Warning folks, I know that Yelp says it's open at 10:00A but their hours have changed and it's open now at 10:30A. I was dead set on coming here to get goodies for my weekly co-worker bread & cheese luncheon, so like a lost pup waiting for its masters' return, I waited forlornly in front of their shop for 30 minutes. Plus, I would be dead if I showed up to work with only bread & vegetables.
But I have to say, I love, love, LOVE this place! Great selection, great prices, and excellent service! Not only did the man at the counter let me sample the cheeses I was interested in purchasing but he was knowledgeable and made sure I had just enough for my party of 8. They also have delicious deli meats and chocolate hazelnut pirouettes!! Yum!
In total, I got 8 different cheeses (all delicious!), 1 hummus, 1 tabouleh salad, 1 spinach dip, 1/2lb of salami, 1/2lb of proscuitto and a pack of flat bread crackers for $51! I've hosted bread & cheese spreads many times and I guarantee that for everything you get it's a STEAL!
I'm a big fan of supporting local businesses and it's no wonder people love them. The man at the counter was incredibly helpful and friendly and I hope to be coming back soon to try their sandwiches. Till then, Cheese Boutique. -

Brian (the owner?) was super helpful. Even with a line and other customers behind me, he was super attentive to my presence and questions. I tried quite a few cheeses. He even threw in some very good recommendations. He's such a sweetheart and so knowledgeable. We ended up getting a turkey and salami sandwich with bleu cheese. On top of that we ordered 1/8lb of the derby, 1/4lb mushroom brie (LOVED it), 1/4lb of some bleu cheese (second close, delicious as well), and I believe as per recommended 1/4lb of some type of gouda. Crackers on the side. and then some salami...not just any salami...spicy salami. It had me wanting more after the first bite. The spicy kick, is not like anything else I've ever tasted on salami. I will definitely be returning. Prices are very affordable compared to other cheese shops.
Grab some before you picnic at Golden Gate park or Dolores Park. No doubt, about it, I will be back for more. There's plenty of other cheeses I'm dying to try.
I even woke up this morning and texted my buddy I was craving cheese and salami. True story. -
Review from Todd C.
This place makes me go all Molly Bloom (and yes I said yes I will Yes), they're so wonderful here and nice and fantastic and helpful, and it's how it *should* be, I'll say it, I'll be prescriptive, this honestly is how any and every shopping experience *should* be, if only we lived in a world where people didn't hate what they did, or hate you for making them do it, or in the alternative just need to plainly exert their temporary power over you because they feel so degraded serving something to you, feel that anything service-oriented is degrading, beneath them, this is what our culture has done to this quondam artful profession, I'm looking at you, Bay area coffee and cocktail bars. Which is sad, considering service industry jobs are pretty much the only ones left in this country....
But I DIGRESS. Point being, the Inner Sunset Cheese Boutique has a more than adequate selection of cheeses, more than enough to maintain the five-start status occasioned by the absolute goddam most satisfyingly friendly customer service I've experienced this side of the Great Plains. Go here. Talk to them. Buy some cheese to ensure places like this stay alive in tomorrow's America. Go back. -

Great little neighborhood gem. If I lived in this area, this would be a go-to for me, for sure! My boyfriend and I decided to spend the afternoon at the park and popped into Cheese Boutique to grab sandwiches for a picnic. Their cheese selection is great, their sandwiches are solid and their pricing is remarkable. We walked out with two sandwiches and dolmas for under $14. Cheese Plus, near us in Nob Hill, is our go-to for delicious sandwiches (and they ARE delicious), but it's rare that we walk out of there with a bill under $20. We were both super impressed with the pricing, the service and the other goodies they offer here (hummus, tabouleh, dolmas, etc.; kind of a super mini market) at very affordable prices. Definitely a gem!

The cheese does not stand alone!
Cumin cheese slightly blew my mind. The raccellete was perfection and I could've sampled all day.
Great local cheese shop at reasonable prices with unique flavors! -

Great friendly service and a decent variety of cheeses. They also make sandwiches and have other items to purchase. The lavender honey looked good.

