Passed this place many times and wondered about it. Well had dinner the other night and had the usual green curry chicken, really liked it. Also an interesting dish never seen before in any other Thai restaurants, called Taro Root Hot Pot Rice (has pork in it too). Now if you like those huge purplish taro, you will love this. So fragrant and delish. If you've never tried taro, now could be the time for an adventure. Mind you, our friendly waitress said sometimes how the taro turns out depends on the season. Right now, it's 'fluffy' which is good. yum, yum.
Also tried the Pad Woon-Sen. Basically Pad Thai with transparent bean noodle. I didn't like that as much cos of the slight spicy, sweet and sour taste..not to say it's not good if you like that sort of thing. The waitress said we could have ordered it Pad See-iw style, which is more soy based. Have to try that next time since i do generally like a good Pad See-iw.
The other good thing was that after the meal, i expected the huge thirst for water which was often the case in other Thai restos but didn't have it with this at all. Not sure if it was cos we asked if the dishes we ordered were salty or not, but even then the waitress assured us they were not. And she was right.
As it's so close to Broadway Station Canada Line, i couldn't help wondering why it was so quiet on a Sat. evening. Too bad cos i think more people should try it.
Maybe we were real lucky and it was all goodl. But the exp. made us want to come back for more, and also to try some of the other intriguing rice offerings like Coconut ried rice with seafood served in coconut shell, etc.
Final note: If you have a large group of people say 8-10, should phone ahead and ask for their special set menu. If you like crab, they have this specially marinated cold crab which apparently is to die for. Can't get this any place else. But have to order at least one day ahead.
Writing about all this just makes me want to go back real soon. -

This was a solid dining experience. The food was great, the menu has variety, the server was friendly, the location is good, the prices are reasonable. My friend and I had two main courses, an appetizer, a side of regular rice and a side of sticky rice for $40 incl tax and tip for the two of us. We were stuffed and there were leftovers.
As for authenticity... I traveled extensively in Thailand a few years ago but I am by no means a Thai culinary expert. Nonetheless, the sticky rice we were served was not Thai sticky rice. It was more like the stuff that comes wrapped in a banana leaf in Chinese and Vietnamese places. Still tasty, just not what I was expecting. The Penang curry we had was fantastic, the squid and vegetables thing was fine and the spring rolls were all right.
The restaurant looks like it could use some upgrading. The tables, chairs, and booths are very worn. There were stacks of boxes of soft drinks and beer by the cash, it made the place look a little cluttered. Of course, renovations would probably mean higher prices, and I think that would be bad. But there might be a way to spruce the place up a little bit, on the cheap.
A note about stars: 3 stars means A-OK, and I mean it. Chao Phraya is A-OK. Good food, good service, reasonable prices. -

I would rate about 3.5 too. Went here once for a huge veg dining event and the food was so great. Everything was fresh and tasty and huge portions. Really enjoyed the green curry, red curry, chilli eggplant , vegetables in black bean sauce.
We came back for lunch another time and it was just ok. The food came out super quick. It was after 2 so it was dead. The waitress was really friendly.
I just found the lunch portion was obviously much smaller and we were both still hungry after. I got the vegetables in black bean sauce and my husband got massaman. Not as good as others we've had but it was ok. It's probably better when it's busy or for dinner.
My favourite Thai place is still Thai Basil though. -

This is a good Thai restaurant. I've eaten in the restaurant and I've had food delivered from here numerous times.
The ambiance is plain and functional. The service is friendly and professional. For delivery, you should expect 45 minutes to an hour. They will tell you on the phone and they are prompt, professional, and polite.
My favorite dishes here are:
Chicken with Green Beans (Spicy) - The chicken is tender. The green beans are crisp. and it has just the right amount of zip.
Guy Yang (BBQ Chicken) - This chicken is also tender. It has an almost smoky flavor to it. The sauce they provide is almost nectar.
I will note their satay (both beef and chicken) are inconsistent. It can be very tough and, at times, the flavor is a little heavy handed. -

More of a 3.5, but Yelp doesn't have a middle rating system, so nonetheless, this place is pretty good. Where is the good you ask, well for starters, location is really good, around the Broadway and Cambie area, where everything seems to be popping up these days! The service, it is there, and in good spirit and heart, overhearing one table, the waitress was telling the one man to pack the leftovers home, as the curry would taste better the next day. Also the place is pretty roomy and quiet, a good feel to get away from the norm of packed restaurants and loud people. The only thing that may look a little out of place is the big flat screen tv hanging in the middle there, but for you sports fanatics (especially following the Canucks, as they always play hockey on Saturdays here) it is good for you.
I come here every so often as the food is a good proportion, and kind of a middle point for people to meet, outside of downtown, and before they go back to their homes. The last time we went, we had the beef with red curry, and also a sweet and sour fish dish with two bowls of rice. Be warned, their curry is very saucy, to the point if your a sauce person, you may need a second bowl of rice to accomodate all this sauce.
My friend had the fresh coconut drink, and this thing is fresh, like night market fresh, where you get the coconut served to you on a plate, with a straw popped in it. -

I haven't actually eaten at the restaurant before..but..I have ordered in more time then I can count...so I can't review the look of the place for you but the food is top drawer!!
This is my "go to" oder in menu on a Friday night when I just don't feel inspired to cook..the food is always great quality..you get really decent portions and the price is pretty darn affordable.. the delivery guys are hit and miss..often a little squirrelly.. but entertaining none the less..
Order the Nua Pad Prik Khing, Khao Pad Bai Gra-Prow and the Chicken in Red Curry...DELICIOUS!! Trust me you won't be disappointment! -

Forgettable Chinese operated Thai restaurant. Maybe go here for the $6.95 lunch specials.
This restaurant is pretty mediocre when it comes to the food. I didn't experience anything memorable with my red chicken curry and I didn't find it terribly authentic. It is however cheap and may appeal to some but even in that context I'd much prefer Urban Thai in Yaletown. -

Maybe I just didn't order the right thing. I had the appetizer platter for two, the ginger beef and the red curry chicken everyone raves about. But I found it just ok. It wasn't terrible, the service was good and it was authentic thai. Just not the best I ever had for thai food.

Restaurant is usually full with customers during lunch hours... My favorite dish would be the Penang beef curry rice and pad Thai... Close to my work place an definitely a go to restaurant. I find that I always get a lot of meat on my food... Unlike the others so... I had spicybeef noodle today which I like too... Decoration is not superb but still alright.
