Review from Toshi I.
We were late in making reservations and happened upon this hotel as it was one of the few available. It happens to be under reconstruction in the pool area but located in downtown Victoria semi- close to all public transportation. Across the street at the convenience store (7 11?), you can purchase train tickets. Upon arriving, I noticed scaffolding all over. Even looking out our window, there was scaffolding. A bit taken back, that didn't deter me. I have to say the lobby area is modern, clean and cozy with a nice fireplace and two pcs to check your email/look up info.
I was bummed the pool wasn't available but the service here is great. The guy at the front desk was awesome in his recommendations of transportation and where to eat. In addition, the breakfast served here is excellent and the dining area is very comfortable. -

Could it have been the weary traveller droopy eyed I just wanna hop into bed look? The crazy tourist snapping pictures at 2 am in the morning or whoa he's got Yelp buttons on his fanny pack? I wonder...
Anyway we booked for a standard suite and got upgraded to an executive suite awesome!
There are many hotels in downtown Vancouver with the same caliber but we chose this one due to three deciding factors:
1. Location
2. Complimentary Full Breakfast
3. Free Wi-Fi
This hotel was conveniently located. The complimentary buffet style breakfast offered a pretty good spread - pancakes, bacon, eggs, potatoes, pastries, juices and more... Yummy! Wi-Fi access was available in the lobby and in the room. There's also an indoor pool, a gym and a restaurant.
Thank you Cascadia! This hotel was beautiful and we had such a super time...
Great customer service! Next time in Vancouver we'll be back... -

Pretty disappointed to find out that my view was of a trashbin sitting on the scaffolding outside of my window. Also both the pool and the gym were closed, and they were offering free use of another pool which was a 15 minute drive away to which they weren't providing transportation.
The walls are paper thin and I was up until 1:30am listening to my neighbors.
After all of this I requested a discount from the management and I was told they would not be able to give me any. Pretty disappointed that I spent $425 on a two night stay here. -

Just got back from a fabulous 2 night stay at the Cascadia. Got a great rate on Expedia ($89/nt) (parking additional $19nt) First room air conditioning not working well, maintenance called & arrived quickly. Unable to fix so he (Romeo) got us quickly moved to the room directly across the hall. Ended up being a MUCH better room. First room, facing East, had no views to speak of & construction going on behind the hotel. New room had peekaboo views of the water to the West & mountains to the North. (11th floor room 1111)
Very friendly and helpful front desk staff, especially Jen.
Walking distance to Robson street, shopping and restaurants. Just a few blocks down to the Aquabus/Ferry Dock to Granville Island.
Full hot breakfast buffet very substantial. 2 Kinds of eggs, bacon one day, sausage the next. Hashbrowns. Pancakes one day, french toast the next. Fruit, cereal (cold & hot) breakfast breads, juice, coffee tea. The patio is a nice place to take your second cup of coffee & complimentary newspaper.
Decent workout room with 2 treadmills, 1 elliptical, one stationary bike, free weights & universal gym. Pool a little small, but big enough for me. Hot tub big enough to fit 6 comfortably, but luckily my husband & I always had it to ourselves. (103 degrees)
Small kitchenette in our room was perfect for our 2 night stay. 2 burner stovetop, microwave, coffee pot, small fridge & dishwasher. Dishes, glassware, silverware & cookware all stocked properly. If I stayed here for 4 or more nights I'd book a full kitchen room.
Would definitely stay here again and recommend it to everyone! -

I was more than disappointed with this hotel. I made the reservation for 4 people, but they insisted I only made it for two, and proceeded to charge us an additional $20 per night per person, which is pretty high. No where in their reservation confirmation did they explain this fee. They put their pet policy, even though I did not specify any pets. They put their child policy, even though I did not specify any children. They put all their other fees, but not their additional guest fee, which was oddly missing.
Let's also review what a Suite is: http://en.wikipedia.or...
If you look at wikipedia, or almost any other definition of a hotel suite, the KEY feature is multiple rooms. The suites here DO NOT have multiple rooms. They advertise suites, but they're actually studios. Sure, they have a kitchen inside, but this hotel should be called out for false advertisement. It's wrong to tell people that you're giving them a suite when you actually do not have suites at your hotel. The room was a studio.
Furthermore, the interior looked like it hasn't been updated since the 1970's. Granted, we were on vacation and were not planning to spend much time in the hotel, but we felt like our money was not well spent here. The rooms in Comfort Inn look more posh compared the old, fake wood plastic paneled furniture and the cheap craigslist-esque tables and chairs. I don't mean to sound snobby, but it was dark, dank, and we felt like we could have better spent our money elsewhere.
The reservation promised us a view of the ocean. If I leaned out over the railing and twisted my head in an odd direction, I might see a little water. Other than that, they managed to give us a fairly ugly view in a city famous for its beauty.
By the way, they're also starting to do construction on the building. The construction workers, and of course the hotel management, think it would be very convenient to start drilling and hammering at 7:30 a.m. If you value your sleep and rest, plain out avoid this place for at least the next few months.
Do yourself a favor and pay a little more for a Hilton or a Holiday Inn. You will have a far better experience. The only plus side to this hotel was that the breakfast was amazing. It's a full buffet with scrambled eggs, hash browns, pancakes, French toast, waffles, cereal, oatmeal, fruits, yogurt, juice, coffee, etc. Yet even that did little to get over the sour taste in our mouthes when we finally left this hotel. -

