This is a great place to stop in for a beer and a bite to eat.  The staff are very friendly and usually very quick to serve you (but not always).  They have a great selection of foods and drinks to make everyone happy!  This is a great place to hold a birthday as they will reserve as much space as you require.  For large groups they have semi private rooms that you can have to yourself until later in the evening.  Later in the evening they often have live entertainment as well to keep things interesting!  Once the live entertainment starts it usually gets really busy here and the only service then is usually found at the bar.  If this was not the norm in local pubs this might be a deterrent but it is just normal in Vancouver.  Good or bad it's just what happens in the pub scene in Van.

Went on a Wednesday.  25 cent chicken wings are very cheap.  Unfortunately, you should be careful which flavors to pick.  Honey garlic, barbecue, and jamaican jerk are good.  Honey Lemon, Salt and Pepper were awful.  The wings came barely warm.  I don't know what happened, maybe the heat lamp broke, or the microwave wasn't working that well.

Beer was cold.  The daily special is reasonably priced.  There were hardly any guests at around dinner time / after work, yet we found it hard to get the waitress' attention when we wanted to order stuff.  Kinda bizarre.  But whatever.

A huge turnoff wasn't the $10 cover for guys, and then the $10 cover for everyone past 10 p.m. on a WEDNESDAY, it was the fact that they scanned our licenses AND took our photos. Gee, I wonder what they're going to do with THOSE files.

I seriously did not want to go, but I was with a group of people and didn't want to be THAT person. There was a beer pong tournament going on, on the dancing side of the bar, and obnoxiously loud music that kept getting turned up louder after every song.

At least there were $3 tequlias. After awhile, we moved to the back part of the bar, where I could at least hear myself think. There, the waitress was super nice.

If they'd dial the music down, it's a pretty neat atmosphere, but again, the cover/picture-taking would not bring me back.

But damn the $3 tequlias ... AND the dueling piano bars (which I LOVE) on Thursdays. Is there cover?

a self-proclaimed "irish' pub.. they seriously do not have a clue. Also one of the worst breakfasts I have ever had.
    Don't do it to yourself.

I came here for a friend's birthday party.  Let's start with the good things about this pub.  At first glance this pub looks pretty good.  My friend had a reservation, and they sat us at a long table near a window, which was great.  The waitress gave us numbered coasters to organize who ordered what, which made it super simple when it came to pay.  They also had the Granville Island Hefeweizen on special for $5.  Also, I really liked their cracked black pepper french fries.

Now on to the bad.  First off, our waitress wasn't the best.  We found ourselves ordering drinks well before they were empty to ensure we'd actually have a drink in a reasonable time.  There was also an 18% gratuity on everyone's bill, which I definitely don't think she deserved.  Second, the food was okay but greasy, especially the chicken wrap I ordered.  Third, when my boyfriend left the table, a waitress bumped into him, which ripped the button off of his shirt.  The lost button wasn't a huge deal, that can be fixed, but what gets me is that she didn't even apologize to him!  That's rude on all counts.

Apparently you have to pay cover here if you arrive after 9pm?  It's a pub, not a nightclub.  We didn't leave until around 10pm and the pub was quiet the entire time, so I'm not sure why a cover charge is necessary?

Overall, this pub is okay, and I'd probably go for drinks again, but I don't think I'd go out of my way to come here again.

A friend and I grabbed dinner here the other weekend and the fact that it was completely empty aside from one man studying in a corner made me a little nervous...

It actually wasn't that bad. I ordered the veggie burger with a side of the black pepper fries. My friend had the same but with the garlic mashed potatoes instead of fries so that we could try both. We love carbs, a lot.

Everything tasted pretty decent, and I'm sure our server thought we were stoned or something because we piled mashed potato into the burgers (which I HIGHLY recommend!) and ate them that way.

The service was good, pretty relaxed. No complaints there..

The elevator smelled like urine and other horrible things, and still had water pooling around different areas of the floor from the last mopping and made a slightly terrifying jolt at the top before the doors opened.

I'd come back but I wouldn't suggest it. It was alright.

The location is great and seemed like a perfect pre-drinking place before the clubs, but in reality...

