I wish I could give more stars, they deserve it.

First, I must warn you, 205 Meeting Street is an alley.  It is VERY easy to miss this entrance to the hotel.

It is centrally located and a convenient walk to just about everything of interest in Charleston.  You can enter the hotel from Meeting Street, Market Street, and King Street.

The rooms are tastefully appointed and our room had balconies on 2 sides.

We were here celebrating our 30th wedding anniversary and there was a beautiful bouquet of flowers with a card to welcome us upon arrival.

Every employee we encountered was polite and helpful.  I wish we had been able to stay longer.   Extra umbrellas available for everyone on that extremely rainy Sunday afternoon.

I never thought I'd see the day when the Charleston place let me down...but this past week, I did. The staff was just not accommodating (quite frankly, they were rude and dismissive). The room I stayed in was less than impressive. The lighting was insufficient-- only two desk lamps and a flickering floor lamp. There were stains on the window treatment. I went two days without housekeeping until I called to request it. My room service breakfast croissant was the size of a 6 year olds fist and hard as a rock. The berries weren't ripe.

As for the exceptional bedding I have always praised the Charleston Place for? Gone. My best guess is the economy really rocked their linen bank. The pillows were all the same (not one soft, one firm- both overstuffed, firm and HOT). I hardly slept a full nights once due to discomfort. Despite all that, the worst were the bath robes. THEY FELT LIKE SANDPAPER. Literally, scratched my skin off. Really concerning and super budget.

It is sad to say but I will never be staying at the Charleston Place (aka the overrated convention center) again. From this point on it will be the Market Pavillion or French Quarter Inn for me.

P.s. The Thoroughbred Club in the lobby is still fabulous and worth grabbing a drink at. But don't order the sweet tea- its flavored nowadays (gross).

This place is getting shabby and the staff is not overly friendly or helpful.  Expected much more from the Charleston Place; Planters Inn is a much better property and value in Charleston.

Their accounting practices are goofy, multiple credit card charges that are difficult to get corrected.

Totally glamorous as well as impeccable in every detail. I love the double circular old time staircase even though some of the patrons were in practice, attempting a Queen of England or Scarlet O'Hara entry.

The hotel also has one of the finest restaurants as well as one of the most luxurious bars, The Thoroughbred.

As for the wait, counter and bell staff; top of the notch professionals.

The Charleston Place is really one of the grande dames of Southern hotels.

This hotel is top notch.  From the doorman, to the lobby, to your room you know you are in a top notch hotel.  Our room was not only very clean, but very well appointed.  The only two issues I had were the TV reception was poor and the wireless internet was very slow and spotty.  If you are looking for a very classy place, the Charleston Place is the place to stay.
The location is right in the heart of Charleston, an easy walk to anyplace you want to go.  They had plenty of parking that was reasonable ($12 per day) with in and out privileges.  There is a small, high caliber mall attached to the Charleston Place and a very nice lobby lounge.  If you are looking for a very classy place, the Charleston Place is the place to stay.

Stayed here in the end of august with one of my friends.

Pros: hotel is absolutely beautiful, great lobby, there is a mini mall in the hotel and the restaurant in the hotel is simple, good food for breakfast. the concierge is amazing, the most helpful concierge i have ever experienced at a hotel... they give out direction cards to everywhere you want to go and literally cannot wait to help you. amazing location. this is in the center of everything- you don't need a car at all (if you're staying downtown).

Cons: there werent many. oddly enough, we had NO cold water, it was terrible.  we called and complained and were told "We're in downtown charleston..." hmmm ok, i guess thats a valid reason?  Also, the rooms were dated... huge clunky tv in an armoire that breaks the whole room in half and a tacky huge shower curtain/drapes thing that you know has never been washed...

overall, i would come back and stay here because of the staff and location. but they need to update the rooms.

The Charleston Place Hotel is a wonderful place to stay in Charleston. It is very grand and full of lovely amenities. The service is exceptional. Being from the Northeast, I often find that service in the south is always very good, but here it was a tier above.

There are a number of good restaurants inside the hotel, and I frequented the Thoroughbred club for drinks, and ate at both the Charleston Grill (Dinner) and Palmetto Cafe (breakfast and lunch). Great choices!

Also it is conveniently located downtown which makes exploring Charleston on foot very easy. There is also a shopping mall which if you feel like being a spendthrift, will suit you just fine.

The rooms were luxurious, as were the linens and the complimentary toiletries. Clean and fresh! Will DEF stay here again when next in Charleston!!!

I got a great rate on a room here on http://LastMinuteTrave... otherwise, I probably couldn't afford to stay here. But boy am I glad I did because this hotel turned an already fantastic first time visit to Charleston into a luxurious vacation retreat.

