I am surprised that there haven't been more reviews of this salon. After having lived in Ottawa for numerous years, and never having received a hair cut I didn't have to alter myself afterwards, I had a great experience at Character.
The hairstylist took time to discuss what I wanted and provide suggestions, and then shock of all shocks, actually followed through on what he said he would do. He actually worked with my hair type and my wishes. All the time while providing fantastic and fun banter, which is another huge plus for this place - friendly stylists who have a sense of humour.
They also price by hair length, a range of which is very reasonable, and seem to have a great following for those wanting to get colour. Another plus, their awesome window displays. Who doesn't want to get a hair cut at a place that has a robot in the window? -

The only reason I still don't go to Character is because of it's location. There's absolutely nothing wrong with this place or it's location, it's just not that convenient for me.
I'd recommend this place to anyone. The stylists are always having fun and are quite courteous.
I got a cut from there twice and both times Kristen did a great job. I know it's not THAT hard to not mess up a short hair cut for a man but the salon was just so relaxing and the scalp massage was phenomenal.
The prices were decent, although a bit on the high end but it's not an in and out hair cutting factory, it's a relaxing place to unwind too.
They offered me beverages and even a snack as well.
If you're in the Westboro or Wellie West area of town I'd recommend Character for sure.
