Great ambience, service, and food. What more could you ask for?
This is my first dabble in french brunch cuisine and I'll definitely be back for more. -

Had read lots of rave reviews about this place, but as it turned out, it was just "fine."
We had the Croque Monsier and the Chicken Pesto sandwiches to share. Both came with salad and delicious homemade chips. (At least they seemed to be homemade?) The chicken tasted fine if not a bit processed but the Croque was just unnecessarily overdone with buttered toast as the French are apt to do. It overpowered the sandwich just a tad, but I think that it was the better of the two. They were typical sandwiches.
They were also cut quite unevenly, so as we were sharing, I ended up with two smaller halves. I didn't mind, but when cutting a sandwich, at least take the time to cut it evenly, especially if you are informed that people will be sharing.
The semi-booth seating was nice and the desserts looked interesting, although I have no idea what they were. I didn't see anyone order any, either. My latte was great and they had non-fat milk which I appreciated.
Unfortunately for me, I never got to taste my salad as my cutlery was accompanied with hardened cheese on the fork. Not a big deal as that can be difficult to take off when washing. The unfortunate part was that while attentive at first, the waitress never came back to ask how the food was until I was pretty much done. We tried to get her attention a few times, even when she delivered food next to us, but to no avail.
When I told her that I would take the rest of mine to go, she seemed bothered by the fact that she hadn't returned, as if it was somehow my fault. The place was busy, so I guess it was to be expected, but unfortunately, this is where she lost a star.
So overall, a fine place for lunch, but don't expect the Eiffel Tower when dining at a French Cafe served by Anglophones in Kits. -

Oh my snaps. DELICIOUS!
I tagged along with some friends who were going here for brunch this weekend, never having heard of it and thus, having no expectations.
i have to say that it was one of the best brunches I have had in Vancouver to date. I had the omelet of the day, which was mushroom and cheese; the omelet itself was cooked to perfection and stuffed with a myriad of different cheeses and perfectly sauteed mushrooms; it was accompanied with a little dish of expertly roasted and seasoned potatoes, a light green salad, and a piece of baguette. NOM NOM NOM.
I grabbed some baked goods and a meat and cheese plate from the front case to take to my bf, and these too did not disappoint. The carrot and hazelnut muffin was delicious! Lots of shredded carrot and chunks of hazelnut throughout; it was moist, not too sweet and flavourful.
The 'floating islands' in the front case looked too delicious to not come back for some day.
This place is a real gem; French brunch at its best. If you come on the weekend, expect to wait for a bit to get a table. But know that it's definitely worth the wait! -

Returned to Cafe Regalade for brunch this morning for the first time. I had the Basque eggs and my wife had the quiche. Basque eggs were incredible... chorizo, eggs, peppers, onions... so good. nice green salad and french bread... lots of food... quiche was light and tasty. Definitely would try again.

An amazing new place for dinner in Kits. Or at least, that's what it looks like -- it's so consistently packed that we haven't been here for dinner.
Which is why we are SO thrilled to go for lunch and for breakfast. If you've been here for dinner, come back for breakfast/brunch. They have these amazing egg dishes cooked in little cast iron pans -- for once, a breakfast menu that breaks from the usual options and gives you something new to try, and all of it delicious. (And it's a good place to take kids for breakfast, though I wouldn't brave dinner.)
Lunch has been great too, and on the weekdays, it's been relatively calm. Loved the quinoa salad -- it may not sound exciting, but it IS exciting. Yum.
My only regret is that this replaced an initial effort to run the space as a French bakery. Actual Parisien-quality macarons here in Vancouver. But too dangerously close to our house, so perhaps it's just as well that I can't get them.Listed in: Kid-friendly food in Kitsilano…

