Ah yes, the bastion of Canadian bureaucracy. I give this place four stars not because I love it, who could, but because it's just so damn useful.

Maybe I'm world weary insofar that I almost expect endless bureaucracy no matter what I do but, at least, if you think like that, this place it where you get it all done. All the forms are here, all the registrars and notaries and what have you are here, and you can get most things done under one roof. They even have somewhat helpful staff who are meant to guide you through the processes involved, but we all know how well that goes.

So yes, if you think you'll be filing anything to the government whatsoever or are confused, head here first. They're likely to have the information you need and on their giant form wall, the form to submit to get it. It's all a bit Kafka-esque, but at least it's all in one place.

"Should five per cent appear too small, Be thankful I don't take it all.  'Cause I'm the taxman, Yeah, I'm the taxman." A friend recently told me that taxes are illegal in Canada -- an optional measure introduced during the war.

I still have yet to scurry through the library shelves to confirm this, but am quite intrigued by the idea.

Then, she carefully reminded me, I better not have an appreciation for firemen, sidewalks, hospitals, or getting rid of my Christmas tree that is still in my living room in January.

I'm not so against the taxman, it seems, after all. I recently attended some seminars on taxes for small businesses run by CRA. I'm pretty thankful they have a huge number of ways I can get my money back.  I learned that I can get my taxes back on my seat and heat, but not the street and feet.

Definitely worth a visit if you're swimming in T4s this spring.
