A girl in my class keeps bringing these delicious paninis and pastas back to school with her, so finally I demanded that she take me wherever she has been going.

I walk past Cafe Buongiorno almost every single day but never really noticed it..

Inside there are big comfy couches with a fireplace and tons of seating. I saw a sign that said free wireless internet too! There was a friendly man who seemed to be running the place and I think he was probably the owner.

I was kind of unsure what to order.. and asked about what pastas were vegetarian, and he offered to whip me up a little plate of pasta with alfredo sauce and a salad, which sounded great. My two friends had some kind of chicken panini which they both seemed to enjoy. My pasta was pretty good (he sprinkled a buttload of fresh parmesan on top, which was awesome) and the salad was great too! I liked the dressing he put on but I'm not 100% sure what it was.

He convinced my two friends to have gelato and they kept talking about how amazing it was. I decided to check out the baked goods and he talked me into buying an almond croissant, and said it was the best thing I'd ever taste. He was right.

HOLY FREAKING CRAP. That almond croissant was TO DIE FOR. Now I'm going to gain like 50 freaking pounds from going in and buying it all the time. If this man suggests something to you, you listen to him!! He knows what he's talking about!

Caffe buongiorno is semi easy to miss when you are walking by.  On the outside, it is pretty nondescript.  Inside, it is cozy with couches and there is also free wi-fi from what the sign says.

Anyway, the owner has a pretty strong personality as you can see from other reviews, often proclaiming to have the best of everything.  It's nice to see someone that proud of their work, as long as it doesn't rub you the wrong way.  It's like he's out to hurt anyone... so I let it slide.

He serves up "the best in vancouver" illy coffee.  He cooks up a good breakfast.  Beating, stirring, steaming eggs in his signature steamed egg and cheese croissant.

One Friday morning, a determined career woman had to get to work at 7am having worked until 2am the night before.. but inside her head was screaming - NEED COFFEE RIGHT NOW. Her personality was always wanting to try a new coffee shop every chance possible and having walked by this cafe a million times, she was happy that it was opened bright and early.

As she walked in, a man was delivery their morning load of pastries. This picky chick asked the manager whether they had soy and the first thing that came out of his mouth was - we have the best coffee in vancouver....and then yes. Seemingly convinced, she ordered her soy latte to go. Watching the manager do his work, she noticed he use LIGHT soy.. not that she would ever have a problem with it.. but she wasn't sure how other customers would feel without the full richness of their lactose substitute........ a few more times the manager claimed that they have the best coffee in vancouver and it costed him $65 for a pound of coffee (not sure if in fact that is expensive or not).

The milk seemed like it took forever to steam, and although no foam was requested by this demanding working individual, it seemed a little over frothy when delivered.

In her opinion, the best coffee in Vancouver is coffee that is potent, strong and long lasting. This cup of coffee.... is... not so much that. Nothing special to say the least but a standard latte. The atmosphere looked cozy and breakfast and lunch sandwiches were also offered. She thought, as she finished her latte that this place is worth coming back... and to the manager it may be the best coffee in Vancouver, but to a woman who needs to wake up in the morning, it's just a latte.

We were visiting Vancouver on vacation from Arizona.  We stopped here for mid-afternoon refreshments after walking miles and miles (okay, kilometers and kilometers) all over Vancouver.

This place looks like it was picked up from Florence, Italy, and set down in Vancouver.  (Turns out it was so authentic that it even had a cranky owner, just like the caffe's in Italy.)  My wife, excited to speak Italian to someone, asked the man behind the counter, who appeared to be the owner, if he was Italian.  His response was rather abrupt and defensive and he said, "No, but that does not mean it is not the best cup of coffee in Vancouver."  (This theme also appears in Rachael T's review.  Seems that someone has a chip on his shoulder about how his coffee ranks in the Vancouver scene.)

My wife ordered a caffe americano and I ordered a chai tea latte.  We also ordered pastries; mine was the date square, I cannot remember what my wife had.  The drinks were good and the pastries were excellent.  We sat on a very comfortable leather couch and relaxed for about 30 minutes watching CNN (the Colorado Balloon Boy drama was unfolding).  As we were leaving the owner seemed friendlier as we said goodbye.  (We would have said "ciao" had he been Italian.)

This is a great little shop with good drinks and great pastries.  The grumpy owner just gives this caffe authentic old world charm.  I would stop here again for a chai tea and a sweet pastry.

I took my mom here after we escaped the horrible unservice of Gorilla Food across the street. The owner was a garrulous Italian gentleman who was incredibly service oriented. He made my vegan mom a fresh panini in a matter of minutes. The owner talked up his homemade lasagna and boy was he right!

I was going to get my mom her favourite Stash Peppermint Tea and the owner would have none of it. He talked us into getting a Mighty Leaf tea and boy was he right! It smelled awesome and my mom said it was the best mint tea she's had short of fresh! After the lasagna, I had an Americano. The owner uses Illy espresso which he apparently gets in by the keg! Prepared to perfection.

This is just a little weekday office crowd breakfast and lunch place, but I'm sure glad it was open. It may not look like much, but this is one restaurant that you can safely take your mom!

Caffe Buongiorno is a regular stop for me.  Not only because of the convenience factor on my walk to work, but because of it's uniqueness. A bit of old Europe combined with authentic Vancouver. A comfortable cafe in the heart of downtown with a genuine desire to provide the best of what it has. Why else would they proudly serve Illy coffee, and stand behind the statement of having the best coffee in town.

Sokol lurks behind the counter, stoic in appearance. 110% busy, but always willing to crack a smile if you make the slightest effort. Multitasking at it's finest.  Grilling chicken, whipping up an omelette, adding up prices in his head, but best of all, pulling espresso shots like his (and your) life depended on it. Maybe this is where his engineering background comes into play. If every coffee shop paid the same attention to detail as this, the world would be a better place.

Don't be hasty, an americano here takes a good few minutes before achieving the right personality. One that can't be matched by any chain or larger shop, especially the ones that now dominate every corner in this neighbourhood. Take a few minutes out of your day. Remove yourself from the bustle. Park yourself on the couch in front of the TV, grab a newspaper and let Sokol show you what it's like to be in an authentic cafe.
