Great little place with great coffee and quality Italian food. Good selection cheese at reasonable prices. Our first stop at this place and we'll go back fro sure.

I just had an excellent Reuben but $9 for a sandwich that comes without fries, slaw, or anything but a few tiny gherkins means I won't be back very often despite living a couple of blocks away.

I LOVE this place and especially the owners. The West End should really be littered with stores, delis and cafes like this but alas...we apparently need more Starbucks and subpar shwarma. I digress.
All their products are high quality, many from Italy or NYC (try the sausage!). I have never tried the paninis but apparently they are out of this world. If you're having a pizza night, walk in and ask for topping suggestions. Try something new, grab some nice oil or freshly baked breads and pasta.
These are the places we need to support and encourage. Now I'm just waiting for an awesome French-style cafe and patisserie with a few tables out front to watch the people go by...Listed in: West End Wicked - Groceries

Nice location, cozy, tucked away in a residential neighbourhood. I want to love this little place but if I need Italian deli anything I'll go to Bosa or Granville Island. Even though I live a block away. It just doesn't do it for me - and the sad thing is is that I really, really want it to! The selection just isn't enough for me to frequent this place. If I'm going to get my Italian groceries I go somewhere where I can get it all at once, not just one or two specialty items.
They do have deli sandwiches though but...if you've read my other reviews you likely know I have allergies. I once ordered a sandwich here, making sure I made a point of saying no peppers, and ensuring that the tapenade on it had no peppers... And the woman behind the counter failed to mention the obvious peppers in with the artichoke hearts! Delicious sandwich, I just wish I could have enjoyed the whole thing knowing I wasn't going to be sick afterwords. Maybe next time I go I'll have more luck. -

A "How Are Ya," a wink, a smile and a quick like lightening yummy brie and ham sandwich prepared while I marveled at avocado oil chips and kettle popcorn.
With bits of artisan groceries, some pastas (fresh tortellinis I want to try), an assortment of canned tomatoes, jars of pickles and the like, it feels like you've stepped into some quaint grocery store in a seaside town, certain to bump into a neighbour for a moment of friendly chit chat before ordering a few slices of deli meat and some cheese for the kids lunches.
It's small and it's hidden-- every neighbourhood should have a little Bottega like this, and I'm just thankful that mine is tops! -

I went to this friendly little deli this afternoon with my boyfriend and daughter. We each had a cold sandwich and they were amazing!
Tucked out of the way on Cardero in a quaint residential neighbourhood, this little shop is easy to miss making it a hidden gem that caters to locals and is known, primarily, by word of mouth.
There is no indoor seating but a couple of wooden benches under the awning will do for a quick sit down if you plan to stay a bit. That's what we did and we received smiles and nods from passing locals and one person exclaimed that our joyful munching was a perfect advertisement for the food.
The bread was the freshest I've ever had at a restaurant, the ingredients flavourfully combined (I had The Lord Stanley - turkey, cheese, peppers and lemony, saucy goodness) and they were so big, they filled our bellies for the afternoon. Not bad for $7.
As we had only popped in for sandwiches, I didn't have much time to check out the shelves for italian goodies, deli meats and cheeses or frozen dinner ideas but I'll be sure to go back for some serious gourmet shopping.
Bonus - Cardero Bottega handles Mobio payments so I was able to use my iPhone to make an easy credit card purchase and, happily, this weekend they were having a promotion for Mobio users and I received a free $15 itunes card for using my iPhone. Sweet! -

Sandwich was great, especially the bread. So melt-in-your-mouth.
I don't think I'd go out of my way to get deli stuff here unless I lived near - you can find a much bigger selection in other specialty stores. -

Hidden amongst the housing and apartments, waiting for you is a fresh baked euro bun with a huge pile of toppings cheese meat and flavours with names ... about 6 to choose from or create your own...
Or just shop like a Italian for all your home cookin needs -

Hmmmmmmmm sandwiches!
Why yes, try the made to order sandwiches. For $7.50 you will be stuffed with fresh bread, amazing deli meats, marinated peppers and some of the best cheese around.
But the Bottega is more then just fantastic sandwiches. They have a great selection of deli goods like cured meats and imported cheeses, plus high quality canned and dried deli products. They carry fresh pastries, bread, pizza dough, and pasta as well. Personally I'd rather buy these items at an independent store than at Capers.
Oh yah, and if you need a caffeine fix they also make a pretty mean cup of coffee. -

Sounds like good food but the past 2 days I've tried to visit here it's been closed with a note on the door saying they will be open tomorrow. Tomorrow never comes and I have to travel back home now. Ship me one of those sandwiches I was craving!!!

Cardero Bottega is a quaint little shop in the middle of the West End. I stopped in for a sandwich the other day (Lord Stanley). It was piled high with roast turkey and rosemary ham, marinated peppers and havarti cheese. I'm happy to say, the new owners (since mid-March) are continuing the tradition of fresh buns and ingredients. I hope that Mister A. gives them another chance next time he's in Vancouver.

Being that it's in my neighbourhood and the fact that I'm loving not having to go to Commercial Drive to get my Italian espresso, pickled eggplant and dried pasta, I was very happy that Tim Harris and his wife opened this little boutique style NYC inpsired deli. The area already has some Eastern European delis just on Robson and Denman, but not a truly Italian one which this is. I would recommend getting your last minute canned goods here, some pastas and maybe if you're really hungry - trying one of their sandwiches. I still think that the trip to Commercial is worth it, as the meats will be cheaper and the variety is more extensive, but this is a good half-measure start.

After purposefully getting lost in the West End and trekking about 5 clicks from home, I needed a boost and out of my caffeine-darkness came Cardero Bottega. This little Italian shop a few blocks off of Denman street was an unexpected treat, as all that surrounds the shop are houses, trees and apartment buildings. I love this area and Cardero Bottega is perfectly situated amongst it. The Proprietor, Tim Harris, was very friendly and knowledgable. The shop carries fresh pasta, Italian groceries, freshly made coffees and bread and delicious sandwiches. I will definitely make a point of getting lost here again!

I try and stop in on my dog walks when I need an espresso buzz. The coffee is really great, it's friendly and a nice space. Outside there's a water bowl for my dog and sunny West facing benches for me. They've got a bunch of yummy looking deli items too but I haven't tried a lot, mostly come for coffee.

Have to agree with the majority of other reviewers about the Cardero Bottega - their sandwiches are amazing! Along with the sandwiches, they also have a great selection of cold beverages. My husband and I weren't super hungry so we split the Caliente sandwich - it was fantastic and not too spicy (we like things really spicy). Service was really quick and we left happy.
As we walked in, the person working looked like he was making an antipasti platter deli platter - it looked amazing and the next time I throw a dinner party or head to Stanley Park for a picnic, I'll head here for some antipasti (they had a good selection of antipasti in their deli case as well). They also have a selection of artisan groceries, focusing on European ingredients - definitely a good enough selection to make quite a delicious dinner from. We'll definitely be back.
My only slight complaint was I felt like the person behind the counter wasn't super friendly - a little standoffish. Considering other reviewers reviews of service, I'm guessing we caught them on an off day. -

the best everything!
Tim suggested that my boyfriend and I buy duck confit that he prepared to put on our pizza that night. We actually bought all the ingredients there from pizza dough to sauce and some delicious cheeses. THE MOST AMAZING PIZZA EVER MADE!
I also can't get enough of the olives...
OH! Tim and Nat really craft a great espresso beverage as well.
A definite must stop in on your tour of the west end!
