Like it says on the door, this indeed is "Your neighbourhood cafe". This place is a real gem and represent everything good about a small family owned independent establishment. It's run by real people, not some robots. I will find them playing with kids, and talking to the regular guests. I had even heard the girl giving a regular customer, who I guess lived nearby and recent had a baby, to give her a call if she needs help anything.
The place itself is huge, and has a lot of sitting table, which unlike other places in downtown are not cramped together, and make the place very kids friendly. The seats are comfortable, tables are always clean and the place has simple decor. They also have free Wi-Fi, but make sure you ask the password at the counter.
The food here is excellent, other than the deli choice and a great coffee, they also have homemade Turkish food, which they shuffle daily. They are also really flexible with the order and , if you ask, let you do a bit of mix and match, where possible. I had a dolma with salad and asked the lady to give me extra rice instead of pop, which she gladly did. While I was at the counter I could resist the freshly baked Cinnamon swirls. It was huge, made with whole wheat flour and barn, and therefore was really fulfilling, in fact add a coffee and its a meal at its own.

    Closed. Out of business.

Surprised it lasted this long... It was confusing to order, over-priced... I could go on but don't have to.

    two last words: good riddance.

I was supposed to be meeting a friend at The Buzz this bank holiday weekend, but it was closed, alas! I'd spotted this nice little place, so thought we'd head along here instead.

Fairly decent! Had a latte and some toast with my fave, the classic peanut butter and jam. Can't really go wrong! They brought the food and drinks to the table (oooh service!), though that meant we had to get up and go back towards the counter to put the sugar/extra stuff in our drinks; not so cool when you're sitting at the front of the cafe. But a minor annoyance.

The latte was a little too strong for my liking. Toast arrived cold. My friend was extremely happy they had liquid sugar - is this a rarity? But it was a good place for a chat and gossip, nice and quiet away from the hustle and bustle towards Granville.

Wandering around Downtown and floating into Yaletown, I decided to try this place I drove by many times. Heard many good things about the customized menu, cozy seating etc. etc.
Walking in at 6PM on Sunday, only one other customer reading a newspaper. It is a big space! Instantly noticed they carry almost (or all) a full line of Xhena's (?) tea. That's nice, I don't see too many places use the brand to this extent. Glancing over the menu I decided on the panini and small soup combo and added a Turkish coffee for extra $2. The bocconcini veg. panini is great with fresh spinach. The Turkish lamb soup was amazing, it was meaty, hearty, chunky, and creamy. Yum yum. It was a good sized meal and it normally comes with a small coffee. But I changed it to Turkish coffee - this I've never tried and wasn't sure what to expect other than the fact that they use a stovetop to make it. Anyways, it comes in a espresso cup and sweetened (at request) during its making. It tasted very earthy - not sure how to put it, different from a regular espresso for sure. I am not sure if I'd try it again though, for me it was a bit experimental.
Other than that they will bring you the food and coffee to your table, it is well air-conditioned, and has a laptop for patron's use (very nice). I was supposed to be reading but ended up taking pictures for this review and fiddling with the phone sitting in a cozy sofa. I almost curled up in the sofa but it was a tad cold to do that. I don't know if I'd go out of my way to visit this place, but may consider dropping by if I could not think of an alternative walking nearby.

    Whoaaa an unexpected find!

I dropped by this place to eat dinner with my friend before going to a party... :P and this place is not too shabby

I ordered the Turkish panini, called Kafek or something. It has a lamb meatball in it, pretty good. I also ordered the lamb and spinach stew, and it's really tasty. I loved the soup.

The only MEH about this place is the portion of the panini. I mean the portion is decent, but the meatball is SCARCE. Man, I don't think if you fit all the meatballs on one side, it will only fill half of the sandwich. Seriously guys, you need to learn how to give a portion from Chinese take-out restaurants...

Totally it cost about $9.50 for the panini, soup and tea. It was the daily special, so yeah...

Service is ... meh as well. I mean it is a cafe, so I can't expect too much. The place itself is convenient although there is nothing Turkish about the place :S. Oh and they also provide the 2-item or 3-item type of meal. It looks good!

A  neighborhood-like cafe with friendly down to earth staff.  Some people were there playing chess and backgammon (supplied by the cafe) while a couple others were on their laptops using the free Internet the cafe provided.  The rest were their enjoying their breakfast.

I had their daily $9 special which came with a sandwich, soup and coffee.  The meatball panini sandwich was not bad.  Their smoked chicken soup was pretty good but their apple pie I didn't care much for as the crust was thick and soggy.  Not sure if it was like that because it was Turkish style or just a bad pie.  The Turkish coffee though was great.

