Back when i used to live in the sleepy Cambie Village, i had no idea that this time of year, most of Vancouver's citizens are cramming themselves into pubs and bars and whipping themselves into a frenzy over some sort of sports game that involves passing a black disc around on ice with sticks made of wood. Flash forward to the present, living on 12th and Commercial and trying to find a place to get a cheap pub meal and a drink on any given hockey night. It's impossible. If you see anyplace with empty seats it's because they have the sports channel on so loud that people's ears start bleeding.

Little did i know, salvation is only a 15 minute walk away at Cedar Cottage Neighbourhood Pub! Sure, they play the hockey game, but it isn't obnoxiously loud, the patrons seem like regulars and it is indeed possible to find a place to sit since the place is so roomy. I imagine it would get pretty packed for bigger sporting events, but if you're into that sort of vile thing, they have a CRAZY amount of TVs everywhere,

The inside of the pub is as cozy and friendly as their name makes it sound, and the staff were all super nice! My bf and i sat next to the huge stone fireplace and had a nice dinner consisting of french onion soup and hot wings. Pleasant side note: Their wings came with veggies and dip! None of that 'add a few measly carrot sticks for $2 extra' bullshit. The prices were good, and they had a big variety on their menu too. After the hockey game ended, they put on some AWESOME music! Total new wave 80s, which was a pleasant surprise.

I don't think i'd want to come here to party it up, but as a low key pub with good service and food, it's a winner!

Perhaps my favourite pub in the Cedar Cottage part of town!

That being said, I'm not going to give it a four or five star rating just because I like it.

The food here is a hit or miss. I've been here at times when service is great but food quality is mediocre. I'd order the same dish on different occasions just to be faced with inconsistency.

Tonight, the food was good. Had an amazing French Onion Soup - ideal for 5 degree weather - along with a pint of Guinness that was on special. Our server, although she was very sociable, was missing half the time. It shouldn't take 30 minutes to take our orders and another 30 to return with our drinks.

Regardless of complaints, I can always count on Cedar Cottage for a fun time with friends. Lots of communal seating, a cozy atmosphere, pool tables and televisions in every corner.

It deserves a fourth star but I'd love to see some consistency before I tack it on.

Parking available along the street, side streets and private lot in the back.

Cute pub, with a fireplace to boot!  It's kind of a secret place because when you first look at it from the outside, you just see the coffee shop and the wine shop.  But you go downstairs and there is an awesome little bar with a back patio and a fireplace going.

We just came here for a drink after the Dosa UYE, and I just had a glass of wine. So I can't report much more.  But I love the space and plan to come here for a Stitch 'n Bitch party!

Why go to Cedar Cottage Pub:
You are marking papers and need somewhere that will supply chicken strips, fries and cider.
You want to watch a hockey game and don't have cable
You want some not very good beer and entertaining locals
You want to feel like you're at a basement party.
You want a beer and live in the vicinity of Cedar Cottage.
You have a bunch of friends together and want to play Keno and eat ok pub food.

I'm not the worlds hugest fan of Cedar Cottage. I find the beer to be sad, especially given that they have so many good options upstairs, and I find the food to be meh at best but it does serve it's purpose.

The staff are super friendly, the wings are okay and it's generally a good local watering hole where you don't have to worry too much about finding a seat or getting all dolled up before going out.

Had an awesome server last night who was pleasant, quick, and did a great job.

I had the veggie burger which was actually really good and piled super high with roasted veggies, mushrooms and cheese.  Heck yeah!  The fries were meh, but the burger was so big I could hardly eat the fries anyways.

Again no pitcher specials, but the pint special was all right.  I think I am liking this place!

Cedar Cottage. Service changed 3 times, was dippy but fun and the job got done.

Presentation of the plates was pleasing and the yam fries were good. The share platter, calamari and nachos weren't bad.

Fun playing NTN but my neck hurts from looking up. The numerous TV's are all placed too high!