1.)  Drinks were watered down  (I had 4 and they were all weak)
    2.)  Co-ed washrooms were dirty
    3.)  Food is average

On the plus side, our server was extremely friendly and helpful.

We use them occasionally for large events with a projector. While the A/V guys are usually very friendly and as helpful as they can be, it seems there's always some kind of glitch -- can't get the projector to work, the audio only works in one room, that kind of thing. I'm sure they were anomolies, but they always seemed to happen.

The food is servicable. Nothing wrong with it, but nothing to write home about.

The food was pretty tasty, I ordered a veggie burger with mashed potatoes as a side dish. I liked that there was feta on the burger, something different from the millions of identical veggie burgers around town!

The restaurant was quiet, almost awkward, but it was early on a Tuesday evening.

The service was good except for when I went to pay I was told that they only accepted cash and credit cards, however there was an ATM downstairs I could use. This seemed like way too much trouble than it was worth, considering the elevator smelled awful, so I just paid with a credit card. The odd thing was when we went to leave I noticed an ATM on our floor, something the waitress probably should have known existed.

Anyway, it was a pretty good meal so I'd go back.

I went there alone on a Tuesday night while visiting BC, so I wasn't expecting a huge crowd. I asked my cousin to suggest a place that wasn't sleezy, so Ceili's it was! I was also the youngest person there. Most people there were 30+.

There was a live band playing. There was a $5 cover, I think, but the people just let me walk. I sat at the bar. Ordered a drink and the bartender was kind and friendly. A little later, I talked with some people that were there. They were pretty nice. Wasn't too bad of a night.

If I'm up there again, I'd go back if I was with someone or on a busier night. Overall, it was pretty relaxing and I got some good conversation with some people (which in the end, was all I wanted).

Great place to come by for a beer with some friends.  There's a bar side and a restaurant side on the 2nd floor.  On the 3rd floor is a "indoor patio-style" restaurant.

The setup isn't bad, with a dance floor on the bar side.  They even have a live band.  Unfortunately nobody really dances until "critical mass" is reached.

Definitely a bit on the loud side, but this is to be expected of any Irish-style pub.  It's a bit dirty too, but this is also no surprise.

My sister and I had lunch today at Ceili's Irish Pub.  It's a cozy pub on the second floor. The greeter at the door is very very friendly.

My sister had nachos ... there was lots of cheese and they were tasty

I had hot wings (they were good) and some of my sister's nachos.

We watched the first period of the Vancouver Canucks/San Jose Sharks hockey playoffs game (Vancouver won).  There were quite a few hockey lovers watching the game.

The bathrooms are unisex which I wasn't crazy about.  The first one I walked into must have been last used by a guy because the toilet seat was up and there was pee in the unflushed toilet.

I'm basing this on the Thursday Night Dueling Piano's, as Thursday's are the only days I've ever been. That being said - it's AWESOME. The guys are amazing musicians, you can write suggestions for songs and they will play pretty much whatever comes out of the hat. I'm not kidding. We were jerks and made them play Bohemian Rhapsody - AND THEY DID IT. ALL of it. The Thursday atmosphere is such a party too - pretty much just folks enjoying the music and wanting to sing along.

That said, I've attempted to come in on a Friday and been instantly turned off by the cover charge - to get into a decent - not great - pub it's ridiculously steep, and there did seem to be a large amount of squealing girls whose legality I would question, which always turns me off a bar.

That said, Thursdays are a blast. If you can make it down after work, do. It'll brighten up your day :)

This is my go-to place to go dancing in Vancouver! It seems to be a crowd pleaser for the guys, girls, dancers and non-dancers. It's casual, but you can dress-up if you want....anything goes. The crowd is super fun, relaxed and really down to earth....no snobby girls! The food is just standard pub food, not bad, but not amazing.

    PROS:
    -Free cover before 9:00pm
-Coat check (although $3-$4 per item)
-Good music (they switch between a live band and top 40 DJ..both are always great!)
    -Fun crowd
-Roof top patio (open in summers)
    -Serve food late
    -close to public transit

    CONS:
    -Small dance floor
-Crowded dance floor, gets warm in the summer
    -cover charge after 9pm

Tip: If you get hungry after the kitchen closes, you can go across the street to the corner for $2 at (Megabites?) Just make sure to have the bouncer give you a stamp on your hand before you go out, and be sure to explain to them you came before 9:00pm and they didn't give you a stamp...otherwise they might think you'll have to pay cover. I've never had a problem with this once I explain I came before 9pm.

