I don't know whether to rejoice or cry that Carter's ice cream is a pleasant walk from our house. On the positive side the ice cream is top notch and they really have HUGE scoops. It's a meal and a half on it's own. Don't get three scoops unless your a professional ice cream eater, seriously. The negative is that if I acted on my every whim to run down to Carter's for a few more scoops I would be 900 pounds. The best ice cream I've tasted in a long time.

Friendly. Adorable. Quaint.
These are just some of the words one can use to describe this ice cream shop in the Woodbine/Danforth neighbourhood.
This candy-stripe clad establishment is such a welcoming slice of summer to the area. There's a quiet sitting area for families off the Danforth with kid-size seats and adult-sized benches. The interior feels like a not-so-cheesy candy shop at the fair (complete with pink elephant popcorn). Adorn one wall is artwork from kids depicting their love for ice cream. Dare I say, it's adorable!
And though the flavours aren't anything innovative, it's still a great place to stop by for a late(ish) night ice cream run. The French vanilla in milkshake form is more delightful than words can say.
Oh and as a word to the wise - go in knowing that one scoop actually means two scoops. Yesterday I overheard a customer gleefully complain how big the single scoop was. The shopgirl rationalized it by simply saying "I couldn't get a wide scoop so I made it tall."
Works for me!Listed in: Woodbine and Danforth - Yup,…

Holy crap huge scoops. Like, "I know I'm fat, but seriously, people are going to look askew at me." Like, "How can you get away with charging me $3 for three litres of ice cream in this cone?" Like, "Seriously, I think some civil engineers will be upset with the structural integrity of this construction you have handed to me."
It's all Kawartha Dairy, the ice cream of my childhood. They regularly have Tiger Tail, the ice cream flavour of my childhood. There's a frequent-flyer free ice cream card, all the better to blow out my arteries with. They've got mini cookies and Reese's Pieces and free sprinkles and many other things to adorn your huge scoops of milk fat and sugar. (Though the way they often put the toppings on, they're liable to come off - and do, especially on cones.)
I go here way, way too often, and I'm just gonna keep going. -

I agree with the other reviewer the scoops are crazy big!!!!
We found this place (or should I say the kids did) last year, the owner is very helpful & has a quaint little old fashion ice cream shop. Kids art work of Carters or what they think of it adorn the walls.
The flavours are changed week to week so the variety is very good. Price is cheap for the serving you get. Inside seating and outdoor patio chairs. Parking is hard to come by, but if you live in the neighbourhood walk because your ass will thank you....milkshakes, sundaes and plenty of choices for sprinkles. Closes after Thanksgiving, re-opens in Spring. They also have take-home buckets of your favourite flavours. -

Confirmed:
- Kawartha Dairy: 20'ish flavours.
- Big scoops: I had a double and the 30C forced me into a Major League Eating chow-down.
- Sooo friendly: Hello, good-bye, please and thanks. Wow. Unheard of.
Additionally:
- Free sprinkles!
- Milkshakes!
- Floats! (incl. Cream Soda)
- Sundaes!
- Exclamations!
All of the previous reviewers nailed it on the head. Carter's kicks.
So long 31 flavours.

We found this place last year, just a few block from our house. I love how there are more and more local businesses opening in the area. This is a great neighbourhood ice cream parlour that serves Kawartha Dairy ice cream. The kid friendly service includes kid sized chairs on the quaint outdoor patio. Giant serving sizes always include free sprinkles. My personal favourite is the peanut butter chocolate on a sugar cone. Yum.
If you're on twitter, @cartersicecream sends out a weekly deals like free toppings or sugar cones.