The hotel is absolutely beautiful from the rooms, to the public spaces, to the check in area. Service is exceptional, you will never open a door yourself and the concierge gives great information on local places to visit. Including handy direction cards for popular attractions!

We loved, loved, loved the salt water pool. No stinging eyes and smelly chlorine! The pool has a retractable roof and is on the fourth floor surrounded by a lovely, outdoor lounge area,

I highly recommend this hotel for visitors to Charleston. I'm already trying to finagle another visit to Charleston and a stay at the Charleston Place Hotel!

Charleston Place is one of those hotels you go to and think, I'm really glad I spent the extra money.

First off, the location can't be beat... seriously all roads lead to Charleston Place. There were times we thought we were lost... but no, right ahead was our hotel. It's perfectly located between the bars, shopping, waterfront, historic churches, battery, rainbow row.

The room was very nice as well. We stayed on the 4th floor - same as the gorgeous pool/spa.

I didnt try the restaurant downstairs (too expensive) but have heard it is one of the best. The bar was OK - a little older/stuffy, but good drinks and good company.

I did a hotel during my first stay in Charleston due to the fact that if you aren't staying over a week it isn't worth an apartment sublet. I'm not a fan of hotels but this one won me over! It's beautiful in every sense from the lobby to the rooms and the staff was friendly [& overloaded with great drinking spot reccomendations, cheers!] and the hotel itself had extremely good location. It made exploring on foot [for us city dwelling non drivers] extremely easy but it also had most things you'd need in the actual hotel, which is divine for those "i know this is vacation but i still don't want to move days"

    I loved it

    Wow.  What can I say?

    Amazing hotel.

I was here for a leadership conference, and so I didn't have much time to truly get a sense of all that is within walking distance of the hotel, but what little I DID see was really great.

There are multiple stores within the facility - clothes, chocolate, Pandora, that kind of thing.  Their pool and workout facilities were also amazing, and the rooms were nice (probably 4+ stars).

    Service/etc also top-notch.

This place definitely knows how to run.  Yes, it was expensive, but this week, I wasn't paying! :)

    Best hotel in Charleston.

This is a beautiful, elegant, old, established, totally lovely hotel staffed by attentive, caring, outgoing people.  They want to make your stay in Charleston both soothing and memorable, and they succeed admirably.

If you want to visit Charleston and experience the best of its charms, this is your hotel.

The club level is worth it - highly recommended.  Any room is great, though, because the people make this place work.

It is ok.  Needs updateing.  There is no fridge or coffee pot in the room.  And the rooms have old analog TVs.  Having said that I was quite upset when working on wireless trying to get it to work.  I troubleshoot wireless for a living.  So I was thinking it was maybe an AP = Access Point issue, or the wireless card in my new laptop or the wireless protocol not working correctly.  I had just used this couple of days ago.  After 45mintues of trying to see what was going on, I called the front desk and they neglected to let their customers know that they had changed the password yesterday.  I was livid.  I gave them a solution to send a blanket phone message to everyone staying in the hotel but nooooooo they could not have done it so easily.

Won't be back.  Rooms are quite tired

Since I stay in so many hotels, I don't review very many.  Most of the time, they all seem pretty similar, but I just can't help but comment on those that stand out.  Charleston Place is a beautiful hotel in the perfect location, but what really makes this place special is the service.

We operated a group travel program at the hotel and every single staff person we worked with or ran into was so warm and friendly.  I don't think I ever saw anyone without a smile on their face.  From management to banquet servers, everyone went out of their way to make sure we had a great experience.  More than one banquet server thanked me for coming and hoped that I would come back soon.  They all seemed genuinely happy to work there and it was clear that they loved their jobs.  That is unusual in today's economic climate where everyone is overworked.  I sincerely appreciate great service and these people are top notch.

If you're looking for a truly special experience, I highly recommend Charleston Place.  You won't be disappointed.

This hotel was highly recommended to us by a friend of mine who travels to Charleston often. What a great recommendation. The lobby is very elegant; the room was extremely clean and tastefully decorated reflecting southern charm and the bathroom was plenty big. The hotel staff was friendly and very helpful in planning our stay.

Although I didn't use any of the spa services, I did walk through that area on my way to the pool and it looked very classy. Nice pool, hot tub and deck for sunbathing.

Louis Button, Gucci, Talbots, and St. John are just a few of the shops you will find located at Charleston Place. So, ladies have fun - guys, be prepared.

Charleston Place is definitely 5 star worthy.

    THE finest hotel in Charleston!