You know how there are some places you supports cos you feel guilty shopping at Andronico's/Whole Paycheck/Trader Ho's, etc, etc..? Cos you'd rather give your money to a local business than a gagillion-$ conglomerate? But the place isn't exactly better?
So, this isn't that place.
There is 0 guilt involved as the service, food, expertise speaks for itself.
Make sure you don't stumble in on a Wednesday cos they're closed.
Do make sure you stumble in cos:
- there's a large variety of cheeses without it being intimidating/confusing/dizzying
- they take cards
- Brian's awesome & extremely helpful/friendly/non-judgmental when you ask stoopid Q's like "er,...what is cheese?"
- it's a one-stop shop before an impromptu or even planned picnic-ette in the park (they have cheese/bread/crackers/non-alcie drinks/wine/hummus/sandwiches/salami/other deli-sliced meats)
- they also have fresh pastas, a small variety of pasta sauces, wines, olive oils, peanut butter, almond butter, fresh olives & more! more! more!
- you can sample as many things as you'd like sans attitude (but don't be a douche! -- buy something if you genuinely like it, don't just run in for free samples cos you can, mang.)
Stop in. You won't be disappointed. Your trendy low-carb/low-fat diet might be screwed, but dear sweet heaven it'll be as worth it as a pint of Nutella. (which they also have. ha!) -

I fell in love today with my new corner sandwich shop.
OMG wow best sandwich place ever. Every aspect of the sandwich was amazing. I got the turkey and provolone on whole wheat w/ everything on it- lettuce, peppercinis, pickles, onion, tomato, mayo, and mustard. The guy was super friendly, helpful, and put this amazing super garlicky pesto on as well that he had picked up at a little shop somewhere. Everything about this place is awesome- tiny mom and pop, filled with cheese and delicious meats, and best pesto in the whole world, and apparently he said also the best hummus which I so need to go back in and try. People are just not that nice anymore, so i fully want to support this place!1 Previous Review: Show all »

It does NOT get better than this place! Delicious Sandwiches HANDS-DOWN, Great selection and varieties of Cheese + a cool place to shop as well. My friends and fellow yelpers, this is THE place! The only minor downside on this joint is that you have to find a parking space for it's crawling w/ parking Meter Officers so you have to keep an eye closely on your car OR keep some company inside your car. This place carries fresh cheese every now and then, just call ahead of time!

I LOVE THIS PLACE!!! First of all I love anything meat, cheese, wine or olive related so this place rocks. It has great prices and they let you sample just about anything in fact they encourage it. They also take suggestions for new items that you would like to see there which is really awesome because I live in the neighborhood and hate to go to Andronicos because the price is ridiculous!!! I would love to completely cut them out of my grocery shopping so if they could just get Panda Puffs cereal, organic cottage cheese and yogurt I would be totally set!!! All in all I love there selection and the people that work there are so friendly. I hear there sandwiches are really good too but haven't tried them yet but plan too!
PS: THE HUMMUS IS AMAZING!!!! -

I had a great mozzarella sandwich on a soft white roll today. The mozzarella was so fresh and the texture was fluffy and perfect. A great sandwich for $5.50. My finace got a pastrami sandwich with havarti cheese on rye for about $6. This is a great, local shop- perfect for fancy cheeses, if you're into that. Or, great for a quick lunch with high quality ingredients. They also have a slew of shelf goods- jams, olive oil, wine.

This quaint little shop was really full of surprises for me. The owner, Rick and his nephew Brian are both really nice guys that will seriously take care of you. They give great recommendations on what you're looking for, have an AMAZING homemade hummus, and offer a nice olive and meat selection for
half the price of Andronico's.
What I love most about this place is how they just want to feed you. Even if they know you only wanted a halfpound of mozzarella, they will say "here, taste the feta!" or "check out the yummy olives." You can seriously leave this place feeling like you just had a small lunch without even buying anything. These guys are just super nice. They will sample anything behind the counter for you, so just ask!
Bottom line: this is definitely a local shop worth supporting! You don't miss out on anything by choosing them over Andronico's...they give you amazing service, have better prices, and are just downright cool people. -

I just love this place. My mom and I stopped in here the other day on a whim because we both looove us some cheese. The guy who was helping us out was SUPER friendly and encouraged us to ask for as many samples as we wanted; I probably could have tried every kind of cheese in the store if I really wanted to.
They also sell homemade hummus (the guy said his uncle made it) that has a nice, creamy texture and a good amount of lemon in it, as well as dolmas and much more. They have a tiny grocery section with pasta and sauce and cookies and the like, too.
Whenever I venture into that neck of the woods again I will definitely be going to visit the Cheese Boutique. Gotta keep myself supplied with some gooda gouda! -

