I came across Call the Kettle Black while wandering around Kits.  For kitchen items and gadgets, I'm glad I found this shop.

I wouldn't say Call the Kettle Black is a top-end kitchen store, but a top-middle kitchen store.  The reason for this is they have a lot of high-end kitchen items (i.e. Double Henckel products, Le creuset, Cuisinart, etc.) but they also have more affordable/cheaper supplies as well (i.e. OXO, Kitchenaid, Anchor).  Now, all the products they carry are good brands for cooking and serving, it's just not everything would be considered at the very top end.

Call the Kettle Black carries everything from cookie cutters to food processors.  Whatever you are cooking, baking or serving need is, they will more than likely have it.  Call the Kettle Black is not as big as William Sonoma or Cookworks (both near Broadway and Granville), but there are more locations, and Call the Kettle Black is generally cheaper for the same or similar items (and they're Canadian owned).

I personally like that you can find a price variety for a single type of product. If you are just trying your hand at cooking at home for fun, or to try and improve your skills, you can buy and item that you wouldn't normally use to get a feel for it and not break the bank.  For example, I wanted to buy some individual ramekins (little ceramic bowls) to make individual crème brules.  I had never made crème brule and needed a little guidance.  One of the very helpful staff showed me their section of what to get and tips for when I was going to try making them.  They had a selection of various sizes and colours of ramekins (around $5-7 each).  However, looking at the bottom shelf, there were some plain white ramekins for $1.25 each.  Score!  This is a theme for around the store.  There are many shelves/sections of items, but if you look towards the shelves closer to the floor of each section, you'll find the cheaper items.

I have gone here several times for different items (tea infusers, a cooking blow torch, ramekins, a candy thermometer, and more).  Every time I've been able to find something in my price range that I was willing to spend, while the items are still of decent/good quality.  After being able to go a few times, I have noticed significant differences in the staff.  With this said, all the staff have been cheerful and engaging; however, it is very clear that some of the staff know a lot more than others. On Saturdays and typically busier days, the staff have all been extremely knowledgeable at this location.  But, on slower days (i.e. Sunday) some of the staff I've met haven't been able to answer some of my questions about products.  It still all worked out and, in some of the cases the staff asked another staff member, but you could see a bit of knowledge gap. This is a minor item and in no way should prevent you from checking this place out.

I really like the Kitsilano location of Call the Kettle Black.  It's in an area that is great for getting inspiration for cooking with butchers and produce shops surrounding it.  If you want a place to help release your inner chef, check it out!

Cute little kitchen store.  This is my new found gem in Kits. Too bad I don't live near here to come here that often. Their prices are lower than Cookworks (another favour of mine and conveniently located within walking distance from my house).

They had good selection of baking materials (baking sheets, cake holds, cookie cutters etc).
Also cookware and kitchen accessory items that I would love to purchase but have no room for.
I found pie weights that I had been wanting at a good price.

I wish I had more time to browse the store but with a toddler, this is a pretty hard thing to do.

But if you love cooking or baking, definitely a good place to check out if you happen to be in Kits.

Looking for Pepper Mills, good quality with metal graters inside.
I had a plastic unit for a little while and those plastic inserts eventually wear down and simply don't work.

Found what I was looking for. Made in France and good quality.

There were alot of other great items in the store as well. I loved the cast iron skillets, but for me, I have enough.
Got some popsicle makers for $6.00.

And it seems that like this place and others, Tajines are the rave these days.

There are nice items in here and the prices are decent. I got teatowels, dishcloths, an apron and oven gloves. The latter two are really pretty with cupcakes all over them. Much better prices than similar items across at Oh My Gift!

I really like this store.  I bought one of the more functional tools an Indian woman can have in her kitchen--a garlic mincer!  And it's cute because it's shaped like a garlic. You just put the peeled clove in one half, and put the top half on and turn the device a few times. Voila! You have minced garlic! No more chopping by hand and getting smelly fingers that will ward off vampires.

Hmm...I sound like a Slap Chop  commercial.

But really, cool kitchen gadgets here!
