Lately, Canadian Tire has been coming to my rescue time and time again. I didn't even know how much I liked this store until I realized that everything I've needed in the last couple of weeks, I've purchased from Canadian Tire.
Canadian Tire carries everything. We're talkin' snow shovels, Lagostina cookware, gardening goods, pet supplies, home hardware products, candy, binoculars, tools, Christmas decorations, stationary, stocking stuffers, thumb tacks, and the list goes on and on.
What I especially love about this particular Canadian Tire is that not only is it HUGE, but it's located right beside a Safeway, and across the street and down a bit, from Northland Village Mall. It's super easy to get to from the Dalhousie C-Train stop and the staff is ouber friendly.
So let's get this straight: Friendly staff, a VAST array of products, a convenient location, oh, and great pricing. What more could you ask for??? -

Service Department, I think you SUCK!
A task during my recent 6 days in Calgary was to "export" a car from BC to Alberta. One of the hoops to jump through during this provincial money-grab importation is to obtain an Out of Province Vehicle Inspection. I called around to many of the licensed inspection stations but they were unable to fit me in so I called this Canadian Tire. I asked if they could accommodate me for the next day and they said that yes they could but I should line up before opening at 7:30am to insure that the inspection would be completed that day.
At 7:10am the next day I arrived and was 3rd in line. I waited patiently until I was finally served at 7:40 to be told that the technician who performs the inspection was scheduled off for the next 3 days so I should come back next week! WTF!!!! Needless to say I was not pleased and ripped the service manager a new a@$hole. His only suggestion to me was to go and try another Canadian Tire location about 10km away.
I quickly sped over to the other location and was fortunately able to secure an inspection but it would guarantee that my entire day was ruined.
I came to pick up my car at the appointed time and was told that it did not pass because I needed a wheel alignment (which Canadian Tire charges $126.50 to perform). Here is the kicker, I had a wheel alignment the previous day at Kal-tire when I had my tires changed over from the winter tires!!!!!! I call BS!!!!! The technician sheepishly said he said he thought the car was driving just fine but somehow this translated into needing a wheel alignment? Amazingly I passed the inspection all of a sudden when a Kal-tire receipt and alignment print-out was produced from my purse.
People who need any type of automotive servicing - beware. Their business practices appear to me to be either extremely incompetent or very unscupulous.Listed in: Adventures in Calgaryland

While I am on a CT roll I want to mention that my battery was bought here, and when I first bought my vehicle the owner still had the warranty for one year's worth of road service and 5 years of replacement service.
I had parked my vehicle for a couple of months while vacationing and not knowing that a computerised vehicle needs to be turned over every week, I discovered that my car battery was dead when I returned. Although I am not the original person who bought this policy Canadian Tire Motomaster was able to uphold my policy simply by me citing the warranty number.
In thirty minutes a vehicle showed up at my residence and immediately boosted my battery, he told me the ins and outs of my new used car and recommended that I run it for an hour or so without turning it off. He was kind, courteous and friendly and did not make me feel car ignorant. This policy has proven itself many times and I swear to this day to continue buying my car batteries from CT. But I haven't had to so this proves my case. -

B - List. Store gets a 4 of 5. The store is well stocked, relatively is easy to find items and check out is mostly pain free. The auto services gets a 2 of 5. I agree with Fubuki - stay away. There are numerous reports of problems with scheduling appointments, incomplete work, poorly installed parts, dirty car interiors after service and front-desk staff that quite simply do not care about you or your car but they do care about your money. Go if you are desperate and if you have a good experience at the auto centre consider yourself lucky. Otherwise, look elsewhere.

I haven't been to this location but I went to the one on Macleod Trail and southland SW and it was the worst customer service experience of my life! I took my car in for a simple changeover of tires and they said they couldn't find the nut in my consul I had to go back and it was in plain view the entire time. I handed it to them, went home and then they called me and said they would only put on tires if I bought new ones as mine were too bare! Something they could have told me the first time. Not to mention, the staff was rude and accused me of placing the nut in the Consul.. oh yeah right! Like I really like to spend my day running back and forth to canadian tire. I complained to management about the worst service of my life and SURPRISE!! No response. Do not take your car into Canadian Tire on soutland and macleod. They are horrendous!
