There are more than enough positive reviews about Cheesecake Etc. for me to write anything original so to avoid being redundant, I'll just summarize why you should come here.

It's a great place for late night dessert (i.e. cheesecake etc..) though you might face a line-up on the weekends. It's great for dates and great for conversing. Occasionally there'd be a live piano player and the staff are all polite. Parking is available along the street and side streets but given the hour, you may have to feed the meter. I should also mention that since their renovations, Cheesecake Etc. is even more spacious and accommodating.

Oh, and you should definitely try their cheesecakes. Take my word for it.

My friends were super excited to come here after a comedy show. It was my first time here and I expected great things, however, I was not impressed in the slightest.

If you call your shop Cheesecake Etc, I would expect more than two types of cheesecake: original or chocolate. The only way they mix it up is by the different fruit toppings. The slices are a decent size, but they are drenched in syrupy fruit toppings and garnished with an unappealing blob of whipped cream. I found the cheesecake to be too fluffy for my liking.

I only ordered a hot chocolate because I knew I would just be eating off my friends' plates. Basic hot chocolate, nothing fancy. My friend had hot water with lemon and honey: they unceremoniously plop the whole bottle of honey on your table.

The bill was brought to us 5 minutes after we received our cheesecake, but we were told it's not to rush us out, it's because "they like to give the bills quickly."

The "4 person booth" was certainly a tight squeeze. Cash or debit only.

    I will not be returning.

    What happened to this place?!
Just a year ago this place was a magnificent girls date/romantic spot.

Cakes creamy and light, melting the moment I take a bite, servers so nice and friendly, cozy ambience, prices a bit high but worth the romantic atmosphere, etc.

Now I bring my boyfriend and the servers are ignorant (there were only about five other parties), chilly interior, the bill thrown at us 5 minutes after our cakes come out, and the price--wow, sure went up but the quality (and quantity) came down: over $15 for 2 pieces?! (and the pieces became smaller.. But the amount of whipped cream doubled--uh, lol?)

And worst of all--the cake!!! Crumbly and "bready!" I can make a similar cake at home... I always came for the creamy, "fork-going-right-thru-the-cake" sensation, but if it's "cake-crumbling-down-as-the-fork-cuts-thru" now, ah... Sorry Cheesecake, etc: you're off my list.

The best cheesecake dessert in Vancouver 20-30 years ago......  I haven't return to this place for so many years. All of us were missing those days, we went back to try that again.

The menu was the same!!  Only 2 flavours of cheesecake!!

The cheesecakes were moist but not as good as before.  May be Vancouver has too many good desserts places now.

The jazz live music still start after 9pm

I have never gone out for dessert alone, so this was all new to me. The place has a very musty old smell to it, its very dark, and tables are close to one another. The cheesecake its good, but not anything special. Again ive had some delish cheesecake in my time and since its my choice of dessert im very picky. I wish it was a bit richer. I had  their home made hot chocolate, now ive always made my hot chocolate with milk for that creamy rich taste. Theirs is made with water and not frothy very watered down. Overall its OK, nothing over the top but if you want to have late night dessert on a date, hit it up. Its perfect for that :)

The last 2 times I visited Cheesecake Etc. to get take-out, the cake has come home frozen. Yup, FROZEN. Essentially not edible. Yesterday's pear and chocolate was thin on the chocolate and after trying to get through the cake with a knife and fork with little luck I just gave up. Next time I'll just get a full cheesecake for the same price at a grocery store...I am saddened that the product has taken such a dive.

They have a nice ambiance. The place is dimly lit with lots of portraits of jazz musicians. Its relaxing to have a cup of tea and share a piece of cheesecake.

The cheesecake itself isn't something to write mom home about. It's on the lighter side, fluffy with a heap of whipped cream on top. The good news is the whipped cream isn't all that sweet or strong....good touch.

The prices are reasonable. The service is below average and quite the unfriendly bunch. I'm glad it didn't affect me all that much.

This is a fun place to come and have a little dessert after a night out downtown, or just to relax and take in your day.

