Others have mentioned that this is the best place to get Chinese food on the North Shore and after eating there I cannot help but agree.
You get the full variety of dishes as most Chinese restaurants offer but what I liked was that the food was tasty and it was not cooked in as thick of a sauce and it was still tasty. We had Shrimp Fried Rice, Beef With Black Bean Sauce and Diced Chicken with Cashews and nothing was left on the plates at the end.
What I find so nice about this restaurant is the location. It is a drive up Capilano Drive towards Grouse Mountain and being away from the city and the strip mall stores you have a place where you can eat in a dining room overlooking a patio space where a bit of nature is something you can see.
The other posters may have a case where the decor might be a bit dated but in the end I really was not looking for something ultra trendy or super stylish. Go to other local Chinese restaurants in the city and you really do not have much better decor.
Take a drive out of the city and enjoy a quieter meal at Capilano Heights Chinese Restaurant. -

This place is a great place to get good Chinese food on the North Shore. We often do take-out when we are craving Chinese food. Everything is good, but in particular, I like the hot and sour soup and beef and green beans dish.
It is not the best Chinese food I have ever had (check out my review on Kirin for the best Chinese food!), but I think it is really good for the price you pay. Can't go all out and give them 5 stars as I SO wish they would renovate this restaurant. When you walk in, it feels like you are back in 1985 with the decor and furniture of this restaurant.
If they renovate, I would be happy to dine-in. Until then, take out it is :) -

My favourite deep fried prawns. Juicy plump prawns with the tails removed, coated in a thick but delicious light batter and served with a sweet and sour sauce that is orange-based rather than cherry. YUM. I've loved these for a long, long time and my waistline is thankful that I don't live closer or I'd be having them everyday.

Definitely a choice place to stop whenever I'm going to be on this part of the north shore and looking for a reliably good meal.
We also had the singapore noodles and the cod in black bean sauce.

Best casual Chinese food I've ever had. One satisfied customer. Some dishes were a little bland, so err on the spicier side.

I am having a 1970's Flash-back!!
This place hasn't changed in years. It has a VERY loyal clientele - kids, parents, grand parents, great-grand parents meet around a big table for a BIG feed of non traditional Chinese food! Sometimes it feels like you are in an old age home.....anyways......
The food:
Sweet and Sour Pork - 5 STARS
Not very authentic, but very crisp in a fantastic sauce.
WonTon Soup - 4.5 STARS
Nice broth - good wontons.
Beef and Green Peppers with Black Bean Sauce - 4 STARS
Good! but a little heavy on the Onions!
Noodles - 3 STARS
Any noodle dish has been average. the Chicken Chow Mein or Vegetable Chow Mein are a little on the boring side.
THE BAR - 4 STARS
I see them cranking out old time drinks - that won't appear on many other menus these days! try something different! I see them making Shirley Temples for the Kids!
Overall, a nice place for a family dinner and take out too.
Don't expect Traditional Authentic Food - but it is good nonetheless.
Interesting over the years - the bartenders are usually Asian Females with Pamela Anderson style Assets - without the Baywatch look. -

A trip home to North Vancouver is not complete without a visit to Capilano Heights for their delicious Chinese food. This is the standard that I hold all other Chinese restaurants too, and have yet to find another to match it.
They have a large menu, but we always seem to order the same things as they are our favourites and we can't imagine eating there and not having them - Lemon Chicken, Sweet & Sour Pork, This & That Chow Mein are for sures!
Yummy! Time to update their dishes and table cloths though;) -

I've been going to this place since I was kid. I no longer live on the north shore but will drive across town for take out. It's that good! I highly recommend the This and That chow mein as well as the lettuce wraps. I always try a new dish and I've never been disappointed.
They had the best shirley temples when I was a kid! -

Yelpers are going to kill me for this 3-star review but I thought it was just OK in my opinion of yummy Chinese food. It was greasy and just average, and the prices were a little above average... there wasn't anything special about it that made me think, 'Wow this is a great place'.
There was, however, enough room for a large banquet, party, etc, and the service was ultra-quick. Not very friendly, but attentive nonetheless. Also a bit messy. I guess I put my expectations too high for a 4.5 Yelp rating. -

I first went to the Capilano Heights with my family maybe 20 or 30 years ago. At the time, the lemon chicken just blew me away. I think I've ordered (or at least looked for) lemon chicken at every Chinese place I've been to since, but nobody has come even remotely close to delivering the amazingness of that first experience.
Now, people tell you that you can't go back to your old haunts and expect them to be the same. (That was certainly true of a place we used to go every time we drove past Hope: I tried it some years later, and the management had changed. The food was bad, the service was lousy, and only the name had been retained to fool the innocent.)
However, in the case of the Capilano Heights, you CAN go home again. I talked a friend into trying it out for lunch, and the lemon chicken still has just as much awesomeitude as it ever did. (The curried chicken, which my friend ordered, was also very nice.)
But of course, for the full Chinese restaurant experience, what I really need to do is get a whole gang together, and have each person order a different dish, and pass things around on those lazy-susan tables, which seem to be an endangered species in the rest of town. -

Capilano Heights Chinese restaurant
We have had many celebrations at this wonderful family friendly restaurant. The food is excellent and the menu is extensive. Our family and friends having been going to the restaurant since 1973. over the last 15 years I have developed a Gluten allergy. when I tell the staff of my allergy they are only too happy to make the food gluten free. I would like to give them high marks for helping me with my diet.

This is our favourite family restaurant. Large portions, friendly service and consistent quality at reasonable prices are what you get. Order the lemon chicken and the "this and that" chow mien - you will not be disappointed.
