Review from Azim A.
Ottawa, ON
A stunningly beautiful venue, the CMCP overlooks the Rideau Canal's entrance into the Ottawa river in the city's downtown core, steps away from Parliament Hill and the Chateau Laurier.
Walking through the eclectic mix of art through photography, covering every subject and modern period imaginable, you get a sense that you are walking through Canada's history and Canada's culture through pictures.
There are some very inspiring works here that are worth checking out. I was there recently during the "Imaging a Shattering Earth" exhibit, a full-on look at natural calamaties and how they have transformed our world. It also underscores human-induced threats and damages from a unique perspective.
While the collections have been spread over from the last forty years, there are works that predate the 1960s as well. In total, there are over 160,000 photographic works. You will also find transparencies, negatives, books, filmstrips, audio-visual presentations, and mixed media works.
Be prepared to spend a solid half-day to truly appreciate the museum.