Reasonably tasty cheesecakes, non-extortionate prices, they try hard on atmosphere (love the live music), but -- both times I've been -- easily the worst dining service experiences of my life. Waitstaff were impossible to flag down and were juggling the orders all wrong; plates were being sent to the wrong tables. I don't know, should it take half an hour to bring a slice of cheesecake out? Probably not, right? Plus, tons of big giggling groups of students on a night out.

Ultimately just not that special. It's a unique concept, but if you had up to Broadway and grab the matcha creme brulee at Suika you won't be disappointed (and you'll find a better drink selection).

I came here with a group of friends on a Monday evening.  We were searching for dessert and this was the first search result using the Yelp app in our neighborhood.  This dessert place is huge, and has two sides.  One side is dimly lit, and the other side is a bit brighter.  We were seated at a table near the front of the dimly lit area.  There are other things on the menu, but we came for the cheesecake.  My fiance and I ordered the chocolate cheesecake, another couple shared the original cheesecake with strawberry, and another friend had the original cheesecake.  The first waiter brought as a round of water, which was much appreciated.  The waitress who brought us our cheesecakes clearly did not enjoy her job.  She was very deadpan, unenthusiastic, and just said "chocolate" "strawberry" "original".  Umm, way to get us excited for the cheesecake.

The cheesecakes are fantastic!  I'm not a fan of heavy desserts, or cheesecake now that I think about it, but these cheesecakes were really light and fluffy.  This place makes their own whipped cream in house, and it's also very light and fluffy.  I really enjoyed it, and would come back here again.  If you like chocolate, definitely get the chocolate cheesecake.  It's very flavorful, so I don't feel the extra chocolate sauce is necessary unless you're a severe chocoholic.

I am deducting two stars, one for the severely unenthusiastic waitress, and another because we had to wait in a line to pay our bill with cash (no credit or debit here!).  Come for the cheesecake, not for the service.

Cheesecake is decent, even though I prefer it New York style/even cheesier. Atmosphere is nice (cozy, dim, live music etc), and the service is okay.

Been coming here for a few years now, but decided to try the trifle for the first time recently...and I actually kind of enjoyed it! My only gripe with the trifles were that they didn't seem very consistent. Everyone at my table ordered it and some people had more sponge cake (moi) and no strawberry, while others more strawberries and only a little sponge cake. Some had almost none of both, and just mousse.

So Cheesecake Etc., please even out the mousse to strawberry to sponge cake ratio! I think this can be much better!

One of my favourite things about this cafe is that it's open EVERY night until 1am (and yes I realize that 1am isn't even THAT late, but this is Vancouver). They keep the lighting dim here with candles on every table and the menu is really simple - cheesecake either original or chocolate/either with or without strawberries, and it always comes with whipped cream. Their homemade hot chocolate also comes with whipped cream as well, it's a little on the sweet side but I usually end up getting it anyway - can't resist late night hot chocolate!

This place has changed a lot since I came here in 2009. The place has been renovated to increase in size, and there was a GRAND PIANO in  the middle of the cafe. The cafe has now become dimmer when I first came into the establishment in 2009. The place still plays jazz music, which I adore a lot. The changes were for the better of the cafe and it made it more awesome, for sure!

Lets talk about the food. The usual cheese cake is served here, but the only thing I like about this specific cheese cake is that the inner cheese cake is nice and soft. The fluffiness of the cheese cake makes my mouth water a lot. I seem to like that style because it has the special creaminess in it. There could be some people who don't like it, of course.

My friend ordered this weird Trifle, and it really looks like poop. I will only deduct marks for their cup full of poop. I believe if they have seen all the reviews now on Yelp, they should take it off their menu. The cup really wasn't that special at all. I think they should just change it to something else.

The other mark I will deduct upon is the service. The waitress was VERY snappy and very very rude when we were about to pay. I had no idea when you wanted money you had to be rude to the customers.... Just wow, I never had such a... Wow.. I was just speechless...

Having credit card would be a better service as well, rarely a lot of people use debit because of fraud, and cash is just not safe. Using a credit card is better.