Vancouver, BC
OK, I'll be honest - I didn't stay at the Cascadia. However, my parents stayed here for two weeks while visiting from Ontario - and they gave me enough feedback that it felt like I stayed there! Plus, I visited both of their rooms (more on this in a moment), so I know what I'm talking about.
My dad booked online, and received a call from the hotel a few days before their arrival, saying how much they were looking forward to their stay. (I thought this was a nice touch.)
The first week, my parents regaled us with stories of the sumptuous breakfast buffet, the views of the neighbouring construction site (fascinating, watching the guys way up there...), the friendly staff (special mention to Emma), and the proximity to everything. My mom has knee problems, so the fact that they were a block away from several bus routes, a Tim's, and our condo, made everyone very happy!
They checked out for the weekend while we went to the Sunshine Coast, and got upgraded to a room with a balcony and a view when they checked back in! All the same kudos applied during this second visit, plus they had an amazing view of city, mountains, and ocean. My dad spent hours just sitting and gazing out the window!
Exceptional! No complaints whatsoever! Will be back for more! (I'm paraphrasing my folks here, but you get the idea...) -

As a solo traveller who packs light, this place is a good spot!
With one carry-on, this place is only 6-blocks from the Yaletown train stop. From the airport, you take one train (no train switching) for $3.75.
I choose this place because I heard (via TripAdvisor/Expedia) the beds were comfortable, the place is clean and they offer a good and FREE breakfast buffet!
When I arrived, I wasn't too happy with my room. The mini-fridge sound kept me up, and I didn't have earplugs. The next night, I asked hotel maintenance if I could unplug the mini-fridge. I also mentioned the wash basin was cracked and the shower drained slow.
The manager was informed of this and asked if he could put me in another room.
I took the offer and was quite happy they actually attempted to make my stay comfortable. (My reservation was for 5-nights).
The buffet breakfast was great, staff was really friendly and cool. Plus they have free internet access in the main lobby and it's walking distance to their downtown area.
If you are looking for a comfortable place without having to spend $200+, stay at Cascadia!
I stayed at Cascadia in mid-September, which is the start of off-season. -

This is an extended-stay hotel that also accepts one-night guests; every room has one or two Queen size beds and a FULL kitchen, as well as wifi and 63 channels on TV. Quiet, even though it's in downtown, and walkable distance to Gastown and the Art Gallery.
The breakfast buffet is ampleand open from 7-10am. There is a bistro in the building that has YAM FRIES on the menu, and they also can be ordered from room service. -
Review from Danie B.
We stayed here last weekend for our anniversary getaway. I give this place a 3 because our experience wasn't so bad but it wasn't the best either. Also, it was pretty expensive that I don't think the quality of the room was comparable to the price.
The hotel got really good reviews in other travel websites, so, we thought that the rate that we were getting for was reasonable. When we arrived, my thoughts completely changed. The front exterior of the hotel was being renovated, so instead of a view, we couldn't even part the curtains otherwise, contractors will be watching us as we changed, or slept. That was a minus because it made the room really dark. The hotel/room's interior is not very up to date. I agree that it did have craigslist looking furniture. The tv isn't even a flat screen tv. The room somewhat smell aged. The room was clean, just old. The bathroom gets a plus for having ventilation (if you read my older posts, you'll notice that ventilation in the bathroom is very important and could cost a star). Also, there are only 3 elevators in the whole building. It took awhile to get an elevator. And contractors were using the elevators with the guests, which is alright, unless you are holding a cup of coffee and they're standing next to you mixing a small bucket of cement or paint (which did happen, btw).
The breakfast is not so bad. It doesn't really change everyday but you do get quite some choices. You can have scrambled eggs, scrambled eggs with cheese, sausages, potatoes, oatmeal, a variety of cereal, waffle, pancakes, pastries, bagels, toast, fruit, yogurt, yogurt parfait, variety of juice (apple, oj, grapefruit, guava), coffee, and tea (i think that's about all.)
The staff (both the front desk and kitchen) is really helpful and very happy to assist you. The location is very good; it's not really in the very center of downtown but the touristy spots are easily accesible. Also, there's a tim horton's a couple of blocks away and a 7-11 right across the street (in case you need to buy stuff, etc). Also, the rooms get free-wifi, which was very important for us because that means we didn't need to get additional international data package added to our wireless account. That would cost an arm and a leg!
I think that this hotel is getting a generous rating, which is probably due to the fact that my boyfriend and I did have a very good stay in vancouver. I wouldn't stay here again though if I was given the choice. -

I usually don't bother reviewing hotels, as the vast majority are completely interchangeable. This place though really went above and beyond, best breakfast I've ever had at a hotel...The entire place had an air of quality, had a good night at a reasonable rate. Not touristy or snobby, I'm a happy camper.

