Calico Hills is juuust outside Edmonton, and it's become our boarding place of choice for our lovely kitty. The reason why we chose it is because it has a lot more flexible hours than competing lodges (very important when travelling) and it's reasonably close to the airport (perhaps speeding, you can get to the airport in 20 minutes). The pricing is competitive as well.

I also like that the place is cat-only, which gives me peace of mind for my cat's well being and that she will get focused attention. The interior of Calico Hills is essentially a giant converted house, with several tall and roomy kennels, some of which have window seating -- which we always get for our cat. The cat lodge also has various play things, towers, and even meshed and secured access to the outdoors, so if she feels like it, my cat can take "wander outside" and take in an outdoor view.

The lodge is family run and the animal health technologist on staff has always been courteous and nice, and she clearly has affection for the animals during their stay. Whenever we arrive to take our cat home, we find her relaxed and seems to be happy to stay where she's at!

You need to be mindful of their hours, though, because they only answer the phone and take drop-offs and pick-ups at those times. They may accommodate you a little further if you call ahead, but that may be at extra cost.

I think Calico Hills is fabulous and I can't think of placing our kitty anywhere else.

Edit: Just wanted to add that they seem to be a lot more techno-savvy that most. I remember trying another lodge who didn't want to receive documents via e-mail and asked for fax. Calico Hills did not have the same problem.