French bistro food is home cooking at its best.
It's food that is delicious, flavoursome and memorable.
The recipes are time-honoured, often passed down from generation to generation.
The recently-opened Cafe Regalade, a tiny French bistro in Vancouver's Kitsilano area, has all these qualities.
The decor is simple, sparse and almost has an industrial look and feel to it; non-descript to say the least.
The kitchen is innovative, creative and cooks food of stellar quality, often introducing a twist and a new element to traditional French bistro food.
Take the Quinoa salad with mango and basil. Traditional Quinoa, an ancient Peruvian grain is earthy and nutty in taste, but under chef's fine hand it is light and refreshing.
The salad contains sweet mango dices, fresh basil, pine nuts for crunch, making the salad memorable.
Likewise the red beet salad, sweet chucks of goodness in a smooth creamy dressing, coating the beets, salty Parmesan cheese shavings; the kitchen scored another hit.
The innovative zucchini tartare, little chunks of zucchini, juicy little morsels of sweet raisins, a slight hint of salty anchovies and crunchy pine nuts, is bold creative and so tasty and unlike anything you've had.
Marinated salmon, with shaved Parmesan, is another stellar dish. The salmon is Gravlax-like (a Nordic dish sliced thinly consisting of raw salmon, cured in salt, sugar, and dill), but the taste here is more subtle and lighter.
The accompanying hearty grilled slices of peasant bread were perfect for the rich, smooth, slightly sweet salmon; the salty Parmesan cheese cutting through the richness.
Beef tartare also known as steak tartare, a staple of a lot of French bistros, said to be Russian in origin, was done perfectly.
The end result of the finely-minced, high quality beef, mixed with mustard, chopped shallots, Worcestershire sauce, salt and pepper, finely chopped capers and egg yolk, was hearty and delicious.
The accompanying French fries, super crispy on the outside, the inside creamy and smooth. A small green salad went well with the hearty beef and those great fries.
Braised short ribs in pepper sauce were superb. The meat tender and juicy, surrounded by an amazing sauce that was velvety in texture, hearty in taste, the peppers evident, sharp and pungent, but not overpowering.
A side dish of scalloped potatoes, a beautiful brown crust on top, the inside heavenly, creamy rich potatoes.
Dessert was a lemon tart. A thin crust with lemony goodness on top - perfectly smooth and velvety, that lovely taste of tart lemon. Two pools of whipping cream with fresh sliced strawberries, a nice extra touch, completed this delightful morsel of perfection.
But while the food was stellar, the servers accommodating; there were small elements missing - having to ask for butter for the bread, the table not cleared properly after the main courses were finished, servers walking by customers, waiting to be seating, without acknowledging them.
It's those little things that keep Cafe Regalade from achieving memorable status, given its terrific food.
Bottom line: Cafe Regalade serves terrific French bistro
style food, but some service elements need improvement.

After seeing pictures my friend posted up on Facebook I decided to give their brunch a try. The food was fresh and delicious...very French. We were all impressed by the presentation when our orders came.
They have these amazing looking pastries in the display along with some terrines we didn't get to try. A cute cafe that just serves great food without the fuss. We need more of these in Vancouver. Would like to come back for dinner soon. -

Cafe Regalade is one of those little gems that's tucked away in Kitsilano. You've probably driven past it a few times but have never really noticed it.
This French bistro is always packed, and offers authentic French cuisine that rivals an actual meal in Paris! (Actually, I think that this cafe is better.)
Phenomenal food, outstanding service. Try the Beef Bourguignon, You won't be disappointed. Also, try the chef's special dessert. It's DIVINE! -

A great new find. A casual neighborhood French cafe with great food and reasonable prices. I've been here twice, once for brunch and once for dinner and both times the food was excellent. The duck a l'orange was very good at dinner as were the salads. Very traditional presentation.
Their breakfast plates were very interesting and much better than the awful breakfast selections that we have around these parts.
The only thing they need to work on is their service. A female server came to take our dinner order but had no idea about the details of menu. We ordered some drinks and an appetizer at first but rather than bring our order she just left and went home! After about 10 minutes a more knowledgeable male waiter showed up to apologize and take our order again.
The breakfast waitress was also a bit of a dreamer. She spent most of her time off in the corner polishing the wine glasses even though many tables were waiting to order or to pay their bill. Again the same male waiter had to pick up the slack.
Somewhat amusing but not really. -

The recently opened Steeve Raye Pastry (http://www.yelp.ca/biz...) has rebranded as Cafe Regalade and changed their format to more of a bistro menu.
I haven't sampled the savoury food, but stopped in for a quick dessert after a meal elsewhere and was happy to see them offering îles flottante.
It arrived nicely plately in a shallow bowl. The meringue held together nicely while being airy and light. The praline shell made with sliced almonds provided a nice textural contrast and was very well executed. The crème anglaise, which it was served on, was the weakest part of the dessert. It did not hold together as well as it should. The flavours were good with a nice vanilla bean overtone, but it was starting to break a bit. That said, I still enjoyed the overall plate very much and would definitely order it again. Photo: http://www.yelp.ca/biz...
I'll have to go back and try their full menu soon!Listed in: Dentists' Dreams in Vancouver, Vancouver European Food

so my friends and i decided to go somewhere other than the sunshine diner for brunch this weekend... and i wish i could say it was because we were being adventurous, but really, it was laziness that directed us towards cafe regalade. located on fourth and macdonald (which was only a block away from us versus sunshine diner's fifteen minute walk), it's a cute place that's not that big and easy to over-look, but perfect for brunch.
i had this dish which was in a hot skillet: poached eggs on this spinach bed with mushrooms, bacon, onions, etc. with some sort of wine sauce. on the side there were potatoes sautéed in garlic and olive oil and also french bread and a green salad. a mimosa complimented this meal perfectly. -

Had the worst onion (?) soup there, it was a bowl filled with tomatoes, bread, tasteless broth and unmelted cheese. I'd have sent it back if the waiter had come anywhere near, after serving us lukewarm water in hot glasses. When we asked for cold water, a glass with ice and a ladle was plunked on the table.

