Stopped by to take-out a  "drink featuring the Blondé coffee mixed with coconut milk and pineapple" which is what I called it in my first review. It's also got some brown sugar and its real name is Kopi Colada. Whoa. It was ridiculously good. Highly recommended!

I thought I'd check this place out as per the good reviews. It's only been open for 10 weeks now,… Read more »

I've been to Sospeso twice now, and I'm positive that I'm going to add this to my rotation of local coffee shops. I really like the vibe, it's not ever too busy (hopefully that will change, but for now, I'll happily enjoy the solace), and the quality of the coffee is unmatched.

The atmosphere is friendly - all of the baristas have been chatty, and the ambiance is eclectic and fun. Various art is displayed on the colourful walls and the music is always a great mix of tunes.

I like to sit in the window ledge and watch the street, but there are plenty of comfy options, including a futon that looks like it would welcome a nap in the back room.

I'm hoping that in time I can learn more about the awesome selection of coffees they have - it's all awesome!

Ohhhhhhhh guys...I am double-pumped like a vanilla latté about being the first to review this new international coffee house on Quinpool Road. My only regret is that I visited in the afternoon and couldn't bring myself to have a specialty coffee from Turkey or Ethiopia for fear of being awake until the end of time. I get a special blend of the crazy after about three in the morning...

So here's the scoop...as far as ambiance goes, Sospeso (which I keep trying to spell as Sospresso) meets all the new café requirements. High stools offer bar-seating at the front of the shop for optimum people watching, comfortable red lounge chairs in the back are grouped around 3D tic-tac-toe sets that hurt my head just to even think about, and big tables offer plenty of room to work away on the built-in wi-fi. On top of that, a set of accessible computers are up for grabs if your PC isn't mobile. Pretty good, right? The only downside was the radio playing through the built-in speakers. It was fine until the ads started. Hopefully they'll stock up on some albums of their own soon.

Now for the juicy bits...Caffe Sospesso literally translates to 'suspended coffee' or 'coffee in suspense'. You can 'Sospesso' your order on just about any drink, meaning you pay for two, walk away with one, and leave one behind either for a friend (they write the name and drink order on the cup for future use), or the café banks it so it can be donated to a charity as an auction item. I LOVE this concept. It really brings community back to coffee-shopping and let's me do good deeds on my own schedule.

I'm withholding the fifth star not for any particular reason (except maybe the radio), but because I neeeed to go back to actually to try the coffee instead of punking out with an herbal tea. There's an Ethiopia Blondé (white coffee) that the owner said "has a LOT of caffeine and makes you really hungry". So...cocaine and pot in a coffee cup. This could either be really good or really bad for me, friends...

Ok Ben, I am relieved to think I'm not the only one that can't get the name of this place straight  :p   (and the 3-D tic-tac-toe ...we started playing it then realized I couldn't think that much before my coffee) haha

This place is WAY better for atmosphere than any other coffee shop on Quinpool.   That being said,
The only thing that was weird to me (same as the last review) was the music.  The difference was, when I was in there was no music on at all.  It made the place too quiet (hardwood floors, so very echo-y  when they were grinding the beans a few times [= LOUD!!!].  It was eerily quiet in there... seemed like more of a library where you're scared to talk.  A little music of some sort (please God, not the radio Ben had mentioned... I hate radio commercials more than anything!!)

The coffee I had here was one of the BEST cups of coffee I have ever tasted in my 30 years alive on this planet.  It was amazingggggggggg (and that was just their "brewed" coffee)

THAT being said - I have been here total of 3 times so far, and the above-mentioned was the first time (when the owner was working and made my coffee) - the other 2 times his employees were working and made my coffee and it was pretty standard.  I hope they get this consistency thing worked out, because my first cup of coffee was like crack - yes Ben, crack + weed = the best thing in the world...er...I mean your cup...  It just wasn't this way the 2nd and 3rd time which was a big let down after my first cup of heaven.

I really like the 3 different 'rooms' (or levels) you can sit and drink, so if it's busy upstairs you can go to the back room, or sit down below on one of the bar stools and people-watch ...if that's what you're into :p  especially on Quinpool...you just never know what you'll see haha !!

I'm still surprised this place is open until 10pm everyday ... Quinpool isn't really where you'd go for a late coffee (who can drink on that late and not miss sleep?!  :S  but it's nice to know the option is there I guess.

This is my new coffee shop to go to on my days off, they beat out Perks because of the coffee, and they definately beat "Ireland 32" because of atmosphere (what? don't like having a coffee in what looks like the inside of a spaceship? omg that place is so COLD inside - worst design everrrrrr)

...on that sidenote / rant, go check it out! Great addition to Quinpool  :)

P.S. to the previous review - HOW COOL of a concept is that? I don't know how you knew about the translation (Google? :p but I love that you can 'pass on' a coffee... Next time I'm in there I might just do that to you!  :)  Pay It Forward  :)

History

Established in 2011

A tradition in the cafés of Naples is to order a caffè sospeso - literally, a coffee "in suspense" - as a sign of your good fortune. When a sospeso is ordered, the customer pays for two coffees, but only receives one. That way, when a person who is down on their luck walks into the café, the person can ask if there are any coffees held in suspense, and can have one as a courtesy of the first customer. Though the custom has been a part of Neapolitan society for many years, it is somewhat less common today. Caffe Sospeso Plus would like to revive the tradition and introduce it to the people of HRM.
