I am rating the manicures here. I have been getting manicures and pedicures at Canvas since 2009. I have natural nails. The salon is clean and the equipment always sterile. I sometimes have an appt. (they honour the times well) but often I just walk in. The products are excellent. I just began getting the gel manicure and it is my best manicure ever. i went on a beach vacation and was in the sun and sand and water for a week, suncreen and lotions, and my manicure came home looking fresh. I really can't believe it. I feel the has high standards about how your nails look, and mine look amazing.

Cool place, decent pricing but I say that because it was Chinese New years eve and I needed a place to get a hair cut and I found them on Groupon for $35 AND they had appointments left!

Very straight forward, D understood what I wanted (keep it long and take no more than an inch off overall) and out of all the techniques to use to make my hair full I volume he opted for one of the more difficult - round brush curls!

    Would I come back? Sure!

MUCH BETTER experience than I expected from the usual Vietnamese run salon and your typical Professionail. I bought a groupon for $25 brazillian wax. I phoned in the morning to make appointment and the lady (same lady that did my wax - Kim or Tien?) sounded a little impatient. However, when I got there she was actually pretty nice. Also, yelp give a deal for 25% off hair services when I check in on the phone, I needed a haircut anyways and they accommodated me right away.

The brazillian wax was pretty fast and painless, she did a good job, no spots left on. Definitely worth the trip for $25. Haircut - I was pretty skeptical about the stylist at first because I'm used to going to see Kenji @ Chura. But because she was Asian, I trust that she knew how to cut Asian hair. I showed her a picture of the Lauren Conrad bob on my phone, we discussed, I told her I didn't want TOO much off, and that I just wanted more layers. The cut turned out pretty well, however, after she finished blow drying/flat iron, she kept cutting......  and cutting...... and cutting.  She didn't make it shorter than it was already, she just kept fixing it. I guess I rather have her be thorough. But my bangs were shorter than I would've liked, but it was my fault for not telling her I wanted to keep my bangs a little longer.  My haircut after discount and before tax was $37.50.

I would go back, worth the visit.

I am a woman loyal to no hair salon. Therefore, my head of hair gets around. A consequence of these wanderings is that I have had some interesting hair cuts. This is partly because I always forget to wear my contacts and have to remove my glasses for before the shearing.  I then end up sitting in the chair blind while god knows what is going on. When the hair dresser is finished and I get to take a closer look sometimes I'm happy and sometimes I just have to take my glasses back off.

Today I was out shopping and decided on a whim that I needed a long overdue haircut. So I searched on Yelp and saw that Canvas Hair Salon advertised a 30% discount and thought I would see if they had any availability. When I walked in the door I was greeted by the owner. We negotiated a price ($40) and off we went.

I was given a very vigorous hair washing. Followed by a nice scalp massage. The assistant washing my hair had a little trouble keeping water out of my ears, but I had the feeling she is actually one of the manicurists doing double duty. The owner of the salon ended up cutting my hair. She was nice, chatty and meticulous with my hair cut. Although I only wanted a trim she encouraged me to let her thin my hair explaining why it would look better. I'm glad I listened to her as my hair feels and looks great. She also blow dried and flat ironed my hair for no extra charge. She didn't seem to be in any rush and took the time to do a good job. I gave her a nice tip as I felt the haircut was worth it.

The only negative comment I have, is that during my haircut, the hairdresser kept stopping to sell product, answer the phone and such. As the customer, that tells me that my time is not important.
However, she did give me a coupon for a $40 mani and pedi. I think I might go back with a girlfriend to try it out. The massage chairs looked pretty comfy.

I absolutely LOVE getting my mani pedi here
i am a Pedi Snob and nail polish application perfectionist, and they deliver... they do an amazing job with softening ur tired and hard feet, pain them with so much technique and experience..
i come to Vancouver about five times a year now, and still make a point of getting my service done here all the way from Toronto..

Hands down, the best Brazilian wax ever. (and I've had plenty). Lien is amazing. You'll be in and out in about 8 mins. I hurts less than with anyone else and it's always flawless.

And,  Dimitru is fantastic. He is one of their stylists And the only person who I trust 100% with my hair. "Just make it look good". Is the extent of my instructions to him and I've never been anything less than thrilled. He is amazing. He is thorough and is totally committed to making his clients happy. I can't say enough good about him. He's amazing. I used to hate my hair. Since I trusted my hair with Dimitru, I love my hair

A friend recommended I try out Canvas for their manis and pedis, and they had a deal going at the time, $40 for both, which seemed like a steal to me. I was definitely not disappointed.

It's a salon with the massage pedicure chairs lined up in the back, so if you're looking for the private room, zen spa relaxation treatment, this isn't the place. However, every time I've gone, I've had both treatments done at once, which made it way more time efficient, and they do a fabulous job at putting the polish on so it looks perfect! Love the way they shape my nails and the girls working there are all very friendly. I like sitting there and zoning out to the food network which they have playing on a big screen by the chairs.

