    Date Scene #1

So, after a good cleansing that even the Baptist would have smiled upon to make way for my new path in this crazy world called dating, I met up with a blind date here for drinks.  Not dinner, drinks, I stated since he had initially volunteered dinner.

You  see, I approach each and every date as an investment of my time and efforts.  The initial start is in researching and assessing the risk.  One does not contribute greatly if they are not aware of the costs associated.  Of course, it does take one to know about it in order to benefit with a clear idea of what is involved.  With that information duly researched beforehand per emails/calls/blahblahblah, it is on to the complexities of fund selection.

So, I start small.  Usually coffee.  Usually drinks (depending on what you all are looking for, of course, hehe) and Campton Place Bar was the place to put a damper on my somewhat frazzled nerves and not to mention, an upgrade from the majority of dive stops I'd been going to for a while.  The bar is cool and modern, sophisticated with dark wood and neutral accents throughout.  Most of the people there were in suits and quiet conversations fell into hush mode during bouts of repetitive ramblings.

I only had one drink since I do have the "Asian" gene where I cannot handle the alcoholic poison running into my veins and wreaking havoc on my coordination skills.  That being said, my tools for strategic dating usually become hampered and I'm slightly unable to plan for a long-term allocation.  I had one Grey Goose Martini (the bartender here makes a mean drink) and it was a fabulous smooth find, paired with their Charcuterie plate (although watch out for the cheeses, because that can give you bad breath but the presentation was divine and artistic) and of course, the fried Calamari (because we all know that deep fried menu items simply slow down the absorption of the alcohol, therefore motivating one to assume they could handle more) wonderfully fried crispy and not rubbery.

The one drink was enough to dull away anything, including a cheesy email that my ex sent me, whining that he was featured in several of my last reviews.  No alcoholic would have to drink anything to realize that one would only have to worry about anything unless he were innately the bs aforementioned. It proved true in my analytics early around August when I began to second-guess my commitment, when even the S&P 500 majority outperformed him in terms of stock  maturity and promise. Note to self, always listen to my male friends: they were all right about my selection of stock as immature and slight in terms of long-term growth.  My date thought the entire situation funny (he was an investment banker) and tried to move our conversation to the restaurant area.

"They have a fantastic Cote de Boeuf," he pushed, like the typical trader.  He had already heard of my love for a good piece of rare meat.  I reassured him that I felt that drinks were fine for tonight.  I was not very hungry.

I, however, enjoyed his company long enough to realize that despite the initial attractive figures, in person and on paper, I would give it a little time to see how much risk I was willing to adhere to in my current instable environment.  Looks like the highest probability will be that he'll be in my scope since he already called for another modest proposal.  Perhaps this Bar stop was just to value-test the waters ;)

Worst service I have ever had.

Our waiter was rude from the start. For example, we sat down at the table to have lunch but only two out of three of us were there yet. When the waiter came over to bring the water glasses, she said "Oh, there's going to be three of us" and he replied with a short "That's why there's three glasses". Uhh OK... (he was holding more than three by the way, how were we supposed to know? Sorry for trying to give you a heads up). Later we asked for recommendations on martinis since we wanted to try something a little different than the standard. No recommendations, just "Eight out of ten customers get a vodka martini. Eight out of ten", ever after we stated that we wanted to try something different. I guess we were on our own then. We also wanted to order food, but after our drinks came, our waiter literally never came to take our order for food. We had to flag him down once we eventually found him.

We ended up ordering two lunch entrees, since my friend had a passport card which allows her to get a buy 1 get 1 free lunch entree at certain places. Before coming here we checked on the website to make sure that Campton Place was one the places we could go to. We did end up sitting in the lounge area for lunch, but they did had lunch entrees and the website did not say "Campton Place Restaurant" or "Campton Place Bar", so we figured it was fine. We had never been there before, so when we saw lunch menus at the tables in the lounge we figured they serve lunch there too. When we got the bill, we tried to use the card and the waiter told us it was for the restaurant only, then went to get the manager ... long story (kinda) short, she explained that it was only for the restaurant but for us just this one time she would do the buy one get one free thing. Ten minutes later she comes back saying she can't and won't do it. At this point we're upset cause the service was already bad the whole time, and now the manager takes back what she says and she wasn't even nice about it, she was incredibly rude. She was practically yelling at us in the end.

Oh yeah, the food and martini I got were fine, but the experience with the staff way overshadowed that. Thank god I had good company.

tl;dr: Horrible service, they obviously do not care about their customers at all, will never come back here or recommend it to a friend.

You know what tastes great paired with a traumatic DR's appointment, 2 Valiums and a panic attack and full on cryfest?

Why, a dirty Belvedere martini with 3 olives, of course.

I'm not even gonna lie, my Friday was the epitome of a suck day. I mean, we are talking terrible Friday x1000. But thanks to my delirious drugged up state after leaving the DR's office and my "I need a cocktail" Spidey sense, we were able to spot this place across the street and with the help of my trusty girl's arm, I hobbled on over for some liquid rescuing.

