Charlies Rock's.
I mostly get movies there, but it's also got a huge music selection.
You'd think it was a dive, but they have a ton of stock and know what they're talking about.
Some good cheep electronics rounds out a good store.Listed in: Favorites

I know that this placed closed and I would visit with my best friend whenever there was a Vogue or Commodore show. It was our ritual. I loved Charlie's and loved their cheap CD's and DVD's. I miss them so much and I hope that they open another location. Even though the CD/DVD age is dying to the download digital world, there are still some of us who appreciate the hard format and don't want to pay $15 for a new CD at HMV (which is also closing shortly). The one thing that annoyed me was the music that they played all the time.

I am so cheap when it comes to buying new movies that I always end up coming here to find my selection used. And Charlie's selection is pretty ginormous that you're bound to find the movie/music/game you're looking for, barring of course very rare titles. For more rare movies check out Videomatica, rare music check out Zulu and for rare video games check out Gamedeals Video Games (at the Vancouver Flea Market).
Enough talk of other businesses though. Prices are decent, the staff are friendly and helpful, and you'll get a good dose of Persian techno while you peruse the aisles. Happy hunting! -

Don't be put off by the big neon currency exchange sign -- this used CD store can rival the best used CD stores in Seattle or Portland.
Most CDs are $8.99 or $9.99. A bit pricey but not too bad. They have a huge selection and it's all organized on cheap-o looking racks in ABC order.
They even have AAA radio comps from the US - I saw KMTT, KGSR, and WMMM CDs here! -

I found ICO *and* Shadow of the Colossus here. I can't believe it! ICO is a game for Playstation 2, that for YEARS, has been near-impossible to find in stores.
Out of all the used places I've hunted through, Charlie's was the only one that had it! Awesome! This place is a diamond in the rough that carries diamonds in the rough!1 Previous Review: Show all »

Ya, well, they have a sale on now, it seems regularly. Movies and some CDs are down to 4-5 bucks. These are mostly near the front of the store.
Whenever we're stuck not finding stuff in the regular channels, we go to Charlie's and 70-85% of the time we're in luck. Try it, you'll like it.
I don't know what the Help Wanted sign in the window means, but it seems to be a permanent fixture. I applied once but never heard back. -

CDs may be obsolete to many modern techies, but some of us still have a big old boombox and like playing discs in it.
Enter Charlie's Music City, which claims to be the largest used CD store in the country. While I can't verify that claim, I can say the shop carries a fair amount of stock. And, despite the massive number of CDs sold here, Charlie's manages to remain a clean and bright space, with its offerings arranged thoughtfully (mainly alphabetically) and often at eye-level and/or face out so you can quickly and easily find what you're looking for.
If you want to listen to your picks before buying, be aware that you can only do so one at a time (reminiscient of the four-item-per-changeroom rule at many clothing stores), but none of the employees will give you the evil eye if you want to listen to more than one item (even a pile is a-OK).
Charlie's also has a top-notch CD cleaning machine that removes minor scratches. That being said, you know you won't be purchasing unplayable CDs and, you are welcome to bring in your scratched discs - if the machine can repair them, you'll only be charged a buck or two per CD. -

Charlie's might appear to be straight out of the Red Light District in Amsterdam or a cheap shop along the strip in Las Vegas, but try not to let that deter you from your desire for affordable tunage.
This massive store carries used CD's in every genre, with a ton of selection, in particular, in Jazz and Blues artists, amongst others, for under 10 bucks. Along with music, Charlie's also carries a plethora of cheap used DVD's in film, workout, concert and every genre in between. Video games for all consoles are available as well.
Not only a proprietor of used multimedia, Charlie's sells new release movie DVDs behind the counter at the back of the store and everything is organized in alphabetical order. The knowledgeable staff will find what you are looking at faster than you can so it is worth it to ask! -

Charlie's definitely isn't as shady as its outside looks. Granted, there's something questionable about its processes of obtaining used CDs, Games and DVDs but why question that sort of thing when you have a clearinghouse of high quality merch just waiting to be exploited by the cheap masses such as myself.
Charlies is THE best place to find a DVD. Obscure, foreign or just crazy movie you've never heard of, I love to peruse Charlie's dvd walls. I've honestly never even bought a CD here but I've bought plenty of movies and also plenty of Lazer disks (simply for the decorative cover art). I always go here when I dont know what to get someone as their huge selection tends to at least have something that'll make someone laugh, if not something perfect for them as well.
Charlie's really must be seen to be believed. I suggest everyone who likes cheaper media head down here and check it out. They really care about the quality and you're not likely to be disappointed.
Also, if you've got some stuff to sell, Charlie's will give you a reasonable amount of money for it. Probably one of the better places in town for it. -

On the downtown strip of Granville sits Charlie's Music, selling a wide catologue of music, movies, games and used stereos. Using a huge space that must be rent-controlled, they sell cheap used music that can appeal to the collector, but remember that this is mostly music that somebody sold because they thought it was bad.
There's now hundreds of CDs hanging from the ceiling as decorations, proving how obsolete the technology has become. Charlie's still perseveres though, also dabbling in posters that would typically suit the bedroom of stoned teenagers, as well as a large selection of kittens, flags, cars, and sweaty celebrities in sexy poses.
Due some credit, there's a wide range of dvds as well, and overall the customer can spend at least an hour looking through all of the titles and finding some gems at good secondhand prices. It's just that in a depressing way, it's kind of like the Value Village of used music stores. -

Don't let the appearance of the outside of the store turn you off. Inside there is an abundance of DVD's at great prices starting at 4.99.There is literally hundreds of DVD'S here. It is way cheaper then its competiters(HMV,Record Shop). Also the best place to buy new releases as some of the new movies are 10 dollars cheaper then HMV. You can also find cd's, video games, and posters. Go there and you will most likely find what you are looking for.

I went there to sell dvd's - they do not buy dvd's, except for trade. It looks like they have a lot of good things.