Holy moly tables! Or maybe it's just the space between the tables. Sprawled out I could easily sit here all day pecking away at my keyboard, happy to be surfing the free wifi. (Make sure to ask for the passcode at the bar, or else you'll have to walk ALL THE WAY to the back to get it once you've settled in.)

Turkish coffees, 49th Parallel Beans, but today I settled on a their "specialty" Deva Chai. Pretty sweet and flavourful, but definitely more like a dessert than a midday pick me up!

My only beef - ordering my drink, having it prepared, and then having to wait to pay. I know this is not their standard practice, it's pay for your drink, pick up your drink, take a seat or get moving. But I stood waiting to pay while 3 more people ordered their drinks (humming and hawing the whole way) and paid before my bill was entered. I was getting miffed by the end of my wait -- it causes the same reaction that being left by a server when your done your meal at a restaurant. Tick-tock-tick-tock is the sound of their tip getting smaller and smaller.

This aside, I have a feeling though this will be on my regular route for free wi-fi downtown!

Slow service, cheap ingredients, flavourless dishes. They charge 7 dolars for a slice of borek(pastry) and they use the cheapest possible cheese to fill it?? On top of this they served me yesterday's pastry, heated. Unbeliavable. The eggs i tried were not seasoned at all and it took them 25 minutes to make sausage and eggs in a completely empty restaurant. So disappointing.

That's what I thought - MEH... so I guess two stars it is... I've been excited to try this place and it's turkish and different.. more the reason to try...

Maybe I was being indecisive that day.... which lead to potentially poor choices? But I was trying something new and got a Chocolate -bran cinnamon bun that was sitting in the muffin tins - so I thought freshly baked and gooey?........... I asked it to be heated up... and although it was warm.. it was definitely NOT gooey. Definitely bran-like, with parts of chocolate and hints of cinnamon... but just too dry :(

I also ordered "freshly squeezed OJ" that was sitting in the fridge... although I confirmed it was freshly squeezed, it didn't taste that way.... I'm not sure.. maybe the pulp was just drained so it was overly watery and watered-down..... just not too happy.

My friend got the butter chicken soup, and it did taste pretty good, but I wish mine was just as good. Service was great.. but even that, I would not give it a second chance unless someone tried hard to convince me.

Comfortable leather seats, clean and quite place, lots of smiles, free wi-fi(and even a laptop to use) and good tea.
It is a small well hidden cafe with lots of fresh things to choose in their menu, (a lot of veggie options as well as meaty ones).

Best of all this is an independent place, you can easily ask them to personalize items (ask them to put feta cheese, tomato and some parsley in your sesame bagel and toast it for you). Apparently they give discounts to their regulars, e.g. if you work in MCDC just ask for a 10% discount.

As for the price, this is no Tim H.rtons or M. Donalds. Come here sit, open your laptop, have a tea and a breakfast for less than 10 bucks.

I had the soup and sandwich combo for 9.50 after tax. The service was great and I was really pleased with the kufta sandwich. The Mexican chicken soup I had was just okay.

I'd recommend this as a lunch spot. I'll definitely be going back and will try their breakfast menu.

This is still my fave place to work, cafe style, in the city.
Turkish coffee, Turkish food, gas fireplace, power outlets, free wifi, licensed, friendly owners, comfy chairs, unusual policy inviting you to stay, work, meet friends, chat as long as you want.

Only need bike parking, but turns out they've been trying with the City for almost a year and the city keeps presenting reasons why not, instead of facilitating.  So that gripe, it turns out, is with the City.

Oh - and the dry/icky cinnamon buns mentioned by another reviewer are actually a highlight for me! Whole wheat cinnamon buns -- who else in the city will do that?  Yay from me.

Fantastic cafe. Stumbled on it one day when walking back from the Pet clinic nearby and been going there ever since. Great atmosphere, courteous and helpful staff, and both the food and the coffee is great. Their chicken panini & soup combo is a must. Washrooms also super clean; wifi is fast and they even have a laptop set up for people who haven't brought their own. I highly recommend it!

Vast amount of space with comfy chairs and lots of space between tables.  Solid free wifi and plugs for laptop computers.  The coffee was... ok.  The tea selection was excellent.  Lots of pastries, I had a delicious scone.  The prices are average (I think the review that complained about prices was expecting Tim Horton's).  Ambient music was low volume light rock when I was there.  Very clean and attentive, friendly service.