Wandering aimlessly around Inner Sunset the other day, I only knew I wanted a sandwich to take into the park with me, but I didn't know where to go. Lo and behold, a lightbulb dinged above my head when I saw the sign for Cheese Boutique. I cannot ever eat enough cheese, no matter how persistently I try, and it was a double bonus to see that they make fresh sandwiches.
Their selections all sounded delicious but then my eyes lit on the Mozzarella sandwich, the answer to my prayers! It was only $5.65 too! Grabbed a bottle of water and bag of carrot chips and my picnic lunch was complete. All for less than $10, and the service was AMAZING!!! He was so friendly and offered samples of any cheeses I cared to try. I was focused on my sammie so I turned him down- temporary insanity, perhaps?
this sandwich was heaven!! The mozazarella was fresh, there was an olive tapenade or some kind of condiment on there that added a sweet & tangy flavor that complemented the cheese perfectly. Lettuce, tomato and I think some pepper or other seasoning. I practically inhaled the thing and have been thinking about eating another one ever since.
And if you're looking for a picnic spot nearby (there's nowhere to eat inside this shop), just head over a few blocks to Golden Gate Park. I will be back again soon! -

I finally made it in here last week for the first time...and I was back already today.

Definitely a must try. I'm hooked! -

Cheese, glorious cheese! My genuine Swiss Miss friend Sue F. said Cheese Boutique was THE place to buy raclette cheese for our upcoming raclette fest.
BTW and FYI, this Cheese Boutique location has a couple of raclette machines you can rent for the princely sum of $6 per evening.
They also have a nice mom 'n pop vibe, but I would suggest calling ahead to make sure they have what you want if you need something specific as the Swiss Miss once had to go to their Glen Park location to get raclette cheese after finding none was to be had in the InSet. I wouldn't say that you'll get an answer when you call the first time as mom or pop might be making a sando or cutting cheese. Be persistent. You want to spend your money with these nice people.
Capricorn Coffee beans also avail @ $7.49 lb. That's a deal. -

It was a nice cold, sunny day today, so after my packing fiasco at the UPS store, I went to this cheese shop at the corner to purchase some hard cheeses to eat with my Marshall Farm's orange blossom honey. This place also carries other goodies that are great to eat with cheese.... crackers, nuts, sandwiches, and a fridge of beverages, including Le Village sparkling french lemonade (one of the very few stores that still carries this brand, I noticed).
The lady who helped me is very sweet and didn't give me attitude when I asked to sample some hard cheeses they had. I ended up purchasing the Primadonna cheese and the Old Amsterdam gouda.
I probably would've given this place an extra star if the cheese selection was bigger (but with the tiny store, I understand why they don't carry that many cheeses).
Even though they received a "100" on their DPH score card, they lose out on another star because the lady who helped me didn't wear gloves when handling the cheeses... THEN handling my money.

I love Cheese. I love love Chocolate.
This place has cheese ANDDD chocolate .. ANDDDD salami !!
Splurged on chocolate and sweets here. Weird, right?! Well, aside from selling cheese, they sell a variety of chocolate, coca, spreadable jams, cookies, and salami. I didn't really focus on the cheese because I was too hypnotized by the sweets. The ginger lemon cream cookies are absolutely worth dying for !! The dark chocolate thin mints are AH-MAH-GAD amazing !!!
The service was outstanding! I mean seeing the wide variety of cheese is quite intimidating, but the man reassured and comforted our cheese purchase by allowing us samples.
PS - I'm eating the ginger lemon cream cookies and thin mints as I write this review. Jealous?? -

A quaint neighborhood shop.
I was already running two hours late to my friends oyster fest. I planned on bringing heirloom tomato salad. Well, I had the heirlooms and the remainder of the ingredients but no fresh mozzarella. I just did not have time to deal with whole foods and I recalled this little gem. I am so glad too. I was able to get a great deal on fresh mozzarella. $1.99 per mozzarella ball. Also, I ended up picking up a bottle of one of my favorite olive oils too. -