Adorable little pub in the Knight and Kingsway area (coincidentally next door to a kick-butt South Indian restaurant, so a great place to wash down that spicy food...)

We counted and there were at least 16 TV screens so you can't help but have a prime seat for the game. Good prices, prompt service, friendly staff and the usual selection of beers/ciders/spirits you would expect. Also there is a patio if you're here in the summer and overall just a really laid back and chill atmosphere. Fun times!

Atmosphere: From the outside it doesn't look like much, I would probably drive by it not thinking twice or let alone an interest in the place. It has character in the Cozy sort of way. It's a cozy pub with a fire place, perfect considering how cold it was this evening outside. GPS the location 'cause it is hard to miss. This is good for crowds and a casual drink. I went today as part of a yelp Stitch and Bitch which was cool. The other patrons were cool, not as creepy as other pubs that I have been to.

Service: The service was okay, nothing stellar, however, nothing bad either. The waitress went through the emotions and didn't make an extra effort. I was torn with my tip and decided not to tip considering that it was just okay service with no enjoyment or customer service added. I got a few smiles, which seemed forced and obliged which is something I don't like.

Food: My Pizza sauce tasted coincidently like PC brand Spicy sauce. I understand that it is a pub and lowered my food expectations accordingly. I have no problem with bottled food, especially with pub fair. It is expected from me, however, the sauce that was chosen, didn't work with the pizza and in fact gave my vegetarian pizza somewhat of a bitter after taste. I still ate it since I was hungry.

Price: It was decent, however, $10 for a thin crust single pizza seemed a bit much, however, still much more reasonable than other pub foods. Maybe if the sauce was better, I wouldn't care so much for the price.

    Well who knew ?
From the outside it doesn't look like much.
A cute neighbourhood Wine shop is all you see. But step inside, go down the stairs et voila! It's a local hangout.

A lot of seating, many TV's and a large fire place.
There is even a covered back patio! That's probably a well kept secret, (until I came around.)
There's a full menu, burgers, fries and all the pub grub norms.

What can I say but --- we will be back!

*Thanks to Reena M and lovely miss Cyndi too. :)

The Cedar Cottage Pub is a cozy watering hole in the Kensington Cedar Cottage, and by hole, I don't mean hole-in-the-wall, but hole in the ground! It's below street level on Kingsway. Pretty cool little place to venture down into. Wear your flats, ladies.

If you're hungry their burgers are solid. My fave comes with blue cheese and always leaves me with a doggy bag to take home. They don't skimp on their portions so sharing is a good option.

The space is warm and inviting complete with pool tables, a fireplace, a raised dining area, comfy arm chairs and a long Cheers-esque bar. From what I hear, policemen and firemen like to hang out here. That's a word to the gals: here's where you can meet a man in uniform! If nothing else, you know you'll always be safe here : )

The drinks are pretty decent for a pub I mean, it's not a place to go for snazzy cocktails but if you like man drinks, you're in luck. Beer is what's popular but even girly ol' me can get that Bellini I've been craving. Pretty impressive if you ask me.

Great place to kick back with friends in an unpretentious and friendly space.

Great place to watch the game. Lots of TVs and a huge projection screen and theres just a fun, loud atmosphere. There are pool tables, Keno, fireplace and a outdoor patio as well.

Sadly though the food is "OK". Reasonably price but nothing special. Definitely a place to hang out at and have a few drinks/snack with the game on.

Decent pub food and glad that it's so close to home so I can drop in here and just stumble home anymore.

Don't love the service.  Always one girl here who seems to have no interest working and always socializing with other customers causing her to slow down our order.  She always mixes up our order and brings something else totally different to the table asking us if we wanted this item as the kitchen screwed up our order and it went to another table already.  If we wanted our order it would be another 20 minutes.  I hate that.  I came here to pay for good service and I don't get it but have to pay for poor slow unapologetic service.  Booooo

I'm going for 4 stars largely because of the location and the pub itself - this below ground lair is really a neat place to go hang out.  Definitely the best spot anywhere around for watching a hockey game with ample TVs - been there quite a few times since I moved in to the area.

