An awesome way to waste the time you have to get rid of, Cash Converters is full of secondhand CDs, DVDs, blu-rays, and their recent addition, vinyl. A good subtitle for this place would be Treasure Hunters because not only is it an extremely lame name, but because the people stalking its aisles are there to LOOT and PLUNDER and dig up treasure!
My favorite finds here:
- first-run prints of Sanjuro and Seven Samurai Criterion DVD. For $30 each. I passed and got the brand-new blu-rays instead.
- American Movie. I screamed when I saw it, and people around me got concerned.
- a rare bootleg copy of Traffic's Criterion release which I haughtily returned the next day, saying its only defect is "it is a bootleg and unworthy of my collection".
- non-bootleg copies of La Strada and Kicking and Screaming (NOT the Will Ferrell abomination) on Criterion.
- Bjork's "Debut" which I forced Kenny M to buy, and which to this day I am certain remains unopened. SHAME!
They are master scammers when you have something to give them (what do you mean N.E.R.D.'s sophomore classic "Fly or Die" is only worth 50 cents?? It has a cameo by Good Charlotte's Benji Madden for Petessakes!!), but when you find a rare movie or album, and you realize you only need to pay six bucks for it, it somewhat makes up for it.

I return to this Cash Converters time and time again.
Maybe it's the $3.00 DVD section that is buy 5 get 1 free.
Maybe it is the friendly Eastern European dude who always seems so happy to know that all is right in the world when Kenny and I come in on a Friday afternoon.
But whatever it is, if this Cash Converters was a bar, it would definitely be my local.
Where everybody knows your name (they actually don't)
and they're always glad you came. -

Great place for rare and old movie finds, with the sun setting on blockbuster, I have a feeling that I'll be frequenting this place more for my collection building.
The few times I've visited this place, I've been able to score films, games, and tv shows I would normally ditch @ hmv or eb games because it would be too expensive. I don't mind second hand, in fact I like to brag I buy second hand because A: I represent for the common man and sneer at high society B: it's better in my shelf than on the landfill C: I do what I want, when I want, wherever I want, however I want, whyever I want!
As for the other items they carry, I honestly don't bother with it. I like my more complex electronics like computers and television brand spanking new, with warranty. I do have several items I'm looking to part with for a little cash, so I hope to come back and try it out @ cash converters! -

Cash Converters! Wow! This place is interesting to say the least! Its basically a chain pawn shop with more of an open feel. I have to say i come here quite a lot! sometimes weekly to make my rounds with my pal Dan D.
Cash Converters is all about the waiting game, You walk in week after week and hope that something is waiting for you hidden in a pile somewhere! and then, when you see that rare item you almost pee yourself! Of all the times I have come here( at least 30 times over the years) I have only had that "AHH HAA" moment happen 3 times. Once it was an old and quite rare Korg SDD 2000 digital delay (for guitar). I was completely floored!!!, so so exited and it was only 130.00, I felt like I had won the lottery, it sounds SO great!.
Another time Me and Dan D had been looking for one of the best documentary's of all time "American movie" after a series of fruitless cash converters expeditions we came one day.Dan (with his uncanny ability of finding diamond in the rough) sniffed it out like a bloodhound! All I remember is that we cheered ! and another time I found a Tascam DAT recorder that was a steal for 140 bucks! woah! The thrill of finding a jewel in the poop pile is a great feeling!
So now I have to talk about the dark side of cash converters. Often times they price quite a few used items WAY to close to the original retail price. Guitars, drums, multitrack recorders etc... In some cases I have seen a few of these used items at the same price or even more expensive than the new one would have cost! GASP! Its shameful, and I have a feeling they price this way simply because they know parents or naive beginners come into a pawn shop and assume they will get a deal on a used instrument little do they know... I feel bad that it happens. So many people have know clue! Shame on you cash converters and pawn shops! shame on you! Either way I think cash converters needs to get their stale stock moving by having prices that are more fair. They just try to squeeze out every last drop of profit!! on some of their items.
Either way I still love coming hear to look through DVDs and CDs and sometimes the occasional music gear (when a gem drops in) I recommend it to anyone who likes to look out for stuff and wait. Also they do bring in old nes, atari, Sega genesis, and snes games (if you like collecting them) not a great selection though. So to end, just keep coming in and wait for that gem to appear! Persistence is key! Cash converters is quite unique, come and check it out!Listed in: Get it and get it cheap!, Plastic music!

Cash Converters is an excellent place to pick up someone else's garbage for a low price. The place carries all manner of second-hand sporting goods, electronics, musical equipment, CDs, video games, and more. Usually, people come here to sell them stuff when they're low on cash.
What makes Cash Converters different than a pawn shop is that there's no assumption that the poor jackal selling his stuff will ever get it back. They literally buy goods from people and sell them. It's not a loan service.
Often, they get some good stuff however. I personally prefer the look, feel, and quality of new electronics and whatnot, but every now and again someone lets go something of real value and it ends up on the shelves in this place.
Worth a look every now and again. But don't try selling anything here. They give almost no money and they also treat you fairly poorly. Plus, they have a guy that sits there grilling you trying to get you to give him the lowest price possible. And this, they always get. Don't sell to them. It's a total rip-off.
