thick noodles (hand made noodles, awesome) and regular broth. Good portion size. Other noodle choices are thin noodles, vermicelli, and rice noodles. There's an option for "fire chili soup" base for the fire eaters.
* Champignon beef shank with noodle in spicy soup is pretty much the same as the above, but with 3 more slices of beef for $10.95.
* Marinated beef wrapped in crispy pancake and Shredded pork (some would call it pork floss) and egg wrapped in crispy pancake are both pretty good. Both comes with 2 rolls cut to 8 pieces.
* Pan-fried crispy pancake with green onion was average. Comes with 2 pancakes cut in half.
* Marinated pig intestine is very good. Normally, these would have a strong garlic after taste. But these have a mild garlic flavor. Hence, no strong garlic after taste.
* Pan fried grounded pork cake and Pan fried sliced radish cake are alright. Dense and heavy. Eating these would fill you up. Both comes with 2 patties cut in half.
There's an order sheet in each table. You just need to tick off what you want and give it to the server.
Parking in Aberdeen Center is a hit and miss. It depends when and what time you go. Be prepared to deal with Richmond drivers.

I've been to Chef Hung's way more than a handful of times now, and I appreciate their consistently great food and service. Hands down, the best beef noodle soup in Vancouver/Richmond.
And like every great Taiwanese beef noodle place in Taiwan, Chef Hung's also gives you complimentary broth refills. What's not to love?1 Previous Review: Show all »

This place brings me back to Taipei!
Really like this place...reminds me of my trip to Taiwan. Noodles are great; nice and chewy, but not tough. The meat is delicious and so is the soup.
Definitely a fan of this place. Thank You Yelpers!
NOTE: There is a private room in the back that you can rent if you need privacy for a lunch/dinner party.
NOTE 2: Chef Hung is on the second floor inside Aberdeen. -

Mmmm I can never get enough of Taiwanese food.
This place is within Aberdeen Center, and it's more upscale than other Taiwanese restaurants.
There was a line up to this place, which was a first for me for a Taiwanese restaurant. I was able to take a look at their menu while I was waiting.
Compromising of many traditional Taiwanese side dishes, snacks (including dumplings, pork cake, radish cake, green onion pancake....), their famous noodles in all different choices, as well as a selection of flavoured milk teas and hot teas.
Food Selection:
cold mixed bean curd
braised beef shank, tendon, and tripe with noodles
pan fried radish cake
shrimp & pork dumplings
shredded soft dried pork and egg wrapped in crispy pan cake
Everything came quickly and presented nicely. The radish cake was great-not oily and fresh thinly sliced pieces of daikon. Next, the shrimp dumplings. They were 6 large pieces, and it was in a clear broth which was very refreshing.
The beef noodles was a large bowl of noodles, and I was able to get it with the handmade thick cut noodles. Soup base was ok, not salty and no MSG at all. The beef shank, tendon and tripe were all tender and flavourful. Noodles were chewy, just the way I like it.
Lastly, my favourite of all the dishes, shredded soft dried pork and egg wrapped in crispy pan cake. The crispy pan cake was perfectly crisp, and thin layer of egg, all wrapped together with shredded dried pork. Each bite consisted of a bit of each ingredient, so good!
Prices include HST so in a sense the prices are very reasonable.
Come here and try it, it's worth the wait.Listed in: Noodle-ing., Exploring Aberdeen.

The cleanest and one of the best Taiwanese beef noodle places. I prefer the spicy soup base (it has szechuan peppercorns in it..). Their Taiwanese meatsauce rice was the most amazing I had one time I went and good but not amazing the second time I had it. Their beef rolls (beef, green onion, cucumber, hoisin wrapped in a panfried bread) are a bit on the dry side but probably the best vancouver has to offer. They add cucumber which gives it a touch of freshness.

Review from Kathy C.
Our party of six really enjoyed our meal at Chef Hung Taiwanese Beef Noodle. We were hungry and deciding whether to go to the food court where everyone just do their own things, or try the full service restaurant. Given that this place received really good reviews and we were a bit tired, we decided to spend a little extra to try this place.
We were not disappointed. First of all, it is expected that if it is a full service and a nicely decorated restaurant, that the prices will be a bit more. The service was prompt and friendly enough (for a Chinese restaurant). The food came out fairly fast and very tasty. We tried the spicy beef noodle broth, the tomato based broth, and a variety of other dishes like pork chop over rice, pan fried raddish cake, pan fried beef cake, dried tofu etc. I personally enjoyed the pan fried raddish cake the most. The spicy beef broth with beef shank, tripe and tendon was really good too.