Scrumptious Brunch Service, guaranteed to be a neighborhood hotspot.
Had the opportunity to try out Cafe Regalade's amazing brunch service with two former industry cooks.
Up at the pastry counter there was an assortment of mouth watering goodies, for the sweet tooth they offer muffins to meringue. For savory goods they offer a selection of loaves to terrine.
I am a big fan of duck, dishes with duck fat mmmmm... This was our fave of the two, it was moist and the hazelnut taste added an extra intense layer of flavour. The champagne terrine was a bit dry, probably because pork meat is a lot tougher.
Basque Breakfast - $13.25, 2 sunny side up eggs, piperade (onions and peppers), chorizo, aioli sauce, potatoes, salad and two pieces of the obsessively delicious aioli and saffron toast. They loved it, the portions was huge, potatoes flavourful and perfectly cooked. The piperade and chorizo went so well together.
Lyon Breakfast -$12.75, 2 poached eggs, mushrooms, bacon, pearl onions, spinach, potatoes, and red wine sauce, salad. Red wine sauce made with veal bone and bacon. The smell was so rich and the taste perfect. -

Are you ok with finding a hair in your food and returning it to the server just to see her returning it to you and saying that was a parsley stem?
Are ok with reserving a table and then waiting 25 minutes by a crowded the door of 10 other waiting people before you are seated?
If your answer to the two questions is yes, then I 100% recommend you try Cafe Regalade! -

I've been here once for a pastry (before it started meal services), twice for brunch, once for dinner and once for a late night dessert and each time have been impressed with the food and the casual and friendly atmosphere.
Last dinner there:
The appetizer was smoked halibut and still-warm potato salad with just enough of a tangy vinaigrette to set the mouth watering for more.
As it was the first Tuesday of the month, I was talked into getting the special, roast suckling pig (cochon de lait), a beautifully slow-roasted piece of pork stuffed with a pea and herb infused mixture, topped with a crisp piece of cracklin' skin and served alongside the most amazingly buttery mashed potatoes.
Complimented by a glass of fruity BC Pinot Grigio, this was one of the best French meals I've had in Vancouver.
Make haste and eat here! -

Grabbed breakfast here to try them out since the shift from patisserie to cafe. They still have the same decadent pastries at the counter, if you would prefer a coffee and brioche. But it's worth it to try their more substantial food.
I tried the Paris breakfast - tomatoes cooked with oil, parsley, and garlic, with two beautiful sunny-side-up eggs, served in a piping hot Staub skillet. Lovely roasted potatoes in their own bowl on the side, and a salad of soft butter lettuce to round out the meal. Fantastic food at very generous portions and very reasonable prices. I can't wait to go back and try another dish soon.
Until they become the huge hit they deserve to be, an added benefit is that they aren't nearly as crowded as other breakfast places in Kits. -

I actually came here at least 6 months ago, when this location first opened. Very quiet place back then, and I came with a girlfriend at late morning. Their breakfast wow, don't remember which dish we ordered, but the portion was certainly generous. A very nice meal accompanied with salad, plenty of vegetables, ham, and eggs. Interesting pastries as well but too full to try out, friend was tempted to take away though. Left very satisfied.

This is a great casual neighborhood dinner place. Emphasis on casual. It almost looks like a coffee shop inside.
The food is very rustic French home cooking (e.g. cheese and charcuterie board, escargot, cassoulet, simple mussles, duck breast, etc). The wine list won't win any awards, but it's all reasonably priced and very well chosen. The portions are nicely sized (some are very large) and the prices are more than reasonable. Dinner for 2 with 2 375ml caraffs of wine was only $80 plus tip.
We started with the salad trio - the beet salad and the zucchini tartare were simple but interesting and light. The only disappointing thig we had was the cooked tomato salad. It would be good as a spread on bread or over pasta, but it was too sweet mushy to eat by itself.
The tuna pasta is very simple, but nice for a midweek dinner. The escargot in garlic butter were well done (what's not to love about butter and garlic?). The pot de creme was wonderful and not too sweet.
This is the kind of place I could easily see going regularly during the week when I don't feel like cooking myself, but don't want anything fussy. -

I'm so happy to finally see something in this space that looks like it could stick around for awhile. The Sunday Brunch was amazing. Cheese omelette came with potatoes, salad and slices of the best baguette I've ever tasted. I would have loved to top it off with one of the amazing looking pastries in the case but I just didn't have room. I will definitely be back soon. Excellent!