Upon walking up to the entrance, I asked the bellman if they had stiff cocktails, to which he responded yes! Good man. We then walked into the bar and ordered up a strong round and figured some food might be a good idea as well. We ordered the calamari and I honestly didn't think I was going to like it since it came with a honey mustard sauce dealio, but surprisingly, it was actually quite good and the calamari itself, even better.

After we both calmed our souls down a bit from the craziness of the appointment, we then headed home to watch Mad Men which is even better on Valium, Vicodin and Belvedere. Ahhh, gotta love medicine.

Been there usually as stopover for a drink on the way to somewhere else, but the stopovers always seem to be for a couple of hours...

Fries and Mashed potatoes are yum.  Tuna Tartare is not that great.  Hamburger is average.

Overall, I really like this place.  Great drinks, great friendly service and Great Scott, it's a bit expensive.  I'll probably be back, but probably not for a bit.  Gotta save my pennies.

We LOVE Campton Place Bar. The restaurant sucks (see my review for why I say this) but the Bar is a whole other thing.

Thursday nights and weekends, Bill is working behind the bar. This guy knows his beverages and makes a mean cocktail. Always pleasant, always efficient, Bill has become our new best friend.

The food at the bar is very good. The hamburger is super tasty, the noodle salad is yummy without relying on too much sauce or dressing to make it tasty. Everything we've had so far has been great at the bar.

The bar is small but has great ambiance. On Valentine's Day the place was packed with couples staring into each other's eyes and enjoying the quiet, old-world comfort and style of the bar.

If I could give it more stars I would! Definitely one of my favorites in the city.

I'm having a passionate affair with the Sidecars at Campton Place Bar.   We're still in the Honeymoon phase, when I'm still in shock over the homemade sweet and sour (bursting with a perfect balance of fresh citrusyness and palate calming sweetness), and I never met a brandy I didn't hate until I tried the aged Jepson brandy in their Sidecars.

Anyways,  I'm kind of a ho and I still have my somethin' on the side.  Every now and then I order the Bellini, which is made proper with Prosecco and white peach puree.  I stopped trucking with peach schnapps around the time I started drinking legally.

I wash down my Sidecars with Campton Place Bar's fries, which I suspect must be fried in horse fat, they are so good.  But why no vinegar to go with?  I would almost deduct a star, but I'm obliged to give 5 stars to anyone frying in horse fat.

I want to be able to report on the rest of the bar menu, but unfortunately, on the many occasions when I get very drunk off Sidecars, I tend to stumble into the restaurant, and end up having a heart attack when the tab shows up on my credit card the next week.

Oh, and don't waste your time sitting at the cramped, sad little tables.  Sit at the bar and shoot the sh*t with the smart-mouthed bartenders who will bitch you out while you love it.

I am no food connoisseur and am coming as just someone who likes to eat at fancy places once in a while. Food was delicious, place was fancy and waiters were courteous. End of story.

fyi for the younger inexperienced eaters like myself. When you ask for water, specify tap water if you're eating on a budget. Charged me $10 for San Pel!!!! I would've gladly gave a hearty tip, but you live and learn.

do you wanted to be treated with respect and decency no matter if you are in a suit or a sweatshirt?  do you want exquisite service?  do you want great food?  do you want to go to the best little bar in union square?  then you might want to try the campton place bar / restaurant / hotel.  my girlfriend loves this place and goes here a couple times a week.  the price range can be expensive.  in this case, you get what you pay for.

    beers range from $7-$10.
    casa azul $19.
    grilled veggie panini $18

**if the indian manager asks to make you a drink, politely decline.  he way under pours.  i mean all fruit juice and a half count of alcohol.  i'm not kidding.  he is a nice guy but can't make a drink to save his life.  If Bill or David is there have them serve you.  GREAT BARTENDERS!!

Stopped in here after dinner for a drink since our friends were staying at this hotel.  It's on the smaller side but intimate with a swanky feel to it.  We came later in the evening during the work week so it wasn't crowded.  The hotel itself is near Union Square so this bar is great for a drink after shopping or a day in the city.

I was a lucky duck to have been taken out for lunch here. What I discovered is this is the place for Indian food. I think the palak paneer was the best I've had anywhere. The meyer lemon cheesecake, which came with blood orange sorbet, was also tip top. An all around over the top top notch notch experience.

Wonderful little bar.  I stumbled upon this place while  walking around Union Square one afternoon with my boyfriend.  The service is impeccable and the food is soooo delicious.  We loved the knowledgeable bartender too.  The drinks here are GREAT.  This place is a gem.  I can't wait to go back next time I'm in the city.

There is something so seductive about this little bar. Given its location it surprisingly doesn't have that irritating touristy vibe. They don't have that many wines by the glass, but the ones they do are tasty. They have a nice little menu and give you a cute little trio of bar snacks.

I love this little spot.  Comfy, subdued and elegant (w/a splash of sophistication).  The cocktails are great and I love the long stem glasses. Staff is attentive and polite.  Someone else here mentioned the "little trio of bar snacks" and I loved it as well.
