Forget all the stereotypes you've heard about accountants. After finding her on Yelp I called and she walked me through the process. Carla is a very sweet woman that is easy to talk to. I recently started my own business and she gave me great recommendations to help set it up.
I made an appointment with her to do my taxes. She told me to collect all my W2s and necessary forms. We met at her nice apartment and she was incredibly professional. In about an hour she had all my taxes completed, ready to file electronically, and gave me a well organized folder to retain my records with copies of everything. -

I called her up thinking I might need her help for a complicated job and she spent a good 10 minutes on the phone with me even though I was not as yet her client. She was very kind and knowledgeable and generous on the phone. Turns out that I figured out my taxes myself, but she was a tax angel and helped me allay my tax phobias. Highly recommended. Let's just say that our taxes were a veritable nightmare last year. In one year, two people managed to:
Move from Boston to NY, get laid off, collect unemployment, cash out a 401K, sell out stock options, go on 6 months of disability from an injury, have somewhere around 10 jobs between two people (freelance, full/part-time), get MARRIED, and bought a bunch of equipment for freelance jobs.
Needless to say, doing our own taxes was NOT an option. I think the only thing we DIDN'T do that might have complicated our taxes was have a baby.
Carla didn't even break a sweat as we opened folder upon folder of forms, receipts, and documents (at least we were organized!). She took our IRS mess and turned it into something manageable in about an hour and a half. We went the 2nd week of February and got a small discount for not filing at the last second. SWEET! The best part? We went on a Saturday morning and hung out in her adorable home on eht UES as she chipped away at our taxes.
The personal attention was what really surprised us. While I've never had anyone do my taxes before, she really went above and beyond the call of duty to try and find credits for us based on the past 12 months of our lives.
Worth every penny! Not sure if we will need her this year, as we have simplified our lives tremendously, but it's great to know that she's out there. -

A friend recommended Carla to me my first year in the city (which also happened to be my first year out on my own, which also happened to be the first year my dad said "you should do your own taxes!")
Carla is a very sweet lady who specializes in artists taxes. Most of all she is worth her fee (which is modest compared to other accountants I have heard of - this year she charged me only $90) because she has taught me what I need to keep track of as an artist, what things I can write off, and she provides me with the tools to help become better organized throughout the year.
Seeing her to do my taxes makes the dreaded chore into a pleasant and simple experience!
Tell her I sent you if you go! -

I just spoke with Carla and she said she is still taking new clients, she just couldn't take them before tax time. So if you're like me (lazy) and file an extension, she can totally help you out now. She is a peach!

Carla is a great accountant and very accessible...I had a very difficult filing last year and Carla handled it smoothly and efficiently...Yelp is saying she's not accepting new clients which is not accurate...if you need a good accountant, give Carla a try...

She sounds very calm, however she make very clear that she can't talk to me on the phone, because she is super busy and she is not taking any new clients. She hang up on me very quickly. So I guess i have to look somewhere else.

This review is long over due, I did my taxes with Carla last Februrary. I can not wait to get my W-2 forms and do it all over again. Not only did I receive my returns in a timely manner, but she was such a pleasure to do buisness with. She is very organized, reasonably priced and knows what she is doing. I am very pleased with the level of service and professionalism! I highly recommend her :-))

yeah, she's good. I'm a knuckleheaded tiny business owner who is willfully ignorant when it comes to money and taxes. She keeps it all straight, gives great advice, and ANSWERS HER PHONE! Dude, that's the big one for me. She actually answers the phone and will talk to you and at the same time make you feel like you are her only client. Her fees are more than fair. I'm glad I found her.

I have been going to Carla for 11 years for my taxes and I could not imagine going to anyone else. She is so great, calm and personable. She has made tax time one of my favorite times of the year. I recommend her to everyone!