Whoever decided it was a good idea to go to this place after work on Friday must have been smoking the crack pipe. We had a reservation for about 30 people, but the staff hadn't really set up the tables in a way that we could all sit together and talk, so we had to get creative and do it ourselves.

The drinks, were not too expensive, but that's probably because they were pretty watered down. I asked for my usual, double rum and diet coke, which arrived to me in a short glass, which should have been my first clue. Since it was in a short glass, I was expecting it to be much stronger, as the ratio of booze to bevie was smaller. I am not a large person, but if I can drink four of these and not feel a little wobbly, that's probably not a good thing. When you are a pub, don't you think the one thing people come to you for should be amazing?

We ordered the "cheesy" nachos as per the menu which were $16.75!
    $16.75!!!!!!! SRSLY!
These nachos better be sprinkled with cheese made of gold if they cost that much. The nachos arrive and the first words out of my mouth are W.T.F? There was barely any cheese on our "cheesy" nachos. Guacamole was extra so we had almost naked chips with salsa and sour cream. Who's pick was this place again?

The waitress we had was good, she made sure I always had a drink in my hand. I also got a shot from the alternative Zack Morris at the bar, because I was on a mission, and so far I had been unsuccessful. At least I was able to make my tequila-face once last night, so it wasn't a total bust.

They had a big screen projector with the opening ceremonies of the Paralympics on, and when that was over they had a band playing, but I didn't really stick around for that. There isn't really anything about Ceilis that makes it Irish, besides the fact that it sells Guinness. Why do all Vancouver pubs want to be Irish anyways? Why can't we have more Mexican pubs with donkeys that you have to ride when you get really drunk? I can tell you one thing, I won't be spending my St. Patrick's Day at Ceilis.

Not that I was expecting much from their food, but I was pleasantly surprised to get a hearty sweet potato soup and better-than-average green salad for only $10 (I ordered the small size of both but the portions were still quite good). The salad had cucumber, goat cheese, dried cranberries and other goodies, and the presentation was very interesting because they cut the cucumber lengthwise into thin strips so they were very long, as opposed to the circular pieces you get from cutting it across.

Also decent service, good music and obviously the usual selection of bevvies you'd expect to find at an Irish pub. The decor/atmosphere seems a bit grungy when you're there on a quiet weekday night as opposed to a busier weekend night when you've likely had a couple and won't notice such things, but again, to be expected at a downtown Irish pub whose business is based on beer sales.

I won't lie.  I kinda hate this place.
So why do I come here?

    PROS:
-No cover before 10 and even past 10 you can sweet talk
-Big space if you're holding an event or want a lot of people to come out (consequently the line goes fairly fast)
-Diverse array of seating options for the wide array of friends or non-commital types (aka- got some dancers? got some drinkers?  got some bar stars?  there are nooks of the bar that have different options for all your friends)
-Hands off-not as MANY creepers as other places (wow..i can't believe "not as many" constitutes as a Pro...i need to raise my standards).

    CONS
-Why?  This place is just so average.
-It's a really average environment that has hiked up prices like a club.
-when the place was almost empty I went to check my coat cuz I didnt' want to worry about it and the coatcheck was full... sooo very confusing.

Overall- this place is about who you come with. It's only a venue, people.  Don't come here to FIND a good time.  Come here with people to MAKE a good time.

When in good company, this place is fine. But then again, in good company the parking lot at Walmart can be a good time.

There's nothing extraordinary about Ceili's. The food is pubby, the drinks are priced in accordance with the Granville Entertainment Strip Law of overpricing, and the music sounds like an iPod that hasn't been updated for a few years. The atmosphere just sags -  especially when there's a bikini contest going on (huh?)

The thing that lacks the most here is character - sure it has that plastic paddy thing going on, but that's it. I'd never make this my first destination, but I have had my share of fun times with birthday parties for friends coming downtown from the suburbs, fundraising events and corporate parties.

I've always been treated very nicely by the servers here - even the friskers at the front. And this past week, when I was there for a birthday, the bartender accidentally sprayed our faces with some water  - and then bought us our round, which was very nice of him.

