Not really thinking about Burgasm 2011, I popped into Castle for a bite to eat. I had noticed it in B-town for quite some time, but I hadn't had a chance to go inside.

This place is probably the most confused place I've ever been to.

For one thing, the setup is not unlike your typical restaurant: Bar area and dining area. No problem. However, the theme within both areas seem to be 'bar', as there are TV's hanging everywhere, depicting both MuchMusic and Sports. Not to mention the pool table, juke box, and lovable boxing arcade game, which randomly spews out "Eye of the tiger", as a way of apparently luring in people who are currently living inside Sylvester Stallone's shadow. Good thing!

Here's where it gets odd. Their menu suggests something more than a regular bar. In fact, their menu seems rather thorough, Everything from almost 2 pages of apps, to burgers, to pasta, to ribs, to fish, to meatloaf, to steak, to an oddly fancy dessert menu, they seem to have all of their bases covered, as far as regular-dining goes.

The lone waitress, while pretty attractive, was very courteous and prompt with taking my order. She also seemed a tad distracted with either a colleague or boyfriend in the place, who seemed really bummed out the entire time I was there. In any case, it was interesting to watch, as I've never seen a server servicing a customer AND keeping a friend happy at the same time, all the while keeping up with her text messages. Go, her!

I'd hate to change character so late in the game, so I ordered their "signature" burger. Once arrived, I had to do a Alien-esque dissection, to figure out what the hell was so signature about it. While the bun and lettuce were fresh, and the bacon was cooked perfectly, the patty was about as big as the palm of my hand. Furthermore, it was undercooked! Not the worst burger I've had recently, but pretty underwhelming. As for the side, the french fries were cooked fine, and came with an unidentifiable dip that complimented them rather well. On top of that were 2 onion rings, which were almost burnt, but hell, they weren't even supposed to be there, so I can let that slide. The bill also came promptly upon completion.

I can't condone almost 20 dollars for a sub-par burger and decent fries, but that's what it came to. I'm not sure if I'll return, but judging by how dead the place was at dinner time, I'm not even sure if it'll be there the next time I give it another chance.

At its core, this place isn't that bad. Decent prices, great selection on tap, food is ok, and they have some good deals (depending on the day of the week). The problem is the staff have made it a habit to over serve patrons who do not need anymore, which is often a recipe for an awkward or sad scene. I have been going here for about a year and have already witnessed at least 5 completely avoidable scenes involving a customer who has had too much and was making a scene.

The last straw came early this week, when I witnessed a patron so drunk, he tipped over his bar stool, while he was still sitting in it! The man could've easily smashed his head onto the concrete floor and suffered severe injury. To make matters worse, there wasn't staff on hand to deal with the situation -- other patrons at the bar had to step in and escort the individual out. To put it succinctly, this place is GHETTO!
