    Excellent stuff!

I visited the Love Made Me sample sale that was posted on the Yelp upcoming events page, and the venue had trays of cupcakes from Cake tease. Mind you, this was at breakfast time. They know how I roll.

One arm was juggling my knife bag and gargantuan purse, the other was covered in frilly lacy things, but the lure was strong. These cupcakes looked immaculate. Gently domed, smooth tops, perfectly star-tip piped icing dollops, complementary colours, simple wrappers, everything looked tasteful, not tarted up and garish. Bonus points for topping some with fresh raspberries.

My moment of truth for them was in trying the red velvet. It was extremely bright red, but didn't leave me with a hideously bitter food-colouring aftertaste that other places have failed with. My guess is that they may have used natural colouring. The cake's crumb was moist, and densely packed, but not heavy at all.

The frosting on top tasted like vanilla buttercream. It melted on my tongue, and tasted like butter whipped into submission and sprinkled with sugar in the process. Perfect. I would have liked it a leeeeetle more if it had cream cheese frosting, but buttercream is also traditionally paired with red velvet.

I love cupcakes but am getting sick of Vancouver's preoccupation with the novelty of them rather than the quality. Whomever made these cakes deserves a high-five. They know their stuff and put care into the production.

Thank you, Cake Tease, for teaching us a lesson from across the pond.

PS: I like your racy name. :D

Cake Tease is the best! The main gal Theresa can make a cake in pretty much any shape you can come up with. If you can't come up with one, start telling her your ideas and she'll brainstorm with you to develop the perfect cake for any occasion. Seriously.

We once asked her to create a cake for a friend's 50th birthday. His nickname is Honey Monkey Boy, and this is pretty much all we told her. She delivered a spectacular cake that fed 40 people. On top was a monkey eating out of a honey jar a la Pooh Bear! And I don't mean a picture of a monkey drawn on a cake, I mean a 3D monkey made out of cake! It was beautiful. Perfect. Not only did it look great, but it was so delicious, too.

Look no further, for you have found the cake of your dreams!

Their website has pictures of really lovely cakes, so I'm sure they are able to do a great job... when they put effort into it.  We placed an order and were quite disappointed with the result.  We asked for a colourful theme and it ended up being very bland.  The subject of the cake had no detail other than a few scratches on the fondant which I guess were supposed to look like fur.  It looked rush and last minute.  It tasted nice, but for the price (and what they advertise), we expected a lot more.  They also need to work on their communication skills - it was very difficult to get in touch with them.  Sorry Cake Tease, we won't be back.