I love the atmosphere as it is very romantic, and I will come back here often with my BF, and have a good romantic date. Only if the jazz nights were more common, and I will be returning, just not for the poop.

Light, fluffy, and moist cheesecake. Dim, Paris-jazz-joint aesthetic. Generally sullen hipster servers. Years back I ordered their cheesecake trifle. At the time it was served in a tall thin class and had discernible layers of sponge cake, cheesecake, strawberries, and whip cream. Now however, the trifle is served in a wider, shallower glass and its a nearly homogeneous mixture of whip cream, chocolate cheesecake, and sponge cake. And I do mean homogeneous. There are NO layers. They should rename it the "Cheesecake Mud Pie".

I'd recommend Cheesecake Etc. for a fun dessert with some friends after a movie or dinner. I'm not sure it's a place I'd take grandma though.

First time having Cheesecake!  Wait...  In a dim atmospheric Jazz Piano Bar.  It was so dimly lit that my Cheesecake Trifle had just enough light on it so it didn't look completely like Poop.  It was quite Moussey but not something I would go back again...

Cheesecake was definitely the winner quite light & fluffy unlike the NY style dense & crumbly variety.  I am somewhat bias in prefering this style since most Cheesecakes I've had anywhere are the dense gummy texture that takes more work to eat.

I'm not so sure if a Jazz Piano Bar reminds me of a Cheesecake place.  I originally thought of this place more of a Fine Dining Cajun New Orleans spot just walking inside.  While it might not be the spot for me, it was however a perfect spot for couples which amazes me that it's not much more popular of a Dessert spot for after dinner.

When we headed up to Vancouver, B.C. for the Vancouver half-marathon the weekend of May 1, we planned part of our trip around where to eat. My husband had heard good things about Cheesecake Etc, so we went up after 7pm on Saturday, April 30.

We were one of the first ones there that evening. There was no live jazz or anything. We sat near a window due to the low lighting. Service was a little slow to come take our orders considering our only decision was original or chocolate cheesecake and no topping, strawberries, or chocolate. We all decided on our choices quickly.

The four of us had: Original with Strawberries, Original with Chocolate, Chocolate with Chocolate, and Chocolate with Strawberries. All of them were delicious! The chocolate with chocolate was super rich and no one could finish that one. The cheesecake is very creamy and not like a standard cheesecake. It is something special. I recommend a trip there with your significant other or family as long as it is not past the kids bedtime.

2 flavours of cheesecake isn't exactly a cheesecake dessert place. A plain cheesecake with strawberry sauce or a chocolate one with strawberry sauce. Extra for chocolate sauce. Comes with whipped cream. A LOT of it. It basically is smothered in whipped cream.

Normally I don't mind whipped cream, but there was actually more whipped cream than cheesecake here. The cake itself was nothing too special, and I think some store bought ones might even be better. I was disappointed.

They also serve coffees and teas, as well as juices to accompany your dessert.

Service here is bad. The girls are acting as though they really don't want to work there, hence ignored us a couple of times. No smiles, no greeting.

There is live piano music though, and I think I enjoyed that more than my cake. A dim room, good atmosphere, but not so great desserts.

Pay up front at the cashier, cash only.

A bad experience. I've come here about four times over the last 30 years, so I'm no regular, but something has changed.  Yes it's bigger, but the place was still packed and a lineup at the door... must be good, right?

The cheescake was not its usual fluffiness -- it was dense and hard. A "just came out of the freezer" taste. The sauces were decent -- somewhere between homemade and frozen fruit sauce from the grocery store. My wife made the mistake of ordering the cheesecake trifle (crazy, I know) and it was a disgusting purée of original and chocolate cheescake -- sort of like a cheesecake pudding.  Isn't trifle supposed to have layers.  Horrid.

Service was fairly slow to arrive. Too busy, I guess.

The ambiance was very dark which did a good job of hiding a very dirty, threadbare carpet. No music or atmosphere, I'm afraid.

I think this ends my visits to this restaurant which started a long time ago in a different time when late-night restaurants were hard to find.

I've been going to Cheesecake etc since 1998 and it's still my favourite cheesecake hands down, the cheesecake I compare all other cheesecakes to.