My wife and I stayed here on our honeymoon.  When we checked in, we were still in our wedding clothes.  When they saw my wife in her beautiful wedding gown, they upgraded us to a $1500.00 per night suite on one of the upper floors at no extra cost..  If you so stay on the upper two floors, you get a key to use on the elevators that the other guests don't get.  Up there you will find a guest lounge that serves heavy hors d'oveurs and an open bar where the bartender will serve you anything you desire.  This is all included in the price of your room.  Its enough to eat and drink that you really don't need to leave.  They serve afternoon tea.  This is the hotel that the movie stars stay in when they come to Charleston to shoot a film.

We didn't take advantage of the pool or the spa which I regret, but the next time we're there....

We got married on Christmas morning, so by the time we arrived, they were serving their Cristmas brunch in one of their restaurants.  There were dozens and dozens of people in the lobby for their Crhistmas meal.  There were no less than 8 ice sculptures and numerous toy trains running about the lobby.  I think there were 15 Christmas trees in the lobby.  There is a wide spiral stairway that comes down from the second floor, and when my wife came down everyone turned and applauded.  I felt like Rhett Buttler at the bottom of the stairs when he first laid eyes on Scarlette!  It truely was a fantastic honeymoon that the hotel made better.

When we returned from our dinner, there was a bottle of champagne on ice with some chocolate covered strawberries, waiting for us on our dining room table.  They spelled "Congratulation" with choclolate sauce on the rim of the plate.  That's the special touch that you can expect here.

There are some exquisite shops on the ground level to spend your hard earned money on Gucci, Prada and Patek Philippe and the like.

So, if you want to be treated like royalty, this is the place to be.

This has the look and feel of a classy place, but my experience tells otherwise.  Very pretty lobby and good service at the front desk.  They have an average fitness center, but a very nice pool and spa.

Unfortunately, my room left a lot to be desired.  Lots of space, but the furnishings were pretty outdated (for example a pretty old television set) and some dings and wear and tear were apparent elsewhere.  I still did not have too much to complain about until I saw a cockroach underfoot as I worked at the desk.  I know it could happen anywhere, but I was not too pleased about it.  I suspect I had one of the worst rooms in the hotel because I received a special rate (a rate the hotel initially refused to give me, but a travel agent secured with no problem--what gives?).  I would have been quite upset if I had paid $300-$400 for my room, but I did not, so I did not raise a fuss.

In any case, I suspect that there are much nicer hotels sans cockroaches in Charleston.

One of the nicest hotels I've ever stayed in, Charleston Place has great rooms, the nicest staff in the continental US, great restaurants, and a great location right in the middle of downtown touristy Charleston.

They also have free internet services, a great pool, and the room service food is some of the best I've ever tasted.

The bathroom in the suite I had was nicely constructed, gorgeously decorated, and always cleaned properly and well stocked.

The room itself was spacious, the beds were nice, and the balcony had a great view. A+ hotel all the way.

This is one of the finest hotels I have stayed in on several continents. Very elegant, perfect location, extraordinary service, bar, food service and on and on.

We stayed in the Governors Suite on the 8th floor. This was the perfect accommodations for my rock star wife and youngest daughter.
The girls loved the place, especially the shopping. The shopping is totally focused on women. I actually enjoyed checking out all of the unique women's boutiques and helping pick out clothes. The local Charleston stores are very electic, inspiring and interesting.

The 7th and 8th floor guests are treated to an amazing concierge level with non stop food all day and  appetizers with an open bar in the evening, no charge, well actually its baked into the room prices.

    Great workout facility and spa.

This place has it all and they do it exceptionally well.

Pretty much perfect. I can't think of a single negative. The service, the facilities, the location, the staff, the rooms, the bath products, the pool, the cocktails and bar snacks at the Thoroughbred, the breakfast at the Palmetto restaurant... sheesh, everything was great!

Oh, ok, the only thing I would say is that voices and noise carry in the courtyard which can be a little annoying if your room faces it, but it isn't open late into the evening.

Charleston Place is a REALLY nice hotel, ritzy and wonderfully located. The building has a nice historic feel and is part of a larger complex that includes upscale restaurants and shops. The classical, old South amenities make it really nice for a romantic getaway. It is extremely pricey, though. As nice as the amenities and location are I'm not sure I could argue that they quite justify the price. But still I have no complaints.

I agree with Matt T. This place has a great lobby and looks like it should be great, but once you get up to the rooms, you realize they are sorely in need of updating. We arrived late from a delayed flight and found our room without soap at the sink, a used soap in the bathtub...oh, and on the bathtub...holey kamoley...i want to save water to help the planet, but do you need a shower head air-ator so strong you have to stand under it for 10 minutes just to wet your hair. Anyway, maybe the concierge level is better. We had plenty of space, but it could use some new chintz! There is no WiFi because the walls are too thick ( -;)Never had a chance to use the spa, but the room didn't inspire me to waste my time. I spent most of my time out in Charleston enjoying this marvelous town.