Vancouver, BC
This was the hotel for my second 4-week stay in Vancouver.
Location is perfect, with good restaurants nearby (Bin 941 and Vera's burger shack to mention a few) and it's on walking distance from several attractions e.g. the Scotiabank movie theatre, Granville Island (which was my absolutely favourite place in the city) and Beach ave for your evening strolls.
Hotel fitted the travel budget I was given (with several other locations downtown exceeding it), the personnel is really polite and friendly. The room (superior suite) was on 19th floor with a view to the English Bay and Burrard street bridge, and few sunny afternoons I could have my own little terrace on the balcony. (Only thing I actually missed in Vancouver is the kind of open air terraces you can enjoy the fresh spring air with your pint. The few I found are on Beach ave.)
The house keeping takes care of every mess I might leave behind every day, take out the trash, clean the kitchen, dishes etc. Only one Sunday during the first 3 weeks the room wasn't cleaned when I got back to the hotel at 3 pm. They had a management person walking with lists in the corridors with several busy looking staff members making the rooms so I assume this was just some temporary glitch in their organisation. Other than that, no complaints.
The breakfast was more than I expected to find in a hotel on this continent. It seems to me that most hotels in USA call muffin, cereal and jam a breakfast, but being a low carb eater those offer me nothing. The other hotel I've stayed in Canada was a Best Western in Burnaby so I'm not making any conclusions about the canadian idea of a breakfast yet. :) (Other than that serverd in Café Medina, which I wrote a review here, too.)
This buffet on the other hand has bacon/sausages, eggs, youghurt and fresh fruits. There is also a wide selection of cereals, bread, jams, croissaints and muffins for those who are interested. They also vary the menu a bit in 3 day cycles so you are less like to get totally bored even during a longer stay. The coffee is also surprisingly decent. Compared to breakfasts in northern Europe, only things I missed were cheeses and fresh vegetables.
There is a coin laundry (2 dollars detergent, 2 dollars wash mashine, 2 dollars dryer), and a fitness center with running mats and some weights but not really a gym. (There is a Fitness World near, though.)
The hotel is not brand new anymore but still in very good condition - for those expecting a 5 star luxury it's perhaps better to look elsewhere, with a totally different price tag, too. But I was a really happy camper in this one! -
Review from Luisa D.
I would probably give this hotel 3.5 stars but as that's not possible there are enough reasons for me to give it 4. I've stayed in some very high end hotels and it wouldn't be fair to compare this place to them. It's not going to grab you with original artwork or premium amenities. For the price though you will get a clean, comfortable room with a couch and a little kitchen complete with pots, pans, dishes, stove (no oven), microwave, mini fridge/freezer, coffee maker and dishwasher. You'll also get a complimentary buffet breakfast in the morning and access to a pool/hot tub/gym. My daughter just turned 13 and I thought it would be fun to book two adjoining rooms for her party. This actually ended up being one of my more brilliant mum ideas. Because we had 2 rooms with the ability to sleep eight people she invited five friends and I invited one. The five friends didn't care that they were going to sleep in one room - they're teenagers so slumber parties aren't really about the 'slumber'. Meanwhile my friend and I had our own room to play Scrabble and watch movies in peace. My daughter and I arrived early to get set up. The clerk at check in was very friendly and welcoming. Once upstairs I prepped the taco fixings in one of the little kitchens. When her friends arrived we went down to the pool/hot tub. It ain't fancy but it was perfect for tiring out some teens about to be cooped up in a hotel room. We headed back to the room for tacos and DQ ice cream cake which luckily JUST fit in the freezer. After dinner the kids headed to their room and I got to relax with short breaks to prep snacks to keep them fuelled. It's amazing how well teens behave when they get to do something cool like stay in a hotel. Sure they made a mess but nothing a vacuum wouldn't pick up so leaving the housekeeper a decent tip was probably appreciated. The best part was that I didn't have to clean it up! I managed to get them all awake in time to hit the buffet and there was a pretty good selection to keep everyone happy and fed. A couple of things that impressed me about the hotel were the free Wi-Fi and their efforts to go green. Not only was there the usual recycling bin but there was one for composting. The location is very central and the rates are reasonable. I think this hotel would be ideal for a longer stay when you don't want to eat in restaurants for every meal.