Cheese Boutique does not have a million kinds of unique cheese from tiny alpine villages. Their cheeses are not artisanal, nor are they on a first name basis with the spanish goat-herds who created the cheese you will be eating. They are just selling cheese. Cheese made largely in factories. Good cheese. They carry a ricotta that is perfect for making gnocci.
The people who run this boutique of cheese are really pleasant. Around the holidays last year, I really needed prosciutto-ends for a dish I was making. I had no idea how I was going to get them without stupidly paying a lot of money. Cheese boutique had the ends, and GAVE them to me.
Their cheese recommendations are almost always solid, which is great compensation for their somewhat slight selection. Their sandwiches are pretty tasty too.
My only objection is that their grocery selection is a bit dull and fairly pricey. -

I am just beginning to get into the funkier cheeses, and this place has proven to be the perfect place to do some gustatory exploration. The staff are really helpful and informative, and are very quick and eager to hand out samples.
The selection is probably a bit limited -- that's the price you pay for a small, local shop -- but the quality is top-notch. It's expensive, but cheese is expensive in general and a little bit of good stuff can go a very long way.
They also carry a good selection of crackers and other cheese delivery systems, as well as some kickin' baba ganoush. -

This is a great cheese monger and an awesome alternative to the over priced lunch meats at Andronico's.
While their cheese selection isn't as diverse as the shop at Carl and Cole, they have fresher cheese, better prices, and they don't mind helping you find a cheese you like.
The owners are gracious, and have extensive cheese knowledge. My only complaint is that their hours are a little up in the air. They are closed Sunday and Wednesday, but I can't find a little hours sheet.
As far as my comment about Andronico's... the lunch meat carried here is from the same vendors (as far as I can tell.), just as fresh, and HALF the price.
I come here as often as I can. -
Review from Bert M.
Rick and his family, who own the shop, are completely responsible for my having gained 5 lbs since my wedding.
Some people like chocolate. I like cheese. It turns out, though, you can't buy and store vast quantities of cheese like you can with chocolate. I found that out the hard way. Peuw.
Closed on Sundays and Wednesdays. Worth the trip because they know everything about fermented milk products, and also carry some other neat snacky stuff. Also, prices are way lower than other shops in the area. -
Review from Becca S.
I love this place so much that, shortly after I discovered it, I stopped buying cheese anywhere else. I kid you not, fine people. I have been at Andronico's, looking at their spread (that is, of course, magnificent in its own right) and have actually said to myself, "But Becca! If you buy THIS cheese, then you can't go to Cheese Boutique!"
It has (fortunately) been noted by others that the service at this place is amazing. It's not even just one person on staff, either. I've been there a handful of times, met at least three different staffers, and have been impressed by all of them. What type of cheese am I interested in? Something for sandwiches? We have this fantastic aged cheddar, would you like some samples? (Nod, nod, nod.)
This is not an exaggeration. They will give you sample after sample, of anything and everything they have. We are using the "Cheese Boutique sample method" to reintroduce my boyfriend to soft cheeses enough times until he likes them - and the staff are totally on board.
I would probably feel a little bad for taking such heavy advantage of their expertise and generosity, but the truth is that I buy a lot of products from them. I say "products" and not cheese, because they have baba ganoush, dolmas, tapenades, jams, chocolates, crackers, cookies, pastas, and breads. All of these things are fairly and comparably priced. The $3 baba ganoush was taunting me, so I just picked some up and - what do you know? It's really freaking tasty!
If there is one drawback, it is that their selection is somewhat limited, so if you're looking for something rather obscure and specific, you may not have luck. However, everything that they do have is of the very best quality, and if you've got some time to hang out and gobble down samples, I would be mightily surprised if you didn't find something to suit your needs, and have a great time while doing so. -

Happened on it by accident on our way to the Japanese Tea Garden, stopped off afterward for some bread, crackers, dill havarti, mustard seed gouda, pepper pate, prescuitto, and wax peppers. Excellent and friendly service. As others noted, we also were offered various samples of their wares: mustard seed cheese and proscuitto. What a gem of a place, wonderful, wish we had one in our town.