All in all, even without the deal on - it's now $50 for a mani/pedi combo - it's still cheap enough for me to go as often as I'd like to without breaking the bank, and my nails have never looked better!

If you are in the Kits area and need a great mani or pedi, go here! Very pleasant staff, competitive prices, great service. My pedicures from here last for weeks! Very clean and neatly kept salon. Comfortable massage chairs. And if you get a mani/pedi, one is done at a time so you don't feel like something that is being scrubbed or rushed! Very relaxing experience.

I was recently approached by a woman in the street-- an employee of Canvas'.. Selling sort of promotional packages. $60, for a hair cut, highlights, manicure and 'gel nail' treatment. I will admit, I was a bit sketched out when buying.. because I wasnt entirely sure that it was a scam. Sounded too good to be true, y'know?

I bought it though, and immediately checked out the salon to make sure that it all seemed legit. It did! Seemed like a nice salon with happy customers. A few days later I made an appointment for the hair-cut portion of the package.

I've gotta say-- I am impressed. The girl (Vivi) did a kick ass job. I have very short, funky hair and have had MANY bad hair cuts in my life.. But Vivi took on the challenge like a champ and rocked my world. She listened to what I asked of her, appreciated my input and I walked away feeling super sexy.

And the best part? The $60 'promo package' that I bought from the sketch sales girl on the street was totally valid!! I didn't have to pay ANYTHING more for the hair cut (besides the tip for the stylist). Nor was there any weird, high pressure sales pitch for products or anything. I was amazed.  I am not entirely sure how much a hair cut normally costs here.. But if I'd definitely say it's worth the cash.

I'm looking forward to my upcoming appoints for Highlights and a Manicure!

They're not the best but they're pretty good. Probably the best deals for Mani-pedi's. They have lots of groupon deals-of-the-day too so if you want some friendly service, a great nail-polish application and a zone out in the massage chair while watching food network (it's fun!), this is the place for you! Definetly not a spa.  Also, I have had my hair cut and highlighted a few times. They've had some staff turnover lately so you may not be able to get the same person. But everyone has been friendly and accommodating.

A girl friend found a good deal with Canvas through Groupon and asked if I wanted to get a mani and pedi done. I thought it would be a great opportunity to do a girls night out/hang out so we could catch up. Plus, I've never had a mani and pedi before. I think I'm more into massages over mani and pedi. Anyway, we made reservations 3 weeks in advance for 5:30pm and were looking forward to this experience. However, we shouldn't have spoken too soon.

One of the ladies informed us that only one of us could do the mani and pedi first because they were short on staff. Looking at me, my girl friend thought we were going to do our mani and pedi together so we could chat. THAT was the point. Anyway, we suggested that she can get hers done first while I sat next to her in an empty chair. She had a mini-bucket for her feet to be dipped in lukewarm water while a Vietnamese lady in her early 30's started the pedicure process. Anxious and wanting to unwind after a long day from work, I kindly asked if I could get some water for my feet while I waited. I wasn't asking for them to do the pedicure as I was informed right from the beginning there was a shortage of staff. Without explanation, I got a blunt answer "NO" from one of the Vietnamese women who was in her late 50's when she wasn't even serving us. She was helping some other customer with the hair. The lady in her 30's gave us a "I can't do anything about it" look.

An hour later, another staff came into the hair salon to help out and we thought she was going to help me. Unfortunately, that wasn't the case. She went to the back and came back out to do other stuff. Around 6:45pm, my girl friend had to leave so I was sitting there by myself, thinking, "I have to go to the washroom but I can't get up. When is this going to be over?" The lady in her 50's came by to give me warm water so that I could dip my left hand into it. She placed the bowl on my lap and told me to leave it there. When she reached for my right hand, she knocked over the bowl full of water. Where does the water go? Yep, you're right. It's all over my crotch area so it looks like I had an accident. Sitting in wet clothing is not comfortable at all. Not at all.

My gilfriend bbm'ed me at around 7:40pm and asked me if I was done yet and I said if I could be typing on my blackberry, that means I haven't done my manicure yet. She was like, "STILL!?" Anyway, long story short, I left that place around 8:40pm and mumbled to myself that I will never visit that place again.

I am sitting here, typing with my beautiful manicured, blue nails 11 days after I got a mani and pedi at Canvas Salon.  This is BY FAR the longest a manicure has ever lasted me.  I originally tried this place because I had one of those daily deals, and I will 100% be back.  I went with a friend, we sat next to each other and laughed our faces off with all the women that work there.  They treated us like princesses for a day, and I walked out of there with the biggest smile on my face.  Great staff. Great service. Great mani and pedi.  Simply Amazing!
