It is with a heavy heart that I script this late review.  My beloved Carden Street closed it's doors about a month ago, and I, along with many others mourn the loss of such a great establishment.  Dear Carden Street Cafe, you will be greatly missed.  Many, many times, I've visited this place and never once was disappointed with my meal.  I loved with a fervor, the mixed seafood dish, delighted in the coconut curry noodles, and of course, was taken with the vibrant and eclectic atmosphere that abounded throughout the space.  The food was awesome.  So was your staff, friendly, cheerful, and warm.  And, now, gone.  I'm not sure what business will be taking over your lovely little space, however, I cannot imagine anyone else filling the shoes you have left behind. Best of luck to you - I hope to see you again elsewhere in the future.

    Awesome food, great atmosphere....

I enjoyed a delicious crispy thai noodle dish... Very well done. But the atmosphere brings you back.

...Another day that His Goatness and I end up on Carden street, looking for lunch. (It's a pattern. It's not a bad pattern, but it's a pattern.) Walking up the street, we're nearly past the Carden Street Cafe before the smells of wine-braised meat and spices hit us. Simultaneously and without a word, we make an abrupt about-face and enter.

The colors inside this place are astonishing, startling -- they hit your eyes like a water-balloon to the face. Having lived in the Caribbean, I get what they're about... but I'm not sure even the Caribbean was this colorful. I feel like I'm an extra in the movie 'What Dreams May Come'. Definitely the place to come when you've got the winter grey-sky blues.

So... they've got the colors, what about the food? As expected, Caribbean style foodstuffs (they're apparently famous for their West African curries). Succumbing to a wave of nostalgia, HG and I order the goat roti. I get the mango pickle side, and order the "ginger soda", hoping it will be a proper Caribbean ginger beer...

It is! Joy! And the rotis are delicious -- spicy, savory, stewed to perfection, with that lovely rich flavor of tender goat. They are loosely-wrapped (read: you still need a knife and fork), rather than burrito-style like the ones we used to get all the time on St. Kitts. The mango pickle is extraneous to the flavor of the roti, and is nearly inedibly salty.

But for a stroll down gastronomic memory lane (HG and I met in vet school in the Caribbean), lunch was pleasantly affordable, and very satisfying.

Have enjoyed going to the Carden Street Cafe for several years until a week ago on Saturday.  Not sure what happened but the food was indifferent at best and we were disappointed.  The sauces tasted differently than previous times and not up to their standard.  Hope that they can get the cuisine back to its previous level as it has been a wonderful spot.  The decor is still funky and fun, the staff are terrific, and so I hope that it gets its great food back.