Maybe a 2.5 star...but still, meh, moving on!

In terms of Irish pubs, Ceili's is a bit a of a poser.  The Ceili's in Calgary was a watering hole for downtown types, business folk and those who like to spend too much money for slow service and expensive drinks.  This is pretty much the opposite of what a good Irish pub should be and this Vancouver location is just the same, in fact, I couldn't differentiate anything from this pub and the two in Calgary.

When we came for St.Patrick's Day this past March, it seemed like the perfect locale for after-parade drinks.  And it was. Until the bill came 3 hours later and we were drunk and in shock that 3 people could rack up a bill that hefty in such a short time and with so little booze.  Yikes!

No Irish in Ceilis Irish Pub,  its not really an Irish Pub they just named it that to attrach party goers and drunks.
the set up in Ceilis is like 10 different rooms, the space wasn't very well planned out (a fire trap). trying to walk around from room to room is tence I could see lots of fights happening. People are always rubbing against you, its gross.
Crowd is okay but drinks are priced high.

Pronounced like "Kay-lee's", Ceili's is the best Irish bar in downtown Vancouver.  It's just off the Granville strip in the direction of the Orpheum theater and has 3 levels of Guiness flavoured fun.

Our hero has come here with both colleagues from a conference and at night when it gets a little bawdy.  Somewhere after 10 PM on the weekends it gets pretty rowdy, especially if they're auctioning off broads for charity or it's students' night.

    PROS:
    - By day it's respectable pub, and by night it gets pretty rowdy and nightclubby.
    - The best heated roof top patio in downtown Vancouver.

    CONS:
    - Food's fairly mediocre and not worth your buck.
    - A bit pricey.

I happen to be a huge fan of this place for a multitude of reasons.
First and foremost, I find the staff incredibly friendly (once you get through the doors, like most bars/pubs, the doorman have a tendency to be a little precocious, but that is nothing new). The engergy is fun, if you're not looking for an uppity-bar full of girls in tight dresses and heels they can barely walk in, this is the place for you. Its chill when you want it to be and rowdy when you need it to be (especially on Wednesday nights, best draft night in the city).

I noticed a lot of my college friends went here, so the crowd is pretty decent if you're there on the weekend. Their draft night is typically pretty young in the early hours but turns into an older more mature crowd around 11pm.

They do have an outdoor patio and full lunch/dinner menu which I cannot comment on as I have never eaten there. I have attended some fundraising and social media events there, they honestly have one of the best venues in the city if you're looking to hold a social gathering of any kind.

    Good times had by all!!

Oh God, oh God, my ears are bleeding.

Now I'm not sure if it was a Killers cover band playing, or if they just really, really like their songs.  Either way respect just flew out the window.  I'm going to assume the crowd dancing a storm for the band was blind drunk, else wise my faith in humanity just left with my respect.

The place is packed on a weekend night.  The crowd is a strange hybrid of pub goers, the Blarneystone crowd, and trashy Granville clubbers, the Caprice crowd.  The drinks are vastly over priced and are served by girls who likely moonlight at Brandi's.  Nay, not Brandi's, that place has class, Number 5.  See my other reviews for opinions on those places.

Ceili's is a poor contribution to the world of Irish bars.    Drinking yourself into oblivion is the only reason I can conceive of coming here for.  Just make sure you bring at least four credit cards to afford the booze.

Oh and ear plugs, you'll also want those.

Depending on where you stand on Granville- you might find yourself outside the Lennox, Doolins, or Ceili's.  From the outside, they all appear the same to me.

Regarding Ceili's the drinks are a bit expensive.  Someone at my table had a bottle of Carona, that had me hankering for a taste of lime. So I too got one, but really- seven dollars?  Call me cheap- cause that is what I am.

I've had a good time here, been about twice.  I've only been on off nights- Wednesdays I believe.  The crowd has been moderately sized.  On the weekends, I think this place is pretty crowded with people stopping in before and after other destinations.