The food quality is more around 3 stars in my opinion.  It's not terrible, but not fantastic either.  Seems to be a little inconsistent really, at times it will be quite good, but then the next time you'll order the same thing and find it lacking.  I think a little more focus on the food would propel this place towards being a top pub in the city.

The other area I'd love to see addressed is the beer selection.  While they do have quite a bit there's virtually nothing for the dark beer fans out there - really even getting anything as dark as a pale ale is a bit of a challenge.  I'd love to see Cedar Cottage bring in something like R&B Brewing for a good local beer on tap.

I know that sounds bad - fix the food and the beer and you've got a terrific pub - that's why I was torn between 3 and 4 stars.  I just don't know of any other underground pubs with a fireplace and an outdoor patio!  Coupled with the lack of places in the area you really have no choice but to enjoy it.

I will definitely be back again and again regardless.

So glad the bottled beer has gotten colder and the draft taps are being maintained better. The food has always been consistent. We love ballpark wings!

Also, very convenient to have the cold beer and wine upstairs.

I will give Cedar Cottage another star if they can keep the beer cold and clean!

This is what all neigbourhood pubs want to be. Lots of Tv's Good food, and a nice beverage selection.

We ended up her because Cedar cottage pub is one of the last places in Vancouver where you can play NTN, or as it is now know as Buzztime

We ordered the share platter $15... great deal but specify if you want the baseball wings, Thai, hot or sweet and sour,

Calamari was good for a bar, and the Natcho's were 75%, the could have layered the toppings as opposed to piling all on top and covering with cheese, but they did offer Meat ($2.50) and real Guacamole ($2.50)

Background: I'm not into the sports bar scene but a friend just introduced me to this place and this is what I thought.

    Food: Didn't eat here.

Ambiance: It's a great sports bar without any of the "high-end" frills that you get downtown such as vinyl seating and intimate booths - IMO entirely unnecessary.  Enthusiastic Flyers fans were packing in on a game night, mostly jerseyed guys 20-40.  Carpeting and compartmentalized wooden tables are kinda cool and definitely not filthy like many places on the Kingsway strip.

Service: Ok although not the typical flirtfest you get at an Earls/Moxies type venue.

    Pricepoint: Pints on special $5.

Overall: This place is ok for a pint and the game.  I can't really comment on too much else.

Went there awhile back (Jan.11) by bus (handy-ish...Clark Drive) and enjoyed the seats by the fire place. Went there expressly for the purpose of playing TNT trivia or whatever it's called, but were gazumped by the regulars who must know every question by heart now, after something like two million visits. Food was good, nothing special. Pints were good, nothing special. Prices were reasonable, nothing special. But it's a nice boozer even though they've too many TVs and a pool table enroute to the mens, spoiling the overall decor/ambience.

I went here last night to meet a friend who lives around the corner. I'm sad I never checked it out before. They have the beer I like on tap (Rickards white, Stella Artois, etc).. I had the poutine off the menu, which was okay and then I doused it in ketchup (tipsy!) Mmm.

Really it's just a regular pub, but it's a nice distraction from the downtown places that I try to avoid. I am going to come here more often. And it's pretty clean & the bartender(s) are pretty okay too.

Cute pub. Nice and big with a good atmosphere. They have your average pub food, burgers, nachos, etc. I had a Greek salad with chicken when I was here that was solid. I don't drink beer so I can't comment on that, but the wine list was fine. Service was minimal, so it's a good place if you like unobtrusive servers.

This is a cute little neighbourhood pub that is pretty popular among those that live near there. They get very busy on hockey nights so my advice to you would be to get there early or go when the game is over if you dont watch hockey. They have a full service kitchen that produced good food. They make great wraps. Just a warning to those that smoke pot that this pub is owned by a cop so dont smoke pot around there if you dont want to get caught.
