A favourite of ours. Everything is delicious.
Sfogliatelle stuffed with nutella, custard or ricotta. Cookies. Cakes. Real bread. Really delicious bread. Pizza crusts.
You know that restaurant? The one with the incredible portugese buns? Calabria Bakery delivers those buns every morning before the restaurant opens.
And cannoli. Cannoli that they have to fill for you when you order it. As my honey said as he devoured his: "You can't buy cannoli out of a case!"

I've driven by so many times, and every time I vowed to stop. So today I finally made it up there! As soon as I looked in the window, my mouth was watering. Everything in there is crying to be taken home and eaten with gusto! I packed my stroller with bread, pizza/foccacia dough, biscotti, rum cookies and pasta sauce. The bread is amazing and the price is great! Definitely a great selection of sweets that go oh so well with a fresh cup of coffee. Worth going up the hill!

Ok, so I have an addiction to sfogliatelle. I get a craving once every few months, and for the longest time I couldn't find a way to satisfy it in Vancouver. Then I found this very good Italian bakery. They offer 2 varieties of sfogliatelle (traditional with the cheese based filling and custard), but you may have to call in advance to order them as they don't always make them. They will happily make them if you call a day in advance though (trust me, I have asked MANY times)!

As my local bakery, I love Calabria and there are a number of things they do well - their pastries and breads are very nice. But I've been consistently disappointed in their cookies - both texture and flavour have been off every time I've bought them - and it's disappointing given they look and sound so good. As a passionate home baker I strongly suspect their product sits too long, or their storage system is off. I'd recommend asking what is most freshly baked before you buy - or taste first and then decide if you want more.