It's a lighter cheesecake, with no crust. The options are plain, chocolate, and they usually have a special. And the toppings are strawberries or chocolate sauce, oh and whipped cream.

I usually have plain with strawberries and whipped cream but I've had the chocolate as well and it is delicious.

If you're looking for a cheesecake factory type place w loads of different cheesecakes then this may not be the place for you. Cheesecake etc, is just simple cheesecake done really well. No candy flavours or factory made frozen cheesecakes thawed out when ordered.

The light, fluffy texture suggests a pretty freshly made cheesecake.

They also have a selection of coffees and teas, and a piano bar so it's a great late night hang out.

Things to note, they don't open until later in the evening, and they only take cash.

I've been out of Vancouver for awhile but when I was last there in Sept 2010 it looked like they had expanded which is great because we didn't have to wait to be seated.

This is one of those little hidden gems that I worry about posting here for fear that too many people might find out about it.  Ah, well.  Consider it a gift, everyone.

The owners are a married couple who spent years travelling around the best jazz joints in the world.  They took everything they loved about that experience and combined it with their secret family cheesecake recipe to create Cheesecake Etc.  You can really feel (and taste) the heart and soul they have poured into the place.

Cheesecake Etc. is a perfect date spot.  It is dimly lit with candles at every table.  The ambiance is complemented by the soft jazz music that ubiquitously plays in the background.  I'm not exactly what you call "the romantic type" but even I melt in this kind of place.

And then there is the cheesecake.  Bear in mind that I've never been hugely into cheesecake.  Generally, I find it too rich.  But this cheesecake is different.  It is light and fluffy and delectably topped by a variety of sauces and garnishes, from which patrons can choose.  My BF, who is a cheesecake freak, says it's the best cheesecake he's ever had.  We usually split whatever happens to be their feature of the day and have never been disappointed.

A word of advice: Whatever you order, be sure to eat it slowly.  Savour the tastes and textures of your cheesecake.  Enjoy the music.  Feed a couple of bites to your date (if you're on one). Have an intimate conversation in the cozy atmosphere.  Let the experience linger.  This is the way to truly appreciate and enjoy what Cheesecake Etc. has to offer.

Based on a friend's recommendation, we went here for dessert last night. I find this odd, but they have two locations, side by side. They serve the same stuff, just one has dark lighting, the other has bright lighting. We chose the bright. I'm sure the dark is more appropriate for a romantic occasion.

Upon entering, it has a cool vibe with the big piano and antique tables. I ordered the plain cheesecake with strawberry topping and fresh whip cream. To be honest there was nothing special about it. The strawberry and sauce tasted like it came from a can. Actually come to think of it the quality and taste is identical that you can find on BC Ferries.

With its lack of variety and just OK taste, I don't think I'll be returning.

I've been wanting to try this place for a long while now as the hordes milling about outside in the evenings made me curious. So, while my brother was in town, we decided to check it out. Yawn.

Two flavours. TWO flavours? What's that all about? Two toppings from which to choose - strawberries or chocolate sauce. Oh, how is a girl to choose?

The cheesecake was fine (I chose vanilla with strawberries). No crust, just cheesecake which was fresh and fluffy. The portion was not extravagant just... average sized. The cappuccino we had with it, adequately smooth and non-memorable.

That's it. Fine. Not horrible. Average.

The atmosphere was nice-ish. There was a grand piano in the centre of the establishment that a fellow was playing average jazz on and the tables were candlelit . Perhaps that's the draw - cheesecake and romance. Average romance. No linens or flowers. Just typical cafe table and chair sets organized in typical fashion.

Meh. I really have experienced better.

Some of the best cheesecake. I got my friend hooked on this place, who got his friend hooked on it too. It's soooo light an fluffy you can't even tell you're eating a cheesecake (in the dense sense where it feels like you overindulged).  I mean, all they do is cheesecake, so it better be good. And it is!