I love the Cheese Boutique in the Inner Sunset.
The joint: The neighborhood cheese haven. A small little store on the corner of my block. My favorite place to pick up yummy appetizers for parties.
The food: YUMMY HOMEMADE HUMMUS, BABAGANOUSH and other things. I pick up a little container of hummus for my cousin from time to time when I go to visit and she loves it. So does everyone else I bring it to. A small but diverse selection of deli meats and cheese. It changes from time to time and they have the local good stuff too! They also make great fresh sandwiches from said selection of yummy meats and cheeses, which have saved me from starving on the plane. Good selection of gourmet condiments and goods. Ginger syrup to yummy mustard varieties. Just today I picked up two different and yummy pates for the super bowl parties I went to and everything was gone at both parties by the end of the night. They have everything you need to put together a great little party platter.
The service: SO NICE!!! I cannot say enough about how nice the people who own this place are. I've seen the couple and the daughter and they are all incredibly nice and helpful people. The owner is just a gem, he always makes sure I get a taste of a few different things before I make my choices. All I have to do is describe what I want and he picks out a few things for me to choose from. -

Cheese Please ! I know I'm being cheesy, but I just can't stop. OK I had to get that out of my system. Now we can move onto more important issues.
Like how the other day I walked in trying to remember a cheese that I had bought before. The owner remembered for me! The customer service at this place is da bomb. The owner is great at making recommendations and making sure you get what you need. Super nice folks. They also have a great selection of meats (prosciutto, salami etc.) and other specialty items for way cheaper than nearby Andronico's. Extra points, because you can ask for samples of things before you buy it! -

This is what a small business should be like.
Was greeted by the owner, a very nice man who just chit chatted with us while he made our sandwhiches. The sandwhich was so very fresh with excellent ingredients!
The shop also sells a wonderful selection of cheeses and amazingly reasonable prices.
Also, they have foods from all over Europe. Of course Nutella, but also jams, wines, crackers and drinks. I can't rave enough! -

Hello everyone! Just wanted to let you know that I'm super fancy!
Yep!
I went to the de Young today to see the Tut exhibit of Carter's 1922 "discoveries" and then off to the Cheese Boutique to get some meat and cheese to accompany my Acme breads for a lovely picnic lunch on this A-mazing August day in SF. -

Contrary to the customery aplomb that rampaged my youth, I can never look at Velveeta the same way again.
This is culinary divinity: rapt selection, attentive keepers, ample tastings... need I say more?
Ask them to make a creative and special sandwich, head to GG Park with a nice vino, and enjoy the running of the shadows across the grass with a special someone on a bright sunny day. -

Super cute little shop with a good selection of cheese. They also carry a bit of meat, humus, wine, crackers, etc. I was pretty impressed with the prices, I was expecting it to be on the pricey side, but I bought a pound of cheese (2 types - 1/2 lb. each, organic) and a container of humus for $10. Not bad for a specialty store and specialty cheese. The lady at the counter was super sweet and helpful. A real gem.
If you need cheese, but the good stuff, and not the mass-produced stuff you get at grocery chains, this is the place for you.Listed in: My Neighborhood

Great cheese and very friendly service. The folks who work here gave me lots of samples and recommended some excellent cheeses for fondue night at my place. The emmenthaler and grueyere were a smash hit, drew rave reviews even from the lactose intolerant folks present!

It really is a boutique. Small store, great selection of cheese, friendly and personable service. Got my boyfriend hooked on pastrami sandwiches again. And price is better than your big grocery shops.
The only drawback is that the store only has the owner working by himself. And it's either completely empty or everyone in the neighborhood seem to suddenly crave cheese. Also watch out for a certain old little lady. She will want to buy 5 or 6 jars of sugarless jam. And she is gonna want to cut in front of you. And the longer you make her wait, the more jars of jam she's gonna want to buy.
Moral of the story? Make her wait. -

I like how this place feels like a shop out of the past. It's a small, neighborhood place that is friendly, has knowledgeable staff, and aims to please their customers. Unfortunately, this type of shop seems to be disappearing.
They have some very good, basic options here. What I mean by that is there are a few blue cheeses, some popular hard cheeses, like Goudas, and some good soft options. However, at times, I feel like their selection is just too limited.
They also have some good meats, breads, and oils. But, I feel like I'm being generous with 3 stars because, to be honest, I always feel disappointed when I come here.