"Every Thursday Night, Come to Ceili's Pub... every thursday night, come to ceili's pub!"..that is the chant that I will remember in my head from Mike and Pete (oh man I hope I got the names right)... they are the guys on the dual pianos on Thursdays at Ceili's. THEY ARE AWESOME! The crowd was good - I know there were fundraisers happening and a silent auction but the place was full. Too bad I got there late and was hungry but the music kept me going!
If you like live music, here's your place.. you can make requests and I honestly think they know how to play everything..what talent!
I think they are opening their upstairs patio for the summer. Should be exciting!

Best time to go is not at night but during the day.  Great place to chillout and people watch while grabbing a quick and tasty bite.  The multi-level floors are mostly empty, which means you can get a great spot overlooking Granville Street.  Food and drinks come quickly but not exceptional or Irish in any way.  I find the noise level at Ceilis to be more conducive to conversation than the Lennox, but the Lennox a better place to watch games and get energized.

OK, so most already know this one but I still feel I want to write a bit about why I like it so much. Besides having two very spacious and attractive levels to eat, drink and socialize in, they have a wide variety of performers that entertain patrons on regular occasions. They have two bars to order from per floor so you won't get thirty. Prices are more than reasonable and food items are quite tasty as far as pub fare goes. Washrooms are isolated stalls if that is an issue for you and if you are a sports fan they have most of the important games on during the relevant season. I wouldn't come if you are a Glasgow Rangers fan, however. That's not an issue for me, mind you. GO CELTIC!

Too much tacky "Irish" decor - including probably offensive statuary as you wait for the elevator, BUT... it's way better than the Lenox, and the Guinness is usually PERFECT.

We prefer the 2nd floor bar to the 3rd floor.  The 3rd floor doesn't have a roof, so if it's chilly, they turn on those overhead bar heater thingies, which mean that the part of you nearest the heater gets practically crispy, while the part of you facing away from it is chilly.  Also, the 2nd floor bar has a bar that you can actually sit at, which we like, and it's cozier than upstairs.  And there are TVs.

On either floor, you can get a pint of Kokanee for $5.50 - or you can get a bottle for the same price (that's weird, isn't it?) - and that's a good value for a beer in these parts.  Otherwise... it's a faux Irish pub in Vancouver, which means it is over-priced.  But like I say, there's that usually PERFECT Guinness, and my husband adores the waitresses in their tiny school girl skirts.

So it's all good.  Fine place to kick back, decent pub grub, excellent Guinness, and it's very clean and family-friendly for a place on the Granville strip.  At least, in the afternoon.  We haven't been here at night, so can't offer an opinion about the scene after dark.

I will only go to ceilis if I don't have to pay cover and If I'm already tipsy. Otherwise it will be an expensive nite...
The live band is pretty chill and the crowd is ok, I mean you can't expect too much, right?
I've been there for a UFC fight and it was great because you don't have to pay to get in to see the fights and they  don'tbaloon the prices on drinks for those types of occasions.
Oh yah, the waitresses have the sluttiest uniforms ever, and they have to pay for them when they are hired HAHAHA!

    If you USED to be:
a snobbish 'cool' kidl, a socially inept jock, or a raging daddy's girl who slept with mostly all of your prom dates since the 10th grade- and you need a place to drink and reminisce with your fellow moronic, braindead halfwits, look no further, Ceili's Irish Pub is for you to work and drink in!

Set in Vancouver's dingy, faux-fun nightlife district of Granville Street, Ceili's attempts to give itself a grungy, every-man's bar personality.  It borrows an Irish name and title to make it have some ethnic attachments in hopes that Irish people will clap at the attempt to diversify Vancouver's Caucasian population.

In reality, the front and excuse for an Irish pub is a hole in the wall and mecca for highschool social burnouts who still try to hold on to whatever bit of dominance in social status they have left.

The men can be best exemplified as irrational primate creatures who, instead of sporting fur and flinging poo, sport UFC-sponsored gear and fling sports stats that were from eras before they were born in an attempt to assert their animalistic pride in the dirty, sweaty crevices of the jungle- or 'Port Moodys', if you would.  If any person sporting anything outside of a vintage 'bro' like college shirt enters the premise, male grunts will mock and induce mosh-pit tenancies to arouse attention to their primate counterparts and their less-than female mating brutes.