But don't expect anything fancy like the Cheesecake Factory in the States. It's basic. White chocolate cheesecake (or plain?) and Chocolate Cheesecake. And they usually have one on special. When I went last it was chocolate peanut butter. Then you can choose toppings, like fresh strawberries.

The atmosphere was OK...dark and dim.  They had teh live jazz band there but not too romantic at all.   I guess people were talking so LOUD there.  The service was pretty slow.

Overpriced cheese cake that tastes okay, although, seriously, I don't see why there should be any hype. I particularly don't understand why this place seems to be wildly popular with (almost only) Asian customers. What really takes the cake (yay for puns!) in terms of unworthiness is the watery, tasteless coffee.

First off -- after you try the cheesecake, you won't need to try the etc. Rich, creamy and tasty -- if I take away a star it would be for the strawberries, which are similar to any old diner strawberry sauce.  This has an appeal of course, as a comforting nostalgic taste...

The "etc" for me was the surprise performance of live piano jazz played, I think, by the owner.  The couple who run Cheesecake etc are former jazz players through Europe and America.  They decided to settle in Vancouver and start the business. The jazz bar ambiance is indelible.

It's a simple place, good at what it does and with a very friendly atmosphere.  I will go again.

I feel like almost mean for giving it 3 stars but it has to be done. And the reason is everything except quality.

What I absolutely love about this place is the cheesecake. I'm one of those people who are getting old and don't know why kids like so much sugar nowadays. I, of course, say this while I completely ignore the fact that I used to eat orange concentrate straight out of the can when I was a kid. And this place does it perfectly. I got the chocolate cheesecake with strawberries and whip cream. What brought a little happy tear to the corner of my eye was the fact that none of the above, and no combination of the above was too sickly sweet. There didn't appear to be any sugar in the whip cream, and not much at all in the strawberries. Even the cheesecake wasn't heavy or too sweat. Which is a bit of bad news because you can wolf it down really easily. But I did love it. It was reeeaaallllyyyy good.

My main beef for not giving it more stars is the selections. It's nil. As mentioned before you pretty much have like 2 options, its good, but you have 2 options. And for those of you who LOVE the graham cracker crumb on the bottom, don't bother looking, it ain't there.

Also, it might be weird of me but I didn't like the atmosphere. Maybe it was being so close to the bridge, maybe because I went at an off time of day. The place just didn't feel that inviting. We ate. We paid. We left. It felt a little scandalous, illegal even. Not even a cuddling after...

But in the end, they do what they do very well, which is basic cheesecake. So take your mom there. She'll love it. Just give her a hug when you leave.

I have some level of expectation when the name of the place is fronted by the word "Cheesecake" but basically has only two cheesecakes - cheesecake and chocolate cheesecake which are then offered with or without strawberries.

    Yes, they are freshly baked.

No, there isn't much of a selection.

They crank out basic light and fluffy cheesecakes and pour their toppings on it rather than in it. Which is fine if I was making it myself. It's the same as calling a place "Bread Etc" and then simply cranking out white bread or wheat bread rather than offering a wide selection with baked-in ingredients typically offered in, say a Focaccia or a Ciabatta.

My point is...where are the Cookies and Cream, Lemon, Dulce De Leche, Coffee, Mocha, White Chocolate, Green Tea, Stilton or even Blueberry cheesecakes? And I'm not talking about making one kind of cheesecake masked with toppings. I'm talking about incorporating the flavours.

If this was called "Food Etc" and they happen to bake their own cheesecake with toppings, I'll give them props.

Another star for having a good selection of Et Ceteras to complement the two basic cheesecakes.

I'd honestly just head to Trees Organic which by the way offers a good selection of cheesecakes.

Working just up the street from Cheesecake Etc, I've gotten to know the owners over the years. They're very generous and quick to donate gift certificates for various fundraisers we've had.

Everytime I walk by I think "jeez, they really need to change that sign" since it seems so dark and dated and above all, easy to miss. What I keep forgetting is that they don't need any flashy signage or convenient hours. They get a packed house almost every night without even trying.

An old fashioned mom and pop shop to the very core, Cheesecake Etc exudes the nostalgic, homey feel of traditional, simple, old-fashioned cheesecake.

Yes, they only have two types of cheesecake, a few teas and coffees, and yummy french bread, but I also know for a fact that they bake 35 cheesecakes daily by hand. Not bad for octogenarians, am I right?

Moreover, the cheesecakes are light, not overly sweet and delicious, the bread is crusty and warm, and the coffees/teas/cider are piping hot. So what they do do, they do well, and I'm a quality over quantity kinda gal.

If you're lucky, maybe Michael will be crooning at the piano while you enjoy a light and creamy slice of heaven with strawberry topping.  It's celebrating 30 years this year, so cake is in order.

This place has a lot of charm and we had the great opportunity of meeting the owners--such sweet and hospitable types!   There are two sides to this place, the primary side with its dark and romantic café feel and the "overflow" side which is a bit more lighted and airy.

    I adore this place.

Haven't been here for years though? So my memory is a bit fuzzy. It's tiny. And it only accepts cash (has it changed over the years?), anyways. It's dimly lit, super cozy and romantic, sometimes has live music. The cheesecake is amazing. Something about the aura? Or whatever it is leaves me with a sense of nostalgia. Plus I love cheese.

I got intro'd to this place several years ago, and it has yet to fail me. I try to go every time I "go home".

First visit = cheesecake w/ crust?  wtf is that?! really?!

Second visit = omg it's still SO GOOD

Third visit = damn, where is this place?!

Yes, it IS THAT GOOD, it's consistent, and if you went over the bridge, you went too far.

I think on the 2nd visit, we had some newbies with us and they noted that they'd take someone on a date there. I could see that as it is rather dark inside and rustic-romantic in a way. I concur with the notion that this isn't Cheesecake Factory, but that's a good thing. A cheesecake that is good enough to have no crust is pretty damn good cheesecake. It's not too sweet or heavy, yet your mouth will be in heaven.

Oh yeah, it's a small place, but we've managed to have a group of 8 (incl a toddler) on the weekend once. I think we got lucky, but I wouldn't really recommend doing that on a regular basis.

MAN I wish I could afford to go...(sigh)

This dark little cheesecake place is easily missed due to it's tiny nature as well as it's location at the base of the Granville bridge.

Their cheesecake is made fresh on premise and is pretty much the draw here and only thing I've had. It's definitely a place to put on the after dinner list for dessert.

My favourite is getting it with the fresh berries and a nice hot cup of earl grey & honey.

On occasion they also squeeze in a live performer into the already cramped space, but that makes it super cozy and enjoyable. At least for me.

Last food stop before leaving Vancouver was getting cheesecake which typically I just tolerate, however the cheesecake here was perfect.

We arrived around 9PM on a Sunday and the place was bustling with people and music (live piano). Beyond cheesecakes the menu includes drinks and one or two other deserts, but the emphasis is primarily on the cheesecake. I ended up splitting the chocolate(!) cheesecake with my brother. The cheesecake also comes with real cream which was given to me on the side in a large glass as I was the only one eating it. Compared to most other places the cheesecake is lighter and more mousse-like which I personally prefer.

Overall great atmosphere (candlelights, music) and great cheesecake.

The cheesecake from this place is divine!  It's light and fluffy, just the way I like it. If you prefer new york style cheesecake that you can stand a fork in, then this might not be for you. They really don't have many flavours either (it's totally no like Cheesecake Cafe or Cheesecake Factory). I believe they only have vanilla or chocolate. But don't underestimate these flavours as being boring. This is actually some of the best cheesecake I've had.

I usually get the cheesecake for take-out so I can't really comment on the service of this place. But I definitely crave their cheesecake and can't wait to be in town again to go and get some.

Very nice atmosphere to go with friends. A bit pricey for what they offer & nothing really unique in their menu. Definitely not a place I would go out of my way to visit.

I'm not normally a cheesecake fan, in fact this is the only cheesecake I eat. Its a light, creamy and melt-in-your mouth goodness without being overly cheesy. I stick to the original with strawberry sauce, I've tried chocolate but keep coming back for the original. If its too busy here, just go next door to Tigers they serve the same thing.