The females are pretty much what you'd expect of a low-rent bar. Just that, low rent.  So caked with makeup are their faces that yeast infections seem to be transmitted only with a glance.  The stench of cheap perfume and alcohol, while attempting to borrow a line and hopeful ambiance from the 'Don't Stop Believing' song is outright insulting to the sense of smell and the band Journey.  These women scour the bar for anything they thought was cool in the 90's, that played a sport but didn't go pro, and can buy a cheap shot of house whiskey for the trade of a nipple flash.

While you may think that the description is pretty much that of a sleazy dive bar, even dive bars have standards.  Ceili's falls so far below that standard that it seems apparent that all hope in humanity is lost when even staring at the entrance to this place...it seems like the gates of hell are inviting you to bask in its flaming glory.

There are bouncers at this 'pub' the first time I've seen the need for two hefty fat boys in cheap suits and James Bond wanna-be earpieces...yet another great facet of a post highschool meet up- clinging to authority and hope.

The service is ok for what it is, but that's not saying much. It advertises itself as a cool and relaxing place to be, and the servers give you relaxation by taking your mind off when next will you have to anticipate a Corona bottle being thrown over your head because you don't watch UFC.  If you're not ordering anything over $10, even at first glance, these MTV Teen Mom wannabes will be sure to tell you to make room for the big $15 high rollers.

This place is about as bad as it gets for a firm collection of losers who couldn't give up the highschool glory and the sensation of watching fight sports not for the talent but for the chance to say, "WHOA BRO! BLOOOD".  Sad really.  Lots of normal people in Vancouver come to this establishment hoping for a good time, only to be driven away by nitwits who think that the Prom is still a cool choice.  If you ask me, it's good we have a place like this to collect all the idiots into one place, better have this ghettoed water hole than to have its filth spew out.

This place is terrible. the drinks aren't even cheap, the band is old and grating, and each of the two times I've had to unfortunate experience of being forced to check this place out I've had an insatiable urge to fight some biddie with a terrible attitude.

Crappy crowd, lame drinks, sweaty atmosphere.

If i never have to enter another "Irish" bar for the rest of my life, consider me a happy woman

I have no words to describe how much I am in love with Ceili's Vancouver and the less "clubby" atmosphere. It actually has irish music playing some nights from live bands, hosts "kitchen parties" and traditional irish dinners.  My boyfriend and I definitely enjoy going there for hockey games as a part of the PPV club where you drink beers then win jerseys  whoot!  [i now am a fan of  hmmm......can't remember....when does hockey start again??]

Check out Ceili's for a pint and to relax in a fun atmosphere, before it turns into an all and out pub.

This is pretty much the only place I like to come dancing in Vancouver. It has it's good and bad moments. It's got its grungy moments. I've got some awesome memories there. Best part is that there isn't any cover before 9pm. The food isn't too bad. Only I find their food ridiculously expensive for what it is.

This was the place I fell in love with Alexander Keith. :-)

Came here last summer. We went up to the top floor/patio since it was a hot day. Now let's get down and dirty:

You can tell a kitchen is not run properly when the waitress tells you they don't have any more calamari or even fries! There were a few other things they didn't have but I forget. I think I ended up having their salmon burger. Nothing gold worthy there. Prices are pretty high so I didn't get drunk. If it weren't for a pretty hot live singing girl with a guitar and waitresses wearing ridiculously short skirts, It would get just 1-star.

Ok place for meetups but the food is marginal and both the food and decor are hardly "Irish".

I don't expect anything special from an Irish pub on the Granville strip: just good beer and prompt service.

On a few occasions, I've been pleasantly surprised at Ceili's. I've always been here when it has been relatively quiet: like Wednesday after work drinks, or a Monday meet with friends. Each time I've received great, friendly service truly befitting of the Pub title.

I appreciate Ceili's selection of darker beers on tap (although the specifics have currently escaped me). Haven't sampled from the menu. The patio is a lovely spot, for a pub patio anyway, and if the bar is quiet you'll enjoy the place to yourself.

Note to self: Thursdays feature dueling grand pianos...might be worth checking out.

This place is good if you go on a wednesday. They have dollar half sized beers on that day which i would have to say is a good size. That is probably the reason why there were lineups around the corner at  like 3 in the afternoon in the summer. They play good music and a dance floor for those who like to dance.I do believe they charge cover as well.
